Having to use the KTTW for lights...

No, you don't need separate cards to turn on the bathroom lights. A card in the slot by the door controls ALL lights in the stateroom, including the bathrooms.

Ah ok, thank you.

Wish I would have known all these tricks before our last cruise. My son's KTTWC from the Vibe cracked in half in the slot. It was a whole ordeal to get it out and replace it. Took a lot of time and everyone was anxious to get out and do something fun! Thanks for all the tips for next time.

I just used a business card (ironically from the cab we used in July...I thought I'd lost it actually. And it worked fine

I don't remember for sure, but I thought you could just pull the card up a bit and it would turn the lights off. When you come back to the room and want the lights on you just push the card down all the way. :confused3

Yes, you are correct. You can just pull the card part way out of the slot so that it's not "clicked in." When you return to the room, just push it back down. It doesn't hurt to put a magnet on a card and stick it to the wall, but it isn't necessary. We use whatever card is handy -- grocery store rewards card, library card, etc.

I wondered why the magnets too when you can just pull it out a bit, and was told that sometimes if you leave a card in the slot, the stateroom host will take the card.

Never happened to me on the Dream or Fantasy (3 cruises), the card has always still been in the slot, but it apparently does happen.

Does the card only control lights? Or the air too?

It controls the air too. Whenever we left our cabin for an extended period of time and returned, we could tell that A/C had not been running in the room. I hated coming back to a warmer room but once we put the card in the slot and the A/C kicked on again, it cooled off fairly quickly. I wanted to just leave the card in the slot but was worried the Stateroom Host would just remove it when she cleaned the room and then we would not have it to conveniently turn the lights on.

It does not control the air only the lights.
I didn't think so either, but I've read a few times now that people were told that it does control the A/C somehow.

It happened to us, we used a library card we had and had to get it back from the room steward. He had a whole bunch of different cards people used. Said it was because it is just habit to pull the card out when you leave the room thought it was one of the ones he uses.

This happened to us too, so we make sure to use a card that is OK to lose. If there is no card in there, the room steward uses his own. So he may take yours on accident.

Ours realized that he had done it and brought it back later. But just in case, use a card that won't be a problem if you lose it :thumbsup2

Oh, and we would just pull ours out and stick it back in diagonally (corner first). I didn't realize that just pulling it part way works too. I'll have to remember that :)

It does not control the air conditioning or any of the outlets. Only the lights and the television.

If the air is turning off, it is for some other reason.
