Weird and Ninja Shout Out to You! (updated on 7/14)

We paid using the $25 gift card that we got from Jennifer, so ...

SHOUT OUT to you, JENNIFER, for paying for our first official meal in Disney World!

My pleasure! :thumbsup2

I recently saw pictures of the new renovated Captain Cooks and DH & I definitely want to try it on a future trip! :goodvibes

Those nachos look bomb!!! I showed my co-worker the pic of the pork nachos and now we are just salivating, haha.

Oh yum! Those nachos look amazing!! I've never personally had sushi due to allergies but now that I am trying new foods and realizing that I'm not allergic to them I'm willing to try it. Note to self though we will have to try those nachos when we go in September.

Can I just say that if you have a craving for sushi, just go ahead and tell me! Haha a lot of times you have cravings for things and I always wonder if you're hesitant because you don't really want it or you're just asking because you know I want it. Truth is, it makes it easier for me since I won't have to make a decision! So please, my love, just tell me you want something because like you said, chances are I won't say no :)

Thank you for the gift card, Jennifer! :thumbsup2

I am catching up this morning before I head out to school and then part-time job for the evening. I needed a Disney fix to get through this long day, so the quick trip to AoA, Pop, and Poly was just the thing. :thumbsup2 Oh, what I would give to be going to Poly with the family this morning for an 'Ohana breakfast.....

Dinner looks great! I was going to hit up Captain Cook's on my weekend trip last month but never made it :( I am officially craving sushi now though!!

The Poly is my FAVORITE resort to visit! It has always been my dream to stay there one day but it is sooo expensive so I just settle for visiting for now. I have not tried Capt. Hooks or Kona yet but we love doing the Ohana character breakfast and I recently tried Ohana's for dinner and I've done the Luau a few times. It is always such a romantic and peaceful resort to walk around.

YUM! That dinner sounds really good! We've always enjoyed the sushi at Poly, and those pork nachos look delicious! So delicious, that I may just suggest to DH that we have nachos for dinner tonight! :lmao:

It really was yummy! We would go back and have it again.

:lmao: I used to have my parents old, humongous stereo in my closet, and I can't tell you how many nights I sat in front of it waiting for my favorite songs to come on so I could make mix tape after mix tape. :rotfl: Kids have it so easy these days...

We don't have any real food allergies (Paxton is allergic to eggs, but it's not serious. He can eat things that are cooked with eggs, just can't eat them straight), but I'm so amazed by how well Disney handles food allergies and special diets. It's really great to know they are so careful not to cross-contaminate the food with the allergen so that both you & Howard could enjoy the nachos. I love all the pics at the Poly! Kind of strange to think that after the construction it will all be so different.

Haha, I still have some of my tapes, and I don't know what to do with them. They're just in a drawer at my parents' house, and I feel bad just getting rid of them!

It really is such a relief knowing that Disney can handle things like this! Makes it such an obvious vacation spot for some families!

Yo Rachel!

I've been away forever! (long depressing irrelevant story) But I'm back now, and your honeymoon TR and this one have kept me entertained through stupid layovers and airline delays today, so for that I'm grateful.

Your TRs are fantastic as always, and make me laugh.

I totally agree with you on the sushi at Captain Cook/Kona Island. Though here in the middle of nowhere 1 roll at the grocery store is easily $10, so it doesn't seem so overpriced to me. But it's no better than what I can get here, and I feel like it should be.

I'm not a fan of the nachos at Captain Cook's. I think it's the chips, but then again, I never use the pineapple salsa either, so maybe that's it.

Anyway, just saying hi, and thanks for the entertainment!

Yay, Joanna!!! I'm so glad to see you here! I'm happy the Disneymoon TR entertained you, and I'm so happy you helped make it possible! We will forever be grateful that we were able to stay at AKL.

Yeah, sushi can be so differently priced, but I'm sure being in NY makes it easier to find less expensive sushi at least for basic rolls. The fancier ones do start at the $10 range though.

Mmm, I love both kinds of chips in the nachos, but I do like really crunchy and hearty ones!

My pleasure! :thumbsup2

I'm really eager to go back and eat there again!

Those nachos look bomb!!! I showed my co-worker the pic of the pork nachos and now we are just salivating, haha.

They're the best snack/meal food ever! I'm glad they're at the Poly so they're just a monorail ride away, but when we do full park open to park close days, we can't even see "wasting" time to leave the park at all.

Oh yum! Those nachos look amazing!! I've never personally had sushi due to allergies but now that I am trying new foods and realizing that I'm not allergic to them I'm willing to try it. Note to self though we will have to try those nachos when we go in September.

Yay to being able to try new foods! It's like a whole new world is open to you now!

Love eating outside at Poly. I think we got sushi there once, and remember it being pretty good!

Yeah, it's definitely a good place to get it when there's a craving. Maybe not the best in the world, but for something pre-made, it hits the spot. I do like seeing all the sushi that Lou Mongello eats when he's in WDW, but he's doing sit-down restaurants.

Can I just say that if you have a craving for sushi, just go ahead and tell me! We do have very similar cravings!

I am catching up this morning before I head out to school and then part-time job for the evening. Sorry for the lack of Disney fixes in a bit. I do have an update ready to go! I've never had a sit-down breakfast in WDW, but one day I think we'll definitely do that on a non-park day.

Dinner looks great! I was going to hit up Captain Cook's on my weekend trip last month but never made it :( I am officially craving sushi now though!!

Hope you were able to get some sushi when you were craving!

The Poly is my FAVORITE resort to visit! It has always been my dream to stay there one day but it is sooo expensive so I just settle for visiting for now. I have not tried Capt. It seriously is just way too expensive especially since most of our time would be spent at the parks instead. I love that we can just get a taste of all these resorts by visiting or eating at the restaurants though!

Enjoying the Poly Before Journeying Home

This was actually the first place we were considering during our Disneymoon. When a good DIS friend offered to sell us some DVC points, we compared the Poly to AKL, and of course, we went with the cheaper option. Now that I've kind of seen both, I'm actually pleased that we chose AKL because it seemed a little bit more like a getaway and not like any other Disney World vacation.

Twitter: As close to Hawaii as we'll ever be, and I'm okay with that.

That's not to say that the Poly isn't beautiful, but I guess it didn't help that there was construction being done on the beach area, cutting off the walkway. I did very much like the accessibility to Magic Kingdom though by that brief boat ride! The plan was to go back upstairs to the monorail after checking out the gift shop downstairs, but as we passed by all the boats to rent and approached the launch spot, we saw that the boat was docking. We just jumped at the opportunity to try out this new form of transportation to us!

Twitter: We scurried to catch the boat, so I didn't get a chance to sit here. This would be nice in the sunshine!

As the other guests unloaded, we looked around as the sun began to set. Wow, what a view! I didn't realize just how close the Grand Floridian was to the Poly. I mean, sure, I know they're both on the monorail resort loop, but it's kind of hard to understand placement especially when you're someone like me who has difficulty with spatial reasoning. I could totally understand why people want to stay at these resorts just for the views, but these vacations would definitely have to be more relaxed than open to close park touring otherwise I think it'd be a waste never being in the room other than to shower and sleep.

The boat ride was short and peaceful. The captain pointed out that there was a wedding going on at the pavilion because he could hear the bagpipes. When we passed by, he directed our attention to the Cinderella coach being used at that exact moment. I have to say that it was definitely a magical sight. I've seen it in pictures and videos before, but there's always something fantastic about seeing one of these things in real life even if it is from afar. I don't think many of the other people on the boat cared much about what the captain was pointing out as they were just engrossed in their own conversation. I was thinking that maybe they were Poly regulars and were so used to the sights. We were complete newbies enjoying every moment of the experience!

Of course, I had to take a picture of the fact that this "ride vehicle" was not on a track. I still thoroughly enjoyed the sound and look of the water hitting the side of the boat. And let me just say that it was really odd only seeing a little chain blocking us from falling into the water! It always makes me worry about kids who might not be as diligently watched by their parents, and trust me, we came across many of those kids and parents this trip!

As we approached the front of the Magic Kingdom, I was in awe of how wonderful it looked with the lights all lit. It really didn't take too long to get to our destination, and it'd be such a joy being able to "commute" (I can't help calling it a "commute" because we live in a borough of NY) this way to the park. Considering it was starting to get rather chilly, we decided we would rather choose the buses or monorail in this kind of weather! I can't even imagine how cold it felt on those boats later in the trip when we were all bundled up!

Normally, we never do Magic Kingdom first because the touring sites always say it's the most crowded. We also like to start off with an "easier" park since MK requires the most energy, in my opinion. However, after seeing the train station and the turnstiles TWICE already, I was jumping out of my skin thinking about how we'd get to actually go into the park the next day! For a quick second (even though a quick second is still the same length as a plain ol' second), we contemplated hanging around outside the gates and waiting for Wishes, but it was much too early, and we were much too cold in just our waffle shirts. Plus, the whole point of eating early was to get back to the room early to get a good night's rest.

Once we got off the boat, we took our time walking to the bus stop. Everyone else was rushing to the parks. I have to say that one of the huge benefits to staying at Pop is that you have the option of jumping on a Pop or Art of Animation bus. Sometimes you're more in the mood to wait in place for a bus while other times it just seems more logical to keep moving and walk from AoA to Pop. This trip didn't take too long though, and before we knew it (I say it as if it's fast even though it's the longest trip out of all the parks), we were back home.

(continued in next post)

(continued from previous post)

We took a moment to examine all the Vinylmation used in the display out front. Part of us really wished we could just approach a CM and say, "Since you no longer have trading here at the resort, can we trade for what's in there?" They have some nice ones in there! It's just sad because I liked the thrill of it. During our Christmas 2012 trip, we scored some good ones from Pop alone. I just think it's completely ridiculous that they're phasing out all the trading locations when they're coming out with new series.

By the way, I don't know how it is with the other resorts, but for Pop and AKL, it's rather interesting to notice that the fastest way to get from the bus stops to the inside of the resort is through the gift shop. The door is closer! I wonder if they did that on purpose, haha. Smart cookies if so. It gives Howard a chance to take pictures of some of the merchandise including their snow globes! I used to have a bunch of Precious Moments ones when I was a kid. I used to shake them and watch all the glitter or plastic hearts float down. I think it's hilarious that Howard seems to always see this particular one!

I have no clue who these characters are. I'm guessing they're from a Disney Junior show?

We figured since we were out and about that we'd pick up our post-dinner dinner from the food court. We knew that the food we split at Captain Cook's wasn't going to last us throughout the night since we had eaten it fairly early. Of course, Pop changed a lot of what they previously offered, so I was kind of disappointed. I absolutely loved the Beef 'n Bleu sandwich with the homemade chips on the side. Howard also enjoyed the chicken alfredo before as well. For our tastes, the menu was a lot more limited. I had considered the Turkey Sandwich ($9.19), which is Thanksgiving in a sandwich with the turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, cranberry mayonnaise, and watercress. How decadent is it to have carbs on carbs?! Unfortunately, it's served on these thick slabs of Texas toast, and neither of us were in the mood for that. I'm also a little bit cautious with things like that just in case because the added butter and grease can easily make my gallbladder-less digestive system rather sick.

We browsed the area for a bit when I saw the Cheez-Its. I thought it was funny because it reminded me of bosox2001's 3rd trip video when the dad asked his kids, "What is one snack or treat that you're gonna have in Disney?" and the little girl said, "Cheez-Its!"

I had also never seen these snack size Chips Ahoy packs before. I kind of liked them just because of the packaging! Since there's only two of us, it never makes sense to get a big thing of cookies because we don't always finish it.

Seeing as there weren't many options, we settled on the Southwest Burger for $9.99. It was an Angus burger with pepper jack cheese, black bean relish, guacamole, and jalapeno dressing. To avoid potential reflux issues, we asked for the jalapeno dressing on the side. We watched them put the burger together, and it's actually kind of interesting that it's really just assembling. I mean, sure, that's pretty much how you'd do it at any counter service or fast food restaurant, but there's something odd about seeing a hamburger patty being pulled out of a bin that's next to the other condiments.

When the plate was passed down to the last CM on the line, the girl scooped out some fries with a paper cup, weighed it on a scale, then poured it out on our plate. Hubs and I couldn't figure out if that's how it's done to ensure everyone gets the correct amount or if it was done more so for nutrition information purposes. Either way, I do appreciate it because there's a chubby little child inside me that gets nervous in these situations as I think about how sad it might be if the CM skimps on the fries. Yes, I take fries very seriously. We also didn't want any fry spillage or air contamination from the walk back to the room, so we also asked for a cover.

We used the remainder of Jennifer's gift card to pay for most of the cost. It was really such a treat having gift cards because it helped us feel less guilty about getting all this food. Realistically, we would have purchased it without the gift cards anyway, but it just makes the meals taste better, don't you think?

We walked back to the room with my following Howard's lead. It took me quite a few days to figure out where we were staying because sometimes we'd have to walk alongside the other rooms to avoid the rain, and on other occasions, we came from the bridge from AoA. I'm directionally challenged, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Basically, I could get us to the oversized Play Doh container, but after that, my rights were the same as my lefts, and I often had to look at the signs to figure out where 4140 was located. It's a good thing that when I drive, it's either to and from work, to and from my parents' house, or to and from the supermarkets/shopping area!

Once back in the room, we settled into some comfy clothes. Actually, I think we just took off our germy pants and sat on the extra bed because we hadn't packed "home clothes." Guess that's why our luggage had so much space! Does anyone else understand the importance of "home clothes"? I know most people will change into sweatpants or more comfortable attire after being out and about, but we don't do it just because of comfort. It's because clothes can be just plain germy! I'm especially skeeved when someone has taken public transportation because they've done studies on NYC buses and subways and found traces of fecal matter. I'm sorry, but that's disgusting and just not acceptable! It hasn't stopped me from sitting down when I have to take public transportation, but I have NEVER sat on one of our chairs or beds or even the carpet in my parents' house if I wasn't wearing home clothes! Hubs does it now too because he's used to it. It was a requirement when he came over to hang out during our dating days! Yup, he had to pack a bag with home clothes!

Of course, changing into home clothes wouldn't mean anything if you didn't wash your hands too! Only then do I start to feel comfortable. I guess it doesn't help that I have such a weak immune system. I know there's the group of people, scientists, presidents, and fathers who believes that the less you wash your hands and use Purell, the healthier you are as your body learns to fight off the bacteria and viruses that you come in contact with on a daily basis. I believe that's the case for some people like my younger brother. He has been rather healthy for the 16 years of his life without having the "don't-touch-that-there-are-germs-on-it" mantra ingrained in his head (and it's not for lack of trying!). I, on the other hand, will get sick if I don't constantly wash my hands. I remember one time I ate a piece of candy at school without washing my hands and thought, "This might not be the smartest idea, but I'm sure I'll be fine" and then I ended up getting the bad cold that was spreading among the kids. Even with my strict washing hands policy (Purell is only used when you don't have access to a sink!), I still would breathe the air filled with stomach virus germs in my classroom and get sick. Maybe being a teacher isn't the wisest choice with all the papers that get passed around and collected and the markers that are touched, but I still did my best. I had markers and pens that no one else was allowed to use, I used Clorox wipes on the door handles and light switches and desks, and I had personal space around my desk. Even so, I still get sick anyway like right now because it's time for my annual "first-cold-of-the-school-year"!

I "loved" it when a kid would be like, "I think I'm going to throw up; can I go to the nurse?" and then walk up to my desk standing in my personal space waiting for me to write out the pass. I'd have to mention it and say, "If you think you're going to throw up, why are you standing so close to me? Back up." Plus, you'd think that by the time they get to 6th-8th grade, they'd know not to stick their grubby hands in their noses, but that is NOT the case. Some of the 8th grade boys have picked their noses with reckless abandon. But kids will be kids even when they're in middle school. And I will still be me with my incessant hand washing and Purell!

Did I just write a whole story about how I'm a germaphobe? I'd apologize, but I'm not in the least bit sorry because Disney World is a germy place too! Go wash your hands!

So after removing our germy pants and thoroughly washing our hands (and I wash my wrists and farther up if I can too!), we settled on the bed and figured, "Hey, the food's hot; let's eat ... AGAIN!" What is it about Disney that makes eating every few hours so acceptable?

The Southwest Burger was actually very tasty and quite satisfying. My one issue with it was that the girl who put it together used the small ice cream scoop to put the black bean relish on one side of the burger and the guacamole on the other. It wasn't even spread out. We also completely forgot to get a knife, so I couldn't fix it so the toppings were even and we couldn't even cut it in half. I used a fry to indicate the halfway point as I started eating first not because we don't like biting from the same food item but because if I didn't put that fry there, I might have just sat there watching Harry Potter on ABC Family and devoured the whole thing without realizing it.

The guacamole was an excellent addition. I typically prefer my burgers with American cheese and ketchup despite my humongous love for things like guacamole and different types of cheese. I'm a burger simpleton. But this one totally worked. Of course, I can't comment on the burger as a whole since I didn't use the jalapeno sauce, but it just made me a happy girl. Howard did say that the dressing was rather spicy, so it was good that we asked for it on the side since the pepper jack cheese already gave the burger a little bit of a kick.

I also used a ton of ketchup for the fries. I haven't been using that much at home, which is a little sad since I have two big squeeze bottles in the pantry that need to be used soon, but the Disney ketchup was such a bright red that I couldn't help myself. Plus, I had pumped out enough to fill two of the little cups, and I wasn't about to let so much of the ketchup go to waste. The only gross thing about ketchup is when it gets on my fingers, which it did. I had to take a deep breath and wipe it off and be grateful that it was just the tiniest dot and not a whole dollop! As much as I love dipping sauces, I don't like getting the vinegar-based ones on my hands as I feel the smell stays there forever.

Oh, what a delightful meal to end the night! With my belly full with Disney food, I pulled out the Clorox wipes I brought along with us and wiped down every possible object that we might touch (I realize I did it at night and not earlier when I said so because we didn't have our luggage yet!). That includes the knobs, the handlebar, and the ledges where we put our shampoo and soap in the shower. Normally I also wipe down the edge of the shower curtain that you touch to open and close it. Then I wiped down the toilet seat and the flusher and the top of the toilet as well. The door knobs and the light switches were obvious ones. The sink counter top and the faucet handles also got a good wiping. Then I moved over to the nightstand, and attacked that with the wipe. I must have used 6-7 wipes because I think it's gross to use anything from the bathroom on other surfaces, so I'll start a new one. Don't worry; I'm not that wasteful at home. I just need as few germs as possible in the room! And considering I had a horrible cold the last time we stayed in a Pop room, I couldn't help but think if someone had been sick before we took over. Every little bit helps.

Howard as exhausted and actually fell asleep by the time I was done with my own shower and drying my hair. I thought it was cute how he was in the middle of the bed! Even when we have two beds, we still share one, so I took this picture and then had to wake him a bit to move him over. As you can see, we also bring our own pillowcases. I don't like the idea of smushing my face into something that other people could have drooled on.

Before I fell asleep, I snapped a picture of the pins I traded for that day. I decided to do that to keep track of what I had even though I know I only kept the Mickey nerd (yay for finally finding it!) and the Maelstrom FP pins. I ended up trading away the Russell one because I found it in color, which I much prefer.

Time to sleep! And FINALLY, day one is completed and we can get to a park!

I loved the look of the Poly and have always wanted to stay there. I haven't been able to bring myself to pay the cost yet though. We almost did for our Honeymoon as well, but ended up at the Wilderness Lodge- which we ended up loving. The boat ride to the Magic Kingdom was definitely the best 'commute' we have ever had!

We can completely understand the home clothes! We aren't too extreme on the germs (though we don't use public transportation nearly ever- I could understand in that case) but once we know we aren't headed back out for anything we put our 'comfys' on!

You are my germaphobe inspiration! I married a germaphobe (who practically washes a grocery cart with wipes) and you do a lot I had never thought of before. Our last 2-3 trips I've left with awful colds so I'm trying to be more diligent about cleanliness. I read on another TR where a woman wears nude colored antimicrobial gloves on the plane and on any ride that involves holding something (i.e. Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story Mania). I thought this was an excellent precaution and plan on picking up a couple of pairs before our trip in a couple of weeks.

I wish I could get my husband to share food! He eats all of his and then tries to come after mine! :lmao: I love the Maelstrom pin!

I love reading your updates :goodvibes.

Haha I wonder how many awful pictures of me you'll post for this TR! First the wacky hair, then the bed hogging, will it never end? The reason I slept in the middle of the bed is because I'm used to doing that on those sized beds from retreat/hotels. For the most part, I'd have the bed to myself, so I'd sleep diagonally since all of that space was mine. I'm sorry I unconsciously slipped into this habit and left you no room!

I love me some snow globes. I didn't even notice that I took pictures of the same one until you pointed it out to me. I guess that goes to show how much attention I give to my pictures. Oops?

Really beautiful pictures from your ride around Bay Lake!! Perfect time of night for a boat ride!! And such a tease to be SO close to MK, and not go in :goodvibes

That burger does sound tasty...guac is a great idea! And Disney fries are pretty darn good!

Finally caught up!

I love taking the boat launches when possible. Its such a peaceful ride. You had a gorgeous sunset to look at too!

I also bring wipes with me to WDW but for cleaning our hands before we eat anything. You take it to the extreme cleaning everything in the room and now I feel like I should do it too! You are right, there are too many germs and who knows how clean they actually get the rooms in between guests.

Hi, Rachel! I'd love to follow along for another of your reports!

I'm glad you were able to stay onsite again - it's fun to be immersed in Disney during the whole trip. I loved your tour of the Art of Animation resort! I'd love to get a chance to go over there during my next trip - it appears there's a lot of fun things to see!

Your nachos at the Poly also look SO GOOD. I don't often eat quick service at resorts where I'm not staying, but I may have to make an exception for those nachos... ;)

That cost really is quite hefty! Oo, I haven't yet been to the Wilderness Lodge yet! Maybe we'll have to add that to our next vacation. I know there are so many restaurants to try.

I love you call them comfys!

I wish I could wash the grocery cart; sometimes I get so grossed out! I do have the little hand sanitizer hanging on my bag though so that if I touch anything gross in the market, I don't have to dig through my bag for it. I also use it once I get in the car too. Too many germs everywhere! I know that those who aren't germaphobes get sick less, but for me, I need to be like that because I have a weak immune system. If I don't, I get even sicker!

Haha, I'm so grateful Howard shares food. I think our marriage would be totally different if I couldn't eat off his plate!

Haha I wonder how many awful pictures of me you'll post for this TR! First the wacky hair, then the bed hogging, will it never end? It's not awful; it's adorable!

That burger does sound tasty...guac is a great idea! And Disney fries are pretty darn good!

It really was such a great time. It was just so peaceful! But yeah, it was really difficult not being able to just walk into the park! Too bad we didn't have annual passes like we did during our honeymoon year.

The combo of all the toppings just really worked together. It was nice to have something at least a little different than the standard burger. And you're absolutely right. Those fries are really tasty!

Finally caught up!

I feel that the boats really just "force" you to enjoy the moment. So tranquil!

I just feel that it could be possible the people before us were sick and the room was filled with germs! After having spent a few days in our Pop room with a bad cold, I think about that even more. Plus, I've seen those shows that have the hidden camera showing that some places don't really clean very well. I forgot what show it was, but I saw that the cleaning people at this one hotel would use one towel to wipe everything in the room AND the glass cups!

I don't often eat quick service at resorts where I'm not staying, but I may have to make an exception for those nachos... ;)

Yay, I'm so glad you're here!

It is getting quite addicting being able to stay on property. We love the buses because we don't have to rely on my parents to pick us up or drop us off. They don't see the point in our paying for a ride there when they can just drop us off.

After enjoying 'Ohana, Kona Cafe, and Captain Cooks, I think we're going to move on to a new resort for food. There's just so much to try and so little time! It's nice to know that even the quick service places have different options too instead of the same standard fare.

A Magic Kingdom Morning

Not staying outside of Magic Kingdom the night before to wait for Wishes was a great decision because we really needed to settle in, get our bags packed, and get some sleep to be well-rested for our actual park day. We were fairly wide awake the next morning. The lack of nausea was an indicator that I had enough sleep, so I was in a great mood. Since we didn't need to deal with breakfast in the room either, we didn't feel as rushed to get ready. It was a bit on the chilly side in the morning, so a nice hoodie came in handy although we did wear t-shirts underneath.

The pool area was so quiet since we were leaving early in the morning. I still get excited seeing the Pop pools even though we have never even stepped foot in ANY of the DIsney pools. I've just seen them in trip reports so often that it's as if I'm seeing a celebrity! Personally, I'm not someone who would want to go to a busy pool. I love the quiet ones. Even so, Howard and I have never fit pool time into our schedule unless we're staying at my parents' timeshare and can enjoy the lazy river.

By the way, does anyone know what that blue thing is for? I was guessing it was to help those with physical disabilities into the pool, but that could be entirely wrong.

For the most part, we didn't have any horrible bus mojo. Nothing is ever TOO long like it can be when I had to wait for the city bus to go to high school that was so unpredictable and so unreliable. Those buses would come every 20 minutes, but sometimes it would come earlier or later or not at all! Nowadays they have the bus tracker app that can be added to the phone, but when I was a teenager, I had to stand outside in whatever weather 15 minutes before it was scheduled to come. In comparison, waiting for a bus to take us to WDW can never be that bad because (1) I'm not going to class, (2) I have company because I'm with Howard, and (3) if we're "late," it's not as bad as being late for school or an appointment. Of course, I was still a little anxious to get there on time to catch the opening show!

Since the MK bus ride is always the longest, there was plenty of time to take a quick inventory of the pins on my lanyard. Having a lanyard really made it that much easier to trade. I'm glad I have a ton of these in those starter sets that I got at the outlet because I know each one will eventually get a little old or accumulate too many holes.

Soon we were approaching this lovely sign! I remember seeing it for the first time and being thrown off by the new color and missing the purple and pink. However, I have definitely gotten used to the blue and maybe even prefer it, as if the purple and pink represents my childhood visits to the park and the new color scheme represents my appreciation for the park as an adult.

There was a rather large crowd of people at the turnstiles, so instead of trying to get in and be uncomfortably squished, we stayed outside to secure a good spot for the opening show. Considering we didn't have a super close spot and there were a few people in front of us, I knew I wasn't going to bother recording it. That meant I could relax instead of keeping the camera out with my finger ready to hit the record button. That's when we decided to eat our simple breakfast. I was actually rather surprised that they tasted as good as they did! I think I was expecting them to be dry and kind of hard the way granola bars are. I actually enjoy granola bars but as a snack and not for breakfast. Of course, now every time I see coupons for these things or sales in the supermarket circulars or in the aisles of the stores, I always think, "I should buy them now, and then we'll have breakfast for our [unplanned] Disney trip!"

When the opening show began, it had a different feel to it. Part of it was because of our location, but the other part was because it wasn't the mayor! I associate his voice with the official start of the day, but without him, it seemed slightly odd. It was still exciting seeing the costumes of the dancers and the train come in! This is the one time that I get really caught up in the idea of the characters. In other situations, I can't help but think about the cast member who is friends with the Disney character. However, when they're arriving on the train and waving at all of us, it's so much easier to believe they are who they are!

I love this picture that Howard captured with all the people waving at the characters!

I can't imagine how cool it is to be chosen as Family of the Day and get the view from that location!

After having seen the show a handful of times at this point, I don't get too startled at the fireworks at the end, but it really is such a *GASP* moment for those around us too. That's part of the excitement of Disney World. I love seeing first timers experience things with fresh eyes.

I was nervous there'd be issues with our Magic Bands, but thankfully, everything went smoothly when we scanned them to get into the park. It was such a delight walking into the park and having our vacation OFFICIALLY begin. I don't quite know how people can go to Disney World and not visit a park. I think I'd go crazy being so close and not being able to walk down Main Street. One day, I do also hope to RIDE down Main Street. I put on my to do list each time we go, but it's something that always gets pushed aside because everything else seems so much more important.

We're so used to our traditions that we veered to the right to head to our first ride of the day in Tomorrowland!

I can't imagine starting the day with anything else!

We always start our trip with Buzz Lightyear too! It just sets the tone and gets us in the Disney mood.

We did the train tour last year and learned all about the trains at WDW. Did you know they only use the show train (the green one) for the opening show? It then goes back to the garage immediately after. Apparently they would have to alter the train since it doesn't have bars or sides preventing people from getting out of the left side.

Also, a few other fun facts is that when the conductor dings the bell as you pull into a station it signals to the cast member at the station that they are picking up people at that station. When they blow the whistle at the end before leaving the station, they are saying "let's go". And the tunnel you go through on your way to the Frontierland station is the inside of Pirates of the Caribbean (when the boat in PoC goes down the waterfall at the beginning it is going under the train track). We learned all sorts of interesting stuff so I thought you may find some of it interesting too!
