Here we go again!

Thank you for checking in on my Pre-Trip Report and welcome! So happy you could make it! I’m starting to lose track of how many of these I’ve done but my signature links suggest that this will be my fifth PTR so we’ll go with that. Even though this is my fifth edition I’m happy to report that our upcoming trip will still be filled with a lot of firsts. So at least I’ll have some things to talk about during this PTR especially about the little tidbit that we will be spending Halloween night in the Magic Kingdom!

Yes, we are headed to WDW for this year’s Halloween weekend!! DD’s school district each year has a four-day weekend for the first weekend of November and this year the calendar worked out where Halloween falls on the Friday of this break. When the calendar was released last January I knew I had to try to make a trip. It took a little bit of convincing DW but she eventually agreed.

Here are the details of our trip. We’ll be checking into the Contemporary Resort Garden Wing on the evening of October 29th and checking out on the morning of November 2nd. We’ll be attending two MNSSHPs on the 30th and Halloween! I sold this trip to DW as a Halloween trip so our plans will mostly revolve around it and we won’t be visiting DHS or Epcot during this short visit. That’s okay though because there’s another short weekend trip coming up next May that will be all about DHS. I heard that there’s this little get together that time of the year at DHS involving people dressed up in robes and wielding some form of laser swords ;)

Where are my manners? I didn’t introduce the cast yet, have I? For those of you checking in for the first time, Hi, my name is Dave. I’m 40. I’m still getting used to the sound of that. If it wasn’t obvious yet I’m the Disney fanatic in the family and my mid-life crisis has only amplified my affinity for visiting WDW and planning the next visit. I’m also really into photography but we’ll talk about that a little later. Then there’s DW who I think is slowly converting into a Disney fan. Either that or she’s just resigned now to the fact that her husband will always be planning a Disney trip and took up on Vader’s advice: “It is pointless to resist” DD7 and DS4 rounds out our little family. DD tends to be the cautious type when it comes to rides at Disney. She tried ToT for the first time last trip and decided that there will be no return trip to the fifth dimension. She’s also starting take a lot more interest in my Disney planning. DS wishes he were as tall as DD because he actually does want to try some of the thrill rides. He just crossed the 40-inch mark for our last trip in January so he got a taste of some of our favs including BTMRR and Soarin.

So, what can you expect from this PTR? There will be the usual presentations of our day-to-day itinerary and hour to hour touring plans. That’s half the fun, right? I’m also going to try something similar to my PTR for my solo conference trip last October where I put together a list of scenes and things I wanted to photograph – I called it my photo safari list and you’ll hear me ask for your suggestions and ideas from time to time. Also, I’ve learned that one of the fun aspects of doing a PTR over the summer months is posting mini trip reports of our family’s adventures and outings. This summer we have a lot planned that includes a Hawaii-So. Cal vacation with a sprinkle of Disney when we visit Disney California Adventure and Carsland for a day!

I’m excited to be sharing my Disney obsession with all of you for the next few months! If you want more, you can check out my flickr page devoted to Disney pictures, my online photo gallery devoted to my non-Disney pictures, or one of my completed trip reports from past years! All of those links are on my signature right below. Here are a few of my photos from my solo/conference trip last October, the trip report of which you can also find in my signature!

Hi Dave, I am with you as you plan. Eventually I might start my pretrippie for January. Not sure about that much energy to write. I'd rather read and look at the pictures!!:rotfl2:

I can't wait to attend a Halloween season at DWD! My husband is a marching band director, though, so the chances of that happening are slim to none. :worried: Oh well, I love to read about them here on the Dis! :goodvibes

Following along! We're in WDW at the same time (Oct 25-Nov 8). Totally envious of your fabulous Disney photos and makes me wish I took more time to slow down and practice shooting such wonderful scenes. Alas, there's little stopping with 3 teenagers. So I'll have to just smile at yours and bide my time until I can really practice my Disney photography.

Oh my goodness, your photos are stunning! I am certainly joining up so that I can ogle more Disney artistry!

Thanks for following once again! :thumbsup2

Thank you for joining! Hopefully you'll eventually be able to make it to Disney during Halloween season.

A fellow October traveler! Where will you be staying?

I noticed a huge drop-off in the number of photos I took during our family trip in January compared to my solo trip last October. Not too surprising though since I had my hands full with the kids. :lmao: Thanks for following!

Thank you so much for the kind words and joining! :goodvibes

Welcome back, Wendy! :goodvibes

I'm in. Should be a fun Halloween for you!

Thanks for following once again Andy! Really looking forward to the Halloween season in Disney!

Let's talk about what we're most looking forward to experience during this trip. Here's the list in no particular order.

1. Everything about Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

As I mentioned in the introduction, I got to attend one of the parties last October and absolutely loved it. So much so that I really wanted the kids to experience it as well. When I was convincing DW about this trip, I told her that we didn't have to go all of the parks and that I would be happy if we planned the trip around attending two MNSSHPs. This will give us enough time to watch the parade, Hallowishes, visit the dance parties, go trick-or-treating, and squeeze in some character meet and greets. And can't forget paying a visit to the Haunted Mansion!

2. Festival of Fantasy

Ever since this new parade debuted at MK, I have been counting the days until we get to see the pageantry with our own eyes. The floats. The colors. The costumes. Oh, and the fire-breathing dragon! And I can't wait to point my camera at all of the details!

3. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

It feels like we've all been waiting for this ride to open for 10 years, doesn't it? :rotfl: Both of our kids are beginning to get the taste of faster rides and I think they will have a blast on this one. Hopefully we'll get the back row of the train as I've heard that it feels a lot faster back there. I'll definitely be going for a FP+s.

4. Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet

So back in January when we were at Disney, DD asked about meeting Anna and Elsa. She and I had a long conversation about the wait times for meeting the Frozen characters. I told her that we could try to wait in line but that would take away time from our other favorite things to do at Epcot especially since we were only spending a half day at the park. When she realized that it might eat into our time at Innoventions (=The Great Piggy Bank Adventure), she decided that maybe we should wait until next trip. That was a moment when I appreciated how much she has grown up. This type of reasoning would not have been possible a year or two ago. ;) Well, as you can imagine, Anna and Elsa will be priority #1 on the FP+ list.

5. Festival of the Lion King

Oh I how I missed this show in January when it was in hiatus. I can't wait to see the new theater and our favorite stage show again. Based on the youtube videos of the new location, it looks like the show got a major upgrade in lighting and sound. Very excited!! And of course, I'm very much looking forward to photographing all of it!

6. Becoming Annual Passholders

It's finally happening. You see, this October trip kicks off a year of Disney for our family as we will be doing a 4-day weekend trip next May for Star Wars Weekend followed by a big family reunion trip with my in-laws in June. When I did the math for the park tickets, the APs turned out to be cheaper! When I upgrade, I'll also purchase a Tables in Wonderland card to get the 20% discounts at the table service restaurants. Considering there will be 10 of us next June, we'll easily make up for the cost of TiW at one character buffet meal!

Next Up: Day-to-Day Itinerary

Great update. I love the pictures. I would like to go to MNSSHP but am going in January. If only I could find a conference at WDW in September or October. Oh well. I can dream.

I'm in! So many great things on your list already. I am pretty confident you are going to LOVE FoF! It's a photographer's dream, really. DH took SO MANY PICTURES when we saw it in May, and he was so annoyed that we didn't have a better viewing spot.

Like I said, I will be totally green with envy over your two MNSSHPs. I miss that party so much! It was one of the most fun things I have ever done in Disney, maybe THE most fun. I can't wait until we get to go to another one, but until then I can at least live vicariously through you.

There are so many new things to look forward to! High on my list also are Festival of Fantasy and the mine train coaster. Yayyyy for becoming annual pass holders!
Is the fire breathing dragon in Festival of Fantasy on your photo safari list yet? Just a suggestion. ;)

This will be the second trip where our dates overlap -- I can tell we're booking trips based off the same school schedule! We're arriving on November 1st, and are bummed to be missing MNSSHP. But we're making up for it by staying until the 9th and catching the first Christmas Party. We'll be looking for you at the Contemporary (staying in the tower and Bay Lake Tower) and Magic Kingdom durign those overlap days, to see if we can't photobomb our way into this trip report. :yay:

I like your idea of focusing on just a couple parks for the two shorter trips. I would be tempted to hop everywhere and end up exhausted. :lmao:

That is a great list of new or special things to look forward to on this trip!! I will be doing most of those in November! Cant wait to see your pictures!

Excited to hear about Hawaii and Cars Land. :goodvibes

Don't give up on the conference! I thought I would never find one in Orlando and last year one just popped up! :thumbsup2

Oooo, I want to see those pictures!! Where was your viewing spot?

I'll try to take as many pictures as I can from MNSSHP! :thumbsup2

It is now! I just listed the fire breathing dragon to the list. Now I've got to think about how would like to angle and compose the shot....would be awesome if I could somehow get an angle with Prince Phillip in it. ;)

We probably are on the same school calendar - Fairfax County? ;)
I would love to see the Christmas Party one day. We'll be checking out of CR on November 2nd so yep, we should overlap. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to keep our footprint as compact as we can. Also the reason why we picked Contemporary Resort since we won't have to walk all that much before and after the parties.

I'm excited to hear about your Nov trip, but also just as excited to keep up with your Disneyland/Southern Cali trip this summer! Would you give us some of the details, please?

I'ver never been one to love parades and shows much myself. However, with our 2-year-old in tow, I find myself getting very excited for these things. Like you mentioned in your previous post, the Festival of Fantasy Parade and the FotLK show are two that are really standing out! We're still on the fence post about MNSSHP, but your photographs are helping me convince my husband! :thumbsup2

I'll definitely post a mini-trip report on our adventures in Oahu followed by Southern Cali. We're going to spend most of our California time in San Diego. However, since our flight from Oahu arrives at LAX we'll check in that arrival evening to Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel and spend the next full day at Disney California Adventure. We won't be visiting Disneyland Park but very excited to see Cars Land and World of Color. I made a brief visit to DLR in 2012 by myself during a conference in San Diego but for the rest of my family this will be their first visit. I have a trip report from my solo visit that's linked in my signature if you're interested.

I'm with you. We didn't do a whole lot of parades before the kids came along. They have so much fun watching them that now it's a must to see at least one parade during each visit. And I can't say enough good things about FotLK! :goodvibes

I loved MNSSHP and a lot of it had to do with being immersed in the Halloween atmosphere and Boo To You Parade and Hallowishes being the highlights. Last year as a solo traveler, I didn't do any character meet and greets and just went on one ride at the Haunted Mansion but I still had a great time. :thumbsup2
