Changes to the way internet is billed on board

Yup, that's how it works. If people are just checking emails, etc, the wifi shouldn't be that slow. Trying to Facetime using ship's wifi? Sorry, but yeah, you should have to pay more than a person trying to read an email.

For us this is hugely better for us. It was agonizing to spend 5-10 minutes of internet time on board just to check a few emails. The system was sooooooo slow, I could see the dollars ticking away. We don't need to surf, download files, or watch videos on our cruise (that's not what the cruise is for), but it is nice to know we can stay in touch with home easily and at a low cost.

The calculator a PP posted showed 15 emails without attachments would take about one-third of a MB. Nice.

I agree. Checking in with family via email is enough for us!

Totally agree. Just checking our email once a day and perhaps posting a few pictures to Facebook is all I "need" to do. And I think the lowest block of MBs will be plenty for that.

Well my wife just bought the 1000 mb package on the 2/3 Magic cruise and got the intro rate of $29.99 for 1000MB rather than $80, so we are very happy.

Hi - did a search and didn't see this - apologies if I missed it. Just received the following info from my TA at DU:

Hi Everyone,

Disney Cruise Line has announced they will be changing the way they charge for Internet usage on the ships. Instead of charging by the minute, they are not charging by the megabyte. Here is the new fee structure:

· Pay as you go $.0.25 per MB
· Small 100 MB for $19.00, 19 cents per MB
· Medium 300 MB for $39.00, 13 cents per MB
· Large 1,000 MB for $80.00, 9 cents per MB.

Concierge guests in Cat S, T, V will get 100 free MB of free internet. If the guests goes over then the pricing above will apply.

Concierge guests in Cat R will get free internet for the length of the cruise.

These changes will be rolled out over the next month. Here is the schedule:

Disney Magic- 2/3
Disney Dream- 2/16
Disney Wonder- 2/26
Disney Fantasy- 3/8.

Do you have any information on the intro offer, how long it will be available? I just emailed my TA and I'm hoping I can get the discount for our cruise in March. I sent my TA an email but Since she never bothered to notify me of the change I'm feeling less then confident in her response. Thank you.

Personally I don't know how long it will last. My wife sent me a photo of the ships daily "menu" as we call it (navigator), and it had it on there. It doesn't say how long it will last though, and I doubt my wife has asked. She's supposed to FaceTime me here in about an hour, and I will try to remember to ask her.

update, my wife doesn't know when the trial period will end, at those rates, hopefully never.
