Dolphin Discovery @ Chankanaab picture cd?

Hey all,

Just wondering what some of you paid for your cds, if you don't mind sharing.

I paid about $80 for a CD and two 5x6 pictures (my wife/brother bargained them to include both). Reading around though (tripadvisor and what not), it seems people have paid more for the cd/pictures on average... I actually thought $80 wasn't bad but there are like 57 pics on it. I wonder how they come up with the pricing as it seems variable. Is it based on # of pictures taken or something?

Are you able to bring your camera to this to avoid paying these high prices? I am assuming not - but you never know :-)

No, they used to allow observers to take photos from the boardwalk above this interaction areas, but they have stopped this.

They definitely don't allow it. I was only able to take videos from the main deck but they rope off the 'boardwalk' area to get to the pens. And it turned out that the pen my wife was in was one of the furthest ones away from the main deck. On top of that, the photographers from other dolphin sessions kept walking back and forth and conveniently standing in the way of the pictures I was trying to get by zooming in, almost as if intentionally to get in the way of my pictures.

I guess my wife had fun but I wasn't very impressed. I don't know - maybe standing there for an hour trying to take pictures that came out poorly, then spending $80 on "professional" pics and feeling like I just wasted an hour of my time, is what tainted the whole experience for me hahaha. Not to mention, I paid $20 for Chankanaab entrance and only got to enjoy 20 minutes of snorkeling otherwise. If I ever go back to Cozumel, I'm definitely not giving them anymore of my business!

I think we paid $20 for one picture. :( We really wanted more but the prices they were asking were way out of our range.

It is based on how many people are in your party.

Yea that makes sense. I'm sort of glad I didn't do it then, because we probably would have spent double on pictures! I guess $80 for the CD plus two prints is *reasonable* - and it probably would have been hard to argue the price down. We probably could have used the fact that they cut the session short (due to the trainer showing up late) as a bargaining chip. But that wasn't on our minds at the time. For one, I just wanted to get out of the place but also make sure we weren't late back to the ship.

I think they wanted to charge $30-40 for single pictures. Such a rip-off... well, I think it's safe to say that my wife's dream of swimming with dolphins has been fulfilled and we'll never have to do this ever again. Hah... I chuckle because she did a Dolphin Encounter in Tahiti (which was twice as expensive ugh) and she regretted it because she only got to pet/kiss/play with a dolphin rather than swim or get pulled/pushed by them. Women... jk jk jk :rotfl:
