Hi Everyone!

I just signed up for the Animal Kingdom Expedition Everest Challenge on May 3, 2014. I think it will be very hard to find anyone in the crowd at the race, so I'm looking to meet up with some other racers the night before.

I will be at the Boardwalk Atlantic Dance Hall on Friday night. Join me and my running buddy for some pre-race partying!
party:

I would also love to hear about anyone's past EE experiences, specifically what I should expect for obstacles as well as any scavenger hunt tips!

I'll look forward to seeing you before the race!

1,100 views but no posts or PMs? Is it me?

OK, everybody, I am upping the ante.

Friday night, after Illuminations, come hit Kimonos with us for some sushi and karaoke before heading over to Atlantic Dance Hall!

If you're doing the Expedition Everest Challenge on Saturday, you need to get used to staying up late anyway! That party runs until 2:30 am!

Obviously, both doing karaoke and dancing are not-so-much fun to do alone, and while I will have a friend with me, I would love to have a group of runners along for the ride!

If you're concerned that I may be berserk, a too-wild partier, or looking for a date, please let me put your mind at ease. My friend and I are both married with kids, totally sane, but looking forward to having a fun, fantastic weekend. I'll be recovering from a long New Hampshire winter too! Below is a pic of me with the same little munchkin from my profile pic. I know what you're thinking: "Wow, she looks much older, but he hasn't aged a bit!" <grin>

Send me a PM if you are interested in having a blast Friday night!

My kids and I will be flying in Friday night, so I doubt we will be able tho meet up with anyone, but it sounds fun.

I'm flying in VERY early on Friday morning myself. I figure I'll sleep by the pool after I do the race pickup.

Unfortunately I don't think we will be coming in until that day so we wont be around to meet anyone but we did run last year. We had an absolute blast at the race last year. The race and event is a great time and the crowds and costumes were pretty festive.

The obstacles were not tough, they are "Disney" obstacles. First one was a set of hay bails that you jump over, the second was tires that you run through and the last was a cargo net that you crawl under. You can bypass any or all but why?? Do them and have fun! The crowd can build a bit at these but who is in a rush anyway?

The scavenger hunt is neat as well as you run or walk the 5k again and collect clues from cast members that help you solve a puzzle to claim your prize at the end (medal). Medal was awesome last year as well. Some people go all out and are serious about the whole run, get your clue and finish the race but the vast majority are helping each other, relaxing and taking in the fun.

The after party was great too with the big rides all open and no real lines to speak of at all. Plenty of music and activities to be had. Animal Kingdom at night was very pretty and a site that you do not usually get to see that late into the morning.

Thanks for the info about the obstacles, Threxix!

When you go under the cargo net, what kind of a surface are you on? Grass, pavement, sand, mud?

It's a great idea. Unfortunately, I cannot make a Friday night meet. Looking forward to my 1st EEC.

Loose dirt under the nets. You will barely "get dirty". Still it is a blast!

I haven't booked my flight yet. I am not sure if I am coming down Friday after work or Saturday morning...heck I may even drive like I did for the EE 2012.

I will be driving down on Thursday night after I get out of class. Still not sure where I'm staying, I have friends down there but nobody has responded to my questions about crashing space, so I may just toss an air mattress in the back of the Ele and get a spot at Ft. Wilderness.

I'll be in town Friday night, I just may look you up. My brother was supposed to run with me, but he backed out so I'm 1/2 a team running by myself. The only part that scares me is the scavenger hunt. I'm lousy at solving clues, that was his job. Looking forward to my first Disney race.

Sunfleur, it is funny you mention the scavenger hunt clues. I found some blog entries from people who ran the race in past years and felt totally intimidated when I was not able to solve the clues for a few minutes. Ok, realistically, some of them took me a few days... And then I just looked at the answers.

I just went onto Amazon and ordered a few puzzle books which seemed to have similar types of puzzles. Hopefully they will give my brain the exercise it needs to solve those clues quickly!

This is what the books were:
"Are You Smart, Or What" by Pat Battaglia
and
"The Little Black Book of Brain Games" by Suzanne Beilenson

I figure I'll tear a page out of the book right before I head out for a run and see how well I read, process, and solve it while running. I'm currently doing 5-mile runs in about 49 minutes, so hopefully the puzzles won't take me longer than that!

Come look for us at Kimonos on Friday night!

Less than a week to go, everybody!

I've been running a lot to get ready for the race, but haven't really worked on my singing voice. Karaoke should be either very... entertaining for anyone watching me.

Hope to see you all at Kimonos or Atlantic Dance Hall after!

In town. Heading to the park. One of my (non-running) friends decided not to come. I have an extra 3-day park hopper if anybody needs one. PM me.

Whooo-hooo! On ME, headed to the Boardwalk. It is raining, but once race packet pickup is done, the sun will be back out. Right???

I'm sorry I brought the rain with me. At least it's not 2 inches per hour like it was back home this week. :(

Been hearing some close thunder, so I'm going to wait for it to settle down a bit before I brave Expo and MK. I don't have anything planned until 4:40 anyway.

Where is this place that we're meeting up tonight?

How was the race?!?! I learned about it too late but really want to do it next year!
Did the weather particpae?

It was a little rainy, temps in low to mid sixties. Kinda miserable waiting to start but nearly perfect for running, not too hot, not too cold. Race was fun, I made it across the finish line quicker than I had hoped. All in all a good weekend. Ready to run again next year!
