You are so right about cherishing all the moments when your kids are at home. I say that to young couples all the time that seem exasperated with their little ones. I understand, day to day can get overwhelming, but soak it up - there will come a day they will wish they could do up a tiny coat, wash their face, tuck them in bed or read them a story.:lovestruc It only seems they will be little forever, it actually flies by.

I do the same thing. I'm always telling people with young kids to cherish every moment as their little ones will be grown before they know it and they will wonder where the time went. Our boys are 18 & 20 and it seems like just yesterday my oldest was entering pre-school. I'm a stay at home mom so I was with them 24/7 growing up, but I still don't know where the years went :(.

Sounds like you have a big Christmas planned and will have a house full :crowded:....but it will be worth it to have everyone there :goodvibes.

I miss our slightly warmer temps too.....went from mid 50s down to the teens :faint:....with not much chance of them climbing up anytime soon :sad2:.

LOL about your dog.....sounds like she doesn't like the cold much....and I can't say I blame her .

....it's a whopping 9 degrees here this morning :scared1:.

Love the crowded house, very sweet indeed.:cloud9:

LOL about the dog, she doesn't much like wind chill and rain, but she loves the snow. Weird, right?!

Your weather sounds close to ours, we are presently at 12 degrees with -2 wind chill. Brrr.

No baking here yet......I usually bake closer to Christmas, so will probably start in about a week and a half :goodvibes.

I usually bake closer to Christmas, too, but have to leave for 2 weeks tomorrow. I'm going to try to bake some cookies today and freeze them - my first attempt at freezing cookies, wish me luck!:teeth:

Count me in the group that spends a lot of time in the lounge as well as the shops ;). I could go to Disney and do just that without even going to any of the parks as that would be a very relaxing vacation to me ::yes::.

::yes::

I know! I was a stay at home mom for 7 years, then went back to work. It's hard to leave them to go to work, and it's hard to see them leave home. Hugs to all the moms who are missing their "little ones"!:grouphug:

Here's another photo ;):

That is weird....LOL....but our lab was the same way.....loved the snow but didn't like going out when it was raining or very cold :rotfl::rotfl:.

I hope you're able to get some baking done. I can't help with baking and freezing as I've never done it, but good luck....I'm sure everything will turn out just fine ;). Also, safe travels tomorrow.

I'll join you in hugs to the moms missing their "little ones". Even though mine are older and still home, I know the time will come for them to leave the house, which will really take a toll on me .

Love the pics you've been posting....I love the GF at Christmas time.....makes me want to be there now :cloud9:.

You guys are making me sad with all the talk of kids going out on their own....

Mine are 7 and 9 and I already get sad thinking about it. They slept over a friends house last night and I (who normally sleeps in on the weekend) was up bright and early ready to pick them up!!! Much to their dismay, lol :rotfl:

January will be here before you know it. Nice that your Dad gets his first taste of the Grand.

Thanks about the kids - yes, we have a big Christmas get together planned.party: DD and her Lab, my oldest DS and his dog and cat will be here for nearly 2 weeks, my younger son and his fiance and their dog will be here for a couple days (they don't get as much time off at once).:crowded: Can't wait!!

:faint: I miss our warm weather of last week! We are having frigid temps this week, ugh. It is 19 right now but "feels like" 5 with wind chill. Possible snow.

Looks like we are the ones in the deep freeze.:scared1: We'll have to band together for warmth.:lmao: My poor dog has been going out begrudgingly, looking around as the door slams behind her and then stands on the deck, surveying the yard, fur blowing like she's on the Arctic tundra!!

That is wonderful that you get to have them all together for Christmas. I am dreading the days when my kids go off and I don't get to see them. :santa:

Brrr . . . It's cold here too. Although, it is even colder where I grew up in SD. They are reporting Wind temps in the -22 range. Just another reason I am glad I no longer live there. LOL :sad2:

Your dog and my dog should get together. He does the same thing. I let him out and he stands there on the deck looking around. I often wonder what is going thru his mind . . . When he comes back in he give me that look that says, "Really, you couldn't train me to use the toilet inside. It's too cold out there!" :confused3

It's a rainy 54 degrees here in NJ today...I prefer a chillier December, myself!

I am seriously missing the GF and WDW so much right now...our last trip was last October, and since DD started high school this year, we decided not to take her out of school for our usual fall trip. I actually don't know when we'll be able to make it back and that makes me a bit sad. :(

Looking at all your photos and reading about your plans helps me get through it, though, so keep it up!

:sunny:

I am starting to have the same dilemma with my son. :confused3 He is in the Jr. High now, but it comes with so much more work! Makes me sad my baby is growing up! :sad1:

Sounds like a crowded but fun group!:rotfl2:

I will take ANY disney I can get:goodvibes
Dd and I have a great time, hopefully we can do it for years to come. I just had a nice trip with my mom to Dallas to visit my bro and family. I think my mom enjoyed a break from dad:lmao:

Does your family have any holiday food requests??? I need my moms kolochkies(sp)!!!

I too will take any Disney I can get!:cool1: The more the better. My grandma used to make Kolotchies (I don't know if that is the right spelling either!) and they were so yummy. My mom has tried to duplicate them, but they aren't quite the same. When I was much younger, my grandma tried to teach me how she made them . . . It was a disaster! She was one of those people who didn't follow a recipe. It was a pinch of this and a handful of that . . . I didn't get it . . . LOL:sad2:

for those of you who remember my job saga from the summer, i finally had enough and resigned two days ago! what a relief to be done with all that nonsense. i got a new job, it is part time (which i REALLY wanted but never thought i would find, everything i have found was full time), it is actually a position i used to work in about ten years ago and loved. very flexible schedule, great boss (same as when i worked there before). i got very, very lucky.

one of my labs had a botched routine surgery and we have had a terrible 3 weeks with more to come. i will spare you all the gory details but she needs 24/7 supervision and lots of care and unfortunately, the best case scenario is that IF she heals, it will be months of this. it is taking its toll on us, to say the least- with dh at work till 11 pm every night it is a bit much to have someone watch her 24/7 when i am the only adult caring for and chauffeuring both kids. it's so frustrating because going into this, it should have been "no big deal." and so far, we are in a total of nearly a whole GF vacation, with more expenses to come... very unexpected. but... what can you do? :confused3

I am glad that you found a new job! I had been in a very toxic teaching position a few years ago and I couldn't take it anymore. Then along came my dream teaching job. I now teach Cyber school and get to work even more closely with my students than I ever did before and I get to work from home. It is flexible so that if I need to take off do stuff for my kids, I can. I am a much happier mom now! :thumbsup2:teacher:

So sorry to hear about your dog. I hope he get better soon.

Your mom's pastries (see how I did that?! lol) sound delicious. The kids always ask me to make fudge, baked goods of all kinds and Chex mix.:teeth: It's a tradition for us to have Chex mix throughout the holiday season, if they get here and I've not made it yet, they are aghast!:rotfl:

It's disappointing the other family members do not enjoy Disney, but at least I have my girl, she sweetly indulges me.:love2:

I have completely veered off topic - AGAIN!! Here is a photo:

2006ChristmasWDW211.jpg

Can I put in my order for some fudge! ;) I wouldn't mind some chex mix too! :santa:

I am thinking that sooner rather than later it may just be DD and I doing Disney, unless DH and I make a trip together for food & wine one day! It makes me sad thinking about them growing up and leaving. Even on the days they are driving me crazy. lol

And I can't wait to see that Tree for myself. Just 2 more weeks until we check into the Grand!!!!! :santa:

I am still having a hard time realizing the age of my kids. Where has the time gone. My DS will be a teenager in a couple months. How did that happen . . . I am not old enough to have a teenager in the house . . . :rolleyes1

I am missing our warmer temps too . . . It's cold and snowy here today. I am just hoping that we have really nice weather when we are at Disney in 2 weeks.

I usually bake closer to Christmas too, but I am going to try and make some cookie this weekend. Along with trying to get my FE gifts done for the cruise portion of my trip. LOL Wish me luck! lol

The GF at Christmas is amazing.:cloud9:

I baked 4 dozen pecan tassies - which seems like a lot, until you start eating them, lol. According to the Joy of Baking website, they freeze extremely well, I hope they do.:p

LOL about your Lab. DD's Lab is hilarious in the snow, she prances around, cavorts and makes a fool of herself in general.:rotfl:

You guys are making me sad with all the talk of kids going out on their own....

It is hard, but it's all the sweeter when they are home again. Enjoy the coming years with your kids.

LOL! I know that look. I, too, often wonder what our dogs are thinking, I thought maybe it was just me!

The local news has been pointing out how much worse other areas have it, but it isn't helping.;)

I can relate, my grandmother had a fruitcake recipe that I now have a copy of, but I can't get them to come out right. Even my sister, who helped her make them as a teen, can't do it. Always missing something.

Good luck with your baking and gifting.:thumbsup2

LOL about having a teenager - don't worry, you will feel old enough in a hurry!;)

Fudge and Chex mix it is.:teeth: You'll be there to see the tree in person before you know it.

Princessmocha: my grandma baked that way too. :goodvibes

I do make thumbprint cookies with green mint jelly like my grandmas. I shut my eyes and take a bite and bam!! Back in her kitchen like a little girl again:cloud9:

K&A&C'S Mom love the holiday GF pics! The tree wasn't up yet when I was there but I have seen it the last 4/5 years.

Mickeynut I didn't bake after all. My husband wanted to shop. He never "shops"! I do usually make some cookies and freeze half and eat half. My kids like simple choc chip, oatmeal and sugar cookies which freeze good.

I love all the resorts at Christmas! When we there last year I visited WL, cr, GF and poly! (Stayed at BLT and they had cute trees in the halls my dh wanted to bring home).

Good morning... Happy Sunday! :) A rainy one, and colder (compared to the temps we've been having down south here lately).

Yesterday was our "party day"..two church parties on one day, and I'm wiped out! lol :rotfl: An eating orgy..(Blue, it's still all about the food, especially at Christmas time!)

Bethclayton, so happy to hear about your new job! :thumbsup2
And I totally agree with you, and own my love of the lounge too! :goodvibes (I know...you too, Mickeynut and k&a&c'smom..you're lounge lizards too! ) We linger in the lounge to chat with our CM friends all the time..

Sounds like you have THE dream job :thumbsup2. You get to work from home, love what you do, and can take time off when needed......can't ask for anything better :goodvibes.

And I can't wait to see that Tree for myself. Just 2 more weeks until we check into the Grand!!!!!

You will be checking into the Grand before you know it :yay:.

Watching your kids grow up so fast is sad. It is nice to see them grow up into young adults, but it's also sad at the same time as it's not long after that that they will be out on their own :(. My two (so far) say they are staying local and not moving away, but you never know what a job offer might bring when the time comes.....but thankfully I have at least another 3-4 college years for them to be home.

LOL about having a teenager - don't worry, you will feel old enough in a hurry!;)

I hear you on baking dozens of goodies and not ending up with as many as you originally started with :rotfl:....but you have to do some tasting along the way ::yes::.

Too funny about your DD's lab......they do have their funny sides as all dogs do, but they are amazing dogs and so loving :goodvibes.

I cracked up about "feeling" old enough with a teenager .....you are so right.....if one doesn't feel old prior to having a teenager, you sure will have that feeling when the time comes :rotfl2:.

I do make thumbprint cookies with green mint jelly like my grandmas. I shut my eyes and take a bite and bam!! Back in her kitchen like a little girl again:cloud9:

What a sweet memory of being in your grandma's kitchen when you make those cookies :).

Sorry you didn't get to bake, but hopefully your shopping trip was worth while. Good for you that your kids like the simple cookies.....I'm not that lucky....LOL.....but it's ok because I don't mind all of the baking during the holidays as it gets me into the Christmas spirit :santa:.

I love all of the resorts at Christmas time too......some I like more than others, but they are all very nicely decorated and it's fun to pop in and visit all of them :wizard:.

Good morning... Happy Sunday! :) A rainy one, and colder (compared to the temps we've been having down south here lately).

Good morning grannyminnie :wave2:. Having two parties in one day would wear me out too.....but I hope you had a nice time at both of them :goodvibes.

I am definitely a lounge lizard (I like that term ;))......I love to sit and chat with the CMs as well (especially in RPC).

Hi to everyone else.....hope everyone is having a nice weekend :flower3:.

Good Morning fellow GF Fans! :goodvibes

MickeyNut Your peanut butter blossom cookie recipe is a fave around here...

We are blessed to have 4 generations now baking holiday cookies together...I am a better helper than baker..LOL..but DD seems to have inherited her grandmas's knack for baking! :thumbsup2

Ok ok..I know we are OT a bit :confused3..but on the Disney side of that...I do have some of the Cooking with Mickey cookbooks that have been published over the years... and have tried many of the recipes... The cookbooks do bring me down Disney restaurant memory lane... anyone remember Flagler's?? Predecessor to Citricos? Its always about the food! :goodvibes

PrincessMocha I noticed that your are under the two week mark!!! :woohoo:

Hope that everyone has a magical Monday! :flower3:

I DO remember Flaglers with the beautiful wicker furniture and the veal shank. Still being served but not quite the same as then! I also remember paying $169 for a room - them days are gone forever too!

Got back last night..saw my friend getting married yesterday having her pictures taken..we had a late lunch in the Marina looking at Sugarloaf and counting the days...60!

Hi Everyone!

We just returned from our first stay at GF and oh my, it was marvelous!

We had connecting TPV rooms in Big Pine Key (I think that was the name of it). It was quiet, clean and service was second to none. The walk to get refills on drinks was a hike though.

The view of the fireworks was good but, I do have to say that the contemporary view was better. The kids liked being close to the Electrical Water parade, too.

Narcoosees and Citricos were both great restaurants and 1900 Park Fare had the best eggs benedict ever. Despite me vowing never to return to 1900 after dinner our last visit, I have to say the breakfast is very, very good.

I think we've said goodbye to the DxDP, it's just to much food and we are going to do Club Level next time and forego the dining plan altogether. I really like the idea of the outer buildings though-a little more quaint so, I'll be eyeing the outer building club level.

I already miss it-lovely, lovely place to stay. :thumbsup2

Glad you like the peanut butter blossoms......they're not only good, but very easy to make :goodvibes.

I also remember paying $169 for a room - them days are gone forever too!

Also gone forever are the $49 & $59 one way airfares :(.

Glad you had a great stay. The GF is a beautiful resort with a lot to offer. I would suggest looking into both SL and RPC for your GF CL stay. It was nice trying SL and I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience it, but there's nothing quite like staying in the main building (although everyone's opinion is different and there are some that don't care for RPC). Have fun planning your next stay :wizard:.

Blueskies: I know we are so close . . . We actually leave in 9 days and spend a little time at some other park in the Orlando area . . . :rolleyes1 But then less than 2 weeks to check into the Grand! :cool1::cool1:

DisneyDmbNut: I love your picture. I can almost smell the gingerbread! :santa:

I am so glad you had a great trip. We too are doing DxDP this trip and I have a feeling I might go into a food coma. Although with it being Christmas, dining might be the only thing we have a minimal wait! LOL

How exciting that you will be at the GF during Christmas :yay:. I love the Grand any time of year, but especially during the holidays :santa:.

Hello, everyone, from frigid Chicago!!:wave2: Hope you are all having a good week so far.

mickeynut - LOL about the dogs and the teens!;) I make peanut butter blossoms, too. My kids like to race each other unwrapping the Kisses, which makes it extra easy for me!

grannyminnie - hope you got some rest, 2 parties in one day - wow!!:faint: You're right, I'm a lounge lizard at heart.;)

trishadono - aren't all the resorts beautiful at Christmas? We love checking out as many of the decorations as we can. It's been so long since we've been at Christmas.:sad1:

BlueSkies - a weekend in FL?!:yay: A girl after my own heart! What a dream, after I woke up to -2 degrees this morning. Ugh.

The bell ringers were in 2006? I think. We were there in the days leading up to Christmas (flew home on Christmas Eve to be with the rest of the family, lol) and there were several wonderful performances - that's the only one I happened to catch in a photo! In fact, I didn't take nearly as many pictures that trip as I should have, phooey.

Pecan tassies are tiny pecan tarts, so good. My whole family loves them.
pecan-tassies-recipe.jpg

DisneyDmbNut - thanks for the photo, lovely!princess: Glad you had a nice weekend trip.

meredith1 - welcome back, glad you had a magical stay!pixiedust: The eggs benedict are always good at the Grand, one of our favorite items at the GFC.

We love SL and RPC, whichever is available at a discount.:thumbsup2

I thought you might feel the fireworks view less stellar than the CR - hard to beat those CR MK views, right?!

ppiew and mickeynut, I'm sad for the loss of the cheap travel in general.

princessmocha - 8 days to the dark side?! woohoo!!:yay: Then, on to the Grand.:cloud9:

Good Morning!

I was able to check in yesterday (YAY!!) but I have a question. It asked me if I wanted a dormer room. Since I am in SL, are those rooms on the top floor only or are some on the lower ends?

Other than having the closed balcony, what is the benefit? Are they bigger? Smaller??

We had the closed balcony at WL CL, it didn't bother me like it did some..I could go out in my sleep shirt and not worry about being seen..since I don't have a "view", just wondered if I should request this.
