Food Trucks Are Coming

Visted Disney World last week... I do live in Florida, so I visit often as I can.. Stopped at Marketplace Disney and there are two food trucks out front adjacent to the World Of Disney Entrance. They are clearing the area where Pollo Campero used to sit This will be where the food trucks new home will be. I think there will four trucks in alll, and maybe more in the future. Here are some pix of the broushure and work area. Looks like we will have some new eats to enjoy...

They have been advertising this for a while now. My only hope is that they will change up the food trucks every so often or bring in some outside food trucks. My guess is probably not but it would be nice.

Actually, the food trucks are going in the grassy area next to Bongos. They've been showing up in different locations at DTD for the past year or so. The construction wall of the grassy area has concept art for the future home of the Food Trucks.

I cannot wait. It will be nice. Especially to see food offerings that only normally show up during the food and wine festival.

The concept of having food trucks in DTD is intriguing but I fear that the end result will not be as positive. Normally food trucks are relatively slow for service, have only one service window and only operate for several hours at a time. If this is the case they will not do well here where there is a large demand for counter service foods. Combining that with the fact that each truck only has 3 menu items for many families are going to have to go to several trucks to satisfy everyone it could rapidly becoming logistics nightmare. They work well in urban settings where they usually operate for a several hours during lunchtime and then maybe again in the evening. Here where the demand is much more spread out it seems like fixed location restaurants are a better option. I'm sure Disney sees it as a cheap way out!

I was excited about this when I first heard of it, but now that I see the menu it really doesn't appeal to me. Except for the beef sliders and lobster roll. Even so, I don't think those two items alone would draw me back to DTD.

Food trucks are very popular right now, and not the lunch trucks you're thinking of. Many towns have food truck round ups or food truck nights. I've been to the ones in Celebration as well as in downtown Windermere. Generally five to ten food trucks show up and the food is restaurant quality. The DTD food trucks each represent one of the four WDW theme parks and the cuisine that can be found in each theme park. These are great options for a quick bite to eat and I'm glad they will finally have a permanent home rather than popping up in random areas of DTD.

I work in Wash, DC and they have a APP that let's you know what food truck will be at what location. It really helps finding your favorite truck. Hope they will have a APP that allows us to see what truck will be in the Springs on that given day. Also it would be nice if they rotated them to different parks. In DC food trucks are becoming a real big hit and the food is top notch.

They are Disney's own Food Trucks. There are four of them, each one representing each of the four WDW parks. They will all be parked in the area near Bongos once the construction of the Food Truck park is completed. Until then they pop up at different areas of DTD.

Licensed food trucks have to follow the same safety standards as restaurants (hand washing, proper food handling, temps, etc..) especially those run by Disney. Since they are "permanent" I assume Disney will be installing hook ups for these mobile kitchens. That being said, I'm careful about which ones I patronize in NYC. Those that are not licensed or have had several health infractions are hard to identify by just walking up to one.

You're really missing out, then. The food trucks in our city are serving gourmet quality food and have to adhere to the same regulations and inspections that a restaurant has to. These aren't hot dog stands or lunch trucks. I frequent the various food truck nights in my city.

I certainly agree with your sentiment, the food trucks here in Louisville are the same way and in reality the inspections or even stricter than that for B&M restaurants. I'm sure that Disney will also be very strict about sanitary conditions for their food trucks however I'm betting that like all the other restaurants in Disney these days the menu itself will be lackluster.

Call my slow but why food trucks? While there is a huge increase in the vogue factor of food trucks there are still a lot of people who think of them as the old roach coach.

Of course the reality is that these will be anything but that but reality is trumped by perception when it comes to sales.

It would seem to me that a fixed location would be much better.
