Construction work on the MK Castle...

if you want more info on the moat go check this thread out on WDWmagic.com it really has a lot of info on it. It looks like they will be expanding walkways around the hub and give the area more ease of access. Disney is really doing a lot of walkway, and viewing area work.

Please let this just be a refurb. Sounds like they are just trying to stuff as many people in as possible... Please say it isn't so!

Wilson Flyer - you dont have to be such a jerk about it and a sexist pig.

The reason I posted this was because an employee of Disney who works for Disney Photography said the moat was to be drained PERMANENTLY TO MAKE ROOM FOR MORE GUESTS. I would not have posted anything if they said it was a standard refurb project.
I don't see anything in Wilson Flyer's post that would label him a "jerk" or "sexist pig". Relax, your stressing over a ditch full (or not full) of water. lol

Does anyone have any current park pictures to show what has already been done... We haven't been there since 2009 and I never thought they would be getting rid of green space.

I don't have a picture but I did see one and not a lot has been done in the hub area. There has been a lot of concrete work all down main street tho.

This is why I love this place. Gathering of information and through a collective effort of research, history, people's observations, rumor reporting and verification - stuff like this comes to light.

THANKS PEOPLE!

According to the folks over at wdwmagic.com the permit for this project has been filed and runs until November 2015 so the project should be finished before that date.

I know this is needed, but I just don't like it!! The rose garden and the old boat dock are my favorite places in all of Disney. So quiet and peaceful in the middle of all the madness! That part of the park will truly be missed!!

If the pictures that have been photoshopped are close to the real thing the I am ok with it. This area is the worse when it comes to crowd congestion so anything to relieve the area will be a big help. Lets just hope we do not end up with a concrete jungle.

I agree with this - we have experienced some of the nightmares trying to navigate out of the park after people have started to line-up for Wishes/MSEP .... they actually wound up opening a path back-stage behind the main street stores - so easing congestion is something they need to do - and that mocked up image seams reasonable to do this without destroying the entire setting.

the rumors are that they are going to try and enforce some of the walkways as no standing and watching areas. So for wishes or events where guests stop and watch the new expanded walkways will be strictly for walking and bypassing the hub. If you are going to stand and watch the fireworks you would need to be in the old hub. I would say that almost everyone is saying something along the lines of this is needed because it's quite a bottleneck but it loses some of it ambiance. I think it's going to be great they are going to be adding a lot of landscaping and some fountains to make the area look good.

Wow, I don't think it has been so bad that I have had to take the side route down Main Street, but I have been there when it is bad. Especially that little route into Tomorrowland through the noodle station. The crowds there are unbearable and we couldn't ever stop to watch wishes due to the lane having to stay clear. So yea I am all up for it.

Amen. You won't find our family anywhere close to the castle hub from 75 minutes before the first night parade until 30 minutes after Wishes or second night parade.

It needed to be done long ago.

I've always wondered what the Fire Marshall thinks of the hub at that time of night.

concrete hasn't been poured yet they are draining the moat right now. The project should be completed by November 2015.

November 2015 seems like a REALLY long time.

I don't understand why it takes Disney such a long time to do stuff. Didn't Uni build the HP expansion in a year?

For this project I can see the 18 month timeline. That is a lot of fill dirt to bring in after guests leave at night and have cleaned up before opening each morning as I can't see anyway for heavy machinery to reach it during park hours. Then there is compacting all that soil, building the walkways, and landscaping it all. Wonder if they turn any of it into utilidor tunnels instead of back filling it?
