GKTW EVENT: DE DIS Meet Weekend – November 7-9 2014 : Update 11/6

All,

The website (powerof10de.org / powerof10de.us) has been updated! ::yes::

Not only does it have all of the event information published so far, it also has information about the event, us, and the cause (in case you are trying to explain it to your friends, or maybe a potential corporate sponsor.
(hint, hint; nudge, nudge; say-no-more, Say-No-More) :teeth:

It also has a a history of the 2013 event, along with pictures (Thank you Cathy!), as well as a page on the shed (we're still missing the inside photos) and a photo gallery page.

Feel Free to explore it (it is a whole 6 pages), and let me know what other things I should add!

Thanks.

James

I've decided to go. Just booked my Mega Bus Ticket for $4 RT. Any place near the Senior Center or UDEL lot six where I can get some Breakfast. I don't know UDEL or Newark well at all.

Ok, if you consider Newark as a clock face, Lot 6 is at 11 o'clock.

Embassy Suites is at 6 o'clock, about 2.5mi walk.

Newark Senior Center is at 3 o'clock, about a 3mi walk from the bus station, and about a 2.6mi walk from Embassy Suites.

The best sections (for food) on Main St., Newark is at 12 o'clock, about 1mi from the bus station. Simply walk down the main road that Lot 6 is next to, and when you get to the Deer Park (a legendary pub, but they don't open until 10AM on Saturday), head due east (into the sun), down Main Street. There are MANY restaurants on Main St.

If you need a ride to either the hotel or the event, PM me or Denise, and we'll find someone (if not ourselves) to pick you up from Main St! We will be all over Newark on Saturday AM, getting ready for the event.

Thanks for attending!

Don't ask why I did this, but I figured a simple graphic may help those trying to figure out the above.

Locations are stars *. Road Intersections are +.
NOT TO SCALE!

So, in the event you only have a typewriter, and you need to print out a map...

We're in! Signed up this morning. Looking forward to our first DE meet.

I will be registering soon! I have some things to donate, too! :yay:

lobmcf,

Please, if you can't get it to us down here in lower, slower (and loving it) Smyrna Delaware, please let us know if you will be in the Newark area anytime soon, so we can get one of our wonderful volunteers to pick it up from you.

We want to treat Each & Every Donation with the respect it deserves, and that means making sure it is presented in the ABSOLUTE Best way that it can, fully photographed & captioned, and on the auction website WAY in advance of the actual meet, so that Everyone can be SALIVATING over it!

If you don't think you will be in Delaware anytime soon, please PM me (or send Denise / I an email - denise@ & james@ cayz.net . We'll come pick it up!

That goes for ANYONE else, so long as it is a reasonable drive away.

And, oh yeah, THANKS!

James

Hi all! My husband and I just attended the Hershey meet and donated two paintings of Walt for the silent auction and key fobs that we sold for $5/each to raise money. Wondering if you'd be interested in our help for your meet? Let me know!

TickledPinkRabbit - yes, Yes, YES! We are always interested in having volunteers, either the day of the event, or ESPECIALLY before the event (getting things wrapped & ready).

I see you are from Baltimore - do you travel to Delaware / Dover-Smyrna area on occasion? If so, please send us an email (denise@ and/or james@ cayz.net.

That goes for anyone with the willingness to help out!

James

For all our current and future volunteers, and all those interested, I've updated our website with the latest Volunteer Newsletter:

Volunteer Newsletter #2

Also, I've uploaded the Often-Heard-About, but never seen (yet) GKTW-DE Shed Video.
You might laugh, you will gasp, you might cry...
You might even think "I've just lost 11 minutes of my life I'll never get back".

It certainly isn't Oscar material. GKTW-DE Shed Video

DH and I live in South Jersey and work in Center City. We're part of the volunteer crew and a possible means to get donations from here down to James and Denise.

All,

The first round of auction items have been loaded for your PREVIEW on the NEW auction website:
https://www.charityauctionorganizer.com/auction/gktwde2014

Many of the items that will be up for auction are now loaded up there.

Note, we are putting items up as we get them. They may shift from Live to Silent to Raffle and back depending on new items being received.

Yes, I'm taunting you.:stir:

I actually just moved to Cherry Hill! Once I have everything together (just ordered a canvas print, shouldn't be too long) I will send you a message to work out a meet up!

Hey, Go Back To The Front Page!

I just updated the front page post, with the attendee list and the auction website!

Hotel has been booked for months, but I just bought my tix! Woohoo! Can't wait!

If you have been following the Facebook Event, you will have seen my recent post about the overflowing conditions in the shed....

In addition to three 5-shelf 2x5' garage storage units filled to overflowing, and a smaller bookcase & workbench, also filled, there are several large (50 gallon) Rubbermaid containers on the floor, filled with stuff.

HELP ME, PLEASE! I Think I have a Disney Hoarder on my Hands....
The ONLY WAY I Can Think to Help Her is to have you all Bid on & Win the items at this year's (and the years' after) Give Kids The World Event in Newark, Delaware!

Later today, I will be posting just some of the remaining Live Auction Items, including framed Attraction Posters and porcelain figures (Disney Showcase, Precious Moments, & Lladro!).

Until then, please think about helping me out, and REGISTER!

James

(P.S. - I Love Ya, Denise :duck: (she's at work this morning...))

I've just finished up adding another batch of Live Auction Items to the auction website ( http://www.charityauctionorganizer.com/auction/gktwde2014 , click on Live Auction Items)

The LIVE list now includes:
  • Winterthur, Wilmington & Western RR, DE Museum of Natural History, and DE Art Museum tix :tiptoe:
  • DE Children's Theatre & Museum Tix :teacher:
  • Professionally Framed Disney Attraction Posters :hmghost: pirate:
  • Original Artwork :artist:
  • Clearwater & Wet 'n Wild (Orlando) Admission Tix :beach:
  • Lladro figurine
  • Philadelphia Soul (AFL) Lower Level Tix! :cheer2:
  • and Of Course - the Remembering Bob Varley Lot :magnify:

I've also added items to the other categories as well.

And, yes, there is MORE to come!

(Do I get an award for "Use of the Most Icons In A Post"?)

All,

I have a couple of questions for the attendees who will be attending and using Credit Cards for payment.

Last year, we had PayPal Here, and although it worked, it worked slowly. This year, we should be able to speed up PayPal, but we have the opportunity to make it nearly instantaneous if we use a banking provider called "Stripe". Yes, your information is still secure, and yes, we still need to swipe your card. Would any of you have reservations about using this versus PayPal Here (Visa, MC, AE, Discover, JCB accepted)?

Would any of you wish / want to PRE-REGISTER your credit cards (either online in advance or when you check-in)? That would mean that check-out would be a simple confirmation of your total, and away you go (email receipt)

Let me know via reply, I'm monitoring this thread.

Thanks.

James
