Official Star Wars Weekends 2014 Tips and Tricks -The Adventure Continues

I'm surprising my son with this on June 8th. Can I ask, did you have to wait in line to get into Darth Mall? Any suggestions or tips? How long did the process take?

Thanks!!

We had to wait on both Friday and Sunday to get in. Friday was around 7pm, but the line wasn't that long. Sunday was around 5pm and the line was zigzagged, but it started as soon as you got in the door of the first room. Took about 15 minutes to get in from there. Then there were separate lines for character, name tags, D-tech stuff, food, and merchandise.

I was there at park opening on Friday,so I didn't wait more than 5 minutes to get in. Others were saying if you have an appointment, they will allow you into Darth Mall without issues. The process took like 10-15 minutes including paying for my figure.

Anyone who got a D-Tech figure earlier this weekend, keep checking your inbox. I already got a notification that my figure shipped! Am SHOCKED by how quick they got it out!

I got an email Monday that mine had shipped as well! My husband and son have not gotten an email yet. I can't wait to see mine!!

We have FP+ for ToT from 8:15 to 9:15 on Sat., 6/14. I know we will probably be stuck on Sunset for the SoS FW, but we will try to get as close to Hollywood Blvd as possible. Did anybody experience the FW from Sunset and care to comment? If not, maybe someone can report back on that if you don't mind. Thanks so much. pixiedust:

Wanted to give you kids an update. NOT sure if this came out at all during any of the updates, but I was there Sunday evening for both the parade AND the fireworks. From what I can see from sifting, a few things most certainly changed from the Friday (perhaps Saturday) to Sunday. Let me try to clear a few things up.

FIRST - I would ABSOLUTELY do this again. I was one of the luckier ones - and didn't come through the information very often, but ended up in a pretty good spot.

SECOND - there is now a DEDICATED kids' viewing area. So, all kids are put into the the viewing area - probably in the range of the green word 'viewing' on the map. Toward the extreme right (facing the parade route), make-a-wish kids and families were there. KIDS WERE REQUIRED TO SIT for the parade. So all kids could still see. We were fortunate enough to be directly adjacent to the kids' section, and were able to see over all of the kids - quite cool to see a large area.

THIRD - Cast members gave us advice along the ropes, and told us to FOLLOW the stormtrooper patrol groups (the same guys from the opening in the morning). DO THIS. Move out toward the center of the parade - and get RIGHT behind the cast members. Where I was coming from, I moved a step early, and moved toward the center. Got behind a cast member who herded the volunteer kids forward. We were RIGHT at the front of the stage.

FOURTH - The parade is much better for kids. The fireworks were much better for adults. You are twenty-one. Take advantage. Tip. Make sure to look under the desserts. It's cool.

FIFTH - For the fireworks, don't position along the ropes. And be aware of the trees, too. There is a pretty sweet spot in there to see the fireworks. But herd together with other Star Wars nerds you can like. I was with an amazing group of people, including two from the UK 501 and a cast member.

I will try to post pictures later that highlight our successes.

Thank you for this! We are still on the fence, but since DS is the most excited about seeing the parade (and would have more fun watching with other kids), knowing he will be able to see is all that matters. I'm hoping to catch some shade and lots of free drinks and snacks and just watch on the screen!

For the fireworks - were all the kids still there? I'm sure our kids could handle one late night this vacation, just want to make sure that its an ok atmosphere for them, and they won't be the only kids there that people would be annoyed by!

Someone wanted a "visual" of the FTF Parade Viewing. This was my attempt at a stylized picture. As I see it the best area is the green area because some of the characters exit stage right before the stage. The "bad" area isn't really bad, but you may only see certain characters' backs as they leave the route. The corner itself may be good or bad, I didn't get a good look from that spot. You would have a great view of the stage, but some characters may already turn their attention away to start heading out.

We sat probably about the "V" in "Good FTF Parade Viewing" and I thought it was great, but did start to get some sun. It looked like the area further towards the stage from there was a little shadier.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you--that is very helpful!!!!

We have the FTF package booked for our trip next weekend. What is the cancellation policy? I could not find the info online. I can't recall if it's 24 or 48 hours prior to the reservation. I am still torn if I want it or not. I am worried I will be disappointed. Thanks!

No wait to get into Darth's Mall for DTech folks with ressies. A CM at the door has a clipboard with names and appointment times - we got in at 2:35 for 2:40 and 2:50 appointments. The process takes about 15-20 minutes max (we did three figures in that time - one would be shorter) depending upon how easily they can get your hair smoothed back in their little headbands, how quickly they can get you set up for your three photo shots, how quickly you choose the one you like, etc. We didn't feel rushed at all and the CMs working the area were pleasant and fun and really took great care to make sure we liked the photo and that they set it up ok (checked repeatedly with a supervisor). Paying took another few minutes and then you can shop the mall. We did wait in a short line to view the SWW collectibles table and then pay for our purchases there. Hope this helps!

I am still looking to get a Jedi Mickey H&V character meal for 5/24. Will this show on line or is it only available by calling? Thanks!

I wonder about next year too. Celebration Anaheim and SWW will be really close together if dates are kept the same.

Hmmmm yeah wonder who will get precedence on celebrities next year, Celebration of SWW? Maybe they will be doing whirl wind touring to promote the movies, who knows.

Here is a picture of the taped off area for kids. See the AWESOME Tusken Raider costume inside of the taped area, and the view of the parade behind.

And finally, another view of the parade and the sitting kids.

Awesome!!!!! :thumbsup2 Would my 12 year old count as a "kid" to sit in the taped area? Or are they limiting it to small children?

Thanks everyone for all of the info! I'm going to go to my first SWW. Question - On Saturday 5/24 I have reservations at H&V at 8:25 for breakfast. Do you think it would be possible for me to get a autograph fast pass still?

Thanks!

Sure!

We had an 8:40 reservation for Sci-Fi - and got an autograph from Chewie before. Most of the FP autographs were handed out by 7 am. Now - to get those, I would get to the park EARLY. Before 6 or so, depending.

After you do your DTech, do you have to leave or are you free to shop in the mall?

We were going to try to hit the mall on Friday, and our DTech appointment is for Saturday. But if I can get into the mall with no wait on Saturday because of DTech I'll wait until then.

BASTOS: question about your pictures. I see an area with a looks to be a blue barrier with yellow starts on it, and IF I am remembering last year correctly that looks to be where the wheel chair area was, is that what they are now doing for wheel chair rope off? OR is this the side wall to the FTF area?

Twelve is that gray area. Did you pay the FULL price? If so - I would say no. But I also saw a family divided. One child was in the taped area, and the other (with parents) was in the viewing area. I would probably say no - unless your twelve year old is very small. I have a nine year old (not there with us) - but I would probably have thought that she was the largest sized kid in that area.
