Petition: 'Make Plus-Size Princesses In Disney Movies!'

What I don't understand is why everyone automatically assumes that plus size women are morbidly obese?? I know plenty of women that are wearing plus sizes that have a healthy weight.

Disney can't have a fat princess . Most Disney princess movies starts out with the hero having a problem that has to be overcome.

A fat Disney princess problem would deal with the isolation and snickering of others at school or work.

What would the people causing the pain look like? Disney princesses.

Seriously, put Aurora and Jasmine in modern clothes and they are the villains to the fat girl story.

Plus, how does the fat girl win? Can she realistically get the good looking guy? No! She only wins by losing the weight. That only reinforces the problem to a young fat girl.

Here are a few things I would like to see.

A fat girl can be smart, and she can regain her self confidence. She can learn to wear clothes and makeup that complements her, and she can learn to carry her head high. She can learn to do better with her eating and that it's ok to not look like Aurora. She can also learn that even though she may not get Prince Philip, there is an adorable teddy bear of a guy out there that will treat her well and not like a possession. She will learn to not rely on her looks but by the strong will she has developed. She can start her own business or earn her degree or both and she can and will make it...and live happily ever after.

DreamWorks made your movie already, it's called Shrek. It was wildly successful, won an Oscar and had 3 sequels.

I think it's interesting that the "fat girl" could never land the slim, good-looking guy, yet movies and TV shows are full of balding, middle-aged men married to young, hot women. It seems like quite the double standard.

Money is the great equalizer in that equation.

From an evolutionary perspective (which you can believe even if you don't believe we evolved from monkeys), women are often attracted to men they think can provide for them and give them security. Men are attracted to, well, young, hot women!

We didn't evolve from monkeys... At least not as we know them today. We share a common ancestor with today's monkeys. ;)

I fully agree with your point about how men and women have evolved to desire different qualities in their mates, but I can't help but think having male writers for a show/movie has something to do with it as well. Not every middle-aged balding character with a hot wife is super-wealthy. Sometimes they're just your middle class cop, etc. Yet somehow they managed to land themselves a hot young thang (or a middle-aged woman who looks damn good for her age).

What do you mean movie and TV shows? Just check the local country club! What's wrong with those movies and TV shows are that those guys aren't rich.

Oops, Texas Crude beat me to it, never mind.

I figured out awhile ago that not only do I not want to be a Barbie...I don't really want Ken either.

I just wish society were a little more considerate of people who don't live up to the Ken and Barbie standard of physical appearance. There are other criteria to consider.

This has got to be the dumbest conversation on dis boards....

Which is why you felt compelled to post in it. :lmao:

Is this thread seriously still going!?!

No. No it isn't. Why?

:happytv:

Actually it is an interesting discussion.

It might not be a "big deal" in the long run. There are many things from which young people get their view of the world and animated characters are probably not as high on the list as some think.

BTW: I have noticed in YouTube videos and pictures that the princesses in the park are not Barbie and are sometimes rather on the plus side. Merida is often not skinny and neither has the Elsa's I have seen.

Actually, from an evolutionary perspective, men are attracted to women who can bare children. A real woman the size of a Disney princess would not be able to bear children.

It has everything to do with western culture valuing unhealthy UNDER weight women over healthy-weight women.

What a stretch!! Never heard a man say that!!! Where did you get that one? Not from any men in this, or the last generation.

I think it's more likely that since men aren't a limiting factor in the reproductive process we are just wired to be attracted to anything with a pulse. :love1:

Actually I read an article a few months ago about a study that showed that men find women attractive with curves, regardless of size. Plus sized women that are curvy - like most of the plus size models you see, men find attractive. There have been other studies that have suggested that hips imply birthing ability. However, instinct can be overridden by culture to some degree.

My wife isn't skinny, she's plus sized and she's got curves. She is extremely attractive to me. :) I never understood what men saw in pencils, anyway. (No offense to any pencils out there.) ;)

Also, Kate Upton is not plus sized, but she isn't skinny, either, and she is considered probably the hottest model currently.

I do agree with the one poster that there is one very specific thing that attracts men...

Women.
:bride::love::hug:

I told my daughter when she was young not to worry about trying to be pretty. God had made her pretty. If all women wore large burlap bags and purple makeup, men would like women... in large burlap bags with purple makeup.

We need to teach our children that being healthy is important, but whatever healthy size you are, be confident. There is somebody out there for you. Change yourself, if necessary, but don't put up with anybody, ANYBODY, that wants to change you.
