Why back-to-back cruises?

I see a number of people mentioning booking B2B cruises.
I'm curious what the appeal is of this?

More time on the ship. ;)

We did a Med/WBTA B2B. Originally we had only booked the Transatlantic crossing, but we figured we already had the airfare paid for, why not do the Med cruise just prior? That way we had a longer cruise (we prefer the longer ones) and got to see much more.

Scheduling for me. I have joint custody of DS9 who is involved in sports most if the year. So a Dream b2b (thurs -thurs) best fits my schedule as opposed to a fantasy which takes up two weekends

For us it was a matter of the dates fitting us better, and wanting seven nights, but the 7-night did not fit our calendar nor budget, but a 3+ a 4 worked perfectly!

now we did do a b2b on the fantasy recently, it was more a 40th anniversary present to ourselves/need a long rest/I just retired/what are we going to spend the nest egg on. this year we are booked in with our grown children but i'm thinking we will do the b2b again 2015.

I always do a B2B in Alaska as invariably one week is bad weather; the second cruise gives you a chance to do the things you might miss on one leg.

ummm... have you ever been on a cruise? ;) It's a blast! B2B is just a way to keep the momentum going.

Among many reasons, the ability to return to certain islands without the hassle of waiting until "next time".... which is normally years down the road at a higher cost.

In short, cruises are a less expensive way to vacation, and typically a B2B (pending on the length and cabin choice) is still cheaper than a land based vacation... at least in my own personal experience it is.

We cruised on the Fanatasy last year in March (during the kids' school break) and booked the same for this year while on board. Since then we decided that since it would mean sailing on the same ship (though we LOVED the Fantasy) on the same itinerary we would change it up a bit. We were pretty much committed to a certain week because of the school break and we preferred a longer cruise so... we changed our booking to a B2B on the Magic.

We are really looking forward to a different ship (excited about the changes, especially the Aquaduck and the Avengers Academy!), a smaller ship, two stops at Castaway Cay (our favourite port!), and moving up a level in Castaway club ;)

We have the same stateroom for both cruises so we may leave our things in the room and, from what I understand only need to disembark for a short time before being permitted to re-board. We have also heard that b2b-ers also get to re-board earlier allowing us a brief time on an almost empty ship. While some services will not be available it still seems like it would be pretty cool. I guess I will know more about it in a few weeks :yay:

Cost and longer vacations. Airfare is paid for with the first cruise.

Last year we met a man doing a back to back on the Wonder. 4 night Bahamas, then 5 night Caribbean. He said that their first plan had been to spend a few nights in Miami but the B2B was cheaper.

From a straight cruise fare cost perspective. Is it not cheaper to do a straight seven day vs a 3 & 4 ?

I've found that for the same time periods I've looked at the 3+4 is a little cheaper.

Interesting. So a 3/4 on the Dream would be less than 7 on the Fantasy.

Has any one ever booked their second cruise while onboard the first?

Let's say I do a 3 day Dream, and decide I like it so much that I'm not gonna bother with 4 days at the parks. Assuming there is availability could I book onboard to stay on for an additional 4 days. I'd like to think there'd be some big discounts. I'd also have to take whatever room would be avail.

Not tons cheaper. Just a few dollars. The reason I'd to it is for 2 days on CC. If I wanted other ports I'd do the 7 night.

When we book B2B cruises, we try to get the same cabin. That saves the hassle of having to change cabins.

Did a B2B in Oct 2012 aboard the Fantasy ... Western followed by the Eastern Caribbean ... same cabin. Wanted to do the Eastern on our Anniversary but it fell on the Western so ... It was great though as we love longer cruises ...

If the turn around day is in a US port, typically you will have to disembark for a short time.

In a foreign port, you may or may not be required to disembark.
