Question About Reserving a Room

Hey there! I am starting to plan a WDW vacation which I am thinking will take place 1/4-1/8. I am eyeing the Port Orleans French Quarter resort. I noticed that they want to charge a deposit upon reserving the room. How easy is it to make changes to dates and such after making the reservation? What happens with the deposit? Am I allowed to make changes? I'm asking because if I decide to go at a later time that month, I want to be able to move the dates if I can. I am about 99% sure I'll be going on those days, but I just want to make sure that they are flexible if I need to make changes.

I'm kind of new at reserving Disney hotels. In the past, I stayed with someone who reserved the room for us. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

You can change or cancel your reservation up to 5 days prior to arrival.

Are you booking a package (includes park tickets and/or a dining plan) or a room only?

If it's a package it's a minimum $200 deposit and you pay the balance at 45 days from arrival. You can change resorts if you want but you should remember: 1) after the 45 day mark, if the cost of your package goes down, you pay a $50 change fee or if you cancel, it's a $200 cancel fee and 2) within 2 weeks you get an extra $15 fee if you change anything at all about your package.

If it's a room only reservation, the deposit is the cost of 1 night's stay and the balance due at arrival. You can change whenever you want up to 5 days from arrival (for some reason it's 6 days if you book online) but if you choose a resort that costs more you will be paying extra to get the deposit up to 1 night's stay at that resort. If it's a cheaper resort you can put what's left toward your balance.

If you just want to change the dates, you can do that I think up to 5 days on a room only and it might be 3 days for a package, because within 3 days they can't change your package.

You can make resort and/or date changes to an existing reservation provided what you want is available. As long as you don't change your reservation type (RO to package or vice versa), the deposit will follow any date changes. If you change reservation types, the first reservation will have to be cancelled/refunded and a new reservation booked, requiring a new deposit. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

Both good answers. In addition, if you book a package and need to change it after the 45 day cut off you can still change. There is a fee associated with the change, I think $50-100 from memory.

It is $50 and it is generally waived if the change increases the cost of the package.
