Anyone flown with hair colour kit?

Are we allowed to pack hair colour kits in our checked baggage? Venice plus our 12 day cruise means I need to do root touch ups on the trip. I'm worried that hair colour kits will blow up or something on planes.

Anyone have any advice on this dumb question?

I wouldn't risk staining my clothes. You can buy stuff like that in Italy.

if it's liquid, it has to be in checked luggage, and I'd have to think about it getting squashed because you wont ever get that stuff out of clothes. maybe take it out of the box and put it in a ziplock, although ziplocks aren't totally leakproof.

they sell root touch up in Italy?

I was planning on wrapping it up in lots of plastic bags...do you think that would help?

Root touch up is just a small amount of the liquid stuff.

i do have this bag that I put my liquids in...and it hasn't leaked through yet.

But is it allowed?

in checked bag it is OK by the law

but if it were my wife I'd suggest 'not' and no one will ever notice ... AND you'll never see them again . . .

if you do it ... put it in the plastic bag and in that bag also put something very absorbent ... paper towels folded up at least. But maybe you know something else ... very absorbent but compact :rolleyes1 ... just in case of a leak ... :confused3

I would wrap it up many times and the touch up is really small kit.

But no worries about it blowing up or being illegal? That were my main concerns because there is a little bit of hydrogen peroxide in the kit i think.

Are you going to use the ships bathroom to dye your hair? To me that seems more of a issue than transporting it....

They do have a salon on the ships too.... Maybe they could do the touch up :)

Your hair must grow really fast if you are worried about getting a touch up on vacation... Get it done the week before you leave and you should be fine. Otherwise, buy some at one of your ports. I am sure that North America is not the only place that sells color kits. :)

Put it in a ziploc, then put the ziploc inside of a tupperware container with a screw on lid. I have actually transported whiskey several times in my check luggage. I just bubble wrapped it several times then placed it between my clothes. Never had a problem with it breaking.

I am away from home 5.5 weeks. I wasn't going to dye my hair on the ship and I was going to bring my own towel from home and do it in Barcelona at the condo we are renting.

I won't need to touch up yet on the ship, but afterwards.

I like the idea of putting it in a container.:)

Go to Sally's beauty supply. There is a nifty tube kinda like a large lipstick called "tween". You run it under water and then color your hair like a crayon. It is a miracle. Go get it! It is a solid and a lifesaver!!!

I have flown twice with a boxed root touch up kit. As you mention it is a very small amount of liquid. I took everything out of the box and just put all the stuff from box in a zip lock bag and had no problems (in checked luggage).

thanks! I guess I just wanted to hear that someone else had done it.

Curious about the sally's beauty supply. I've never heard of it. I wonder if it is available in Canada? I will look for it.

Does it stain though?

they sell root touch up in Italy?

Why wouldn't they?

Alternatively, what if you chose to live like a local, and found a nice salon to have it done?

Your original post said "venice and a 12 day cruise"...there's nothing in that that could make us think the trip would be 5.5 weeks, in case you were wondering why people thought your hair grew quickly!

Sorry I didn't put in all the details but I wanted the disboarders to know that I was actually taking a dcl vacation.

The don't sell the root touch up in Portugal. Not all products that are available at home will be available in Europe.

I would go to a salon, but my hair normally takes 3 hours to do at a salon. I don't know if I want to take the time to explain what I want...just to cover up my roots when I love my hair dresser at home! Plus we are a group of six and I don't want to take travel time away for me to go colour my roots.

It takes 30 minutes start to finish with this kit and I can do it in the condo.

i appreciate all the tips though:)

I have taken hair dye.....full box in checked bag with me to use at a resort.
It was fine.

Tween doesn't stain anything I've had so far. It washes out so I reapply after washing hair. Maybe google tween and see if it is sold elsewhere. It is a miracle lol
