Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

Speaking of construction...anyone know anything about a CBR refurb in the works??

It's supposed to be next April or May I think? I believe it's going to have queen beds and new furnishings. Sadly we're going in Feb so won't benefit from it :(

The scoop I got was the Poly will be in full construction mode, and it will be noticeable resort wide, so I imagine more intrusive than the GF construction was. I did hear that so far the date to really "start" the construction is in February...I hope that at least the GCH will be open but honestly 6 months..we just have to watch the updates I suppose. :faint: I changed to Beach Club CL, I just can't listen to DH complain about all the work. I know BC is getting a re-do but it won't be in full swing..and it's all the rooms not the exterior

I HATE CONSTRUCTION

Selfishly I'm sad to hear :sad1: no Dole Whips with you at Capt Cooks  we do love both BC & yC. We stayed YC last August.

HUGS to all of us who had the pleasure of meeting her in person a:grouphug:nd knowing her through the Dis...what a special lady.

I am a changer..you never know where I'll be Sue :rotfl: BUT remember I am never too far away to meet up for a Dole Whip:flower3:

Sorry I've been AWOL! Running around with family/friends/life!

Hope everyone had a magical holiday season, a fantastic final week of 2013, and keep on ch-ch-changing!!!

Hello RCers,
Hope you're having a nice relaxing weekend.

Wookie-I love Estes Park, too. When I was growing up, we didn't take vacations very often. My best memory of one of those rare times away was in Estes Park. The little cabins we stayed in are still there. :goodvibes

Pas-As you know, I usually agree with RC's to Epcot resorts.

Remembering our Sarah, always. :goodvibes

My family started going to Estes Park in the Summer when I was in middle or high school. I am trying really hard to convince the DH to stay at The Stanley, but so far it's not working. Every time I bring it up, he does he finger like the little boy did in the movie The Shinning and says "red rum" over and over until I stop talking about it. Since we are trying to go to as many National Parks as we can this trip, we will probably only have two nights in Estes Park. That way we have at least one full day in Rocky Mountain NP.

We used to camp at Moraine Valley campground in the NP every other summer. We'd alternate with trips to FL during Spring Break or Christmas Break usually. Always wanted to stay in a cabin on the Big Thompson River though. :-)

It seems like just yesterday we were wishing all of you December trip go-ers safe travels and now it's almost the new year!!!

I'm not ready to give up Christmas yet so I'm gonna ask a question. What Disney-themed gifts did you GIVE or RECEIVE for Christmas?

I'll go first:
We gave MIL the large duffel Vera Bradley in the black Mickey print. My nephew got Sulley boots, a personalized Minnie watch was for my niece. Youngest dd got tons of Minnie accessories in her stocking - watch, ponytail holders, socks. My Ds. Got muppet vinyls in his stocking.

What about you guys?

No Disney gifts, but we hung up our new 2013 Wdw ornament on the tree that we bought during our August trip. Each year we buy a new ornament at the MK Christmas shop.:santa: this years was Dumbo!

If I can't convince him to stay at The Stanley, I want to rent a cabin. I just know I don't want to stay at a motel. I want to be able to sit on a balcony, or a cabin porch, and just be in the mountains (if that makes sense). I haven't been to Estes Park since the Summer after my Senior year in high school, and I just need to get back.

I think the only thing Disney I got this year, was a pair of Christmas Mickey Mouse socks in my stocking.

Well, I took time away from my Supernatural marathon to watch the Cowboy game. Which ended up like I thought it would. Now the DH and I are going to watch some more of season 2 of An Idiot Abroad before heading to bed.

Today was one of those hard days to be a mom. David took the boys to Game Stop to use some Christmas money. Joey texted me and said that his dad told him I said that couldn't have GTA 5. I hadn't said that, but if their dad said no, I agree with him. (I never wanted them playing any GTA game anyway.) After our 16 yr old threw what sounded like a two year old tantrum, which he is never that disrespectful, they came home with the game. After reading up on it, and watching some videos, it will go back to Game Stop tomorrow. If the 16 yr old keeps acting like a two year old about me returning it, the money will go to a local women's shelter instead of back to the 16 yr old.

I'll work tomorrow, but then I'll have Tuesday off. I'm going to watch Frozen with my sister and just hang out with her. She leaves on Friday and won't come back until she flies home to move all their stuff to VA.

As I was typing this, my DH came into the room, yelling at me to "come help". The garage frig is in "defrost failure" and we had to move stuff out of it. Luckily, I live with two appliance repair men.

HI ALL! New to this thread. We are booked currently for May 2-12 at WL. We have moved our trip and resort about 5 times so this sounds like a great place to be. I look forward to planning my vacation with all of you!

You are definitely in the right place then!

As for Disney gifts...the kids got a few more Infinity figures, Planes and Monsters University on Blu Ray, and DD got a set of small princess dolls, as well as Merida toddler doll and horse. DS got 2 Austin and Ally CDs as well. But that reminds me...I need to order the Mickey Mouse towels for the kids bathroom still!

Planning to take DS or both kids to see Frozen this week. Not sure if DD would sit through a movie or not...maybe with popcorn? Lol

Welcome!!! :welcome:

IMHO, you should just keep WL! It's the best!! :goodvibes

What's your travel party like?

My girls got the Wii U for Christmas, along with Disney Infinity....we are still trying to figure the game out a bit. So cute though, is that Santa got DH the Jack Skellington figurine (his favorite) and he was sooooo excited to play with it!! :rotfl2:

They also got Monsters University, which I still need to watch, never got a chance when it was in the theaters.

Speaking of which, FROZEN is absolutely wonderful!!!! The soundtrack is amazing, we can't stop singing it and actually purchased it (which I hardly ever do.....I do have Beauty and the beast and little mermaid soundtracks from back in the day) :goodvibes

The story in Frozen is great and the animation is awesome. DD9 has recently taken a big interest in animation and is most looking forward to doing the animation class on our next trip!

Speaking of which, still at GF, and content. It has been almost a month since our last change and I have no urge to! A Christmas miracle, I tell ya! :rotfl:

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!! :goodvibes

I love the WL. In fact, I'm upgrading my girls only trip from the Pop Century to the WL.

Hubby and I are in the preliminary stages of planning our next adventure Nov 2 -7.

Nov 2 and 3rd we were contemplating staying at an Epcot resort and go to the F and W festival. We would arrive later in the day on Nov 2, not visit a park and spend Nov 3rd in Epcot.

Then switch resorts to AKL CL. Not sure if we should do two packages if offered (2 day stay has been the minium for dining) in recent years correct?

Also, I am not set in stone with an Epcot area resort, as my dream is a Theme Park view on any monorail deluxe except CR. I think WL is also out of the running, though I would also love to stay there...:rotfl: I have made reservations at WL before, but we always end up deciding to change them and stay at another resort.

It will be nice to get all the honest opinions and tips on changing resorts etc. AKL part of the trip is set in stone though. I was wondering if it would be better to book the package part of the trip (AKL CL) first part of the trip and get tickets for the entire length of stay as it is so cheap to add on. Since we plan to munch at the F/W, with up until midnight of check out day to use the snack credits and maybe save a counter service for the evening as it will be one of our last nights in Orlando. Please help me maximize my stay and help me indulge my dream.

Any comments on the Poly recently?

Kelly

I'm already starting to look and price up our 2015 trip. I love the look of the AOA Lion King rooms, but it's so expensive! We'll be three adults which makes it really expensive, even though we're only going to do a few nights onsite. I'm also thinking of Pop, POR and maybe even CBR depending on how much we like the resort after staying there.

We are normally pretty automatic with our resort given that we've tried several and have our favorites. However, going at Easter and given the sky-high rates, I'm now in a dilemma.

First I thought we'll go to BC CL as we love celebrating our girls' bday there. However, given the upcoming work to be done on the CL floor and lounge there (which is does badly need....), and that we had such a tremendous stay at Poly CL TPV over the 4th of July, we thought we need to go back to Poly. I was all set to book it until I saw the going rate is.....ready for this? $1,200 per night!! So forget that one. Even with a AAA discount, it will still be over $1,000 per night. And having experienced TPV CL, it's too hard to book a regular room.

So then I thought maybe we won't even bother with deluxe CL given the horrendous rates. So I priced out POFQ and researched it to death, showed my DD's and we were all set to book. Then DH steps in and says he doesn't think it would be a good choice for us....:scratchin Ok.... back to the drawing board we go.

I started to research AoA family suites -- love how the suites look and my DD's would love them! But...no slide, no restaurant, hmmmm..... Not sold on it.

Then I turned to AKL CL and tried so hard to read the AKL thread but just couldn't absorb the info and became highly confused:crazy2:. I had to keep scrolling out of the thread to be sure it was really the info thread. In any event, I think I've scratched that one too given the room size and that the lounge is on a different floor than the CL rooms. We really didn't like the WL room size much, though we adjusted to it, but it sure is hard to adapt after staying in a newly refurbed huge Poly room;).

So where did I end up? Nowhere, really. Going to give it a week and see if any deals pop up and go from there.

Wanting to wish everyone a Happy New Year! If you are celebrating tonight have fun and be safe! Hugs!:grouphug:

A little background... I can't ever decide where to stay. ;)

Our first time onsite we stayed at Pop, after changing from POFQ. The next time we stayed at POR after changing from BC. We have stayed at the cabins. I liked those, but then again it was for 2 nights and we had a golf cart.

So this trip>>(March) myself, dh, ds and youngest dd are going down on a Friday. Oldest DD and her boyfriend are joining us that Monday. We will be staying for 7 days. That's where the fun begins. I don't know where to stay. Another thing :crazy2: my husband does not enjoy Disney food. He want to stay somewhere that has a microwave or something. The DVC rentals seem too high. He can stand the food for a few days, so that is why I thought we could try WL for a few nights, but I don't know... So in conclusion HELLO... I so belong here. :)
