~ Sew Sweet 16 ~I’m packing your angry eyes just in case~Aug 2014~ BFF' bag 8/20!!!!

And now begins the chapter in the adventure of parents of teenaged girls titled: boys....friends and otherwise. I do not envy you at all.

They are threatening another winter event for Tuesday/Wednesday - this time with the possibility of real ice. Not GOOD. That's when we lose power.
Well, it's a couple of days away...

Have a warm safe whatever you do!

Not sure how I mssed this latest PTR...We came home from our trip in Sept and life got CRAZY so I haven't been in the DIS much....guess I have a lot of pages to catch up on!

D, thanks for your wishes for Mark. He's doing a little better. He had a long night Friday and a long day Saturday with us so he was a little sore because he didn't use his cooling machine as much as he should have. He is slowly cutting back on his pain pills too.

Thanks! Me too! WA is a "for sure" trip... Just have to save up enough $$. WDW will be a "see how WA goes trip"... LOL And of course, I will have to take my Dad's health into consideration too... But I would LOVE to take him there and let him experience it... Many logistics would have to be considered - he would definately need to rent a scooter, and we would have to go during a slow and cooler time... We'll see... :thumbsup2 It's something I'd love to keep at the back of my mind... Somewhat of a "do-over" of my childhood and his... I think it would be good for us.

Baby steps. So WA is the baby step trip and then hopefully WDW. Of course health and cooler times are something you need to look at. Trips I've taken now with my parent's I cherish just as much (if not more so) as the trips I took with them when I was a kid. I look back now and understand why we did the things we did. We didn't get the family time at home but we sure did when we were on vacation (camping, Disneyland, road trips to Texas and Colorado to visit extended family, etc.)

Glad things went well with the male friend. Not something I'm looking forward too as the kids (especially Sarah) get's older.

Always nice to have a down day every now and then. We've been getting rain the last few days but we had promised Jeremy we'd go to lunch or dinner for his birthday and since we didn't go yesterday (Jeff did take him to see the Lego Movie which they both really enjoyed) we did go out into the rain today.

Your progress picture is really amazing. Actually I think you can see so much change in your face, which is an area that is probably part of your body that is least likely to show results. Your lifestyle change in your eating habits will continue to have an impact on your body and your health, even if the results are not obvious. Good for you for being able to continue your journey.

Thanks Liz... Yes, I do notice a lot of change in my face. :thumbsup2 I know that I see a lot of things that have changed over the last several months, I just know that so many people are used to/wanting to see rapid change - including myself, and I just cannot do that anymore. It's just so hard to wrap my mind around it. The hardest part of all this is the mental battle that I constantly have to have with myself... I don't battle with the food part or being hungry - I battle with the fact that I want visible change so badly/yet I want to do this the healthy way - and I have to constantly reinforce to myself that slow is better, and no matter how small - progress is good.

The Dumbo bag is gorgeous as usual. The applique is stunning! I also wanted to say that the stitching from your embroidery machine looks really nice too. Such a fun detail you could add.

Thanks! I am very happy with my new embroidery machine... I do wish I could use it more, but then my bags wouldn't be unique if I was using digitized designs... But I am more than happy to use it for zipper pulls - it worked out quite nicely for that. :thumbsup2

Stay warm if you head out today but I wouldn't blame you if you decided to stay home and hibernate today.

Thanks! I hope you had a nice weekend too!

D, we are still out of town, but I had to pop in and tell you how much I love the Dumbo bag. It is perfect in every way.

Thank you Kathy! I am so VERY HAPPY that you like it! :lovestruc

Thanks for all of your concern for us. We did get power back on Friday, but did not get cable/internet back until this morning. I was going through serious withdrawal -

I am very relieved that you have eveything back in order now!

I love the Dumbo bag - see what amazing things you can do with your new embroidery machine - the hang tag turned out great!

Thanks! It was a lot of fun to use it!

I guess when you have a beautiful teenage daughter, you have to expect the male-type friends to start hanging out.....

I know - I guess it's inevitable... I was just hoping to prolong it a bit longer... Sigh.

We haven't been able to watch any of the Olympics yet, however, we have a local girl, Summer Britcher, who is in the women's luge, so I hope we can catch some of her on tv. I don't know what the schedule is though.

Oh cool... I don't think they have started any of the luge yet... I haven't seen any, anyways. I will keep my eyes open for her.

As far as the ice storm we got on Wednesday - we had a total of 1/2 inch of ice. It is being called the 2nd worst storm of the century - so far, just behind Sandy for the amount of damage it has caused. The epicenter of the storm was over York County, so apparently we suffered the brunt of it. We are supposed to get another couple of inches of snow today. Luckily the blizzard they had predicted earlier in the week didn't happen, however it may be on the horizon for next weekend. I AM SICK OF SNOW! Luckily I have a trip in one month to look forward to

WOW! I am just so thankful that you are all safe... I sure hope that any snow you received was minimal and didn't make anymore of a mess of things.

Kat is doing well and her spirit is high as well.

This makes me happy! THanks so much for the update.

And now begins the chapter in the adventure of parents of teenaged girls titled: boys....friends and otherwise. I do not envy you at all.

Lord, help us...

They are threatening another winter event for Tuesday/Wednesday - this time with the possibility of real ice. Not GOOD. That's when we lose power.
Well, it's a couple of days away...

Have a warm safe whatever you do!

Oh no!!! You all are just getting the worst weather this year! Thankfully we haven't had too many "snow events", but the cold has been very bad here this year. Like all of you - I am NEEDING spring!

Not sure how I mssed this latest PTR...We came home from our trip in Sept and life got CRAZY so I haven't been in the DIS much....guess I have a lot of pages to catch up on!

Well - Hello there Star!!! It's been a while! I hope that even with the craziness of life, you all are doing well! Thanks so much for stopping by - it's great to see you again!

D, thanks for your wishes for Mark. He's doing a little better. He had a long night Friday and a long day Saturday with us so he was a little sore because he didn't use his cooling machine as much as he should have. He is slowly cutting back on his pain pills too.

I am glad to hear that Mark is doing better - even if it's a little slow. It's good that he is cutting back on his pills.

I hope you had a safe trip home yesterday. :lovestruc

Exactly! We will see how it all goes... When we go to WA - we will stay with relatives... When (If) we go to Disney, we will (obviously) have to stay in a hotel... at that point, I would have to decide if we need 1 or 2 rooms...

Glad things went well with the male friend. Not something I'm looking forward too as the kids (especially Sarah) get's older.

I suggest you delay it as long as possible.

I hope you enjoyed your dinner out! And I am glad to hear that Jeremy enjoyed the Lego movie... :thumbsup2 I hope he had a wonderful birthday!

**********************************************************

The girls and I did make it up to BFF's house yesterday... We visited for a couple hours, then we ventured out to do some shopping...

We hit Target (surprise, surprise...), Barnes n' Noble and Kohl's. I didn't buy much/anything... but it was nice to get out.

We ate lunch at Jimmy Johns... It was a bit sad to order my sandwich as an "Unwich" - Wrapped in lettuce instead of bread... but it was good. I was surprised at how salty their meat is... Either it's always that way and I've never noticed it because the bread hides it - or this was just really salty. I am pretty sure it's the former and not the latter. I've noticed that my taste buds are really sensitive these days, and I am able to really taste different elements in food... :confused3

The girls and I came home... The girls worked on their homework, and I was sloth-like in front of the TV.

Josh made a roast on the smoker yesterday - it was divine!

Today, I will be starting my next custom order. I am excited about it... It is a character I have done before - sort of - so, it will be fun. :wizard:

I hope you all have a wonderful day today... prayers go out to Nini and her family - she is safely on the road headed towards WDW, and everyone else who needs them. :lovestruc

D~

The women's luge is today and tomorrow, so I hope to watch when I get home tonight.

The next winter event is probably going to happen Wednesday night into Thursday - significant snowfall is what they have said. UGH!!!! Especially since Shannon is due to come home this week - I really don't want her driving into a storm.

The saddest part of our story was that we actually have a generator. We haven't had to use it for about 8 years though and seal between the gas tank and the engine had rotted, so we weren't able to use it. Charlie went on Friday and bought a new one. We are going to give our old one to my niece and her husband, who can replace the seal himself. So we are set for the next time our power goes out, which could be soon....

Charlie and I went out yesterday and I could not believe the devastion everywhere. Hundreds of trees have been damaged or destroyed. They are everywhere. In addition to the 1/2 inch of ice, most trees still had a layer of snow from the storm we got on Monday. The tree guys are going to make a lot of money this winter.

I have your dad's gift finished and ready to mail, just need to get to the post office...

Hey!

I love the Dumbo Bag He is really adorable!!! I checked and i see i might have a delivery today...

Kathy how is Mark? Tess I am so sorry about the devastation in your neighborhood. and Key is an inspiration to be that strong and go through what she is!!!

haven't heard from Lois so i am hoping she got off ok.

Ariana! LOVE the bands! I have been lurking on that thread for a while now.. scheming on what i want to do with ours... :rolleyes1

D~ you look amazing..

Hey D - just popping in to let you know I think you look amazing and very healthy; you are getting into such a wonderful food for life plan and doing exercise the right way; don't beat yourself up; know what you are doing is helping long term; and remember what a motivator you are!

Love, love, love the Dumbo bag; I love primary colors. The inside fabric is perfect. You put so much of yourself in each bag, it shows!

Finally got your Dad's package mailed Friday; Thursday was an ice day here and I didn't get to the post office. I hope to pick up a postcard for him when we are in WDW this weekend.

Stay warm and safe! As always, prayers sent your way.

Exactly! We will see how it all goes... When we go to WA - we will stay with relatives... When (If) we go to Disney, we will (obviously) have to stay in a hotel... at that point, I would have to decide if we need 1 or 2 rooms...

You have plenty of time to decide on the room situation because it's at least a year away. Hope you are able to do both trips as it's memories I'm sure you'll both cherish.

I suggest you delay it as long as possible.!

I plan on it!! She's only 5 and I told her the other day she's not allowed to get any older. Her response was "Well Mommy you can't stop it. My birthday is going to come every September whether you want it to or not." When did she get so smart on how time works? Oh well I tried.

I hope you enjoyed your dinner out! And I am glad to hear that Jeremy enjoyed the Lego movie... :thumbsup2 I hope he had a wonderful birthday!

We had a great time! Went to Red Robin (Jeremy's choice) and also met one of Jeff's cousins there that the kids love!! She always enjoys seeing them and they are always happy to see her. He did have a wonderful birthday. He got a few Lego sets and a Star Wars puzzle that he now can't wait to open.

Glad you made it to your BFF's house. Hoe you had a successful shopping trip.

It is harder to go out and eat the same foods you love and have to change it to fit the way you eat now. I do that when we go out too. Get dressing on the side, leave off things, etc.

This bag was truly a labor of love for me... Mo has been waiting on my custom list for almost a year, and it was truly a delight for me to make a bag for her.

Mo has become one of my very bestest Dis friends... She gave me a list of about 200 themes to choose from... :scratchin But the minute she mentioned this one, I just kNEW I had to do it for her...

For any of you the know Mo... oknow that this bag fits her personality and her life perfectly.

OMG!!! Love how the triplets look!! Material inside looks very pretty too. One of my favorites for sure!!!

Well, for crying out loud, of course the triplets would be a no-brainer for Mo.
She's got her own set!!
Personality wise they're her to a t - or at least the way she write.

Awesome!

Yeah- spring cannot get here soon enough & I actually like winter.
They've upgraded the "Winter Weather Advisory" to a Winter Storm Warning - which means ice. Which means power outages. Which means...

Sigh...

Oh well, maybe - if we do have power - i can get some work done with the sewing.

LOVE the triplets bag. My dad and grandparents are from Scotland. Your talent is amazing!!! Have a great day!!

The women's luge is today and tomorrow, so I hope to watch when I get home tonight.

Shoot - I missed it last night... I almost forgot I had my City Council meeting... :crazy2:

The next winter event is probably going to happen Wednesday night into Thursday - significant snowfall is what they have said. UGH!!!! Especially since Shannon is due to come home this week - I really don't want her driving into a storm.

I don't want her driving into a storm either... I wish you could talk her into waiting.

The saddest part of our story was that we actually have a generator. We haven't had to use it for about 8 years though and seal between the gas tank and the engine had rotted, so we weren't able to use it. Charlie went on Friday and bought a new one. Bummer that your old generator didn't work for you - but glad that someone can repair it and use it! And relieved you were able to purchase one... Around here, when things like that are needed for an event, it's not uncommon for them to be completely sold out everywhere... So, glad you were able to find one and now you will be prepared. :thumbsup2

I have your dad's gift finished and ready to mail, just need to get to the post office...

Yay!!! I am very excited to see what it is the next time I go up. :lovestruc Thank you Tess - I know your life has been so crazy... He will love what ever it is you are sending him. ::yes::

Hey!

I love the Dumbo Bag He is really adorable!!! I checked and i see i might have a delivery today...

I know - I am sooo in love with that Dumbo bag... It was so fun to make!

Kathy how is Mark? Tess I am so sorry about the devastation in your neighborhood. and Key is an inspiration to be that strong and go through what she is!!!

Yes... I agree!

haven't heard from Lois so i am hoping she got off ok.

I hope so too... I hope her and Ariana are frolicking in the sunshine... :beach:

Ariana! LOVE the bands! I have been lurking on that thread for a while now.. scheming on what i want to do with ours...

D~ you look amazing..

Thanks doll... Some days I think I do, and others - well - I just try not to look at myself... :crazy2:

Thanks Carol... I try so hard not to obsess over it - some days it's just so hard. I look at where I was 1 year ago, and it's hard to believe this is my same body - the changes that can't be seen are the most noticable to me. :lovestruc

Love, love, love the Dumbo bag; I love primary colors. The inside fabric is perfect. You put so much of yourself in each bag, it shows!

That is awesome! I am anxious to hear/see what you sent! :thumbsup2 He did send you a thank you card, did you receive it? He didn't have any stamps, so I had to bring it home with me and mail it from here... I hope you received it. :lovestruc

You have plenty of time to decide on the room situation because it's at least a year away. Hope you are able to do both trips as it's memories I'm sure you'll both cherish.

I know... I hope so. I know someone else who is planning a trip with someone a little older, so I am watching that planning like a hawk to see how it all works out. Who knows, this might be the trip I get to go during the holidays to see all the lights - something I've been dying to do my entire life! :scratchin And what better way to do it than with my Dad? Of course, if I go during the holidays, I will have to stay at WL, because I have heard that is the BEST resort to stay at during the holidays. LOL We'll see... :lovestruc

I plan on it!! She's only 5 and I told her the other day she's not allowed to get any older. Her response was "Well Mommy you can't stop it. My birthday is going to come every September whether you want it to or not." When did she get so smart on how time works? Oh well I tried.

Oh wow... :faint: What a smart little girl... I probably would have cried right on the spot... :faint:

We had a great time! Went to Red Robin (Jeremy's choice) and also met one of Jeff's cousins there that the kids love!! She always enjoys seeing them and they are always happy to see her. He did have a wonderful birthday. He got a few Lego sets and a Star Wars puzzle that he now can't wait to open.

Sounds like a GREAT birthday to me!

Glad you made it to your BFF's house. Hoe you had a successful shopping trip.

Yes, it was fun! I am glad we made it too.

It is harder to go out and eat the same foods you love and have to change it to fit the way you eat now. I do that when we go out too. Get dressing on the side, leave off things, etc.

It's definately harder... The hardest part for me, is trying to find things with out a lot of processing... When I ate out with my dad a couple weeks ago - that was the worst... We went to a buffet, so I ordered just the "salad bar" thinking that would be OK... But all the veggies just tasted *wrong* - I was a bit annoyed. I wound up not eating very much at all... If we go there again (which I am sure we will) - I won't order the salad bar... I will just order a giant steak. :thumbsup2

OMG!!! Love how the triplets look!! Material inside looks very pretty too. One of my favorites for sure!!!

Thank you! It was so fun to make them... It was a little hard to get them to all fit on there though... I had to make them bigger, so I could get the details of their faces a bit better, but it was hard to get them to fit so you can see all of the expressions. I love how it turned out though.

Well, for crying out loud, of course the triplets would be a no-brainer for Mo.

Hahaha... Exactly my thought. LOL

She's got her own set!!

:crazy2:

Personality wise they're her to a t - or at least the way she write.

Yup... :scratchin She writes the exact way her personality is... So that is just perfect! I am so happy with how it turned out.

Oh no... I've been watching the weather around the country... So many of my friends are having a hard time... Sending out prayers for all of you! :wizard:

**********************************************************

I had a great day in my sewing room yesterday... I was able to get my next custom order cut out and quilted... I was even able to get the applique cut out... which makes a nicer day for me today. I feel like I am a little bit ahead of myself. ::yes::

Josh was off of work yesterday... He grilled steaks for dinner last night... Mmmmm.... I even have some leftovers to go with my eggs this morning for breakfast. Steak n' eggs.... :lovestruc

I have 3 good friends in WDW this week... Nini, Lois and Ariana... I hope they are all pixie dusted with lots n' lots of magic! Prayers are going out to everyone who needs them... :lovestruc

D~

Love the Dumbo bag and I am in love with the background fabric for the triplet bag! I'd like to have something for myself made with that fabric - maybe a cute skirt. It is just beautiful!

Hope you have a great day today!

I have to constantly reinforce to myself that slow is better, and no matter how small - progress is good.
I am more impressed that you have been able to make the changes in your eating habits and sticking with your regular workouts over the long term. I really feel it will be a life change for you and that is a much better result then quick changes that you can't hold onto. :flower3:

The girls and I did make it up to BFF's house yesterday... We visited for a couple hours, then we ventured out to do some shopping...

Glad you got to go out and visit with your BFF. Funny that the food at your beloved Jimmy John's and the salad bar don't taste the same to you. Your taste buds are getting more selective!

Charlie and I went out yesterday and I could not believe the devastion everywhere. Hundreds of trees have been damaged or destroyed. They are everywhere. In addition to the 1/2 inch of ice, most trees still had a layer of snow from the storm we got on Monday. The tree guys are going to make a lot of money this winter.
.
Yikes! Can't believe how much damage there was, ice is the worst. Glad you got a new generator just in case, too bad the old one didn't work for you when you needed it but I guess it is a good thing that you haven't need it in the past 8 years.

This bag was truly a labor of love for me... Mo has been waiting on my custom list for almost a year, and it was truly a delight for me to make a bag for her.

Love ya Mo, mean it (glad you love it!) :lovestruc

D~
You've outdone yourself again. This bag is so unique and I love the the fabric you chose. Those little triplets are just perfect. You can just "feel" how mischievous they are....kind of like Mo. LOVE it. Mo is so lucky to have this wonderful bag, her patience has paid off.

Both of your new bags are wonderful. I do like the Brave bag better than Dumbo but that's because Dumbo is my least favorite Disney movie.
I can really see that difference in your before and after photos even if you can't.
Glad you had a good day in your sewing room yesterday. I was at work as usual setting mods for the new releases. It kept us busy all day. I hope today is busy, too.
One of my young friends is going in to have her baby today. She really doesn't have any close family. All of us at work are her family. This is her fourth child. The other are all under 4. She'd really appreciate any good thoughts.
I Hope everyone have a good day.
Liz

What a great bag. Nice colors and the applique looks great as always :)
I'm glad you had a good day in your sewing room yesterday.

Yeah new bags! Love the triplets bag, too cute!

Okay don't hate me, I love the outside of the Dumbo bag, great colors and the tag is adorable.... but um there are clowns on the inside of the bag! :joker: I don't have a fear of them (unless its Pennywise from It) they just creep me out!!

You are definately showing progress in those pictures! By the way I love your orange dress in the pictures by the fence.

I know... I hope so. I know someone else who is planning a trip with someone a little older, so I am watching that planning like a hawk to see how it all works out. I've never been to WDW for the holidays but I have been to DL and they do deck out the parks so that would be a great time to go. Hope it does all work and I've also heard WL is gorgeous during the holidays.

Oh wow... :faint: What a smart little girl... I probably would have cried right on the spot... :faint:

I was surprised with her response. I would have probably cried if I wasn't in shock. She is too smart for her own good and it drives me crazy at times. So not looking forward to her teenage years.

That is hard when things don't taste right and you're trying so hard to eat right. At least you have a plan for next time!!

Thank you! It was so fun to make them... It was a little hard to get them to all fit on there though... I had to make them bigger, so I could get the details of their faces a bit better, but it was hard to get them to fit so you can see all of the expressions. I love how it turned out though.

They do look great. At first glance it looked like all of their hair was one and then when I looked closer I realized not that's not how it was at all. They are a mischievous bunch though and you captured it perfectly!!
