Flying Fish booked--not too excited. Thoughts?

Hi all! I have some great reservations booked for our March trip. The one I keep coming back to is Flying Fish. I've never been, but I've heard it's great, but for some reason all my other reservations excite me more.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? Either some suggestions for other places, or some reasons to keep FF? As background, we are doing split stay, 4 nights at CR and 4 nights at BC. I booked FF for the BC portion, and I have made our dinner plans based on where we will be (ie, Ohana, Cali Grill, BOG on our CR nights, Yachtmsan, Le Cellier, FF for BC nights).

So you want convincing for or against FF? Is that right? Here goes... First course was sublime. Best sushi I've ever had. Entree was "meh". It was a seasoning issue. I'm not sure that I can blame them, though -- I had modified the dish. However, I think it's cooking 101 to know that when you remove bacon from a dish you need to compensate by adding salt, and I firmly believe chefs should be tasting before they let things leave the kitchen, especially when a dish has been modified. If someone in the back of the house had been tasting, there's no way they wouldn't have caught that. But I'll take the fall for it and give them a pass. Bluezoo might be another good option for you since it's accessible via Boardwalk. I thought my meal here was "rather good"; my boyfriend couldn't stop moaning about how amazing "this is the best, most perfectly cooked piece of fish I've ever had in my life". So check out the Bluezoo menu. If it appeals to you more than FF, try that.

We eat at FF each trip. While I agree that Blue Zoo may be better, its better than ALL the other restaurants on your list

And FF is better than MANY of them


FF has one of the best steaks on property and the potato wrapped snapper is an excellent seafood entree.

FF is a must every trip. The calamari or the sushi are excellent apps and the ny strip is one of the best on property.

Do you realize that Chef Mickey's and Cape May Café are not brunch, they are traditional breakfast buffets. No matter how late you eat there it will be breakfast foods, no lunch items on the buffet?
We really enjoyed Flying Fish. It is a nice restaurant. It can be loud, but it was good. But if it is not exciting you, I would keep looking for something that does. Does the Kouzina menu appeal at all?

Quite honestly Flying Fish is better than every other restaurant on your list (except maybe Jiko)

I only try to hit 3 restaurants on property

I have been to all of the sigs as well as Bluezoo and Shula's and think these three are just simply the best

I love the atmosphere at Flying Fish its really fun and whimsical one of my favorite parts of the restaurant is when you go at sunset it leads to some amazing photos then you leave when its dark all of the lights are on there are performers I think its really outstanding and the entire Boardwalk feel leads to an outstanding experience!

The Service has always been very good! One time I ordered an app that I didn't like they took it away after they saw my expression after the first bite on a different occasion they forgot to bring my Mussels as an app as they were bringing Entrees my waitress came over and apologized profusely she then brought them out comped them and gave me a Loose Leaf tea as well on the house

Now to the eats the Mussels are the best on property HANDS DOWN! The calamari is also very very good! The NY Strip is one of the best strips I've ever had its always cooked to perfection just outstanding! The Red Snapper is an outstanding option for non red meat eaters! On a "side" note the Mac and Cheese is literally out of this world holy smokes its good! The best part of the whole meal is probably the Banana Napoleon I love it soooo much!!

So stay with Flying Fish you won't regret it

Like all the Signatures, the menu at FF changes frequently based on what's fresh & available. Some items like the potato-wrapped snapper and the banana napoleon are likely to always be there because they are that restaurant's "signature" dishes, but other than those you have to look at the menus now as guidelines rather than guarantees. So as you check the menu now you want to get excited about the general "feel" of the place rather than trying to pick out your orders now.

That said, we ate there last year and it is near the top of my list of places I want to go back to. We were there in May so I had scallops with a baby green pea risotto and it was wonderful. I loved the calamari too. I wanted to love the bread pudding dessert but I was so full after the rest of the meal (rookie mistake; it was our arrival night dinner and I simply didn't pace myself!) that I only managed a few bites.

We enjoyed our FF meal. From apps to dessert, everything was delicious! The only concern is the tables are so close together. The couple next to us overheard our CM daughter's role goals and joined into our conversation because they were related to a CM too. Their table was less than arm's distance away from ours so it was as if we were dining with them!

When it does come down to which restaurant for seafood, our first choice is bluezoo - their filet is excellent, too. We will go off-site on this next trip and will try Oceanaire at Pointe Orlando.

Thanks! I did the whole 6am, 180 days out thing. This is a special trip for us, so I've been a bit obsessive with the planning

Definitely going to check out the Blue Zoo menu now!

FF is one of our favorite meals every trip. Since you've never been, I think you should try it. I think it's one of the better meals you have planned.
