Hi there. Have booked to visit leaving gatwick 14/5 and will be there for memorial day. I had no idea what this was or when it occured until researching crowd levels and saw it is supposed to have a big impact on crowds. Is this likely and if so how much? Plus will it be busy for that day then ease off?
Thanks

Memorial Day will make the weekend very crowded. As the week goes on, crowds will slowly normalize again.

We always forget about memorial day (in fact one year we ended up at Pearl Harbour for it!) We were at WDW this last memorial weekend, we arrived the Wednesday before (stayed for 28 days) and found the crowds picked up on the friday (which was the 24 hour party) and got steadily bigger throughout the trip. We did Busch gardens on the Sunday and blizzard beach/pirates and pals cruise on the Monday to avoid the largest of the crowds.

We have went several times the week of Memorial Day - mostly because our kids have just gotten out of school for the year. It is most crowded on Sunday and Monday and should start to thin over the week. Make sure and stay away from MK on Monday /Memorial Day. I have found Epcot to be the best on that day .

Hello! We spent the week of Memorial Day vacationing in WDW... This was our 1st visit ever. We spent Memorial Day @ MK. We had the best day ever!!!!!! We did make RD. I also did some planning. My boys r not princess fans so we went straight for the mountain rides! We did a big portion of what we wanted by 11:30ish AM w/ the longest wait being about 20 min. Did not notice crazy crowds. We managed dole whips and found a bench. I made an ADR @ floridian cafe at 1:00 which we loved. We even relaxed outside the resort for a bit. Around 3ish we headed back to MK & this is when I noticed the crowds. But, we had already done our major stuff. We hit up many other rides, used some FPs, walked on things like Small World and Pirates. Wishes was BUSY & we did not stake out a spot early, so we were kind of wandering till we found a spot. Crowds were crazy after wishes so we grabbed hot dogs at Casey's and relaxed for awhile. We hung out for about an hour and headed to the bus. We waited about 15 for one to POR. *** the weather was fantastic and u would go back at this time again if I could. Hope I did not ramble on too much!!!! :)

We went this Memorial day and while it was busy we had a blast. We were at AK for RD, went to the safari ride, dinosaur, EE. Then we went to DHS, we rode TOT, Great Movie ride, had a nice lunch at 50's PT (no adr, waited less than 5 minutes for a table for 5 people) and rode RNRC and some other things. We would have continued to MK but my MIL was with us and we had to get back for my FIL. (it was a day trip, we have APs.) We left about 9pm or so.

Just have to ask for those who have been in previous years or have an idea about crowds for this year:
We might be switching our trip over to May 22-28th, and since there is Memorial Day, Mardi Gras and SWW going on, the week is a "red" week, and the crowd levels are all 9's.

I'd obviously be sticking with the recommended parks all week (even though there are days where there is no green park  ) minus being at MK for the 24hr event.

With sticking to the recommended parks, utilizing rope drop and fp+ do you think it would be a good trip for a person who is going for their first time?

We were originally going May 4-10th (where crowds are posted at 5's) but because of the 24 hr event, talked about switching, and in the process of talking about it the first timer apparently made plans to go on a road trip during the week of May 4th.

Will it be horrible and crowded the 22-28th if we do go?

I didnt think they were having the 24 hour event at MK this year or at least not on the same dates ?????

I totally blanked on it being Memorial day weekend when we booked our trip. I'm far too into things to stop now :)

Everything I've read has told me to expect huge crowds. It's a relief to see some people posting about getting at places for rope drop and things being fine but busy.

We will be there during Memorial Day weekend this year, we actually arrive on that Friday. We are going to be going to DHS on Memorial Day (Monday) and even though I know it will be crowded, I know we will still be able to do the things that we want to do, barring that we can get the FP+ at decent return times and also we will be there right at RD :goodvibes. I'm nervous about how crowded it will be (we are normally are slow season folks), but I think we will be ready to face them head on. We have been to Disney enough times that if we have to head back to the resort and either swim or do some non park things, everyone will be fine with it....of course we will head back later in the evening to enjoy the park and have dinner. I am so glad to hear that some of you that went before had a blast doing it, even though it is a busy time of year, you guys are giving me hope for our trip :goodvibes.

I think crowds will be a tad lower this year than past Memorial Days due to schools having to make up "snow days" at the end of the school year. My state gets out May 22, but some schools have added days at the end of the year and will finish later than the 22nd. Luckily, our school district isn't one of them! We'll be there May 23-31!!!
