Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

Just called DVC with a ME question and this doesn't sound right-- we were initially at AKV/Kidani and they sent out luggage tags for ME that say Kidani. Our wait list just cleared for Jambo so our reservation is now switched. DVC changed the info in the system but is saying to still use the Kidani luggage tags. Won't that end up with our luggage going to Kidani? They say no, but this doesn't sound right to me.... :confused3

Do you have the same reservation number? If so, then you should use the tags. They go by the bar code, not what is written on the tags.

Thanks! Yes, same reservation number. So they don't color code them by resort or anything either?

As you've been told, as long as the reservation number remains the same, you're good to go. You can cross off the Kidani and put in Jambo but be careful not to touch that barcode!

They sort of do 'color code' the tags...but the code is based on resort area. Since AKL-Jambo and Kidani are in the same resort area, it all stays the same.

On other travel threads there seems to be concern when your arriving flight to MCO is not the same carrier as the return flight. Seems this causes people to have to hand carry luggage to/from ME buses. I can't fathom why this would be. Something about RAC being unable to check you in and check luggage if return flight is not same carrier as arrival flight. Can anyone clarify?

The issue is only with SW/AT merged flights. Other carriers don't have this issue.

Due to forgetfulness, I booked my ME arrangements last week for an arrival this Sat. I booked exactly 10 days out, but I figured with the holidays I would not receive my luggage tags in time. I was bummed about the prospect of retrieving my own luggage, but it was no one's fault but mine.

So imagine my delight when I found a UPS envelope on my door step containing my ME booklet and luggage tags! Disney really went above and beyond on thi one. I am genuinely impressed!!!

Please help! The ME phone line aren't open yet and I'm in a panic!

Just found out that my son's flight was cancelled out of BDL this morning! Southwest wouldn't rebook him until Wednesday evening (it's Monday morning in the wee hours) and the only chance to get him out today was to drive him to Boston/Logan for a mid day flight WITH a stop in Baltimore. I'm making the hike but I've got some major concerns. He is 21 and has high-functioning Autism, but is travelling to WDW SOLO for the first time ever, and will most likely not be able to figure out the "pick your luggage up and bring it to the ME bus with you" part. He's already hysterical about the change and missing half a park day! He's not familiar with MCO and had very detailed instructions as to how to get from the gate at arrival to ME buses.

I'm fairly sure that ME will be good about letting him take a later shuttle, but what about the yellow tags? Do the bar codes only work if they're scanned from the originally intended airport - BDL - or can we use them when leaving from Boston? HELP!!!!! I have to leave in 4 1/2 hours to drive what will probably be 2 1/2 hours each way with traffic with my son my 4-year-old who also has Autism. Not looking forward to this and I could use some good news to put my mind at ease....

Flights up here sure have been screwed up, haven't they? Logan looked nasty for the last few days.
Anyway...where you leave from makes absolutely no difference in the DME yellow tags. They don't get scanned until they are off the plane in Orlando! So, no worries there. As far as what bus your ds will be on? No problem there either...you aren't assigned a specific bus. You just get to the DME checkin area when you get there...then you are sent to the appropriate bus line for your particular resort.
There is no reason to get worried...everything will work exactly the same as if he were on that plane as originally planned!!

Im traveling to disney by myself. It will be my first time alone. To avoid worrying about liftng my suitcase and getting it off and on the plane ive decided to try the luggage service.Im super nervous i have heard horror stories about people not getting their luggage. As i understand it i slap the luggage tags on my bag and check it.I will see it in my room.I know to pack a carryon with shorts and stuff. Does anyone have any postive stories to help ease my fears?my trip is for march when should i get my me package?

I've used DME twice, flying from London to Orlando. Never had an issue. We got the bus to the resort, had a look around, went to DTD and our cases were in our room waiting when we got back.

I'm sure you'll be fine!

We're using it again this summer, and can't wait.

Leaving tomorrow and just realized I do not have my luggage tags. there is nothing in my packet that resembles an airline routing tag -only souvenir tags with Mickey on them. Is it still possible to give my luggage claim ticket to the cast member at the ME counter in the the airport and they will find my suitcase? Is it worth the risk or should I just spend the time to do it myself? Does anyone have any experience with this? We had planned to carry on a bag with essentials, but do not want to lose our other bag or waste time hunting it down. Thanks!

You can definitely give your claim ticket to the CM at the ME counter. Are you sure though that you're signed up for ME?

Last time we used DME was in 2008 and we had luggage tags (we're in the UK). Now that it's changed and you have to give a description of your bag, we're now wondering if it would be better to collect our bags ourselves.

How effeftive is the new tagless system?

My 8 year old son is flying down with us (DH, DS6, DD3). My parents are going to meet us at our hotel and then my oldest (DS8) was going to go spend the night with them in Daytona and see some of the NASCAR sights so I didn't add him to our hotel reservation. My parents are coming back to Disney the next day and they do have a room booked with his name on their reservation....

Can he be added to Magical Express with us since he isn't in our room? Will they make a bid deal out of since he is "arriving" a day before his reservation starts?

For some reason this never crossed my mind until today and we leave in about 20 days!

This is the first I've heard of not using tags. Is this new for UK visitors now?

Apparently so. When I booked it online it said it wouldn't send a pack out to non-US addresses. They used to, because we got sent tags both times we used it.

Other people have said on here too. Always had great service previously, but now they are relying on descriptions (obviously combined with the name on the luggage), I'm wondering if there's a chance of ending up with the wrong case.

You will also give them your luggage clain tickets. It's done all the time and I've never heard of anyone not getting their bags.

It's been that way for several years.

My husband works for an airline, so he and my daughter are flying stand-by in March. We didn't make DME reservations for them, since we don't know when they will arrive. In the past, we've just retrieved our luggage, then went to DME, explained the situation and got on the bus. But now, I'm reading that maybe they can just give their baggage claim tickets to DME, and not have to get their bags themselves? Even without having prior DME reservations?
