(New TR Link) Yo Ho, Yo Ho- Rum and Sharks for Me!An Eastern Fantasy TR May 31-June 7

OMG you have me so excited for our cruise!:cool1:

I wish I could be early everywhere! As hard as I try my DH can not be early or on time for that matter:scared1: When I make a schedule DH gets mad and says I don't understand why we have to be "on time" all the time! He seriously think times are suggestions! Drives me nuts! But he will wear matching shirts, so I guess I lucked out there! Although he used to say I had to limit it to once a trip. On our last trip he enjoyed all the compliments we got when we wore our matching shirts so much he said we do them more than once on the cruise!:woohoo:

Here's why I'm always early.... my stepfather is insanely early as well. And expects everyone to be on time. So growing up he would say 'be ready by 5pm'. And if you were not in the car at 4:55 he would literally drive away with out you. He does this to anyone and everyone.

So I learned... be early or get left behind! :) It's carved in my brain.

I fear I show about the same impatience with dealing with late people. I find I don't have much tolerance. I guess some things you are brought up with you can't shake.

I do wish I could shake the being SO early it's insane...and instead just always be 'on time'.

Great update mon'
My DH wore the t shirt for approx. 1 hour, it was a triumph ;-)

It is a triumph. It's 1 hour longer than mine!

Course I saved the $10 and just used it for a drink instead. So maybe I came out ahead?! :confused3

I have gotten so behind on my commenting, but I have been following along, I promise! you know i'm not gonna miss any of the cruise fun!

I LOVE the photoshopped pic of DH joining in on the matching shirt fun against his will! brilliant!

ok, drink of the day? I'm very interested in hearing more about this drink of the day.....

oh, pools....I guess I feel like they put so much dang chlorine in them, the pee doesn't stand a chance! my oldest was looking at your pictures with me and getting very excited about the mickey pool and aquaduck. was it wrong that I told her she had to learn to swim before the cruise because they don't let you go in the water if you can't swim? possible bad parenting moment....

so let me ask you this....we are planning on doing the one day at castaway, one day at Nassau cruise next October. there's also one with two stops at castaway we could do. what are your thoughts on those?

All I can say about this Drink of the Day is if they offer it- get one. It's called the Paradise and it's GOOD! I think it was my favorite of the whole week. Although whatever drink special they had going on Castaway was pretty good too......

The pools do have an insane amount of chlorine in them. Pee really won't survive. But the again, it has an insane amount of children in them too! :rotfl2: It''s just really the thought of all the pee vs. the health danger of it all...for me to get my actual body in it.

Hey, if it gets them to swim- go for it! But, the Mickey pool is VERY shallow. And there are floatation devices available everywhere.

Without a doubt (and I'll scream this) GO FOR THE TWO STOPS AT CASTAWAY. Seriously, Castaway is maybe my favorite place on earth. It's so, so awesome. If you can get two stops there - do it! In 2012 we did the double dipper along with Nassau. We didn't even get off in Nassau (not our cup of tea). We did that itin specifically to hit Castaway twice. It's so seriously awesome. Do it. Do it. Do it. Bring me with you. Oh wait, how'd that get in there! :)

thanks for the info--on the drinks and the cruise! and if I can figure out a way to smuggle you in with us, i'll let you know! ;)

All caught up!

I am probably just about as anal about being early as you are. I enjoyed my time at WDW, but I think I'll be pushing for PC the night before (for our next cruise). I just felt way too rushed by the time we got to Port. Granted, it was still early... 11:30... but I was on a mission. As a result, I didn't get the pictures I wanted.

Love the kill-joy comments. Tyler only wore the shirt because he must have realized he didn't stand a chance fighting it. We loved seeing all the shirts as we were pulling up to Port and boarding and checking-in. Haha.

So fun to read the differing perspective from Day 1.

Yes, and we are only a few days in to Day 1. Hahahahahaha...

I have to think most of the guys wore the shirts just to please the gals! I knew he'd never wear it again.. so I saved the money and got a drink instead! :)

So we last left off with me putting my children in a pee-soaked rodent shaped pool. They were happily splashing in urine and so my mother and I left the hubby with his beer and the children. No fear everyone, we put a life jacket on the little one (read: left hubby with kids...and beer) & the rodent pool was only about 3 feet deep.

And off we went to explore the ship. Funny enough. I have exactly ONE picture from this exploration. (Ok, we only explored the adult pool & decks).

So here it is... ta da.... my mother. At Satellite Falls.

We both exclaimed how lovely this area seemed. And we both said we looked forward to spending some time here on the cruise. Here's a spoiler. Guess how much time we spent in the peace and quiet of this adult area.

You're looking at it. The time we spent taking this picture. So yhea. Fail on that mission.

This is my side note to say that I never felt as busy on a cruise as I did on this particular one. I was always going going going. Maybe it was because it was my first with three kids. I dunno.. but I never had time to much of anything I wanted to it seemed.

Anyways. Coming back out of the area.. I ran into the first person I actually recognized. Laura (Hi Laura!) and her mom Cynthia. We said hellos and talked a wee bit..... and then we headed back down to the pools.

Becca was dying to see the Edge. She had talked nothing for weeks except how excited she was to go to this Tween Club. So off we went to see it.

It was... um.. tiny.

There you go. That's it. There was a bunch of computers/video games...and little interaction.

Truthfully, she tried one more time the next day. And gave up on the Edge. She was very disappointed. Now. I have read since coming home that many people felt that way about the Edge this trip. And that is not always the norm. Also the tweens on this boarding we incredibly rude (I thought) and ran amok the ship. Pushing people on the stairs... hitting all the elevator buttons. I'm kinda glad she didn't really go hang with them.

Meanwhile- since DH had finished the beer. I sent him with the camera and the two youngest to the Oceaneers Lab Open House to register. Now this, THIS is a club! He took approx. 4 pictures. I had told him to take 'lots' and by his definition... 'lots' meant more than 1.

Computer area where Sarah spent all her time. Take her on a cruise. What does she want to do? Play the computer. Lovely. Least it was in a fairy setting?!

This was all only on the 'club' side. The lab side (mean for older kids) had no pictures taken. It's really a great club. Blows away every other cruise line by a million miles!

He went to leave & there was a minor snafu when I forgot to tell him the password and he called me...and... well, I also forgot the password I picked months earlier. Winner, winner chicken dinner. So yhea, the lab people had to tell us our password. And then we changed it. Good thing we were really their parents.

Our stateroom was ready at 1:30. And 1:30 we went down. We were located in adjoining cabins midship, deck 7.

Our bed-most comfortable beds EVER known to man kind.

The closets & the two doors are the two bathrooms.

Bathroom #1 with the tub/sink

Bathroom #2 with toilet/sink

The living room area/bunk. The bunk folded up in the ceiling and the lower bed was a couch. We just kept it like this (as beds) the entire week.

Our balcony combined with my mom's balcony... (we opened the divider)

The room itself was smaller than I remember on the Dream. Kurt agreed. We both think we booked a bigger room on the Dream. But it was a nice room regardless.

We had little time before it was time to head down to the huge DIS facebook meetup held in the D-Lounge.

It was a sea of green/blue.

I may have mentioned (and hard to believe based on my writing) but I am INCREDIBLY shy until I get to know someone. I am also not great at just throwing myself into a group situation. I like to hold hands and wade in with someone I know. And so all the people, already in clusters...well, I felt a wee bit awkward.

I pulled the kids over to the breakout of groups. Becca to the tweens where she meet someone and did a quiz. Sarah to make a lego cruise ship and Charlie over to the little kid table.

Where it was in that second I realized... I said I'd bring glue sticks. And, guess what I forgot... glue sticks. It didn't even cross my mind and I felt so incredibly bad. So bad. And when you are on a Disney ship...there ain't no running out to get glue sticks. I felt horrible. I found the person in charge.. apologized. I could tell she was miffed. I would be too if it was me... but I could do nothing about it at this point. It just put an instant damper on the meeting for me because I felt so bad.

So what could I do? I hoped someone else would bring some (others offered). And did a quick walk around. Met a few people like Lindy (who I'm running PHM with) and Jane and Jennifer. Ran into Laura and her mom again. By this point Sarah was done & begging to leave. My mom was just sitting. Kurt was ready to go. And so we just decided to leave. We missed the group picture... but I took this from our FB page.

This is maybe 1/2 of the group (many had left already):

So that was the big group meet up. We went back to our room where our bags started to arrive. And I went into instant unpack mode. I wanted stuff put away & my 'home' for the week ready.

At 4pm we had to break to do the mandatory safety boat drill. Into the Buena Vista theater we went to hear our instructions & then were released.

Right back upstairs for the 4:30 Sail Away Party.

We got up kinda close & enjoyed the dancing and singing.......

Eh, are those characters going to make me dance with them? Mom, I'm a little scared here....

Gram knocked over a few families to get up and in front of her favorites.

Sorry cute little kid on the ground. We're gonna try to sell her off at Pirate Night to Captain Hook. (no real kids were injured in this process. I am telling a fable). She just elbowed some kids out of the way a little bit.

But not these two cuties

Soon enough we heard the best sound.. the Disney Horn. It ain't no ordinary horn. No. It plays "When You Wish Upon A Star". Ah. LOVE!!!

Then we did the YMCA. Charlie LOVED It.

And headed back down to our balcony to sail out of the channel.

Kurt was very busy waving to everyone. I was very busy watching the water.

Know why? Because... did you know that Cocoa Beach and Daytona Beach are #1 shark attack/sighting in the US of A? True story. And my eyes were on the prowl. I saw some Sting Rays. I saw party boats. I saw fishing boats. But no sharks. But they probably saw me and were laughing with their horrible sharp teeth ridden mouth wide open.

So then we passed Cocoa Beach and I screamed out "NO ONE GO IN THE WATER..SHARKS ARE IN THAT WATER" to all the beach goers.

Gawk. Look at all those people still in the water. I can't handle it. I had to go inside.

No kidding. I didn't go inside. I sat out on that balcony looking for those sharks. Till we were out to sea. And I was forced to dress for dinner.

Which is next installment of this great shark crusade. With Rum.

Great update! I love all the pictures. Our oldest already talks about all the time she's spending in "the kid area. Where you can't go, mom". She'll be excited to see those pictures!

The party looks so fun! And I had no idea the whistle was when you wish upon a star. I can't wait to hear that!

I posted my update and lo and behold, I find a Nicole update! Woot woot!

I just have to start with how entertained (so sorry) I am with the shark thing. I am sure if I thought about it a little more, I would be just as concerned. There is no reason to take sharks lightly.

Your one picture of the adult area is one more than I got the whole cruise. And we even went there a few times! Actually, I think that is where my parents lived. The four of us "kids": "Where do you think mom and dad are? .......The adult area." I thought it would be my brothers that I would never see, but instead it was my parents.

As to the kids' clubs: I am thinking maybe the older kids' clubs are less cool because they aren't thinking the tweens and teens will be spending that much time there? :confused3 Also, I agree about the tweens. Their manners went on a different vacation.

So great that we kept running into each other! Wish I was doing the PHM with you. I am really thinking once I have accrued some vacation it can happen.

The kids club is very, very cool. Although not sure what boat you are doing? I can't remember. There is a difference in size between the new ships and the old ships (although both run excellent programs- so I wouldn't let that be a factor in anything!)

The horn also plays A dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, It's a Small World & Yo Ho Yo Ho Pirates Life for me. It's so, so cool.

I am so incredibly paranoid about sharks with absolutely no reason to be. I think because I'm rather fascinated by them.. like this crazy prehistoric creature that lurks in our seas...

I am not joking when I say whenever I am vacationing near any body of salt water I do extensive research on types of sharks, their behaviors and attack numbers of the area. It's honestly shaping all my Hawaii plans. :)

I know- PATHETIC!!

Oh, that would be so cool if you could do PHM.. I am very looking forward to it. I was very blessed to find another great group of women that I've connected with running that race (much like our gals cruise group!).

Holy crap your cruise group was large!

I think the only real meet my cruise group has set up is a group of 25 of us doing a private Mixology class.

Too bad about the Edge not having a good group for your daughter.

Sharks are friends ;)

You have me lol:lmao: and say that's so me every time I read one of your updates!

I am extremely shy at first too! I am so on the fence about joining in on the meet of our cruise because is my shyness. I usually force myself to get over it and I am usually happy I did so, but I don't want to be nervous about it leading up to the trip, when there are so many other things fit me to worry about:confused:. That makes me sound crazy, I know!

When I was a kid we went to coca beach. My dad liked every vacation to have an educational aspect. He made my brother and I do research reports on Sting rays prior to the trip. We knew all about them and what to do if you got stung. When we arrived at the beach the lady at the hotel said they were seeing unusually high activity of sting rays. So we ran down to the water and saw them everywhere! Terrified my brother and I spent the entire day on our beach towels far away from the water. It was a traumatizing experience, to say the least! So, I saw no sharks, but enough sting rays for a lifetime!

Geez, too bad about the Edge. I think DD wouldn't care as long as there was a computer to play on, but I would hope if we were to go again that there would be someone to socialize with.

I'm with ya on the giant groups. I really do enjoy meeting DISers, but more on a one-on-one basis. I'm pretty anti-social at large gatherings unless I'm in the mood to "play the role" as I like to say of being social, I can fake it pretty well on occasion. :lmao: Even our little Facebook meet on our cruise, which i think totaled about 20 people, left me not that into the idea of hanging with people.

Oh, and your balcony....just looking at the pictures makes me want to run screaming back onto the ship. I don't think I ever need to pay for a balcony. (And I'm not particularly concerned with sharks - I know that the fall would kill me.) :scared:

I would say that in total, our group with FB's and their spouses/family was around the 300 people mark. It was gigantic.

Oh, we did a private Mixology. I have that coming up in my report... it was
SO fun. Seriously one of the highlights of my week. I loved it. Hopefully you get one that goes beyond standard quo. (I have heard that normal mixology you don't actually go make the drinks yourself... rather the bartender makes it and you sample.. we got to go behind the bar and mix ourselves!)

Very large group settings are hard for me. It's just my Type A, introvert personality.... My middle DD suffers from this as well and I feel sad for her because I know how hard it is for me & how much I wish I was one of those people that could just bust into a group and be like "I'm here!"

But on the flip side, I will say the smaller one on one relationships I've made through FB groups/these boards have been wonderful. And I feel very blessed to have made new friends that way! The smaller girls only group helped with that, for me....

We saw those sting rays on our way out of the channel. The sharks were probably just right below. You know, they are related and all.........

Becca is pretty social. And I think she wanted more structured activities. So I guess that was probably the downfall. And like I said before, this cruise in particular had some very bad mannered tweens running amok on the cruise. Plus the Edge has no check in/out- kids can come and go as they please. And I'm still a wee bit protective about her having free reign over the ship. She's pretty naïve still...and thoughts of Natalie Halloway fill my brain. So I'm glad, in the end, she chose to stick closer to us!

I agree with 'play the role' thingy. I have to do that for work functions . And it's hard for me. On my vacation I just want to be little ole' normal me. Quiet, shy & all of it! :) One on one's are easier for me....

Ah yes, your fear of the water. I love my balcony. Swoon. :cloud9: Probably because I can enjoy the beauty of the ocean without being in it (with those sharks!)

Hi! Welcome! :welcome:

So cool you were on the same boat in 2012. I think your DIS name sounds familiar. Were you part of the FE exchange?

I didn't discover the DIS until right before our first cruise so no FE exchange for us. I do have a couple of TRs floating around here somewhere so you may have seen my name there or on the boards. :)

The Paradise is my favorite drink of the day. :drinking1 We tried the drink of the day everyday on our last cruise and they were all really good and a great value but the Paradise is my favorite. The Paradise could easily turn me into a lush. :rotfl2:

Great update!
That DIS meet was HUGE!!
So big I think we only ended up saying hello to a hand full of people - wish we had got to meet more of the group and spend some time
Your kids are adorable!

I am also not great at just throwing myself into a group situation. I like to hold hands and wade in with someone I know.

Ah my Tweedle, I will hold your hand and we can wade in together...or just skip off singing to ourselves! ;)

Those sharks were just out there mocking you, biding their time...

your shark obsession cracks me up! :rotfl2:

I seriously loved that Paradise drink. Had I know it would have been my favorite of the week I would have had a lot more that first day!!!

Yummo!!!

I have to say, my favorite part of cruise- group wise, was the mixology you arranged. I had so much fun at that! Plus the smaller group at that event allowed you talk and interact more (you know..and the alcohol helped!) Hahahaha!
