Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

I missed Christmas completely.... so a very late Merry Christmas to all!!

We chilled during the day, and had 'Ohana for dinner. Did some presents, and my aunt had sent homemade cookies and a bunch of Sarris candy... so it felt like home :wizard:

I am, however, right on time to say that I wish all RC'ers a very Happy, Safe, Blessed, Exciting New Year!!

Tonight we have reservations at Kona and will watch Fantasy in the Sky from the Poly Beach. popcorn::

Still cruising in early May on the Magic, and currently looking at a 7 day on the Fantasy in November..... but I'll probably cha cha cha change it a million times.

It's crazy slow today, so I'm hoping to catch up on the changes from the last month :)

Hi Deena! I am so jealous of your being able to pop over the the Poly for dinners! How awesome. BTW what date are you looking at cruising in Nov? Just wondering. :rolleyes1

HI ALL! New to this thread. We are booked currently for May 2-12 at WL. We have moved our trip and resort about 5 times so this sounds like a great place to be. I look forward to planning my vacation with all of you!

Hubby and I are in the preliminary stages of planning our next adventure Nov 2 -7.

Nov 2 and 3rd we were contemplating staying at an Epcot resort and go to the F and W festival. We would arrive later in the day on Nov 2, not visit a park and spend Nov 3rd in Epcot.

Then switch resorts to AKL CL. Not sure if we should do two packages if offered (2 day stay has been the minium for dining) in recent years correct?

Also, I am not set in stone with an Epcot area resort, as my dream is a Theme Park view on any monorail deluxe except CR. I think WL is also out of the running, though I would also love to stay there...:rotfl: I have made reservations at WL before, but we always end up deciding to change them and stay at another resort.

It will be nice to get all the honest opinions and tips on changing resorts etc. AKL part of the trip is set in stone though. I was wondering if it would be better to book the package part of the trip (AKL CL) first part of the trip and get tickets for the entire length of stay as it is so cheap to add on. Since we plan to munch at the F/W, with up until midnight of check out day to use the snack credits and maybe save a counter service for the evening as it will be one of our last nights in Orlando. Please help me maximize my stay and help me indulge my dream.

Any comments on the Poly recently?

Kelly

We are normally pretty automatic with our resort given that we've tried several and have our favorites. However, going at Easter and given the sky-high rates, I'm now in a dilemma.

First I thought we'll go to BC CL as we love celebrating our girls' bday there. However, given the upcoming work to be done on the CL floor and lounge there (which is does badly need....), and that we had such a tremendous stay at Poly CL TPV over the 4th of July, we thought we need to go back to Poly. I was all set to book it until I saw the going rate is.....ready for this? $1,200 per night!! So forget that one. Even with a AAA discount, it will still be over $1,000 per night. And having experienced TPV CL, it's too hard to book a regular room.

So then I thought maybe we won't even bother with deluxe CL given the horrendous rates. So I priced out POFQ and researched it to death, showed my DD's and we were all set to book. Then DH steps in and says he doesn't think it would be a good choice for us....:scratchin Ok.... back to the drawing board we go.

I started to research AoA family suites -- love how the suites look and my DD's would love them! But...no slide, no restaurant, hmmmm..... Not sold on it.

Then I turned to AKL CL and tried so hard to read the AKL thread but just couldn't absorb the info and became highly confused:crazy2:. I had to keep scrolling out of the thread to be sure it was really the info thread. In any event, I think I've scratched that one too given the room size and that the lounge is on a different floor than the CL rooms. We really didn't like the WL room size much, though we adjusted to it, but it sure is hard to adapt after staying in a newly refurbed huge Poly room;).

So where did I end up? Nowhere, really. Going to give it a week and see if any deals pop up and go from there.

A little background... I can't ever decide where to stay. ;)

Our first time onsite we stayed at Pop, after changing from POFQ. The next time we stayed at POR after changing from BC. We have stayed at the cabins. I liked those, but then again it was for 2 nights and we had a golf cart.

So this trip>>(March) myself, dh, ds and youngest dd are going down on a Friday. Oldest DD and her boyfriend are joining us that Monday. We will be staying for 7 days. That's where the fun begins. I don't know where to stay. Another thing :crazy2: my husband does not enjoy Disney food. He want to stay somewhere that has a microwave or something. The DVC rentals seem too high. He can stand the food for a few days, so that is why I thought we could try WL for a few nights, but I don't know... So in conclusion HELLO... I so belong here. :)

Just wanted to say hi  and welcome to the new RCers!! There is a great group of ladies here waiting to help and support you in your changes!!;)

Thank you!!! Glad to be part of a board where changing my mind doesn't seem bad. :)

:dance3: pixiedust: Wishing a Happy & Healthy 2014 to all...pixiedust: :dance3:

Just popping in for a quick group hug :grouphug: whilst filling out my spreadsheet. :thumbsup2 Gotta go collect the packing cubes. With the holidays and my mother visiting (and some pre-visit hijinks I needed to sort out involving having to get their phone number changed due to scam artists :headache: ), this trip has totally snuck up on me. :faint:

This'll be our last trip until 2015 unless something really crazy happens. Not too sad about it (until I get on the Magical Depress, I bet) but there's just too much we need to do with the house (painting, windows) and other locales to visit (U.K.). Of course, I'll be more than happy to bide my time with you fabulous ladies.

Lots of love and happy wishes for all of you and your families.

Missing our Sarah.

Go down on a Friday night and stay at POFQ or POR royal room until Sunday night. Then switch to AOA, because DD and her BF will be joining us on Monday. I really want to try and experience all the Disney resorts if possible. Might never happen, but I have a nice start for just starting last year. :)

I had considered the ASMu, but it just doesn't look as nice as AOA. The biggest thing is that everyone is happy. My family can be very picky about hotels. ;)

How did I not know about a trip soon?!?! When?!?! I need to pay better attention. :confused3

:welcome: I know you said the AKL was set in stone, but I just had to say how much we loved it there. Out of all of our stays, it was the one resort we made sure to have down time to spend relaxing at the resort.

:welcome: Have you thought about renting DVC points? You might be able to find a better deal doing that.

I'm truly jealous of you being able to pop over to the Poly for dinner at 'Ohana whenever you want, especially the bread pudding part:love:

I'm glad y'all were able to find a solution. I'm lucky in that I am the only super picky one about hotels. I would love to stay at the AoA suites some time. They just look so fun!!

Well the only thing that has gone on around here, is the DH has nixed my idea for our 20th wedding anniversary. I found a perfect guided tour of Europe that started in London and ended in Rome. The DH said, that until the kids are both 18, we're not doing any vacation that doesn't include them. Since the guided tour is about $2,500 a person plus roughly $1,500 per person in airfare, that make that trip out of the budget. If we don't change our National Park trip this Summer to going to see my sister, we may do it for our 20th wedding anniversary in 2015. It might actually be kind of cool to be in the capital for July 4th.

Wookie: :wave2: That Europe vacation is on our bucket list for when our DD's are older like your boys too! Great idea. I went in 2000 with a girlfriend to Europe on a tour and it was amazing. Too bad I drank too much and missed much of the sights...but I cannot wait to do Europe with DH who has never been and the girls.

I like the sounds of your split! I agree, we looked at ASMu once and it didn't appeal as much as AOA. It looks like so much fun there.:thumbsup2

Just asking....we may or may not be eyeballing a November Fantasy cruise. Darn WDW parade on Christmas day...got us good!:rolleyes2:rotfl:

I have only been out of the US once. When I was a kid, we walked across the boarder, from Brownsville, TX. We went to some kind of open market place and I hated it. Honestly, it's probably why I hate crowds, especially in smaller spaces.

If you ever make it to Ontario....call me!:goodvibes

happy new years y'all!!!!

ETA...ok, this is odd. I originally typed this in all caps, using caps lock. When I went to preview it, it was all lower case. I went back and changed it to all caps. When I previewed it, it had changed back to all lower case.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
Quick scan to try to catch up before bed (teething and the fact eldest is 6 going on 16 these last few weeks is just sucking all my energy!)

:cheer2:WELCOME to all the new faces:cheer2:

pixiedust: to those at the magic or in final countdown mode

 to anyone who has made an awesome change... I can't believe I have held on to my rezzie this long! ((of course I have made a call or seven to WTC to touch base... you know how it goes. ;) )

Two weeks until surgery and then I'll be around a ton (I'm a klutz on one good and one mediocre hip... throw crutches into it and I'm a danger to myself and all others!) DH got me a Kindle Fire for Christmas for ease of surfing (really it's so I don't drain his laptop) but I'm geared up for some number crunching and ADR narrowing!

FUNNY STORY: I was visiting my folks over the holidays and the house line rang. Caller ID showed a (407) number. I immediately got riled up - they are 'eh' about Disney, why is someone from Orlando calling THEM???
My mom pats my head and says: "Sweetie, first, you need help. Second, it's just Hilton calling about new GVC opportunities. Take a breath, the mouse isn't cheating on you."
DH's new joke is "You know you're obsessed with Disney when you're checking your family's caller ID for numbers from Orlando"

:grouphug: and hope to FINALLY be back around more in the next week or so! Keep on ch-ch-changing and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
