King size beds

:offtopic:I know this is not specific to just WDW but why do hotels advertise king size beds when they really are not. I have had 3 "real" king size beds and they all are 16 inches wider then what hotels claim are king size. At best what is in the rooms are slightly over-sized queen beds. Las Vegas is the only place that really gives you what you reserved. Ok off the soap box now.

A King size bed is 16" wider than a standard queen.

Twin - 39" x 75"
Double (aka Full) - 54" x 75"
Queen - 60" x 80"
King - 76" x 80"
Cal King - 72" x 84"

So if your king mattress was a full 16" larger than the hotel mattress you were on a standard queen mattress in the hotel.

We have a King at home and just stayed at Riverside in a King. It was a King!

The King we paid for at POP recently was not a real king. And neither was the one at the Holiday Inn we just stayed at. I wonder if it might also be related to the fact that we need to stay in handicapped rooms with roll in showers.

This is confusing to me since at Pop king bedded rooms are no extra cost, but just a request, so you couldn't have "paid" for a king room. Nor would one be guaranteed for your stay.

Good question!

I did a little research and found out there are different Queens and different Kings:
USA Bed and Mattress Dimensions

Twin Bed Size / Single Bed Size 39" 75"
Twin Extra Long Bed Size 39" 80"
Full Bed Size/ Double Bed Size 54" 75"
Queen Bed Size 60" 80"
California Queen Bed Size 60" 84" 4 inches longer than standard Queen
Expanded Queen Bed Size 66" 80" 6 inches wider than standard Queen
Super Queen Bed Size 66" 80" 6 inches wider than standard Queen, also thicker
King Bed Size 76" 80" Standard King
California King Bed Size 72" 84" Not as wide but longer than a standard King
Grand King Bed Size 80" 98"

This is confusing to me since at Pop king bedded rooms are no extra cost, but just a request, so you couldn't have "paid" for a king room. Nor would one be guaranteed for your stay.

When you book a roll in shower room like we need you get a king bed because that is all that fits in there.

I wonder if they don't use one of the bigger queens then.:confused3
