Rob, Cass & Kira - "This trip is NOT going to suck!!!" WDW & DCL

Oh Cass, I can just feel the love :cloud9:for this special family day, so so awesome!! Sometimes, having absolutely no plans turn out to be the very best days. Love this!:thumbsup2

Wow, that deck is so empty!!! Dinner time is a great time to go to the pools though. I love sea days too!

Day 9 - Part 4 - Cabana's Dinner, indeedy!

After some showers, it was time for dinner! Nancy & Chuck aren't fond of Formal Night either so they decided to join us in Cabana's that evening.

I was slightly apprehensive of having dinner here just because on our last cruise, we tried Topsiders for dinner (the Disney Magic equivalent of Cabana's) and it SUCKED!!! :crazy2:

The service was TERRIBLE, the food was even worse and it took over an hour to get any food for Kira and I.

However, being a new ship, I was willing to give it a try. Plus, I was prepared to hit up Flo's as a backup if the meal sucked

The thing I loved was that I could eat in a t-shirt and shorts! That is what I am the most comfortable in and so I was excited that I didn't even have to get changed :lmao:

We met C & N as soon as it opened and were seated right away. I was worried about the service too because this is where the new staff come to train before they are allowed to be in the MDR's.

I can't recall our servers names right now (maybe Rob or Nancy will remember) but they were both VERY good! Everything was brought out quickly, drinks were refilled before they were even finished and since the room was mostly empty, it wasn't loud and we could all actually hear what everyone was saying :woohoo:

The menu was very limited (we knew it would be) but we all found something we enjoyed and the food was hot and delicious!

My steak was very good and the baked potato was DELISH!! I asked for extra toppings, which made it even better! ;)

We really enjoyed the company and the casualness of the restaurant. Kira was even able to snuggle up in between Nancy & Chuck (geez, bet ya didn't see that coming :p) It turned out to be my favourite dinner experience of the entire cruise.

It was probably about 8pm when we were all done, which worked out great because Kira was in need of an early bed time for a change. She played around for a bit in the room...

182.jpg

Okay, under our bed could fit 5 large suitcases, several carry-ons AND a 6-year old kid!! Plus, you can see there's still room!!! :rotfl2:

Our nightly turn-down service

183.jpg

184.jpg

I guess this would be a good time to talk about her room host. I feel terrible that I can't remember her name, maybe Rob will remember? :rolleyes1

She was good, quite friendly, did a great job with our room. She always said Hi to us when we walked by or saw her in the hallway.

I had no complaints and gave her excellent feedback on the comment card. :thumbsup2

I grabbed Kira's milk and cookies and she watched cartoons while Rob and I took turns using the internet to check mail and post a few pics on FB.

I think I might have popped into the adult hot tub that evening but it was more like the warm tub and the jets were barely working, so I didn't spend much time in there. It was nice and empty though, just me a one other couple that got there just was I was heading for the pool for a quick dip.

Like I said, it was my favourite day. It was the first truly relaxing day of the entire vacation and we all had so much fun (Kira especially) which always makes the day that much better. :goodvibes

Don't you just love a day like that - no cares in the world - just FUN!
Love the pictures of Kira under the bad - too cute! :hyper:

Just wanted to pop in and say "hi" and say that I am loving your trip report! I read your land and sea one from before too and you have such a cute family :) Can't wait to read more about your adventures!

The only name I can remember was Joel (Jo-el) and I think I remember him being the assistant server, right? :)

You're correct though, the food and the service was amazing and that soup was TO DIE FOR!!!!! :cool1: Didn't we get the chance to order it again one more night during the week too? It was Deeeee lish! :thumbsup2

Awww.... What an awesome day Cass. I wish we had a relaxing day! I think I had every minute of our cruise booked with something or other.:rotfl2: Next cruise for sure... nothing planned... except maybe a mixology class or two oh and of course I'm already planning a cabin crawl...oh and the rain forest room... gotta get that in. :rotfl:

I've never been to Topsiders or Cabanas for dinner before. I just assumed it would be buffet... no:confused3

Awww. I have to say- I love your trip reports. You do such a great job of capturing the trip (and your love for the mouse) through your pictures.

I especially love the Fantasy part- we head there in a little over 4 months for the first time & are so excited. I am not a fan of formal nights either & I love that you just let it go.. I wish we could but hubby likes those dinners! He's not the one dressing up three little girls though so that's probably why! It's a lot of work for me!! :) Maybe I will show him your TR and let him see how great a non-formal Formal night can be!!!

Day 10 - Part 1 - Oh yay, more princesses! :rolleyes2

I was up pretty early this morning. My family was still sleeping (more or less) so I told Rob that I would head down to Cabana's and if they got up now, they could meet me there, otherwise, I would be back soon.

I ran into the whole gang at breakfast (Nancy, Chuck, Mike, Robin, Tommy, Leisha, Walt & Di) and sat with them and enjoyed my breakfast.

However, with my bad eyesight from the Prednisone, I didn't even notice that it was L&T and W&D sitting at the table behind C&N and M&R until about 15 minutes later!! :lmao:

185.jpg

About 15 minutes later, Rob and Kira showed up and they ate too.

186.jpg

187.jpg

188.jpg

Back to the room to chill for a bit and get ready for the day. Kira was not happy about her hair (she has crazy curly hair) and was upset about it because she was about to meet some princesses! Normally she doesn't care too much about it but the Princess Gathering was happening this morning so her sweet Daddy ran down to the shop and bought her a little Aurora kit with a crown and wand. That made it all better HAHAH!

189.jpg

Told ya she had her daddy wrapped around her little finger LOL!

Rob took Kira down about 15 minutes before the meet started and already there was a line up!

It was nice that they had the gathering on every At Sea day but they were ALL very crowded!

191.jpg

I joined them 10 minutes later and saw that Aladdin was meeting the kids on the side, so I asked Rob to take Kira while I held our spot.

192.jpg

Then the princesses made their grand entrance and while they were waiting for the kids to get to them, Belle was visiting the kids in the line, so sweet of her!

193.jpg

Then Aladdin made his way down to all the kids IN the line, so we took another pic. The funny thing is, Kira said something to him about seeing him again but he obviously didn't remember her from like 2.8 minutes ago and Kira whispered to me "He doesn't remember me" LOL!

Which is funny because the princesses at the parks all said something like "Oh I remember you, it's so nice to see you again" when Kira mentioned that it was the second (or third!) time she met her, despite never actually having the same CM twice as the same princess but Aladdin can't remember a kid he actually just met 3 minutes before LOLOL!

194.jpg

More waiting...

195.jpg

Then finally the 4 princesses!

196.jpg

197.jpg

Ariel was awesome, took her time with her and did funny things like pose like Flounder...

198.jpg

199.jpg

Belle was also really great!

200.jpg

201.jpg

And finally Snow, who was so very sweet with her.

202.jpg

I just love this one where Kira and Snow are saying good-bye to each other...

203.jpg

Then we stopped for a few pics at the Queen's chair...

204.jpg

205.jpg

And then the King's chair...

206.jpg

207.jpg

Back to the room to change where she found more little gifties from N&C <3

190.jpg

*Edited to add*

Looks like she got the gifties earlier in the day because she was already wearing the Aurora earrings and ring when she met the princesses! LOL

Well it looks like skipping Formal Night worked out perfectly for you guys. Having that pool area basically to yourselves was definitely worth it and the food you had looks AMAZING. I love seeing how much fun Kira is having. It's so great that after all that time you told her how fun the cruise would be, it totally lived up to the hype! This report is reminding me how bad I want to do a Disney cruise. I need to finally do one!!

I absolutely love Kira's Rapunzel pillow. I already have one myself but not that exact one, so I may need that one too. I'm 23 by the way LOL! :rolleyes1

How sweet of Rob to go get Kira that crown... she looks adorable! That pic of her in the Queen's chair with the Cinderella mosaic behind her is so great. princess:

What a great idea skipping formal night. Looks like you all are having fun. I can't read about Cabanas for dinner. We did it once on the magic but did not stay. We just took the tray back to our room.

It was AWESOME skipping it :cool1: Cabana's is a sit down meal for dinner with limited choices but they do post the menu at the entrance so you can decide before you go :thumbsup2

What a great afternoon/evening! I think it was a good call to skip the MDR!

Jill in CO

I agree Jill :goodvibes It made for some really great memories that night ::yes::

It really does sound like you had a great night :) I love the photos of Kira and Rob on the Aquaduck!

The Fantasy really does look a little better than the Dream, I think I want to do seven nights instead of four next time.

I did a 4-night on the Dream once, it is WAY too short  Heck, after 7-days, I don't want to get off the ship :lmao:

Oh Cass, I can just feel the love :cloud9:for this special family day, so so awesome!! Sometimes, having absolutely no plans turn out to be the very best days. Love this!:thumbsup2

Awww thanks, Jill! Group hug!!!! :grouphug:

Wow, that deck is so empty!!! Dinner time is a great time to go to the pools though. I love sea days too!

Definitely a great time for the pools! I think I could do a cruise with just At Sea days :goodvibes

Don't you just love a day like that - no cares in the world - just FUN!

Yeah, she was pretty silly that day. I guess that's what happens when you have so much fun :goodvibes :rotfl2:

YES! Joel! Pronouced JO-EL! Thank you!!! :worship::worship::worship:

Actually, we had that soup the previous night. It's the potato soup from AP :goodvibes

After our hectic, long week at the parks, we were determined to get some relaxation in, Char :p :cool1:

For dinner, it's a sit down for those who want something less formal. While they ask no swim cover ups, etc, most people were in shorts/tee kind of thing :thumbsup2

Awww. I have to say- I love your trip reports. You do such a great job of capturing the trip (and your love for the mouse) through your pictures.

You should make HIM dress those 3 little cuties :cutie::cutie::cutie:

And just before, give him the option to skip Formal Night :rotfl2: :lmao:

HAHAH, I love your Disney style :thumbsup2 You can never be too young or too old for Disney :lovestruc

Day 10 - Part 2 - Muppets, Pirates and Ducks, oh my!

After the princess meet, we headed back to the cabin where apparently Rob was a little tired because Kira and I stepped out on the verandah for a few minutes and came back in to this...

214.jpg

Rob and Kira were going to go do the Midship Detective Agency thing but that was not happening for Rob so I took Kira down and started the game.

208.jpg

209.jpg

I decided to do the Muppet game since it is only found on the Fantasy and I wanted to check it out for myself.

Along the way, we were distracted by the beautiful ocean views

210.jpg

But we managed to carry on...

211.jpg

She was always WAY ahead of me, which made for some interesting moments during the week when I ran into other parents in similar situations. We just smiled at each other, painfully aware of what the other was going through :lmao:

Dang those long DCL hallways LOL!

212.jpg

After making about 4 or 5 stops on the map, I was DONE! My ankles were hurting so we made our way back to the cabin.

Rob woke up and took over for the rest of the game...

218.jpg

While I did this

213.jpg

And then this..

215.jpg

I got a text saying that they were in line for Captain Hook and Mr Smee and asked if I could meet them with Kira's autograph book.

219.jpg

220.jpg

221.jpg

After the awesome meet with the crazy pirates, Kira asked to go to the club for a bit. While she was gone, I iced my ankles and Rob caught up on work (read cursed his laptop and DCL WiFi LOL!)

She was only at the club for about an hour before we picked her up and went for a little treat.

The nice thing is that our cabin is so close to all the food, it was so easy just to take it back to the room!

216.jpg

217.jpg

And then it was pool time again! I took her up to enjoy all the joys of deck 11 :cool1:

222.jpg

223.jpg

225.jpg

She sure had fun in the Mickey ears :lmao:

And she even made a friend in the hot tub!

226.jpg

Kira and I also did the Aquaduck three times together. I wanted to do it more as the lines were very short but there's a lot of steps up to the top and I could only manage it three times with my sore ankles.

We spent a good hour and a half on the pool deck. I don't recall what Rob was doing but he wasn't with us. Probably eating :goodvibes

He did manage to come find us in the Donald Pool while we were watching High School Musical though!

Day 10 - Part 3 - "Did that really just happen???"

.

.

Kira and I headed back to the room for some showers. I tried putting some cartoons on for her but all day long, this is what was coming up...

.

228.jpg

NADA!

UGH!

Rob called down to GS for suggestions on fixing the TV. They told us how to reset it (I think you had to press down on two buttons at the same time?) and VOILA! It worked! Apparently, it is a common problem!

Kira requested some more chicken strips, so I happy obliged because she would not be joining us for dinner this evening.

After we were all properly coiffed, it was time to drop off Kira at the club. There was no way I was going to take her back to the main dining room so that she could wait 30 minutes for a milk and 60 minutes for food!

Plus, tonight was Pluto's pyjama party, so it worked out perfectly!

Passing the chaos of deck 3 Atrium...

229.jpg

Tonight's dinner was in Royal Court and we were even early!!! That NEVER happens! HAHAHAH!

230.jpg

Everybody strolled in a few minutes later and soon after, Jaime, our head server, showed up to talk to the 4 of us. I can't recall exactly what he said but the jist of it was that someone had spoken to him about the service on the first night and that if there was anything we needed to just let him know. He hinted that he had spoken to our server and assistant server and that service would be MUCH better this evening.

Boy, was he wrong :sad2:

Geez, I almost don't even want to talk about this because it just brings up bad memories but then that wouldn't be fair to just leave you all hanging like that

Our servers came by and asked where Kira was. I didn't say what I really wanted to say, instead I just said "She didn't want to miss Pluto's Pyjama Party in the clubs".

Okay, so let's get this over with...

It all started with the French Onion Soup that the 4 of us ordered.

231.jpg

And here's a few more appetizers...

232.jpg

233.jpg

The soup was BAD! It was REALLY salty! Considering I am someone who LOVES salt and will automatically salt everything before I even taste it because I just know that it won't be salty enough for me, that is saying a LOT!

Not a big deal though, and I wasn't planning on complaining about it. But when Sergio came by and noticed all 4 of us had barely touched our soup, he asked. Rob politely said it was a little too salty for him.

Then Sergio looked at the 3 of us (Chuck, Nancy and I) and asked us why we weren't eating it and we all agreed that it was really salty.

And this is where it got ugly...

Sergio then placed himself at the head of the table, near us and demanded everyone's attention. He proceeded to lecture us about how everything on the cruise was "excellent" and that if we did not enjoy something, it was because of personal taste and NOT because the food is bad.

tired.gif

He then stated that "these four people here" said the soup was too salty and wondered how that can be when Walt, down over at the other end of the table, said it was delicious! He went on the say that obviously the soup IS delicious and clearly, we were wrong.

He was snarky, rude and extremely offensive!

The whole time, I was looking at Nancy, who was across from me, just staring at her with wide eyes thinking to myself "Did he really just say that????"

I was completely shocked and speechless.

I need to rewind just a little bit, back to when we ordered our food. Nancy did not find anything appetizing as an entree so she had asked if she could order off the kids menu. Kira's menu had been sitting right there and she looked at it and thought the spaghetti and meatballs would be good. No problem, Okim said he could bring it for her!

So, it ended up being Sergio who brought her the spaghetti and what happened next shocked me even more than the "everything is good" speech.

First of all, he started speaking to her like she was a child.

"Here you go little miss, I have your spaghetti and meatballs for you, little girl"

"Here, let me cut that for you, little girl"

then he proceed to cut her spaghetti up!!!!!!!!!

237.jpg

Oh, thank the Lord that Nancy is polite and doesn't like to cause a scene because if he had TRIED that with me, I would have stabbed his hands with my fork!!!

Oh My God!!

And from that moment on, he treated her like a child!!! Told her that if she didn't eat every single bite, that she wasn't allowed dessert.

I swear, I don't know if he was being funny, serious or WHAT because it was RIDICULOUS and went way beyond trying to be cute or funny!

He left and she just looked at me and said "Did that really just happen?"

I will let her tell you about wrestling Sergio for her fork....

Nancy was so put off, there was no way she could enjoy the rest of her dinner. I was just stunned and relayed to Rob (who didn't hear any of it) what just happened.

We quietly ate our dinner, kind of shocked and pissed off.

Pre-Sergio Spaghetti and Meatballs...

234.jpg

235.jpg

236.jpg

Nancy ate every single bite, except one single pea. I don't know if she did it to be sarcastic or just because she was so pissed at him LOL!

238.jpg

The food was good, but it was COLD. Chuck's was stone cold and he asked Okim to have the kitchen reheat it.

Mine was slightly warmer than his but I didn't trust myself to speak to our servers anymore. I was afraid that if I opened my mouth, nothing but really bad things would come out and I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

It took about 30 minutes for Chuck to get his steak back and he said it was just slightly warmer than it was originally. He ate his steak while we all ate our desserts!

239.jpg

240.jpg

241.jpg

242.jpg

243.jpg

Again, getting drinks that night was like pulling teeth! It's not like we wanted specialty cocktails or something, we were drinking iced tea and diet coke!!!

Dinner was done and we practically ran out of there. In fact, I think Nancy and Chuck DID run out because one minute they were there and the next, they were gone!

Even Robin asked me what happened to Nancy and Chuck. I don't blame them, I don't think I have ever even HEARD of a dining room experience like that before! I read a LOT of trip reports and although I've heard and experienced some bad service before, that took the CAKE!!!

We went to the club to pick up Kira. This was the first time I had gone in to get her, instead of Rob. They swipe your card, tell you what part of the club/lab she is in, hand you a visitor pass that is attached to a lanyard and then you go find your kid.

When I found her, she was on the floor colouring a pillow case. I told her to finish up and then it was time to go. Looking around, I saw tons of little ones just sitting there doing nothing. Some of them had no markers to colour with and didn't know what to do so they just sat there. I felt terrible for them, so I scrounged up some extra markers and passed them out to them. That made them so happy!

Obviously, a very packed night in the Clubs and there clearly was not enough staff on hand for this. It was fine for maybe 6 years and up for not for under 6 because they need extra help and weren't getting it. There must have been about 40 kids all sitting/laying down on the Magic Play Floor and I counted exactly two counsellors! Not good enough, Disney, not good enough!

Rob snapped this pic of Kira and I walking away from the Club and while I hate pics of my large behind, I do love this one of me and my little girl.

244.jpg

She couldn't wait to show us her masterpiece...

245.jpg

Back to the cabin...

246.jpg

And then finally, cookies (already finished), milk and daddy cuddles...

OMG! I'm fuming for you! Absolutely unacceptable! Please say you guys gave the HS and/or Guest Services a piece of your mind!

Jill in CO

I am speechless Cass. I have no idea how you held back. Just unreal "service". Are you going to compose a letter or what? Oh Sergio, I'd be nervous, very nervous :scared1:

I'm just loving all the pics, Cass. Kira sure looks like she had a lot of fun with those princesses.

I love the one of you and her in the pool the best though.

*****

Now about Sergio. Actually, I thought it was kind of funny for a bit. I know he was horsing around but when he took the fork out of my hand and wanted to feed me, I thought he went a bit too far. I remembered hanging onto my fork for dear life. :lmao::lmao::lmao: As for that final pea on the plate, you know me pretty well....why do YOU think I left it there? Hee hee. :rotfl2:

That was Monday night, right? If so, we ran out to get decent seats for the Packer/Bears game on the jumbotron. We don't miss watching the Packer's at home for anything so we weren't about to miss it on a cruise either. But, in hindsight, we could've skipped that game since the Packers lost their quarterback and we got creamed. :(

Oh my goodness everyone should be glad that I was not with you nor within earshot of your table! I have a habit of as I call it "defending people" who clearly do not have a big mouth such as I do LOL. I would have went off on him and demanded him to get his superior so I could get go off on him too. WOW seriously!

Julie

Cass, I admire you for being able to sit through that dinner. I would have gotten up and left. :furious:

I could not believe the way the server treated you! Our slimy first time server was nowhere near as bad as he was.
As for ordering from the kids menu ..... we have often had someone ordering from the kids menu and the "worst" we got - and it was kind of cute as the person who had ordered it was barely 20 years old, was that she was served her meal on a kids plate, with a smile and a mention that she was the princess of the evening.
I really hope you complained to guest services and cut his tip. This it the moment I would really cut into his tip!

Okay, on a lighter note. I love the pillow case Kira got and the pictures of her walking with you and cuddling with daddy are priceless!

Wow! Sergio really knew how to push your buttons! What crappy service, I'm sorry to had to experience that :(

It's also sad about the kids club too. I wasn't that impressed either and witnessed kids being ignored when I was on the Dream while the CMs stood around chatting.

I so glad it wasn't your first cruise or it might have really put you off trying again. At least there were some good aspects that made your cruise more enjoyable :)
