Living the Suite Life on the Dream ~ Sept. 1-5, 2013

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just read your trip report and loved it. Thanks for posting! Can I ask how you were able estimate the cost for the upgrade ahead of time?

Hi there! I got a rough of idea of what to expect by reading the following (very long) thread about port upgrades:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3009010

The price will be dependent on how much availability there is, the time of year (peak season or non-peak), and probably other factors that only DCL is aware of! The more categories you are jumping up, the higher the cost will be. So someone who already had a category V concierge room would have paid much less to upgrade to a category T than we did. Still, at the end of the day, we paid less than those people because we got such a great deal when we originally booked.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

loved your review! We are staying in Dream 11020 in July! We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary and my 40th bday. Cannot wait! What kind of snacks were available in the concierge lounge during the day? Did they stock your in room fridge with waters or soda?

Thanks for reading! You will love staying in concierge. It'll be a great way to celebrate your special occasions. If you haven't done so already, make sure both are noted on your reservation. The concierge hosts will also ask if you're celebrating any special occasions while onboard.

The fridge in our room had some bottled water when we arrived, but it was not restocked. This wasn't a big deal, though, as we just grabbed a couple of bottles out of the refrigerators in the lounge every time we passed through. We didn't go in the lounge in the middle of the day much, but the things I remember are little sandwiches, small chilled soups (like gazpacho), appetizer-type food like shrimp, cheese, and mini dessert items. They had the same types of things in the evening. In the morning it was fresh fruit, muesli, and other breakfast-y things. I know there have been some posts on the DIS with great photos of the food in the lounge. If I find a good thread, I'll come back and post a link.

ETA: Here's one link to some photos. I'll post more if I can find them.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your wonderful TR! We will be in 12520 in May and are looking forward to concierge for the first time. Thanks again for your great review, it may be the only thing that gets me through this winter!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The location of your room is fantastic -- you'll love it. You won't regret going concierge. It was amazing! It's been an unusually cold and snowy winter here in the DC area. We have a cruise coming up in April, but it can't get here soon enough for me!

We are in 12520 in October so this trip report has been great. Tdunaway hope you report back as well ;)

You all have great taste! If I could choose any category T, that would be one of my top picks. I loved 12020, but we didn't have the nice view of Castaway Cay. Happy cruising!

...this is one of the best trip reports ever! We are sailing on Magic in concierge and had no idea what to expect. thx!

Thanks for reading! I don't have firsthand knowledge of what concierge is like on the Magic and Wonder, but from what I've read the rooms are amazing! There was a thread on the main DCL board recently that compared the concierge experience between the classic ships and the new ships. If I can find it, I'll come back and add a link.

Have a great cruise!
