Why are Coronado Springs reviews so iffy?

We are booked there for 3 nights in August. Are people expecting more or is it really a hit or miss type of resort?

We love CSR. We have never really had a bad experience there. Some people don't think the theming is "Disney" enough. I know you can have a bad experience anywhere, but if you don't have unreasonable expectations you won't be disappointed. Look at the positives and have a great trip.

Imho its an ok place but it lacks the magic of many of the other Disney properties as the theming is pretty minimal. Plus many of the rooms are just old and tired. I've never stayed there but I visited probably 7 or 8 co-workers rooms during a conference. I was frankly shocked at the variance in quality.

Coronado Springs is my favorite moderate resort. It also has a Conference Center, so there are large groups of business people there at times. I think it has a more upscale, adult feel than other moderates like Caribbean Beach (which I really didn't like my stay at Caribbean Beach). It's usually just my husband and I going to Disney together.

There isn't a resort at WDW that will have all positive reviews. Plus if you're only looking at review sites, people are definitely more inclined to post a review if they had a negative experience over a positive experience.

Just look at the limited amount of replies to this thread already, it's mixed.

This. There's really nothing wrong with the place. To me it lacks Disneyness.

Struggling with booking a stay here for the January Marathon week. It's where our charity group is staying, and I'm ok with the look and feel of the resort. I think it's quite beautiful actually. What I'm concerned about is the reviews I'm reading about seem to frequently mention 'mold', 'unpleasant room odor' and 'worn and tired' in reference to the rooms. We spend a lot of time in the room after all the races, resting and hanging out...and a room that was less than clean and maintained would not be a good thing.

I know there are always good and bad reviews to every resort, but I start to wonder when I see quite a few negative ones saying the same thing~

Are you referring to the meaningless reviews on Tripadvisor?

Because the reviews on DIS are overwhelmingly positive on CSR. It's the Deluxe resort at the Mod price.

heh Nothing personal but I always find it funny when people who don't like the TA consensus on whatever property need to write off the whole system. You might be right, I don't know, but it just sounds convenient.

And deluxe resort at the mod price? A couple of the rooms I saw, yeah, that could fit. Others , no way. One room, the worst, had worn out furniture and ripples and stains in the bottom edge of the wall outside the bathroom from water damage and smelt like a wet dog.

I'm going for a Disney vacation, so I looked at a site with reviews from fellow vacationers. If I were going for work I would be more interested in TA, but I think those reviews are more from a business persons perspective and not your average Orlando visitor. Most of them offer nothing up about the bus service to the parks or even the pool. IMO, it's clear that most of the reviews are written by people who are used to traveling for work and were expecting something more than a Disney moderate hotel. :confused3

We love it there! I call it a deluxe light resort :)

We stayed there once... no way were we impressed ...we scratched this resort never to return to...

Cons:

To huge and spread out laterally...

As stated above, could be long walk to pool and food court

Not impressed with food set up in Pepper Market

Multiple bus stops

Walking across parking lots to get to bus stops

There are other resorts with closer and better amenities at the same price..

We love CSR. And for us it is because you're not hit over the head with mouse ears at every turn. It's a classy moderate with subtle Disney touches. The pool is awesome, the quiet pools are great if you prefer, well, quiet. And the gym is pretty nice as well. The landscaping is impeccable too as with all Disney properties.

The rooms are one of the nicest you will come across at a moderate as well. I like how there are pocket doors separating the bathroom area rather than just a curtain like you see at most other moderate resorts. The rooms feel bigger too. Also because this resort is so huge and spread out, you don't feel crowded. Of course we go at off peak times so that may be different story during peak times of the year.

DH and I stayed there for an adults only trip in January and enjoyed it. The food in the food court was pretty good and while some might consider the resort big and walking to places difficult we had no problems and enjoyed the grounds. We had no issues with transportation either, except the trip to DTD was long as it stopped (and waited) at a water park.

I did have issues with my room...I did online check and then got to the front desk to get everything activated and discussed my room choices(and was explained to that I would not be likely getting any of my choices, but was getting an "upgrade" which made us happy. We did get the wrong information on bus routes, but it didn't affect anything. Room was not ready so we left to go to a park, we received a text saying our room was ready about 5, but we stayed at DHS for F!. So after having a long day finishing up our drive to WDW and then at a park, DH and I really just wanted to settle into a room. We went to our "upgraded room" room which was horrible. It had connecting rooms (which made me paranoid and was annoying with the family next door opening and closing the door several times in the few minutes we were there), a football team was apparently practicing in the room above us. I initially called the front desk and was told by CM nothing could be done. I asked to speak to someone else and was told they would see if someone could call me back. 5 minutes later I got a call back and the CM on the phone was apologetic and helpful, they found us a new room (in the area I wanted and on the top floor-my original request!). Our new room was slightly dusty but did not phase us and we quickly settled in and went to bed.

Once our room situation was cleared up everything else was awesome! I have no clue why my requests were not granted yet they found a room which was clearly available, the dust made it obvious no one was in that room for a few days. I would be extra sure to be very clear with a cm about room requests before you head out for the day and come back sleepy. Yes, I know there are no guarantees on room requests, however the fact that I ended in getting a room that met both my requests was slightly irritating!

And not everyone has the same version if an upgrade.

As others have said it usually comes down to person preference. CSR is my favorite mod largely because it's not overtly Disney. There are subtle touches here and there but it isn't done in an over-the-top fashion. I can't comment on the room issues people have reported as we've never experienced that with ours; they've always been clean and free of mold. The grounds are large but that doesn't bother me and Ranchos, the furthest section from the main building, is my favorite as it's so quiet back there.

I like the bigger resorts, it seems less crowded to me. I rarely if ever use the resort amenities located in the main building. We never eat at a resort food court during our stay, so this is never a factor for me. I personally like the multiple bus stops. It usually means multiple buses are coming to the resort more frequently and the stops are less crowded vs one stop with a long line. I am also able to use the stop closest to my room to reduce some of the walking. Is walking across parking lots to get to the bus stops really that much of an issue? I drive down to WDW, so walking past my car in the parking lot in the morning is not always bad because I may need to grab something I forgot. I definitely don't see this as a safety issue. Maybe if you had to walk across a main road to get to the stop then yea.

I have never stayed at CSR but I am staying there in September. I am looking forward to it.

We love CSR! I was skeptical when reading the trip advisor reviews but then realized the negative ones were from convention guests that were used to everything in the same building and didn't want to walk to get to everything.

I agree with PP that CSR has some items that other moderates don't and we like that. The main pool area is very nice and we don't mind the walking. We also like that its not Disney 100% like an all stars but none of the deluxes are.

As I said I have never stayed at CSR, but I have stayed at POR and SSR. Both of those resorts are large and spread out. I prefer the larger resorts because they are spread out. They are able to handle a large amount of guests without the resort feeling crowded or loud. Many people say CSR is not "Disneyfied" enough, but that is a plus for me. I don't want to stay at ahotel with over the top theming (for instance any value). I want a nice, comfortable hotel room to escape the parks in. Most of the things people say are negatives about CSR (or SSR for that matter) are the things that make it attractive to me.

Of all the moderates I liked CSR the best, having stayed at all except POR. As far as theming it is the southwest, CBR is the islands and POFQ is New Orleans. What is Disney about those? We liked the pool, the grounds and the food court variety. The bus service was excellent; the only place I've seen with a CM ensuring that a bus was called if one arrived full. Our room was well maintained and kept clean for us.

Glad to hear someone say something positive about the bus service. I have an 8 night stay coming up in Septmeber. I am really looking forward to it. I have stayed several times at SSR and once at POR, I found the large resorts to be very efficient at bus service.
