After a super awesome trip to the World May 22-May 31 I left hoping to return in October (and booked the room bounce back to prove it). Little did I know that YESTERDAY as I was working on my photo pass pictures (and taking a break on Facebook) that things would change so rapidly.
Around 3:00 YESTERDAY I saw the David’s DVC advertisement for the August last minute deals. Well I don’t know about you but I always price them out and it never really goes any further…until YESTERDAY.
So I send my wonderful husband this text…..

So even though he said I could…. I couldn’t really book anything without talking to him so I wait for his call around 5:30 and we decide to go for it. I filled out the form on Davids DVC website and anxiously waited until about 11am this morning. They said my dates were available and I would have to pay the balance to secure the reservation. I did immediately and it took about 5 more hours until I had a reservation number.
We are going back in just 39 days!!!! I have loads of planning to do! Yay!!

(next post I will do intros but here is a sneak peak at us!)

So let’s back it up and get this started the proper way:
PTR introductions!!
First up: Me! Stacy-stay at home mom, family Disney vacation planner, 95% vegetarian (I will eat seafood a few times a year), and wannabe Jazzercise instructor.

5 Disney facts:
1. I didn’t see WallE until last year but it is now my all-time favorite Disney movie
2. My only memory of my childhood 1 day Magic Kingdom trip is the Orange Bird.
3. Favorite Disney rides: Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Dinosaur, and Philharmagic.
4. Favorite Disney meal: Sanaa, Tangerine Café, Tusker House and Columbia Harbour House
5. I am trying to stay at every resort and obsessed with becoming a DVC owner.

Aaron: father, husband, engineer, Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey fan (actually we all are….)

5 Disney facts:
1. Favorite movies are the Incredibles and Meet the Robinsons
2. Epcot is his favorite park
3. Dole Whip Floats are his cool down refreshment of choice (Mickey bars work in a pinch, too!).
4. Peoplemover, Soarin, Dinosaur and Buzz Lightyear are his favorite rides. Refuses to do any coaster wilder than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
5. Lives in fear during the Laugh Floor that be will be chosen.

Olivia-daughter, newly 19, undecided college student, Kohl’s employee, vegetarian, DCP 2015 applicant?

5 Disney facts:
1. Has a thing for Peter Pan and Jake (from the Neverland Pirates)
2. Favorite Disney meals: Chef Mickeys, Tusker house, and Cosmic Rays
3. Lion King and Toy Story are her favorite movies
4. Loves the animation class in the Animation Building but is a perfectionist and can’t get over the no eraser situation.
5. Sat in the driver’s seat of a Disney bus at 11 (don’t worry she didn’t get to drive it)

Lucy-daughter, age 10, 5th grader, quirky and sweet

5 Disney facts:
1. Only 10 year old girl that loves Cars (started last year before our DL trip and was fostered there).
2. Reluctantly has ridden Space Mountain and Tower of Terror and hated them both. Still trying to get her to try Splash and Everest (which she will also hate).
3. Was a guest at a Disney wedding (along with me) at age three.
4. Looking forward to her second Lefou’s Brew on our next trip (and any or all other Disney snacks she can get her hands on).
5. Rode on the carrousel with Peter Pan at Disneyland.

Alright….do you feel like you know us now? Ready to follow along while I plan this trip in now 38 days??? It’s gonna be quick!!

37 Days to go.....

So now that we are all friends lets get back to the planning. So…the David’s DVC deal ($8 per point) was for stays at Saratoga Springs only. As I stated above I am on a mission to stay at all resorts so returning to a resort I just stayed at in March wouldn’t have been my first choice but I gladly jumped on it.

It was too cold in March but looking forward to hanging with this guy at the pool in August!

I REALLY enjoyed this resort and have very few concerns with returning! My only two small concerns are: 1. Lack of 2nd bed. My girls don’t sleep together great as it is but on a pullout it might get ugly BUT…I will hear no complains! In March it was just Aaron and I so it wasn’t an issue. AND 2. Buses. I really am not super concerned especially since we are going with a more relaxed touring schedule (more to come) but you constantly hear complaints about the buses at SSR. In March we only had one park day and spent most of the rest of our days walking to Downtown Disney so really the location for that trip was perfect.

Some room pictures at SSR in March:

I am pretty obsessed with having a balcony and I loved our balcony at SSR.

Selfie:

Would give anything for this view...and some school bread for breakfast right now!

Just taking a moment to laugh at the comparison of our horrible roof top Beach Club view last month. It was a total let down.

It may be this way at all DVC properties but I LOVED how this room felt more like a home than a resort and I am excited be returning!

Planning on sending in my room requests to David's today and going with my same requests as in March: Congress Park area (closest to Downtown Disney walk), upper floor (less traffic and hopefully eliminates the chances of a porch instead of a balcony) and water view (which we did get a sliver but really would love a FULL water view).

36 Days to go....

So it took about 24 hours from my initial email to David’s until I had a reservation number in hand. Once I had this I wanted to get our air booked ASAP since I had planned our dates based on available air.

We prefer to fly nonstop and on our outbound trip we had two choices: depart at 6am or depart at 1:55pm. A 6am flight is early. Really, really early. Olivia and I took that flight out for our trip in May. It was amazing to arrive at MCO so early but it also really sucks to get out of bed at 3:15am or whatever crazy hour we got up at….add in the rest of the family AND having to board our dogs the night before and that was enough for us to decide on the 1:55pm departure.

Our return flight was easy….I wanted the latest nonstop flight out (of course) and that was 4:55pm. Perfect! It will give us a bit of time that morning to squeeze something in.

So the flight prices weren’t amazing but we grabbed them and now I patiently wait for Southwest to drop the price so we can grab credit for a future trip!!

In flight picture taken in May…is there any other way to fly??

34 days to go....

SO…on to the schedule (which is a work in progress!):
At first I thought maybe we would just do two park days and two relaxing/other activities days. I have an AP but the rest of the family needs tickets so as I looked at the pricing and tried to figure out what parks we would skip I decided (at least for now…) that 4 full trip days seemed like destiny that we should visit each park once. BUT to keep things relaxing we are going to sleep in and plan some non-park activities in the AM and then arrive at the parks around or just after lunch.

YES….all you rope droppers…I said it. SLEEP IN! See I am using this vacation as a bit of a test for us. We are rope drop failures. I understand the idea behind it but we are those people that try as we may but still arrive at 9:15…or whatever. So it ends up being so much effort to get there and then in the end we are too late to be early. With our tendency to be night people anyways and the heat I think we will be happier sticking with a later/closing touring plan.

The tentative plans for now are:

Wednesday-Arrival at 4PM-Downtown Disney

Thursday-AM Winter Summerland mini golf-PM Animal Kingdom

Friday-AM Exploring resort/pool-PM Magic Kingdom (might flip to Saturday)

mine train selfie!!

Saturday-AM sleep in?-PM Epcot (might flip to Friday)

Sunday-AM walk to OKW for explore resort-PM Hollywood Studios

So we will see if these plans are still the same tomorrow...

Hello!!

I didn't know your husband is an engineer! What kind of engineering? My BF does materials science.

Wait a minute...is Saratoga Springs a horse themed resort?! .....how did I not know this. I love horses and horse racing. Geez.

I loved that view from the beach club...your balcony pretty much let out onto the roof :rotfl2:

Did I miss it or have you not mentioned your exact dates? Because I may be going for the villains party weekend...

I've done a last minute trip too (week before!!) and rented points and it was a GREAT trip! I'm excited for you! Your trip is already very soon - did you do your FP+??

I haven't ever stayed at Saratoga Springs - I've seen so many pictures, and they're gorgeous! I love horses too!

Hey, Rachel! Thanks for stopping by! I know PTR aren't usually too exciting to many but is was really lonely here.

Yes...Aaron is a civil engineer and does traffic engineering. Seems like there are loads of engineers in Columbus.

Funny, I am not really a big horse person but we really enjoyed Saratoga when we stayed there in March (although we might have enjoyed anywhere since we didn't have the kids with us! :rotfl2: ). It has a really relaxing, laid back feel. Very excited to be returning!

Yeah the BC balcony was a pretty big let down. Although on some level I was just happy to get one since many of the rooms there have the standing only Juliet balcony. I really love having the extra space.

So spill on your villains party plan? No we are going earlier in August. Olivia takes her final for her summer class at CSCC and Lucy starts back to school 9 days later so we had a pretty small window to work with. Working around my kids schools schedules...especially now that their schedules are so different is a huge pain! I would love to go though...

Hi!!:yay: Wow, a week planning would be crazy! I think sometimes trips like that end up being the best.

No I haven't done FP+ yet. I have been procrastinating purchasing tickets since it is such a huge expense (I have an AP but the others don't). Since today is 30 days out I am planning to deal with that today or tomorrow. In our past two trips I have had pretty good luck with FP booking so I am not super worried. We definitely want to ride the 7DMT another time but other than that I am just going with the flow.

We had a great stay at Saratoga in March so I am hoping for a repeat. We have actually been talking about purchasing DVC points and Saratoga is one of the resorts we are looking at!!

I think you're right - that week before my trip I was on cloud nine! I was also lucky enough to get AKL, and was excited about that too! But then again, I have a trip coming up in October and it's so much fun being excited about it for a long period of time. I think you're doing it just right - about 40 days, so you have plenty of time to be excited but not so long that you feel like your vacation will never come! Most of my trip planning is 90 days out.

I wouldn't be worried about booking FP+ either! I've seen too many threads with people worrying about it, and then threads with people booking them for great times the week before their trips!

I keep eyeballing DVC myself, but with some life changes it isn't in the cards for awhile. If I did buy, I'd be CR or BC resale all the way; those are my favorite resorts! But isnt SSR the resort you can walk to DTD from? Or am I thinking of the wrong place?

Half the fun with trips is the planning so I would hate to cut it too close (although a VERY last minute trip would be exciting and I would never turn it down!). Everyone laughs at me that I start to get sad that vacation is almost over BEFORE we even leave. I am sure that is me mourning the end of the planning process.

AKL is on our list of resorts to stay at soon! I am not certain if I would want to stay there for a whole trip or to do a split stay there but it is very beautiful and has the best restaurants!

When are you going in October? We have a bounce back room booked for late October at Coronado Springs but not sure if it will happen because of this trip. We have never gone to MNSSHP and its my youngest last year in elementary school so it could be my last chance to pull her from school for a trip. We will see...

Yes, SSR is the resort you can walk to DTD. That is an awesome feature...especially for a trip where you aren't planning as much park time! I recommend it.

DVC is so tempting and I do think we will take the plunge soon but it will definitely be through resale. Direct is out of our price range!

I do the same thing! I'm already dreading the trip being over. :rotfl:

I love a good split stay; AKL plus some other resort sounds just as good to me. But it smells so good in the lobby; I would like to visit again just for that!

I'm going in early October; I'm not giving my dates on the DIS because I've had some issues in the past. That would be nice if you could do an August AND an October trip.... just saying! ;) I did an October and a January trip....

I wouldn't mind staying at a "horse resort" that I could just walk over to DTD! I will definitely keep it in mind for a future trip; how's the bus service?

I agree; personally I would not buy direct, though I understand why some people do it. I would be buying DVC to stay at Disney anyway, so I wouldn't miss the "perk" of trading my DVC for another timeshare week somewhere.

Hi Stacy! Cute family. Saratoga Springs looks beautiful. I would consider staying there in the future. I planned a trip to WDW in two days last summer. I'm very spontaneous (ahem...impulsive). I was unexpectedly facing a long weekend for July 4th in 2013 and thought that a spur of the moment trip would be fun. The boyfriend and I rented a car, booked an inexpensive off site hotel and hit the road! We had no ADR's, so we had slim pickin's when it came to dining. Unfortunately, I found the crowds to be too intense on July 4th. We left the park (EPCOT) early and headed back to the hotel. The other days surrounding July 4th were manageable and fun!
We are leaving for WDW in less than 2 weeks and I planned this trip spontaneously as well. DBF and I had planned on taking a hiatus from Disney for a couple of years. Then, I noticed that WDW had 30% off for POR rooms. I could not pass that deal up! We planned this current vacation about 40 days in advance.
I have also booked a WDW vacation this January 2015. We are renting DVC points and have a one bedroom at the Beach Club. I hope that I don't receive the view that you had. Awful.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer and have fun on your next vacation.

I have heard mixed things about the buses at SSR. When we stayed there we mostly did a resort stay with just one day at Epcot so I can't really give you a good answer...yet.

Hello! :wave2: Thanks for the compliment!

Two days...that is serious! What a fun adventure! Sorry about the crowds...it can get overwhelming especially in the heat. I can deal with one or the other but both can just be too much.

LOL...all that we need to come out of a Disney hiatus is the right deal. 30% off at POR is great. I didn't think they reduced POR/POFQ rooms very often or when they do they fill quick. Hope you were able to plan a bit more with your 40 days of planning. :lmao:

I have to say that the BC is my favorite resort to date....jealous of your 1BR stay. That should be great.

So I have been busy….I’ve adjusted our park days (and added one), made a few ADRs and booked our FP’s! Here it goes (tried to include a "relevant" picture...because we all like reports with pictures, right?)...listed are our FPs but by no means all we plan to do!!

Wednesday: Arrival at MCO around 4
  • MDE to SSR
  • Off to Magic Kingdom
  • BTMRR
  • Talking Mickey!! (pretty sure Aaron and Lucy don't know he exists)
  • Space Mountain (for me and Olivia)
  • Tomorrowland Speedway (for Aaron and Lucy)

Magic Kingdom picture from May 2014 (Thankfully we won't have to worry about meeting A&E again!)

Thursday:
  • Epcot
  • ADR at Garden Grill
  • Soarin
  • Maelstrom
  • Figment

"Vintage" pictures(2006) from our first and only visit to Garden Grill. Happy to be going back!

Friday:
  • Animal Kingdom
  • ADR at Sanaa
  • Dinosaur
  • Festival of the Lion King
  • Primeval Whirl (Olivia and Lucy)
  • Everest (Aaron and me but Olivia will ride for Aaron)

Picture of the lovely, delicious bread service at Sanaa:

Saturday:
  • Magic Kingdom
  • ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern
  • 7DMT
  • Peter Pan
  • Ariel meet in her Grotto
***on the hunt for a reservation for the Wishes dessert party. I know it won’t happen but we had a reservation that we gave up in May because Olivia wasn’t going to be there for the day we had it. I would love to try this so I will check every day with a sliver of hope that it might happen.***

One of my favorite pictures from our trip in 2012:

Sunday:
  • Hollywood Studios
  • Toy Story Mania
  • Indiana Jones
  • Tower of Terror

May 2014 (-Olivia)

Monday:
  • check out
  • DTD or anything else we haven’t gotten to yet. Estimated time for MDE pick up is 2pm
  • As I said before I am hoping to do various activities in the morning before arriving at the parks at lunchtime/mid-day. I have decided NOT to assign specific activities to specific days. We will just do the best we can. Those activities include:
  • Pool time
  • Morning outside jog (me only…if it’s not sweltering hot)
  • Walk to OKW to explore for possible DVC purchase and then have breakfast at Olivia’s
  • Golf at Winter Summerland
  • Visit the Boardwalk to 1. Tour DVC model and 2. Lucy wants the hair yarn braided thing they do there. 
  • Downtown Disney (ummm…Marketplace Coop! Yes please!)
  • Animal Kingdom Lodge resort touring
  • Outside movies/s’mores making at resort
Unfortunately we won’t get to all those activist but hoping for a few. Sheew…I’m exhausted!

Slow planning week. Honestly I didn’t do a whole lot but now it’s time (or past time, really) for me to start thinking about what we will wear!! Before a trip I usually spend a fair amount of time and money finding new (Disney) things for us to wear but given that I JUST did that I am really trying to limit the extra spending….I kind of agreed to keep this trip affordable.

BUT I do cringe at the thought of us wearing the exact outfits that we did in May so I am going to do my best to shake it up with making minimal purchases.

SO….getting that out of the way I thought it would be fun to go back historically and see some of the clothes I have made for us in the past. I don’t claim to be a great sewer/crafter but do enjoy making Disney clothes for us!
In 2006 I made the girls this skirt and dress combo:

I keep trying to shimmy myself into that skirt Olivia wore (is it not perfect for Ohana??) but it is not very Disney friendly when I do!!

When we went to DLR in 2007 I made two skirts for Lucy. This one has a Nemo tiers in the skirt. Hard to really see but it’s there!

In 2009 we did the family tie dye shirts and I also made two “pillowcase” style dresses for Lucy:

In 2012 for Lucy I made this Phineas and Ferb shirt:

In May of this year I focused on me!! I made this Wall-E skirt:

Then Lucy and I had two sets of matching skirts (will wear this one again!) Please ignore the Instagram over-editing that has happened to the picture:

And my favorite skirt (wearing again!) I had a sweet CM chase me down over this one!!:

Soooo….for this trip I need a total of 6 outfits.

So far it looks like:
Travel Day/MK: Matching red skirt shown above w/Lucy but mixing it up with a black tank instead of white

EP: uncertain?

AK: skirt made from this “vintage” bambi sheet (making this week)

MK: possible Winnie the Pooh skirt (would be but need to find fabric....this might be a hint that I am thinking about adding Crystal Palace ;) . Would try and make something for Lucy to coordinate with....either skirt of shirt.

DHS: blue vintage skirt from last trip shown above…again maybe a different tank

Travel Day: Nothing homemade? Disney tank and shorts?

I have a few fabrics I am eyeing on eBay but those need to happen soon in order to have time to prep and make something. I will keep you posted.

Just a mini-update...

I had to stay up until 12:30...and work a last minute snipe but I won the other fabric I was eyeing! Woot! It's another Wall-E print and I am beyond excite about it. My Wall-E skirt from May has such a large pattern that it is really hard to see that it is Wall-E (I am finding this to often be the case with these sheets I am using as fabric) but this pattern is much smaller!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-034-x-42...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I paid a bit more than I should have but it happens. :)

And also on a non-August trip update:

Tomorrow is the princess half registration (well I could have registered last week with my AP). I am torn on what to do. I was going with 3 other girls for the last 4 months and then that has fallen apart over the last couple weeks.

Honestly the princess half isn't my first choice to be my first Disney race (I have been eyeing the TOT race) BUT not sure if I want to wait until NEXT October for my first one.

Plus...Over the last few months I HAVE gotten excited over it. Ugh! But at the moment I don't really have a solid person to go with. I just can't decide if I register anyways and go with a non-runner. And there is also the option of Olivia going as she has expressed interest BUT she will be in classes and I really don't know if she should be spending that kind of money on a race.

I will be running differnt scenarios in my head all day.....I'll let you know what I decide.

Congrats on getting the fabric you wanted! I am teaching myself to sew so it's slow going, but I have managed to do some things like hem a dress and hem some curtains, so I don't feel too down on my lack of abilities!

I am ashamed to admit I still haven't seen Wall-E. There are actually quite a few popular movies (like Finding Nemo) that I haven't seen!

Why don't you just go by yourself? Solo trips are great! Nothing says you have to be gone for a week or anything; you could stay value or rent points to keep room costs down. I love my solo trips!

If not, why not go to the WISH forum here and find other runners? At least you'd have someone to hang out at the corrals with. I know IHeartDD is going, and she's super friendly and fun.

I taught myself to sew also. That might explain why my skills have peaked. :rolleyes1

Oh I completely recommend Wall-E! I hadn't seen it until last year and it is now just about my all time favorite. You need to see it!

I would love to do a solo trip sometime but decided against trying to put together something last minute for the princess half. I was bummed for a few days last week but I have moved on and am ok with it. I am really hoping to do the TOT race in 2015. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Thanks for stopping by! :wave2:

Another slow Disney week! I guess when you plan a more laid back trip the planning is pretty laid back too!

Earlier in the week before I prepared my crafting area for sewing I decided to make a countdown for our fridge. Nothing super fancy but here is what I ended up with:

I still have yet to start any sewing but I promise to this week!

Other than that the main things I have been doing are:
  • Obsessively checking SW for airfare price drops with the hopes of a credit
  • Obsessively checking for a Wishes Dessert reservation to open up
  • Obsessively trying to decide on one (or maybe two…) extra surprises for the trip….wish I could say more but Olivia might be reading this and I am hoping to keep it a surprise. IF it happens!
  • Obsessively freaking out that my Magical Express tags aren’t here. I email Davids DVC and they said they are ordered so I will just continue to wait by the mailbox.
