Having to use the KTTW for lights...

so do some people just leave your key in the slot to keep lights running whenever you are in the room? The same key with charging privileges and that opens your door? That seems so bizarre to me. I have read you can bring an old hotel card/gift card to use. This seems so strange to me.

DCL is trying to conserve energy so in order for your lights to stay on, a CARD must be in the slot. It can be your KTTW card although, I do not recommend this because it could easily be forgotten when you leave your room. We just stick whatever kind of card DH has in his wallet in it which is usually like a grocery store savings card or something similar.

I had asked my cabin steward for an extra key/card to place in the slot so I did'nt risk leaving mine in the slot and walking out. He gave me one with no questions asked.

We put a magnet on a blank card and when we leave our room just pull it out and put it above the slot.

We had our KTTW card in the slot and our lanyard on the door handle so it was really difficult to forget to take the card out. You get used to it. Many places in Europe have light systems like this as well.

We actually have been using the do not disturb sign for the door, one of our room hosts showed us the trick on a previous cruise.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. This is what we always do.

We use an old gift card and we just leave it in there. We're very good about turning lights off when we leave.

That's brilliant. I'll have to do that. I was planning on using a generic rewards card that'd never been registered or used before so if I lose it it's not a big deal, but I have tons of magnetic business cards from various businesses given to me for marketing materials. Thanks for the idea! :thumbsup2

I don't remember for sure, but I thought you could just pull the card up a bit and it would turn the lights off. When you come back to the room and want the lights on you just push the card down all the way. :confused3

Do the bathroom lights need a card as well or just the main cabin lights?

You have to have a card in the slot by the door to turn on any light in the room, even the bathrooms.

So the door switch acts like a main switch then? Do you need separate cards to turn on the bathroom lights or are they normal switches?

No, you don't need separate cards to turn on the bathroom lights. A card in the slot by the door controls ALL lights in the stateroom, including the bathrooms.
