Mixology and formal night…. Maybe not a good idea! Part 2

On our last cruise Joh, Nate, my sister and I had booked a martini tasting and again it was right before dinner on formal night. I did not over indulge as I discovered I was not a huge fan of martinis except for the fruity or chocolate ones. There were a lot more of the “other” ones that I did not finish but my sister was more than willing to help me out. ;)I think she “helped” out a lot of people at our table. Well we practically had to roll her out. :rotfl:She did make it to dinner and you can’t even tell in the pics that she was loaded. Now I was not NEAR as bad off as she was after this mixology class but I was definitely VERY happy. I liked all the drinks! :thumbsup2I got ready for dinner and helped the boys get ready. Evan showed up just 10 minutes before we had to leave and threw on his suit complaining the whole time. I was a little worried because I’m a bit on the clumsy side and I’m not very good with heals AND being a bit tipsy. Thankfully nothing embarrassing happened. I’m sorry to disappoint… my clumsiness always makes for a good story. I can’t tell you too much about dinner as I don’t remember much… we were at Enchanted Garden that much I know. Anyway here are a few pics from formal night.

My handsome boys. Doesn’t Evan look impressed!

A sleepy little Logan

Gary teaching the boys how to tie a Windsor knot while Anna finds it quite boring.

Luke and Daniel

Cassie and Sian

Here we are with most of the girls. Evan took off after dinner :headache:(of course!) so I was upset that I wasn’t going to be able to get a nice family pic while everyone was all dressed up and decided that I could at least get a nice mother daughter pic. While we were in line Jen and Bobbie were walking by and stopped to talk so I said we should get a pic with the ladies. Well we just kept collecting friends as they came by. While the photographers were posing us ladies the Captain came over and was looking on smiling and I could kick myself for not asking him to join us in the pic. I’m bummed though that we were missing Wendy and Sian.

Evan did show up later while we were still in the lobby and I couldn’t believe my eyes but he was still wearing his suit! :banana:So I was able to get this.

On to the show! This night it was Aladin and it was fantastic! I really enjoyed this show a lot. After the show the adult entertainment was a hypnotist which I thought would be intriguing. Nate was not feeling the best and decided he would stay back with the kids and he assured me he was fine. (I get a little paranoid about his health because he always downplays his symptoms.) I went to the show and gave him strict orders to text me if he felt any worse. I met up with the gang and we went to the show. Ricky Kalmon, the hypnotist gathered his volunteers and then invited the audience to try and “go under” as well. Joh said to me “I’m going to do it.” So I thought what the heck I’m going to try as well. I guess I did hold back a bit as I was praying that I wouldn’t make a total fool of myself and not be aware of it. :rotfl2:So once he had everyone on stage under he invited everyone who attempted to go under in the audience to stand up so I did….all by myself. :eek:I mean other people in the audience did stand up but not Joh!;) He asked if anyone who was standing if their feet felt hot and if they did to come up and he would shake their hand which would immediately cool them down. I did not feel the heat which was fine with me because they were added to the volunteers. There were a few obvious fakers but some I thought might have been truly under. I don’t know... I’m not convinced. It was definitely entertaining I can say that much! So that was the end of the first day at sea and I can tell you I was pretty tired. I think I was asleep by midnight.

Next up…. Grand Caymen!

:lmao::lmao: You're too funny Dawg! Hey... where's YOUR report?! Cass is kicking your butt!

Wont be a report from Underdog or his Sweet Polly this time. You know us, we're pretty boring.:rolleyes1

Nice formal night pictures. :thumbsup2 Something about a lady in a red dress that just screams Jessica Rabbit!:cloud9: One of these cruises im going to get Robin to wear one.:lovestruc

Grand Cayman! Part 1

We wake up early again:headache:…. around 7:00. Our plans for that day were for Evan, Gabe, and myself to go to the Turtle farm and Nate, Cassie and Luke were going to do the Dolphin Swim and then Turtle farm. Evan and I had done the dolphin swim on our first cruise in 2010 so skipped it this time and Gabe….well he doesn’t like water. We have a pool so I feel it’s very important that the boys know how to swim. During the summer they are in swimming lessons, which they go to everyday. Gabe still does not have a badge.:sad2: It usually takes bribing and threatening for him to actually GET in the pool. They all know Gabe quite well at swimming lessons and the instructors all take their turn having to have him in their class. We told Gabe this past summer that if he got a badge we would get him a DS. Well it was becoming apparent at the end of summer that wasn’t going to happen. The instructor on the very last day said to Gabe, “If you just dunk your head under water I will give you a badge…I don’t even care that you can’t do everything. I’ll GIVE you the badge. You will get a DS Gabe if you just dunk your head!” (she did make sure this was fine with us first) He refused. Can you even BELIEVE the stubbornness!:scared: Now he was disappointed that he wasn’t going to get to go swimming with the dolphins. I was like… are you serious! You freak out with your bath and you want to swim with dolphins now. Nope… not paying $119 for him to chicken out. So we were going to go our separate ways.
Jen and I booked directly with the turtle farm and it cost me $92 for myself, Evan and Gabe. If we booked through Disney it was going to cost us $92 per adult and $72 per child! That’s a savings of $164! :banana:I know I know… we still have to pay for transportation and food but I don’t think it would be $164! On Boatswains site it says it has free transportation but the departures were at 8:30 and 9:45 and returning at 12 and 1:15. Well all ashore wasn’t until 10:45 and we had to tender so I thought we’d have to take a cab or local bus. Then someone on our fb group said they talked with Boatswains saying that people that booked privately could still catch transportation with the Disney excursion people! So I called Boatswains just to confirm and she said it was on a first come first serve basis and I would have to look for someone in teal shirts or a red shirt with an “i” for information (I had to laugh because it made me think of the Incredibles.) :rotfl:
We met up with Jen and Rob and headed down to the theater where we had to get our tender tickets. We were seated in the theater and had to wait for our turn to get on a tender. I think we had the 3rd tender or something but it did seem to take a while. They had old cartoons playing to occupy the kids and a cast member telling really REALLY bad jokes. It was finally our turn to get herded on the tender and it took no time at all to get to the dock.

Here’s the Fantasy while we wear leaving for GC on the tender

Beautiful Grand Cayman!

They had a fenced in area where all the excursion people were meeting and I was scanning the crowd for teal or red “i” d shirts. We were leaving the area heading towards the cab area when I spotted a teal shirt just in front of us! I ran up to him and asked if he worked for the Turtle Farm which he replied yes. So I told him we were told we could get free transportation with Disney if the shuttles were not full. He told us to wait a few minutes and he would be right back. He returned and said to follow him. He was giving us a ride in the Boatswains van. We just had to pick up another staff member in the area and we were off. How perfect was that! He even said he would meet us out front at 3:00 and take us back…SCORE! On our way it started to pour, I think it was about this time that we realized that we forgot to grab towels. It was a good 20 minutes drive and I couldn’t believe our luck when the skies cleared as we arrived. While we entered we bumped into Joh and Gary who had booked the Island Tour.

Look who I bumped into!

Soon as we entered they have this huge lagoon full of adult sea turtles. I couldn’t believe how MASSIVE they were, some that were over 500 lbs!

The adult sea turtles

We moved on from that area to the baby turtles where you can catch and hold a sea turtle but on our way we came across these guys. Evan loves iguanas and had to take a few dozen pics of these guys.

While we were there we bumped into Holly and family! And it was a good thing too…if I had to catch my own turtle I’d still be there lol. Holly’s daughter Brittany let me hold the one she caught. :thumbsup2
Jen LOVES :lovestrucsea turtles and collects figures of them so she thought this was WAY cool!

I think this has to be my FAV pic of Logan of the entire trip!

Here’s Evan with the turtle he caught

Here I am with the turtle that Brittany caught for me lol.

The kids were starting to get hungry so we stopped for lunch. I couldn’t believe the prices! Gabe had cheese sticks with fries and a soda and Evan had a large fries, which we shared and a soda. I brought a water with me so that was everything… a kids order of cheese sticks, large fries and 2 sodas for $28!!! Good thing we had free transportation or we might have only broke even with not booking with Disney!

I hope you enjoyed your gourmet cheese sticks kiddo!

Once we were done eating we headed over to the lagoon to go snorkeling. We picked up our equipment and got ready to take the plunge. This was a man made lagoon with some fish and we did come across a little turtle. I found the bottom to be very slippery and slimy so it was better when we got out a little farther where the water was deeper. I didn’t think we would get very far because I did have Gabe with me. I was shocked when he said he would try. I think the fact that Logan was doing it and was way ahead of him kinda motivated him. He still didn’t “dunk” his head but he did try to snorkel. He couldn’t get the hang of it and would panic when he put his face in the water and would come up gaging and sputtering. At one point I asked if he wanted to head back and was so proud when he wanted to finish. I wish we had some pics of that!!! Once we went around the whole lagoon we laid in the sun trying to dry off as best we could since we didn’t have towels. We went to the change rooms to go and get changed and Jen and I used paper towels to finish drying off!:rotfl2: We met out front to catch our ride back to the ship. It was a lot of fun but we didn’t get to do everything the farm had to offer with such a short port day. It was a great excursion which we all enjoyed. I would definitely do this excursion again. :thumbsup2

We really should have booked the Western too. Eastern is nice but we've done it lots of times and a change would have been nice.
The only time we were in Grand Caymen our dolphin excursion got cancelled.

Fans? All 3 of them?:goodvibes
You have 4 silly.

Jill in CO

See Dawg! Like I said... Fans ::yes:: AND I nominated one of your trip reports in that thread best trip report. ;)

Na... you would have been disappointed. All the port days were super short except Cozumel and that was my 3rd time there. I felt a little ripped off actually.

That was just what I was going to say. The whole cruise felt so rushed, I much preferred the Eastern itinerary.

Instead of wrapping Christmas presents I have been reading your reports. I am looking forward to more chapters.

I hope everyone has recovered health wise.

Who knows... maybe even double digits :confused3:lmao:

Sorry, I was taking a little nap. . . who is Logan? And do you have another picture where I can see that whole shirt? :bitelip:

haha... Logan is my friends Rob and Jen's little guy. They are my Carnival friend converts ;). I'll have to look through my pics to see if I have a nice shot of the shirt...I'm assuming you are talking about Rob's and not Logans.:rotfl:
