Ready or not we went... and survived! Fantasy Oct 26-Nov 1

I’m sorry….I’m here I’m here! It’s been a whirl wind Christmas. Happy 6th day of Christmas by the way, enjoy your 6 geese a laying. I wasn’t kidding when I had said I hadn’t gone shopping yet and then sickness hit....nothing serious just your run of the mill holiday gastro and a smidge of influenza. Plus I had to work Christmas and Boxing day night shift. So hopefully now I can work on my trippy.

Grand Cayman Part 2

While we were turtling, Nate, Cass and Luke were across the street doing the extreme dolphin swim. Cass had arranged to do this with Sian and Daniel so they all went together. Nate felt the excursion was a little disorganized. The only thing the ticket said was to meet at the pier. Well the pier was mayhem….nobody knew where they were supposed to be.:crazy2: He asked several people before he finally found someone who could direct them to the right spot. Once they were straightened out they got on the shuttle and they were dropped off at the turtle farm first and were told they had to be back for their swim with the dolphins in 45 minutes. They didn’t get to do too much at the turtle farm and felt very rushed. Luke did get into the tank to hold a turtle, which he thought was awesome! Everyone enjoyed the swim but again it seemed very rushed and disorganized. Poor Daniel missed out on a few of the tricks somehow and Nate had to bring it to their attention that Daniel didn’t get his turn with a few of the things. They were running late so he didn’t get to do everything. I’m pretty sure Joh placed a complaint with Disney, it’s not a cheap excursion and then for you not to get what you paid for?! :furious:Once they were finished and paper towel dried off :rotfl:(they forgot towels too) they got on the shuttle to return to the ship. Meanwhile I was back on the ship with Gabe and Evan and we made it back in good time, about an hour before the last tender so I had a shower and then got Gabe in the tub. At about 4:15 I started going out on the balcony watching everyone return. As each minute passed I was starting to get a little nervous but I kept telling myself that they booked though Disney so they shouldn’t leave without them… but I was not convinced. :worried:At 4:40 just as I was about to go into full panic mode they walked in the door. Nate said they got on the very last tender with the crew! Whew! So now on to dinner at the Royal Court.

Here they are tendering.

Here’s Daniel with his turtle

Here's Luke with his turtle

And Cass…I didn’t have any of Sian because…well… I stole these pics from her and she was the photog.

This is my only dolphin pic. You know….the one they charge you a million dollars for. :faint:

On our way to dinner we saw these two and had to get a pic. Stitch is Evan’s fav.

We had our own little room at the Royal Court so we put the kids at one table and the adults enjoyed some big kid company.

The show for tonight was the hypnotist again but this was the family show. Many of us were quite skeptical. Now I totally know that hypnotism is a very useful type of therapy however it is usually performed in a quiet office with no distractions….and they are not getting you to do silly things. Or maybe they are…who knows.:confused3:lmao: So again he asks for volunteers and we happen to notice that Holly is sitting across the isle from us and her husband Scott gets picked. Joh and I were chatting saying we would pick his brain after to see what he thought of the whole thing. Unfortunately the hypnotist gets rid of quite a few volunteers right at the beginning and Scott was one of them. This is why he tries to put the audience under so he can replace the ones he doesn’t feel is “under” enough. I wasn’t going to try again that night though… I was on to Joh’s tricks.;) As with the first show I found a few to be convincing but others seemed to be putting it on but overall I found it entertaining.

Just as a side note, I have to give you a little background about our group… in the summer one of our newbies had asked what an FE was since there was all the talk about it on our fb group. So Joh and I did our best to explain what it was and said that with the groups being so big that we were not participating this time. I had done the FE on our first cruises and thought it was fun but it took a lot of packing room. So with our discussion on our little thread we decided to do a Secret Mickey with our group. We decided that it would be couples and the gift would be in the range of approximately $10. I wrote out the names of everyone and put them in a hat and Cassie (who was not participating) drew the names and sent out private messages to let everyone know who they got. Well that night we returned to our cabin and there was a bag of goodies on our bed and the kids too! Naturally I thought we had an over zealous Secret Mickey and we knew exactly who it was right away…. Wendy! The goodies were in little Halloween bags with Minnie Mouse slippers a little bottle of rum, flashing skull necklaces and Mickey duct tape. (The tape gave it away) The kids got the same minus the rum in their bag. So I asked Cassie if she brought the gift in which she did and I asked a bit more about our Secret Mickey and she replied that it wasn’t our Secret Mickey…. I was a bit confused to say the least.

Here’s a pic of our treat bag….NOT from our Secret Mickey, Wendy.

After the show we asked the boys if they wanted to go to the kids club and again Luke didn’t want to go saying he was too tired. Earlier I had asked Evan if he could watch the boys if they were not into going to the club. He said he would if Lane would (Bobbie and Gerald’s son) so I talked to Bobby about it and she said Lane was on board. Now the only thing is after dinner we hardly ever saw Evan so we told him we would just text him on the wave phone in case we needed him. So we headed back to the cabin with the boys and my parents stopped by for a visit. I sat down on the bed and got a little too comfy… and fell asleep. Great host I am eh? Anyway we missed the show and Cassie returned with Rob to rub it in how great it was. His name was Shawn Farquhar and he was a magician from Canada…. AND he was from our area too! Oh well… C’est la vie. We stayed up to have a few drinks with Rob and called it a day. Tomorrow was Costa Maya day and all ashore wasn’t until 1:00 so we could sleep in. (ya right!):rolleyes2

Next up…..A little rain shmain won’t ruin our day!

following along.

we were on the same cruise!

I remember you from our fb group! Thanks for reading :goodvibes
What an awesome trip report.

Awww thanks so much:blush:... I'm glad you like it.

<sigh> did anybody see where Char went? :surfweb:

:wave2: Hi Janice... I'm here!

I think she's been pretty busy with the family over Christmas and all. Plus, it's her Birthday tomorrow so she's probably stocking up on the booze ;)

Haha... You know me so well! :rotfl: Although I sent NATE to stock up on the booze. ;) I wish you could just hop over from the UK to celebrate with me :dance3: You could almost celebrate New Years twice! :lmao:

Sick or not!! 13 days is too many days without an update!!

Can't say I'm too sad to see 2013 go!! :rotfl2:

Enjoying reading your trip report. We leave on the Fantasy for the Western Caribbean Cruise in 2 1/2 weeks. I am getting really excited.

First off Happy New Year everyone!!!!

A little rain shmain isn’t going to ruin our day!

So we woke up at O stupid O’clock again and the boys were all sleeping. I can’t get over how when we are at home on a weekend the boys are up early wanting our attention and we would rather just pull the covers over our heads and sleep in. On vacation WE are up early and THEY are still sleeping! So we head out to the balcony, which was becoming our morning routine. It was a little foggy and you could feel the moisture in the air but it was still nice and warm. We were leaning over trying to figure out which room was my parents and they happened to be out on their balcony having their coffee.

My lens kept getting fogged over and this shot is not that clear but if you look closely my parents are waving to us from the balcony between the first and second life boat.

Once the boys rolled out of bed we headed for breakfast. We had no plans for the morning before we docked…actually we had no plans for the entire day. On our 2010 cruise, Costa Maya was one of our stops and I have to say it was one of our favourite ports ever. Back then we didn’t make any plans either we just walked over to the transportation area and bought an all inclusive pass at a beach bar and took a bus to the beach. It was only $2 per person for the bus and the pass was $25. It was such a great day and we had an hour long massage on the beach for $20. I really had no idea what we were going to do that day since it’s a different experience with kids and I didn’t think there would be too many options since unlimited booze would not appeal to the kids. :rotfl:Anyway we walked around the ship and decided to play shuffle board. We were not that good at it and Gabe was getting a little miserable again. He has that bit of competitive nature from his momma that if he is not good at something he’s not having fun. I still have fun but I like to do like to win!;) We have to work on sportsmanship with Gabe.

While we were in that area they were sprucing up the ship and Luke came across this sign and leaned in to read it lol. :lmao:

It was so funny…. I think he thought he was going to be in big trouble until dad took out the phone to take a pic.

We got a text from Rob and Jen as we had made plans to play some cards so we met up with them on deck 3 at the booths by Bon Voyage lounge. After we played a few hands of Bohnanza we decided to go and have some lunch and then all of us were going to venture into Costa Maya. Rob and Jen had no plans either so we were all just going to wing it. We went up to Cabanas for our first time for lunch and discussed ideas of what to do in port. While we were dining it started to rain. I didn’t really feel up to going into port when we had no plans to get soaked. Soooo I thought what better time to go to the spa and use our pass to the Rainforest room from Wendy and Joh and fam. We put the boys in the kids club and headed to the Spa. It was not very busy being a port day so that was perfect! We were given a tour and we were given a Mickey band thingy that would get us into the Rainforest room. The lockers and showers in the spa are free to use for anyone 18 years old and over. They even have a small sauna in the locker room! I was really looking forward to lounging in the heated mosaic loungers. I had a tour of the spa on our first cruise on the Magic and I think they had 4 of these chairs, on the Fantasy they have 10. There were 2 other people in the room when we entered and we picked our chairs. They are sooo heavenly!:cloud9: It was funny but one of the other ladies was pretty comfortable and started to snore. Nate and I looked at each other and were smiling and silently giggling to ourselves. Well it didn’t take long before Nate was joining the chorus lol.:rotfl2: After the lounge chairs we headed out to the hot tub until we were nice and pruney. On to the different Saunas and hot rooms. They had 3 different saunas or hot rooms and 4 different showers. They had the Laconium, which was a dry sauna, the Caldarium which was a steam room and the Haman which was a steam bath. The showers were Water Fun, Tropical Thunder, Raiforest and Cool Mist Experience. All the showers had 3 different settings and sounds to go with it. Nate and I were like kids on an elevator going from shower to shower pushing all the buttons. I liked the Laconium the best of the saunas but I couldn’t tolerate them for more than a few minutes. The Caldarium you really need to take a few towels in to sit on or you will burn your butt! I didn’t go into the Haman but Nate popped his head in to check it out. It was so much fun and relaxing that I don’t think I will go on another Disney cruise without buying a Rainforest pass.

Here’s the locker and shower room that is free for all guests to use.

This is still in the locker room and you can see the sauna here too.

This was inside the Rainforest room in front of the wall fountain.

My FAVOURITE!

The shower and sauna area

We left the spa feeling pretty good and relaxed and now the sun was shining! Nate and I had decided to just get off the ship and walk around the touristy area. We stopped for a beer before heading back on the ship. We picked up the boys and got ready for supper at Animators… my fav!

We mixed up the seating again at dinner…our servers must have just LOVED us lol. I just loved dinner time because we all got together and sometimes it would be the first time we would see them that day! When we got to the table the servers gave us a place mat and a marker to draw on. I almost didn’t do it because I was too busy socializing. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone since I didn’t know about it… but make sure you do your drawing!

After dinner we stopped and got some Character pics… It was easier with little Logan since he occupied Luke and he forgot that he should be upset about standing in a line.

While we were getting pics and milling around the lobby I bumped into Holly and Scott. This was actually the first time I officially met Scott and I was telling him how disappointed I was that he was out of the show early on the night before with the hypnotist because we wanted to see what his thoughts were. He thought it was all fake and didn’t work at all for him. After we finished chatting we headed to the Walt Disney Theater to watch Wishes. I really liked it and watched most of it but I found every night once I would finally get to sit.. in a comfy chair.. in the dark I would almost ALWAYS nod off during the show. Again weird since I’m a night owl and I am never sleepy before midnight. It was all those darn early mornings! Once out of the show and walking around I rallied. We had noticed that in the tube they were having an 80’s trivia, which everyone in our group was talking about. I LOVE the 80’s and Jen is apparently an 80’s trivia superstar. Cassie had offered to watch the boys for us so we could enjoy some of the adult entertainment. Anyway we got there early, ordered a few drinks and texted our friends to let them know where we were sitting. Well everyone went to bed early that night and Nate and I were on our own. We did quite well with just the two of us…I think we got 19 right out of 25. We were pretty tired when we got back and we had a big day the next day... Nachi Cocom!

Up next…. Our Nachi Cocom miracle

Fun update! Love the Wet Paint sign!!:lmao:

Im assuming since you're smiling in that bathrobe that you didn't go for the "colon cleansing" at the spa. :rotfl2: (sorry, couldn't resist):duck:

I am finally caught up :goodvibes

Great updates Char :thumbsup2

Haven't tried the Spa in 6 cruises, maybe one day :rolleyes2

Sounds like Nate did well on the cruise or are you just glazing over that part? :rolleyes1

Oh Cass... you totally should! :cloud9:

Nate did REALLY well other than I think it was the 2nd night that he felt poorly and decided to stay in the stateroom. He felt fatigued most days and other than myself knowing that he wasn't himself I wouldn't think other people could tell. He's still is not there yet...it's kinda like two steps forward 1 step back. I'm sure YOU know all about that!

Our Nachi Cocom miracle

I would have to say that this was the most significant day of our trip and the one that I talk about the most. On this day we were heading to Nachi Cocom, which we booked privately and we went along with my parents, Joh and family and Jen and little Logan. Rob was going diving with Bobbie and Gerald that day so we were happy to have them come hang out with us. This was my 3rd visit to Cozumel and every trip, there was a group going to Nachi but I always had other plans. The first time I went on the dolphin swim with my Evan and the second time we went to Paradise beach with friends. I had heard so many great things about Nachi Cocom so I was really excited about it. Nachi only allows 100 people per day so it never feels crowded and since it’s a private resort you don’t have people always trying to sell you their wares. I was really looking forward to this day! We all met at our cabin so we could set out together to get transportation. This time we were not going to forget our towels! I seemed to remember on past cruises that you got them once you were off the ship right on the pier but I guess I remembered wrong. So Nate and I ran back in feeling rather salmon like with all the people leaving the ship and went up to the pool deck to grab 10 towels. That was a little set back but on we went to find the taxi area. We had to do a lot of negotiating because we were with 10 and we couldn’t get a van all together at a reasonable price. They have a nice cab area that has the prices listed for the different beaches and destinations. The cabs themselves looked alright from the outside but they were dirty and sketchy on the inside and the seats were a little rocky and some seat belts were missing. So if you’re a safety person, inspect your vehicle first lol. I’m more of a praying person and we made it ok. It was about a 20 – 30 minute drive to Nachi and ended up being $40 per way with tip. Not bad… ended up being less than $10 per person.

We arrived at Nachi and it was sooo beautiful!:cloud9: Joh and family were already there and checked in. We got our wrist bands, purple for adults and orange for kids. Sian promptly informed Evan that since he had a purple wrist band he could get alcoholic drinks lol. Evan said he didn’t intend to drink because he tried beer before and didn’t like it and he didn’t like the idea of being drunk. What a good boy! :thumbsup2 So Sian took us over to where her mom and dad were and it was a perfect spot too! We were right in front of the open air structure where you eat and just off to the side we had the washrooms and the other side the pool. It was a beautiful hot day and the kids made their way straight to the water. We ordered a drink right off and I let Joh and Sian pick my drink and I think it was a pina colada. It was around 11 at this time AND since I was up 3 hours before I would regularly get up it was like having a drink at 2 in the afternoon. ;)That’s my way of justifying it anyway PLUS I felt I had to get my money’s worth with the all inclusive.

Nachi was as nice as everything I had read about in the reviews. We hung out beach side at first and just enjoyed the company along with the view. The day seemed to go by sooo fast. Before we knew it, it was time to eat. I was really not all that hungry and other than the nachos with the guacamole I can’t remember what I ordered…It was a chicken something I know that much. The afternoon we would swim in the ocean and the kids would go back and forth between the ocean and the pool. Nate and I would take turns walking over to the pool just to lay eyes on the kids to make sure there was no sibling drama that would impede other visitors enjoyment of the pool. While I was standing pool side I heard a male voice yelling “Hey Canada!... hey Canada!” At first I was confused because I always have at least one Canada shirt that I bring but I wasn’t wearing it. I looked around trying to find where the voice was coming from and saw Holly’s husband Scott at the swim up bar with his brother in-law. I started laughing when I realized it was him and he said” Sorry… I just forgot your name!” It was funny because I was so confused thinking how could anyone KNOW by LOOKING at me that I was Canadian! :confused3So I talked with Scott for a bit and he said Holly was down further on the beach so I went on a hunt for her. I told her about my encounter with her husband, which she thought was hilarious. So from then on when either of them would see me they would yell “Hey Canada!” I’m not sure if they really DO know my name. And likewise since they are from Ohio we would yell “Ohio!” cuz yelling “Hey United States!” just doesn’t sound as cool and everyone would think I was talking to them. :lmao:

Here are some pics of that day.

So it was getting to the time where we had to pack up and head out. I went to the restroom to get changed into some dry clothes and brought the backpack with all our belongings in it. I came back to the beach area where we had parked for the day and Evan was looking everywhere saying that he couldn’t find his shirt or his shoes anywhere. By this time the beach was pretty secluded and actually my parents Jen and Joh and family had left already. So I went on a quest with Evan to find the shoes and shirt. We went to the pool area and to where we ate our lunch but no shirt or shoes. I finally found them on a chair where we first entered and were getting our bands. I guess he was pretty anxious to get in the water! So by now Nate had fished the boys out of the pool and was looking to help them into their clothes and was going through the bag. Nate then says, “hey hon, where’s the money?” which I replied that it was in the bag. He looked a little concerned and said “no it’s not.” So I’m not worried at this point, knowing how my family “looks” for things. I casually said “look again it IS in there, I just saw it when I was getting changed.” We put the money in a huge ziplock bag because we couldn’t find our smaller ones so it couldn’t be that hard to find. We had about $100 in it. At this point I’m helping the boys get their stuff on. Nate had the bag on the table with the contents emptied and said “really it’s NOT in here!” Now I’m slightly concerned thinking, did it fall out when I was getting changed? So I quickly went to the bathroom… by this time only 10 minutes had passed since I got changed. It was not in the stall where I got changed so I was looking for the cleaning lady that was in the bathroom at the time I was in there but I didn’t see her anywhere. I went back to the beach area where I had left the backpack but it was totally cleared out. By this time the staff were helping us look around and saying that there was no one on the beach when I had left the bag unattended for the few short minutes while I helped Evan look for his shirt and shoes. So we were at the table with all our belongings out on the table and now Nate informs me that not only is the money gone but his ID, watch and his ship card as well as Evan’s. So now I’m worried and Luke starts crying saying that his daddy was going to have to stay in Mexico. Gabe was getting mad at Luke for crying and yelling at him saying “NO HE”S NOT! STOP CRYING” and it started to get physical and I had to separate them in the middle of our crisis. So I was being optimistic and went through it myself taking each article of clothing and shaking it out and checking in the pockets and shook out the bag…. nope it was gone! So now I’m thinking time is ticking and I don’t want to end up having to take up residence in Mexico… It’s nice place and all but I don’t speak Spanish! So now we had to decide to just cut our losses’ and find a way to get back to the ship. Miraculously Cassie had exactly $40 to get us back to the ship! Now on the very looong trip back the ship reality set in… Nates ID was gone and we were going to have to explain this to the port authorities. This wasn’t a huge concern since I still had my ID and I could always get back on the ship and grab his passport and bring it out to him. Even with his ID they would still have to confirm that Nate and Evan were actually on the ship. Other thoughts were swirling around in my head and all I could imagine was a Mexican Nathan walking around. It hadn’t been that long since we saw the movie Identity Thief and now that comedy was haunting me. Suddenly I thought maybe THIS is why we were stricken with such bad luck before the cruise!? I did have a feeling that God was giving us hints that we shouldn’t go and we were just being stubborn and we would joke that maybe the ship was going to sink or there would be some disaster. THIS was OUR disaster!

We got to the port and explained to the authorities that we had been robbed and that Nate did not have his ID or his or Evan’s ship card. They took his name down and room number and radioed someone then they had to physically go to the ship. It seemed like a lifetime while we waited but I was relieved to be there. I knew that they were not going to deny him entry, which of course they didn’t. So we walked the very long walk to the ship and I am totally bummed thinking all my scary thoughts and I said a very heartfelt prayer that went kinda like this. Ok God… I know you are all powerful and could MAKE that ID reappear. That would be really great if you could do that for us… but if that’s not what’s meant to happen, let that money bless whoever but could you get them to just throw that ID away in the garbage. Thanks.

So we get to the ship ready to explain, and the cast members are waiting for us smiling saying yes Nathan you are fine to go through. I felt relieved just to be back on the ship. We would deal with whatever we needed to later when we got home... there was nothing more we could do about it now. Nate went with Evan straight to the guest service desk to get replacement cards and Cassie and I took the boys to the room. I opened the bag to empty it out and removed the first item and guess what was there staring me right in the face! You guessed it… the ID, watch, money and ship cards!!! :eek:The funny thing is that the items were never even IN the Ziplock bag together, it was just the money….and for them to be all together in a nice little bundle for me… I was just stunned and overwhelmed with joy! :woohoo:I must have said a hundred thank yous to the Big Guy as I ran down the stairs to let Nate know and tell him he didn’t need a new card. I got there just as he was explaining the story. He could hardly believe it himself! And he kept saying and the ID…and the watch…and the money… everything?? Yep yep and YEP! I don’t know why God chose to perform this little miracle for us… maybe just for me to share it with you all… I don’t know but I must say it was pretty cool. A few days later my dad says to me “What do you think REALLY happened to the stuff?” I was like “Hellooo… I asked and I received!” It IS a hard thing to wrap your head around.

Once we were home I emailed Nachi to let them know because of course they were really upset about this happening at their establishment and I certainly didn’t want to lay suspicion on anyone. I also felt horrible that I wasn’t able to leave a tip so I sent it via paypal. We’ve been home 2 months today and still as I write this story it gives me a feeling of elation! Wow… now the rest of my trip report is going to seem boring. :surfweb:I should have saved it for last!

Next up.... Pirate Night!pirate:

There was not a whole lot of activities if that's what your looking for. My boys were mostly occupied by swimming and building sand castles. It's a beautiful beach day that's for sure.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for reading :thumbsup2
