Time zone changes

Sorry, I've got some last minute questions..... How does Disney handle the different time zone changes on port days? I'm assuming the cruise stays on EST but Cozumel runs on CST? How does that work especially with regard to the all aboard time back on the ship? CC is EST, the same as Miami.

Ship time changes to match port time. The navigator you get the night before tells you to change your clock if it's necessary.

You will get a card in your room telling you when to change your time with the navigator at night. We adjusted time zones on 9 of our DCL cruises. DCL changes to island time, which makes things much easier.

Every cruise we've done (not just DCL) has changed time when crossing into a new time zone. So far.

DCL tries to keep port time as much as possible. I was on one cruise over the switch over to daylight savings time and we didn't change our clock for Cozumel because we were basically changing our clocks every other night. Just watch your navigator and listen for your CD announcements.

Thank you all so much. Puts my mind at ease. My phone will automatically change to the current time zone. I had visions of the Wonder sticking with EST in Cozumel while its on CST.

Well actually if your phone is auto updating you'll be in for another surprise, since phones rely on the network to auto update a time, but if you have network service you could also be racking up data charges.... When you are in airplane mode the time zone won't automatically change so you will need to change the timezone manually....

But yes they will let you know when to change your clocks, I do wish the hosts would change the clocks in the morning to the right time if you forget...

I guess noting and reminding myself that Cozumel will be an hour earlier than what my phone says is all I can do. Best lay off the AI drinks at Nachi Cocom.

It shouldn't.

If you have a watch, that might be best. Set it to the time the ship tells you to be on. No worries about anything electronic changing or not changing on its own. And take the page of the Navigator off with you; the page that tells you what time you're on and what time you need to be back onboard.

Cozumel has a Starbucks? Thanks for the tip. We just got back from a week in Zihuatanejo and they've got nothing like that.

One cruise we didn't change the room clock, back when the Magic had the special propeller clocks. We just knew to add/deduct an hour. We got back to the room after being off the ship the second afternoon and had a little more time than I thought we did. We happened to look at something else with the time and realized that the host must have changed the time when he cleaned the room. OOPS!!! Thankfully we realized that before we were late for dinner. We had to change the time again that night.

That's funny! Glad you made it to dinner. Does Disney have cruises with ports with multiple time changes? Just the one is enough for me. I really don't want to get stuck in Cozumel. I love Mexico but that wouldn't be good.

I haven't worn a watch in almost 20 years. You might be surprised how many clocks are out there.

However, I bought an inexpensive wristwatch that I use on cruises, and wear it suspended from my lanyard as it felt strange (uncomfortable?) on my wrist.

That's a great idea. I find watches cumbersome, I'm not a big jewelry person aside from my wedding ring and earrings. I could also have DS maybe wear one but he likes them less than I do. I just don't want to bothered with checking it all day. Silly I know. But you're right, clocks are all over. I am also thinking I could alert our server at Nachi to let us know when it's x time. Lazy beach days seem to fly by and that's exactly what we're planning on.

Only concern would be that now you are on cst, but as soon as you leave Cozumel your phone wouldn't update again until getting back to PC or another port with wifi... We just changed our time zones manually on our iPhones and since we wee using the navigator apps it helped keep everything on time, otherwise the app would show events against the wrong times

Remember that most of the U.S. is now in Daylight Savings Time, which is noted with a "D," not an "S." So the ship will leave Miami at, say, 4 p.m. EDT (not EST); EST and EDT are an hour apart. If other countries you visit haven't changed on the same schedule as the U.S., the time change could be different than you expect.

The 7-nights usually only have 1 or 2. The repo cruises have more.

The best thing to do is to always look at the navigator and any notes that get left in your stateroom. Sometimes they will tell you to observes ships time and will mention that it is different than local time.
