The stateroom categories are sometimes confusing. I'm going to post what I know about the different stateroom categories on the Dream / Fantasy and have others fill in what I'm missing. I'm posting this, both because I'm curious, and also because it can be a helpful resource to somebody choosing which category to book.

Standard Inside (11)
11C - Deck 2
11B - Decks 5, 6, 7
11A - Decks 8, 9, 10

Deluxe Inside (10)
10A - Decks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Deluxe Oceanview (9)
9D - Obstructed View - Forward (including corners) on Deck 6, Forward corners only on Decks 7 and 8
9C - Obstructed View, not sure how it differs from 9D; maybe less obstructed. Forward (not corners) on Decks 7 and 8
9B - Deck 2
9A - Decks 5, 6, 7, 8

Family Oceanview (8)
8D - Decks 5 and 6
8C - Decks 7 and 8
8B - Deck 9
8A - Bigger than the other 8's, and have 2 portholes. Some are "mini-suites" and some have an "open floor plan". Decks 5 and 6

Deluxe Verandah (5, 6, 7)
7A - Disney calls these Navigator's Verandahs, but they are really just regular verandahs with an obstructed view or an undersized verandah. The real navigator's verandahs are only on the Magic and Wonder. Decks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

6B - Whitewall, Decks 5, 6, 7 Aft
6A - Whitewall, Decks 8, 9 Aft
(On the Dream and Fantasy, the whitewalls are very small and don't really obstruct the view the way they do on the Magic and Wonder)

5E - Oversized verandahs, facing aft with whitewall. Decks 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, all facing aft, including corners
5D - Plexiglass, Deck 6
5C - Plexiglass, Deck 7
5B - Plexiglass, Deck 8
5A - Plexiglass, Decks 9 and 10

Family Verandah (4), All have plexiglass and are not obstructed. Only Cat. 4D, 4C, 4B, and 4A are actually larger
4E - Deck 5 (Oversized verandah, but room is the same size as Cat. 5x)
4D - Deck 6
4C - Deck 7
4B - Deck 8
4A - Decks 9 and 10

Concierge (V, T, R)
V - Concierge Family Verandah - Decks 11 and 12 (no Magic / Wonder equivalent)
T - Concierge 1 Bedroom Suite - Decks 11 and 12 (Former Cat. 3)
R - Concierge Royal Suite - Deck 12 (Former Cat. 1)

Cat. S is used only on the Magic and Wonder. (Former Cat. 2)

Am I correct about everything? If someone can answer the questions I had, and can correct any mistakes I made, this can be a good resource for people who are booking a cruise.

Thanks, mitsguy! I like the way you have included info about obstructed views, etc. That kind of detail is sometimes hard to find.

Your 5e supposition is correct. They were cat 6 "some/letter", then "upgraded" due to demand/large aft view veranda on STERN.
You could/can say currently they are cat 5 "e" due to whitewall. That may help simplify your interesting angle approach to cabins despriptions.

Fwiw, IMO, the cat 4e should be labeled cat 5"x". They are smaller that other cat 4's internally. They have extended verandas, 2 - 3 times the regular size. They are aft and fore on deck 5 only. Not midship. They will not sleep 5 like some other cat 4's. Max pax 4. If they sleep 4, they will have a ceiling bunk. They are the same size as other cat 5's.

It's the baths that I always need help with. After all these years, I still can't absorb which cabins have the split bath or not. Some have a single bathroom. Some with tub. Perhaps some not? ? ? Don't all DCL cabins that are not HA have tubs of some shape? ? ?

Just my thoughts for now, if you are going to do a a write up.

Did you figure out the view from deck 7 balcony? Did you book it?
I figure you would be collecting images from verandas, instead of interior cabin info. :lmao:

I like these deckplans fwiw; http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/Main/decks.php?ship=Disney+Fantasy

ETA; As much as I support your effort, it's not as simple as you think. It would take two pages to list the ins and outs of each cat, IMO. But I wish you luck.

Disney's website says that some 5E rooms have whitewalls. In practice, do all of them have whitewalls?

I didn't realize that 4E is different from other Cat. 4's. It sounds to me like they really should be 5x, as you say. I wonder why they chose Deck 5 for the extended verandahs.

No idea, someone else will have to answer. I thought that everything had split bathrooms except for Cat. 11x and some (all?) Cat. 8A rooms?

Just my thoughts for now, if you are going to do a a write up.

Did you figure out the view from deck 7 balcony? Did you book it?

I had already booked that room before I realized that it's allegedly obstructed. I keep getting conflicting info on this board about that room. I kept it for now, since it seems better than the other rooms available now (they all seem to be near elevators).

My post had nothing to do with my cruise. It was out of curiosity, and to help others. When we get all of the questions answered, I will re-post it, and maybe it can be made sticky since it would be a good reference source.

I think the only unanswered questions are:

1. What is the difference between 9C and 9D? I'm guessing 9D is even more obstructed than 9C, but that has not been answered.

2. Do any oceanview rooms have the 2 small porholes, like the Deck 1 rooms on the Magic and Wonder? I assume not

3. What is the difference between 8A and 8D, when both are on the same decks? I'm guessing the 8A rooms are bigger. There have been posts about the 8A "mini-suites" and the 8A "open floor plan" rooms.

4. Are any 7A rooms family sized? Do any have extended verandahs? Which ones are obstructed vs which ones are undersized? I assume that none are actually navigator's verandahs.

5. Are any 6A or 6B rooms family sized? Do any have extended verandahs?

6. Do all 5E rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

7. Do any Cat. 4 rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

8. Are the Dream and Fantasy identical when it comes to staterooms?

If these questions are answered, then I or someone else can re-post the complete list. I don't think it will take 2 pages, since it's not necessarily going to detail every single cabin on the ship.

Thanks.

This list of rooms that I did notates which rooms have been recategorized and which ones were originally HA so do not have a tub or split bath, to clarify the questions that have been posted above.

You can also use the photo of the Dream that HallsofVA did that labels each stateroom on the outside of the ship to determine which rooms have an obstruction.

Those look like good resources for specific rooms.

The corner 9D cabins are HUGE. They are located on Decks 6, 7, 8. They do not have a privacy curtain. They do have a split bath (except for the handicapped 9D's). These cabins have a cozy attic feel with slanted ceiling and the porthole is on a slant.

I also like to use www.cruisedeckplans.com when checking cabin locations.

Deck 6 - Cat 9D's
6006 - Corner - Handicapped
6504 - Corner - Handicapped
6004 - Forward facing
6002 - Forward facing - connects with 6000
6000 - Forward facing - connects with 6002
6500 - Forward facing - Handicapped
6502 - Forward facing

Deck 7 Cat 9D's:
7006 - Corner
7504 - Corner

Deck 8 Cat 9D's
8006 - Corner
8504 - Corner

2. Do any oceanview rooms have the 2 small porholes, like the Deck 1 rooms on the Magic and Wonder? I assume not

No, only the classic ships have the 2 smaller portholes and these are located on Deck 1.

3. What is the difference between 8A and 8D, when both are on the same decks? I'm guessing the 8A rooms are bigger. There have been posts about the 8A "mini-suites" and the 8A "open floor plan" rooms.

What do you mean by family sized (holds 5 pax?) or do you mean oversized?

6. Do all 5E rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

None of the actual whitewalls cause an obstruction...they are only about knee high. On the Magic/Wonder the whitewalls are at least waist high and can cause an obstruction if you are sitting down.

7. Do any Cat. 4 rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

8. Are the Dream and Fantasy identical when it comes to staterooms?

Yep, as far as I know.

If these questions are answered, then I or someone else can re-post the complete list. I don't think it will take 2 pages, since it's not necessarily going to detail every single cabin on the ship.

Thanks.

I know that the 9D's are bigger than the 9C's, but there has to be something less desireable about the 9D's that puts them in a cheaper category. Are they more obstructed than the 9C's?

I'm surprised that there are so many rooms that used to be handicapped accessible that are no longer designated as such.

I'm thinking that every non-handicapped (or former handicapped) room has the split bathroom.

When I say "family sized", I meant the size of a Cat. 4 room. I assume that none of the 7A, 6A, or 6B rooms are sized as such, although some may have the extended balconies. I'm guessing that all 5E rooms have a white wall, and none have an obstructed view.

One all the questions are answered, somebody should re-post all of this, and maybe it can be made sticky.

The different letters simply indicate location in many cases. Once the HA rooms were completed, they were inspected and the ones that did not meet the standards were removed from the list. They weren't going to rip out the existing bathrooms and install split baths so yes, those still have the HA bathrooms and no tub. The cat 8s are the same size as the cat 4s on the Dream/Fantasy. They just don't have a verandah.

Some people do not like the layout of the 9D corner cabins. As I mentioned there is no privacy curtain which bothers some people and the ceiling is slanted to give it an attic look. We personally LOVE the corner 9D's but there is no real obstruction. The porthole is slanted and a bit smaller so it is different than regular portholes.

You as the Original Poster can edit your own first post with all the info once it is gathered. That is what people usually do when an information thread is started. (keep all the info in the first post).

You would have to ask one of the admins to make it a sticky since I don't know if there are any active mods on the cruise board currently. But, in the meantime, you can subscribe to the thread under thread tools so you can easily find it again. That is what I did because this will be a good info thread when complete.

Category 6 and 7 are the same size cabins as the 5s. The biggest difference is in the verandah. FWIW, we stayed in a 7 on the Fantasy in October and found the obstruction to be minimal. The 4s definitely are larger cabins.

The 5Es are all aft and there's nothing to obstruct the views there.

I assume that means that the 8B, 8C, and 8D rooms are the same size as the 4A, 4B, 4C, and 4D rooms. It seems, based on this thread and other posts, that the 8A rooms are bigger, and the 4E rooms are smaller but have extended verandahs. Is that what you meant?

How do I do that? Another idea would be to somehow make it part of an FAQ.

I remember back in 2006, there was a list of noisy rooms on Decks 1 and 2 of the Magic and Wonder. Does such a list exist for the Dream and Fantasy? If not, such a list should be created, specifially for Deck 2. The problem iwth Deck 2 is that you don't know what is below, since the public deck plans do not show the crew-only areas. I know that on the Magic and Wonder, most rooms on Decks 1 and 2 are quiet, since they have crew quarters below. But some are very noisy, since they have a crew bar or a noisy mechanical area below. It would be nice if such a list existed for the Dream / Fantasy.

To go through each of my questions, and which ones are answered and which ones are not:

1. What is the difference between 9C and 9D? I'm guessing 9D is even more obstructed than 9C, but that has not been answered.

It seems that 9D is larger but has a strange layout that some may not like. Haven't seen an answer yet as to whether or not 9D is more obstructed than 9C, or even what kind of obstruction they have. It seems 9D has a slanted porthole, but not sure about 9C.

2. Do any oceanview rooms have the 2 small porholes, like the Deck 1 rooms on the Magic and Wonder? I assume not

It seems the answer is no.

3. What is the difference between 8A and 8D, when both are on the same decks? I'm guessing the 8A rooms are bigger. There have been posts about the 8A "mini-suites" and the 8A "open floor plan" rooms.

Since nobody has commented, I assume that my assumption is correct, that 8A is bigger.

4. Are any 7A rooms family sized? Do any have extended verandahs? Which ones are obstructed vs which ones are undersized? I assume that none are actually navigator's verandahs.

Nobody has answered that. I assume none are family sized. I assume the ones on Deck 5 have the extended verandahs. Is that correct? Are the two aft-facing ones on Deck 5 undersized, and all others obstructed?

5. Are any 6A or 6B rooms family sized? Do any have extended verandahs?

I assume the answer to both questions is no.

6. Do all 5E rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

It seems none are obstructed. Do all have whitewalls?

7. Do any Cat. 4 rooms have whitewalls? Are any obstructed?

I assume the answer to both questions is no.

8. Are the Dream and Fantasy identical when it comes to staterooms?

That was answered as yes.

I will do that once all the questions are answered.

:thumbsup2

How do I do that? Another idea would be to somehow make it part of an FAQ.

Again, a mod or admin would have to do it.
