Get Off The Ship - we are running out of towel animals! Update 10/25 Day 31

There is just something about room service that I love!!!
I ordered some on the Magic in March and Skip was wondering why I would do such a thing...and I told him because I can! And Claire had decided not to eat dinner with us that night, so I was making sure she had some food and we had some snacks too! ;)

I have a story in my trip report about German craftsmanship and the Dream and the Fantasy!

To be honest, I am not sure I will enjoy the larger ship that much. One of the things I love about cruising, is to feel connected to the sea. Even on the Wonder you are rather detached and I am afraid that on the larger ships it will be even more about the ship and less about the sea. That's why the Oasis of the Seas has no appeal for me. I guess I am very German in that feeling after I read about the inaugural cruise of the Mein Schiff 3 last week which was built for the German market and seems to have a lot of that "being out on sea" feeling in the ship as well.

I still need to catch up on your TR. I did peek and see some of your pics but it has been a very tiresome week.
You might have a point with being connected to the sea, as yes, the Fantasy and Dream are a lot about the ship. But still, give them a try - it's Disney in the end. :goodvibes

Another yum NUTELLA!! In our house we eat Nutella and bananas for a weekend breakfast treat. You guys are so nice to bring treats to the ship-bound folks.

Kate

Nutella seems to be something most of the European CMs miss. ;) And if we can put an extra little smile on someone's face with a jar of it, then we just HAVE to do it.
Nutella and bananas - hm, maybe I should give it a try tomorrow. :thumbsup2

I didn't see the big grocery store when we were there- just the big market with row after row of the same T-shirts, vanilla and silver.:rotfl:

It was to the right of the big mall where the ship docked. We walked for maybe 5 minutes and there was a huge grocery store.
And YES, there were a lot of little shops who ALL wanted you to go inside. :rotfl2:

It was so nice of you to go out of your way to find the nutella and chocolate for the CMs! I wonder why they can't bring the nutella on board, but they can have it if someone else does. :confused3

They cannot bring it on board because Nutella is considered "dairy" by Disney (I think it says milk powder on the label) and they only have a small cooler. :rotfl2: As if you should put Nutella into the fridge. :rotfl:
Ophelie even told us that they cannot even bring a chocolate bar on board. She bought one at port and had to leave the ship to eat it, or dump it. :scared1:

Now that we know how room service works on the ship we will make it a point to order some on every cruise. :thumbsup2

Day 15, August 21

Mosquitos, ruins and an Italian dinner - Part 5

Leaving behind a very happy Raj we then set out to deliver our gifts.
When we were done we walked around the ship for a bit before heading back to our stateroom where we watched TV for a while before it was time to get ready for dinner.
Today’s dinner was at Palo and it was on Mickey. We went up a little early and were asked to take a seat in Meridian. It just took a minute or two before we were asked to join a host, who took us to our table. We were seated at a nice table a little further back

and Ophelie was our server again.
When she came over she greeted us with big hugs and asked us about our day before taking our order for drinks, which was just water. And after she had filled our glasses she got the appetizer cart and generously filled a plate with

Parma ham, Bresaola, marinated artichokes, olives and red peppers, topped it all off with pieces of parmesan and drizzled it with Balsamic vinegar. She put the plate on the table and while we were taking photos of it she went to get us some of

Palo’s wonderful breads. And after finally placing our order Tom and I started to indulge in the yumminess of our antipasti. We were still working hard on our antipasti, when our starters arrived. I had ordered the

Mozzarella and Plum Tomatoes with Balsamic Dressing while Tom had chosen the

Tuna Carpaccio and Lemon Oil Dressing, thin slices of Tuna brushed with chef's special lemon olive oil and both were really good.
Once we had finished our starters and our plates had been taken away, we were served the

Palate Cleanser, a nice and light lime sorbet, topped with a blueberry. Now our palates were ready for the main course. Tom had ordered the

Grilled Tuna Piemonte a truffle-infused potato risotto with garlic marinated artichokes and a tarragon veal jus which was just as delicious as it looked when it was served. I wanted to try some pasta, so I ordered the

Chianti Braised Beef Ravioli 'en bordo' , tossed in a rich red wine reduction with oven-roasted carrots and celery. Pasta heaven!
We both sat there, enjoying the nice and quiet restaurant and digging into our food. And while we were doing so, the chef was walking through the restaurant and visiting every table. Needless to say that he only got compliments from our table. And while we were still finishing off our main course, Ophelie paid us another visit to ask if we wanted to order Palo’s most favourite dessert.
Indeed it was our choice and Ophelie went to the kitchen to order it for us. When she came back to clear away the dirty dishes, she had a little time to chat with us. Now was the perfect time to give her her surprise. Because we didn’t have any wrapping paper we had put the large jar of Nutella into a small Disneyland Paris plastic bag and had hidden it in my handbag. Now that Ophelie had a few minutes we put the bag on the table and told her that if she could “feel” what was inside, it would be hers.
At first she didn’t really know what was happening, but then she started to “feel” the bag and as soon as she realized what it was and had whispered the magic word to us, as started to hug both of us. With a blink she told us that she had to go to the backroom to “do some sorting” and it would take her a minute or two.
We all knew what she was up to when she picked up a small spoon and disappeared at the back of the restaurant. When she returned she told us that she had had a few spoonfuls of her “guilty pleasure” before hiding it. She was going to share it with her room mate, who was French as well and missing her Nutella too, but she did not want it to disappear. Then SHE had to disappear, she had to pick up our dessert, the famous

Palo Chocolate Souffle, served with vanilla bean ice-cream and Chocolate and Vanilla sauces. She asked if she should pour in the sauces, but we wanted to take photos first, so she just smiled and told us to enjoy our chocolaty treat. Once we had finished dessert, we asked Ophelie for the bill and with it she brought Palo’s farewell drink –

Prosecco topped with lime sorbet. Oh so yummy. We left her a nice tip and told her that we would be back and looking forward to have her as a server for brunch the next day.
We said our goodbyes for the day and wobbled back to our stateroom,

to rest a bit and to get ready for the pirate party and fireworks on deck 12. Well, we were tired, real tired and really full and after some chilling on the veranda

we decided to skip the party and the top deck fireworks viewing and just stick it out on the veranda. So when the fireworks were about to set off we sat out on our veranda

and watched from there. And even though we had a bit of an obstructed view,

it was much more relaxing to sit there with a drink in hand

instead of being squeezed into the crowds on the top deck. Once the fireworks were over we finished our drinks and then went back inside and got ready for bed. It had been a long, but fun day.

To be continued ............

That Palo meal looks amazing! That tuna - Yum! :thumbsup2

What a sweet gesture bring the Nutella as a gift. :thumbsup2

I can totally see why you chose watching the fireworks from your wonderful verandah. Smart move!

One of these days I am going to watch the fireworks from the Verandah...I just haven't been able to pull my self away from the party just yet.

spoiler....My next cruise won't have fireworks...or characters. ;) :scared1:

Dinner looks great once again. There just isn't an update without food in it with you is there. :rotfl2: I always drool after reading your updates...I know better too!

OOH! Tequila tour sounds up my alley.
The beach area looked pretty.
I want a Mickey ice Cream Bar.
That is so nice you got her the Nutella and it made her so happy. I wonder why they cannot bring it on board.
Looked like a great dinner.
Seemed like a nice spot to watch the fireworks. I am caught up again.

Your pasta looks delicious, but that TUNA! Need that. I showed that to DH and he said it looked amazing!

Aw that is so cute that she had to have some of her 'guilty pleasure' immediately :rotfl: That's awesome that you guys made her (and her roommates) day!

Hey, now that's the way I would want to view the fireworks too. Right from the verandah.:thumbsup2

We enjoyed having Ophelie as our server for Palo brunch and being able to deliver your gift to her. :)

Mary Ellen, you are so going to enjoy a meal at Palo on your cruise. The food is really good! :thumbsup2

So fun to surprise her! :goodvibes

It was the best idea ever to watch from there. A drink, comfy seats, no crowds and awesome fireworks. What else can you ask for? ;)

One of these days I am going to watch the fireworks from the Verandah...I just haven't been able to pull my self away from the party just yet.

Jen, it is VERY relaxing and now shoving and people trying to get in front of you. ;) I am not a huge fan of the party on the new ships - I loved the one on the Wonder and am hoping they are still doing them on the Magic. :thumbsup2

spoiler....My next cruise won't have fireworks...or characters. ;) :scared1:

Are you going to let me hang here? Inquisitive minds NEED to know! ;)

An update without food? Then it can't be from me. :rotfl2:

The Tequila tour was really interesting and the tasting was really fun!
Well, Disney considers Nutella to be dairy and since they do not have a fridge (yikes, have you ever accidentially put a jar of it in the fridge? :scared1:) they cannot bring it on board. Yip, it contains some milk powder, but it will NOT go bad unrefridgerated.
It was a great place to watch the fireworks. And very relaxing too. :thumbsup2

Your pasta looks delicious, but that TUNA! Need that. I showed that to DH and he said it looked amazing!

Tom was VERY pleased with it and we always try each others food and it was outstanding. So yummy. :thumbsup2

Seeing that huge smile on her face was just the best reward ever. :thumbsup2

Hey, now that's the way I would want to view the fireworks too. Right from the verandah.:thumbsup2

It was a great spot for the fireworks. We had chosen it right obviously, as I am not too sure you can see them from the other side of the ship. ;)

We enjoyed having Ophelie as our server for Palo brunch and being able to deliver your gift to her. :)

Thanks for being our messenger. I hope she enjoyed the Nutella overload. :rotfl2:

Sounds like a lovely dinner at Palo!! It's funny that in your starter you can only see the tomato, no mozzarella. I guess it was hidden inside?

How nice of you to make your server so happy with the Nutella!

Great Updates !! All the food looked wonderful as always, Nutella seems to be very popular with the Cruise staff!!!

Dinner looks like it was quite good!

I think you chose perfectly how to end your evening. How relaxing to just sit on your own veranda and watch the fireworks. PERFECT!

That meal at Palo looks so scrumptious. I wish that my next visit to Palo was coming up sooner! That chocolate souffle is my favorite!

I would much rather enjoy the fireworks in private on the verandah than fight the crowds at the party. Great way to end the evening.

Hi Karin i have not been on the Dis for a few months, life has been a little too crazy . I am so happy that i was able to catch up on your trip report. I so wish you were coming to Florida this summer.......Send our love to Tom!!!!

I just posted this on my PTR (with more detail). Just in case you do not frequent it, here is the news put in a nutshell!

Okay ........... here we go again. Another week with no DIS time (ups, forgot to mention that my weekend has officially begun. :rotfl2: Tomorrow is a holiday and Friday is a window day - so NO school!! :cool1:).

But I do have an excuse other than school. ;)

WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYLAND PARIS!

NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE INVITED TO THE PREVIEW OF THE NEW RATATOUILLE RIDE AT DLP!

Have a great trip to Paris! It seems like the first comments about the ride from CMs are absolutely positive! I just hope that crowds are not too bad!!

We got an invite to the preview as well, but were not able to get a trip to Paris organised on short notice. Would have been able to say hi to you then! :goodvibes

And just be warned - I might skip over any posts you do about it and not comment on them. I am very particular about not wanting to see to many pictures of new theme park things or read about it in detail. :goodvibes

Have a fantastic time Karin!
I'm hoping to get to DLP in December to check the new ride out for myself and see the Christmas decorations :-)
