The not so live version of dining w/ Disers, in Castles & on Safari! The Wrap! 2/26

Just discovered your trip reports - having fun reading along! Love the top that your daughter is wearing at CRT - so cute!

I totally agree with you about the atmosphere being the big draw of Sci-Fi. We just love it there because it's totally unique.

What a great dinner at CRT! You had a fantastic table - beautiful shots of the fireworks. The clock strike dessert is a really cool presentation. Now I want to go to dinner there just so I can have that!:rotfl:

The fact that we always use the DDP AND the reports of how mediocre CRT's food is mean that we'll probably never eat there. I just can't imagine dropping two credits on "eh" chicken!!
The popcorn chicken at Sci Fi does look delish, though!!

I loved your CRT review! That is too bad about your salad. I am in love with the cupcake presentation. Hope you girls have a great time at WDW, you are going to love Christmas time, please have some bites for me!!

I would never mock an update! :goodvibes Food is food, and we like to talk about it.

Oooohhh, carrot cake cookie. So amazing. And a great breakfast treat!

Completely agree with the Sci-Fi statement. The food is definitely mediocre, but the atmosphere is so Disney to me.

In all of my years, I have actually never eaten at CRT for dinner. Only for breakfast.

How nice of Em to share her salad with you. I would do the same for my Momma too.

Nice seat for Wishes!

You're certainly not going to hear any complaints from me for posting about your cookie... or for showing all those dessert pics. I LOVE the rice krispy treat turkey legs! So cute.

That buffalo popcorn chicken has me thisclose to adding an ADR for Sci-Fi! I wouldn't want to do a full meal, but an appetizer? Hmmmmm...

Being from, well, Buffalo I love everything Buffalo chicken flavored and have considered creating a new board on Pinterest JUST for buffalo chicken recipes! We have a restaurant here that makes the most delicious buffalo wing soup and I have a rocking recipe for buffalo chicken lasagna! I'm drooling!

I know your trip is coming up, so have a GREAT time!!!!!! pixiedust: pixiedust:

Thanks for the well wishes Khaleesi. We leave Thurs. morning. :)

See.... an appetizer just to get a "flavor" of the atmosphere is a great option if you don't want to commit to a full meal. I was prepared for those being mediocre but they weren't bad. And they had some spice to them.

Buffalo chicken lasagna sounds really good. Is it buffalo sauce instead of marinara/spaghetti sauce. Pasta in it?? Wow. That really sounds good. I wasn't hungry until just now.

Thanks once again for a fabulous review of YC Club Level offerings. Since I have never been to the YC lounge, I appreciate the great amount of detail in the pictures and descriptions (to the best of your ability)

So here is my rant- they used to have signs identifying the appetizers offered. That was really helpful on so many levels- for people who may have allergies and intolerances and for others who may be reporting about food.

I had to ask one of the CMs for a description of all of the appetizers.

I believe the tomato-like thing you have pictured is actually watermelon and feta with Balsamic vinegar. I tried some and it was good. Not great, but good.

Thank you for sharing that Dee. If I knew it was a watermelon salad I might have tried it since that sounds interesting. Which is your point about the signs. I can't determine if I will snub my nose up at it if I don't know what it is!

Still haven't tried a carrot cake cookie. I really wanted to this past trip but we are never hungry in the parks! :confused3 It looks so good! Some day I'm going to have to have it for breakfast. :thumbsup2
Looks like you guys had a good meal at Sci Fi! The atmosphere in there is so cool. Glad you were pleasantly surprised with your food. :thumbsup2
CRT! Excited about this one. I haven't been there since 2007, and never with DH. I want to bring him some day.
How cool to be able to watch a little of Wishes from inside the castle!! Too bad about your salad, that would have been my choice too, over the strawberry feta. Now I'll know if I do get there in the nearish future!
Both entrees look really tasty, I especially like the sound of your chicken.
Hmmm too bad the desserts weren't very good, but that's nice of Christopher to bring you another. Em's Clock Strikes Twelve looks really, really delicious. I think that's going on my "Some-Day-List"!

Hi Wendy!
If you love carrot cake and cream cheese frosting these are perfection!! This was the first trip that I had not 1 but 2 of those cookies. Of course they mess up my appetite since then I'm not hungry for a meal.

It's always good when you lower your expectations and then the meal exceeds them! :rotfl2:

Ahhh Johnny would get a sword at CRT and could be your knight! That would be worthy of a trip right there!

The strawberry feta salad = flavor
The apple walnut salad = no flavor. Perhaps ask for strawberries and feta on the side and make it much better.

Too bad the photo of my chicken dish doesn't do it justice.

Hi luvayorkie!! Thank you very much. I'm glad that you are reading and joining in.

I have to tell you that when I read your comment about my DD's top in the photo I looked at it and though oh yeah, I like that too. It was hanging in her closet not packed for the trip so I stole it. It may make an appearance in my next trip. :rotfl2: And I can thank you for giving me the idea. (It's already been ok'd with Em!)

Thanks again for joining. :)

Where is the carrot cake cookie? Looks yum!!

Hi mkleinbe! See post 494 and you can see that glorious carrot cake cookie. I posted three updates in a row so it is a little further back. :)

I totally agree with you about the atmosphere being the big draw of Sci-Fi. We just love it there because it's totally unique.

If it wasn't for the Colossal 50 foot man and him spearing that poor little guy with the syringe we wouldn't be near as interested. I do love the nostalgia of a drive in theater too so it gets a lot of points for the theming. And the burgers aren't bad.

That table for CRT was perfect! Actually, the table was perfect for the fireworks and spying on what people were doing in Fantasyland!

The fact that we always use the DDP AND the reports of how mediocre CRT's food is mean that we'll probably never eat there. I just can't imagine dropping two credits on "eh" chicken!!
The popcorn chicken at Sci Fi does look delish, though!!

Kylie I feel that way about the CRT breakfast. It's ok but not exceptional. I expected more from my salad and dessert.

I would definitely get the popcorn chicken again but I want a burger too. :p

Hi Lori! I hope you are doing well. :)

At least that cupcake made up for the meh salad.

Thanks! I'm excited about seeing the Christmas decorations and all the firsts that will come with this trip.

I would never mock an update! :goodvibes Food is food, and we like to talk about it.

Hi Dani! I'm glad you don't judge!

Just once I would like to bring popcorn with me to Sci Fi and pretend that I am actually at a drive in! Although the food isn't stellar the theming is awesome!

This was our first CRT dinner and we actually liked it. For several trips we were eating at CRT as our final breakfast of the trip but for some reason I abandoned that for dinner.

You are a good daughter! :goodvibes

Day 10: Sunday August 25, 2013 - Grand Floridian Café Breakfast

Breakfast at Grand Floridian Café has been in our dining line up for the last 6 trips. I think the appeal for us is having a relaxing, non-character centric dining experience at a beautiful resort. Obviously the food is pretty great as well.

We hopped on the monorail to the GF for our 8:15am ADR. When we checked in we requested our usual server, Robert, and were seated in his section with no delays since they weren’t too busy. As always, we were welcomed with a smooch and a squeeze.

Anyone who has read my dining reviews for oh say the last 2 times will know that once I find something I like I’m not easily swayed to order something new and different. In this case, the French toast is fabulous so I stick with it. Em likes to try new things so she ordered something new this time with the American breakfast.

Vanilla Laced French Toast: Brioche bread dipped in vanilla flavored batter (scrambled egg substituted for bacon or sausage) ($11.99)

Ahhhh that's better!!

American: Two eggs served with bacon, sausage, biscuit, breakfast potatoes and a choice of juice ($13.99)

There’s just something so wonderfully delicious about the French toast. I see it in my near future again!

As for the American that Em ordered, you can see that the bacon was nice and crisp or dark and stiff, whichever description you prefer. She liked everything but the potatoes. I tried them myself and couldn’t imagine how they could screw them up so horribly! They tasted like someone in the kitchen decided to throw some sour milk on top of non-seasoned potato shreds. Blech! Apparently Em subbed toast for a biscuit.

Despite the potatoes not being anything that we’d want to try again, the rest of the meal and dining experience was great.

We took some photos with Robert and paid our bill. Using our TiW card we saved $5.79. Definitely a better dining experience compared to our dinner earlier in the trip.

Up Next: Le Cellier Lunch

I'll be back to finish up this Dining Review when we get back from WDW after 12/15.

I don't think I've mentioned our dining plans for this next trip so to give a brief preview.... This is a Disers dining extravaganza! I will be meeting up with several Disers to eat and play during the Holiday season at WDW. This is a first for Emily and me so we are really looking forward to the next week.

There will only be one new restaurant for me and Em - Rose & Crown. All others are repeats of old favorites. I'm looking forward to dining at California Grill for the first time since the refurb, going back to Citricos since we skipped it last trip, and of course two other favorite steakhouses at WDW - Shula's and YSH.

I will post a link to the dining review that I will be doing with my Diser friends once I return. Most everyone on the Dining Boards knows Barb's live dining thread though.

Take care and have a great week!

That vanilla laced French toast sounds like something I'm going to need to try to make some day. Yum! Breakfast looks wonderful all around, but how weird that you can mess up the potatoes so badly. Glad it didn't ruin the meal!
And again, have a fabulous trip!!

Have a super fab trip! Can't wait to hear all about it. Christmas at Disney is still on my "to do" list.

I am always late to the party (at least in terms of commenting on things!) and I just wanted to let you know how much I love reading your DR and TR's. Have a wonderful trip!

Ooh that French Toast looks yummy although I can never understand why you guys serve savoury with sweet :confused3

Have a fabulous trip :goodvibes

Wow, your view of Wishes at CRT is incredible! That might sway me into trying dinner there on a future trip.

Have a great time in Disney! This is such a great time of year to be there. Looking forward to reading all about it! :thumbsup2

First off, have a great trip! I'm sad I won't be there to see all of the DISers that are there right now.

I love the GFC. I haven't had breakfast there, but dinner a few times, and I find it quite enjoyable. I agree, it's a non-character centric dining experience. The restaurant is lovely.

I am very similar to you when it comes to food. When I find something that I really like, I stick with it and it's not easy to sway me. I'm not picky at all, but when I like something, dangit I like something!

All caught up! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. And enjoy your trip!!!

Sci-Fi always looks like a lot of fun. We really need to try it one day. I mean, there's nothing wrong with a decent burger and fries in an awesome setting! :thumbsup2

We are HUGE CRT fans - for the princesses, of course. ;) I'm glad you girls had fun there too. :thumbsup2

The GFC looks like a really nice choice that I have never considered. The food looks tasty, and it sounds like you regularly have a great experience there. Adding to list…….

All caught up!! I may not remember everything but I'm going to try. (I know, memory issues & I'm nowhere near old yet. Hehe.) anyway!

The sci if looks so fun. I saw that turkey sandwich on the menu...sold! I love how odd it seems. And of course, you can't beat seeing Uncle Walt on the big screen!

Dinner at cinderella's still looks like it's the best. While I wish it was princess meet & greet free, because I love the sense of romance of being in the castle, but I do love visiting with my girls so... That wish ceremony is so fun, you just can't deny joining in. I will never forget experiencing it with my cousins. They closed their eyes and wished so hard...tears! I'm glad you guys had fun with the wands. :)

I was shocked to not see a mickey waffle at breakfast but when I read the description of the French toast, I understood. Looks & sounds sooooo good. I thank you for doing these and testing out foods for your fellow picky people. :) Robert looks so fun! You are so cool Brenda! Cast members as your friends!! I aspire to be that cool one day.

Have fun on your December trip!!! I hope you can find pumpkin bread in Starbucks! xoxo

Brenda, have you ever done the dining plan with AP? just wondering because i am debating to get the TIW card or the dining plan for our next trip.

Hi luvayorkie!! Thank you very much. I'm glad that you are reading and joining in.

I have to tell you that when I read your comment about my DD's top in the photo I looked at it and though oh yeah, I like that too. It was hanging in her closet not packed for the trip so I stole it. Thanks again for joining. :)

So funny - Glad I could provide some inspiration!

Any idea where she got it? The cut and color are great. It really pops in pictures - enjoy! :)

I'm going to the GFC for the first time Sunday, and if my sister doesn't order that french toast, I'll have to. It looks delicious!

I hope you have a delightful trip! :goodvibes
