2014 Grand Floridian Resort & Villas FAQ: Vacationing in Grand Style!

Our first 2 nights are booked in SL. I'm wondering about views, I asked for marina view, just to have a different view because the next 12 days we will move to a regular outer building and requested pool view in Boca.

But what I'm wondering is if the courtyard /garden views in SL can see Wishes?

No you can't see Wishes from the courtyard side, but can from some of the marina side rooms. I don't remember the room numbers, but they are the rooms to the right when you go in the lobby. You can't see them from the rooms to the left. Hope that's not too confusing, it makes sense if you look at the building from the water. You can't see the castle, but have a good view of Wishes.

Thanks! I'll add that to my request!!

Any construction or refurbs planned this fall for the GF? We are going in November. I hate being surprised by the noise and clutter of construction. I know that some people aren't bothered by it, but we are and I would stay elsewhere if necessary.

Thank you!

Does anyone know if there are any king bed rooms in the lagoon view category? I realize it would only be a request. Also, do the courtyard pool and hot tub stay open 24 hours or does it close at a certain time?

I can't help with the king bed question, but hopefully someone else will be able to answer that for you :flower3:.

As far as the pool, it looks like the courtyard pool is open 24/7. I couldn't find hours on the first page of this thread (not saying they're not listed as I could have missed it), but here is a link from All Ears with pool information. Scroll down about 3/4 of the page:

AFAIK, there isn't any more construction scheduled at the GF. The room refurbs are scheduled to finish up by the end of July/August as SL was to begin June 1st and RPC is scheduled to start June 29th :).

Thanks, Mickeynut1. You are very helpful.

That is a relief! I am getting a bit paranoid about renovations at hotels after a couple of nasty experiences.

One less thing to worry about!

You're welcome :goodvibes.

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with construction in the past, but your GF stay should be construction free :thumbsup2.

Hi all.

Are water shoes permitted IN the pool?

That's a good question :confused3. I don't see why not, but that's just my opinion as I can't answer for sure. Hopefully someone else will be able to give a definite anwer ;).

When my kids were younger, they did wear water shoes in the pool. That was about 7-8 years ago.

Does anyone know if rooms have new mattresses?

Hello, Grand friends! Sorry I've been out of touch for so long, it has been a busy spring in my house. I'll try to get back into posting mode!;)

Has anyone purchased any of the old GF decor? I meant to look for something - lamp, etc. - but forgot.:scratchin

Hope everyone is having a good time with their planning and/or trips! I'm so behind. BlueSkies, if you are still in the World, I hope you are having a very magical vacation!pixiedust:

Welcome back....you have been missed around here :flower3:. I know how it is sometimes when things get so busy you don't have much time for anything, let along computer time. I hope things are settling down and you have more down time for yourself :goodvibes.

Thanks for your help re: water shoes, everyone :)

You're welcome :) (although I wasn't too much help as I couldn't give a definitive answer....LOL).

I haven't seen this asked before so here it goes.

My mom has only been onsite at Disney once at CSR in 2010.

I asked her if she wanted to go on a trip with me and she said yes. I think GF is the best option for her tastes. I also want to do CL.

Here's the question. If you or a member in your party smokes is it easier/more convenient at SL or RPC?

We will probably do November or early December to see Christmas lights so weather should be decent. We live up north so it will be warm to us.

Thanks!

Good to see you back K&A&C's mom:flower3:

Dd and I had a great time at poly and spent a lot of time at gf. That girl loves to shop in Summer Lace. Have to say the lounge chairs with cushions at GF are better than Cr and Poly!

So happy to hear your trip was wonderful!! Your comment regarding Christmas lights reminded me to ask how long the GF Christmas decorations remain each year. It would be interesting to see the GF decorations if they are still around when we arrive on January 5 (or maybe earlier, but for now, it's January 5!)

Last year our trip was 1/1-1-8. Lights and gingerbread house came down before we left GF on 1/5. Lights were down at CR when we arrived there on 1/5.

For parks I think they were up until that Sunday 1/5.

The Osborne lights were up I believe until the 5th too. We saw them on the 4th.

This year sunday falls on 1/4 so unfortunately you will probably miss them:sad1:

Hello! Anyone staying SL soon, or just back, be sure to let us in on what you know regarding possible lounge expansion while they are refurbishing SL this month! It's already the 9th, I wonder what they are working on ???

I didn't get too much info but that there will just be one desk with a CM, and one of the CMs will stand at a podium near the entryway to the lounge. And I believe the kids' area is to be moved into the "large" (I use the term loosely as compared to the RPC lounge...:) ) room. :sad2: I don't see how this is gonna work!

My family and I are excited about our first visit to the GF this November. Our family of 5 has requested a lagoon room view - it was all that was left for FD promotion! Would you recommend a specific building or floor? We'd love to be able to see the fireworks from our room like we could at the Poly! Thanks for any insight!

We've stayed several times in a lagoon view room and love conch key building ... It's near the boat dock and a view of the lagoon and magic kingdom castle (( love )) with our family of 5 we once got a corner room with 2 balconies. One balcony faced the marina and the other the lagoon and MK. I say just choose conch key building on your requests because I think you'll have a better chance of both the lagoon view and MK view over other buildings : )

:yay: glad to see you back! You were such a help last year with our first stay at GF! Loved it so much, returning this Aug for 14 nights :goodvibes. Was orig booked at Poly, but construction was getting a bit much, so switched to GF. Can't wait to be back!
