So how much of a discount do you get if you book a future cruise onboard?

Just wondering how great the discount is and also is it best to get this done as soon as you enter the ship? Do you go to the front desk?

I always put a request in the box at the booking desk the first afternoon. We have a quote at our room after the show/dinner & call to confirm the charge to the same CC. If you have a cruise to reshop, list your reservation number.

The OBB is a 10% discount on the cruise fare for a cruise up to 18 months from the date of booking onboard. You get a 10% deposit for 7+ night cruises and an OBC depending on the length of the cruise. Can book up to 2 rooms for one date per address cruising.

Only 10%? that's not that great of a discount:(

We didn't rebook on board. A month later we got a coupon in the mail to rebook for 10% discount. We finally decided to just do it. :P

It's not a TON, but for us, it meant the difference between a regular portal room and verandah.

There is a special desk to book cruises on board. You save 10% and then get OBC depending on the length of the cruise. Your deposit is also only 10% as well. I reshopped a cruise I booked on opening day on the first sea day of my most recent cruise in May.

No, but it will qualify for the 6-months no finance charge offer.

It depends on the cruise. I plan on booking an Alaska cruise onboard in September. I figure I'll get about 600.00 off the cruise plus 200 OBB. So about 800.00 total savings. I also plan on naming Costco as my TA so I should get about 500.00 from Costco.

Wait so if you tell them your travel agent you get the OBC from the travel agent too? We use Small World Travel.

When you do an OBB, can you select a room? Can I book in advance and have them transfer it to an OBB?

Yes you can pick a room during OBB.
You can't transfer a previous booking but you can "reshop." This is where you go to the agent and ask them to reshop a specific reservation and they will pull up your existing reservation then price compare to the current OBB rate for the same room and date at current rates. They'll tell you if you save any money by changing. Sometimes you will, sometimes you won't. Then they can switch the booking over along with previous payments.
ETA-technically I think this is canceling and rebooking, but they refer to it as reshopping. Since it has saved me hundreds before, they can call it whatever they want, I'm still a happy camper.

I wouldn't count on that. We've done two cruises and did not book onboard. One time we received a coupon afterwards, the other time we did not.

Thanks for the info. I'm on the a Wonder next month so will have to do some pre shopping.

Yes they usually ask if you have a TA. Just name them when you make the reservation. If you forget you have 30 days to transfer the reservation to a TA.

While it's true that you can transfer an OBB to a TA within 30 days of booking, be aware that most TAs offer a reduced OBC for transferred reservations. (An exception to this is Costco Travel -- they give the same cash card even if you transfer to them). If you know you'll be using a TA, it's best to name them when you book onboard. If you didn't use that TA for the cruise you're on, DCL will need to know the name of the company, the name of the individual TA (if there is one), and their corporate phone number.

We've never received a code and never booked on board. We've been on two Disney cruises thus far. We should have booked on board, but didn't realize you can transfer bookings!

Wonder if Canadians don't receive codes?

There is one question that I can't find the answer for, maybe someone can help me.

If I book a cruise on opening day say March 2015, and take a cruise I have had booked in July 2015. I then book a cruise onboard July 2015 cruise for 2016 do I pay the price of the cruise at the time of July 2015 cruise or do they take the price from the opening day booking in March 2015.

I hope this makes sense, but I can't find the answer for it.

Given the high prices of many Disney cruises, 10% off can save hundreds of dollars - and perhaps several grand.

You pay the price in effect on the day you book the cruise.
