Wait! Where's your wedding ring? An Oct. 2013 Disneymoon TR Updated 5/7!

Hi! You had me at Disneymoon! I remember your previous trip report and the pictures were INCREDIBLE!! Can't wait to see (and read!) more!

Hi! I am so happy that I came across this TR!! The reason I found the DIS was while researching disney honeymoon ideas! There aren't many trip reports about Disney honeymoons so I am beyond excited that you've decided to write one!! I'll be going on my very own Disneymoon in June!

Your wedding pictures are GORGEOUS! If mine come out half as nice as those I'll be thrilled! :goodvibes You two are totally adorable!

Wow, your wedding pics are gorgeous! You looked stunning and Franklin was very dashing! I can't wait for this TR. the teaser pics on FB so far have not disappointed!

I'm subscribing!!
Your wedding pictures are adorable, im glad you had such a fantastic day!
You look beautiful in your wedding dress as well! I love the minnie ears and hoodies, what a great idea! I can't wait to hear about your trip, im sure it will be magical!

Such beautiful pictures Missy!!!! I'm following over from the Oct group. Can't wait to see more. I went back to read your May TR and my God...your husband is an amazing photographer!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on a beautiful wedding to you both!!! :)

Missy! I am here! (And hopefully made first comment hehe)

First, congrats congrats congrats!

I am completely obsessed with your dress. So gorgeous and it fits you perfectly!

Love the Minnie hoodies and ears

AHH the Newseum! How perfect! I loved it when I visited, I was thinking about college in DC and went there when I was doing tours. It's awesome.

Great pictures! You guys look so happy! Can't wait to see more and hear about the trip.

Thanks Courtney! The Newseum is easily my favorite museum here in D.C. I'm a total news junkie, so that may be why. ;)

:welcome: back, not just Missy but Mrs!

Great start so far! Can't wait to hear ALL about it!!!

:cool1:

:welcome: Dee, I thought I might see you here. Definitely a Mrs. now, can you believe we've been married a month (time flies when you're having fun)!

So happy for the both of you! I love all the Disney touches to the wedding and all of the wonderful shots in DC for the wedding! Simply beautiful!

Thank you! Lots more Disney details to come from the wedding and lots of Disney fun on the way from the Disneymoon! :goodvibes

Congratulations! We share anniversary dates now. We've been married for 20 years now.

May you embrace the roller coasters of life, keep your eyes filled with dreams to fulfill and many mouseketeers to follow you down Main Street.

That's so cool that my anniversary is now the same as yours! And thank you so, so much for the good wishes.

I'm here! Missy, you look stunning. Just absolutely breathtaking! I'm glad that you guys were able to find a photographer that took Franklin quality photos! I think with a photographer as a husband, the standards are going to be super high for your wedding photography, and you guys obviously found someone that did a great job capturing you and your friends/family.

Your dress was amazing! It looked great on you and it's just so pretty. Love the little Disney touches you have shown so far. Now on with the report, Disney or bust! :yay:

Thanks and :welcome: Merideth! Franklin was in charge of picking the photographers. When the planners sent us the recommendations, he picked apart each portfolio until he found one he liked. Then, when we met with them for the first time, he came armed with a page's worth of questions to ask. All I really had to do was flip through the pretty pictures in their albums. :lmao: And we couldn't have made a better choice, Maria and Drew were awesome. The preview pictures looked better than I could have ever imagined, now I'm dying to see the rest of the photos!

Subbing in! Of course ;)

Yay! Thanks Jessica, glad to have you here! :yay:

Beautiful wedding pics so far, I can't wait to see the rest!

So excited that you are starting the TR, but I am still so bummed that it didn't work out for us to meet up!

I know, I was bummed too! But you guys were having so much fun on Pax's birthday, I didn't want to interrupt! I didn't realize your Italy trip was ABD, that is so awesome!

Hi! Headed over from the Oct FB page - looks like I have a bit to catch up on!!

Thanks Sarah! Plenty of TR reading material for you to choose from, I'm still working on my January and May TRs (in addition to this one, of course).

Hello!! Followed your link from the October group! Gorgeous pictures! Love the sweatshirts and Mouse Ears! Can't wait to read/see more!!

Thanks Paula! All the Disney goodies for the bridesmaids turned out awesome. Hayley from Magical Ribbons and Jen from Miss Morgan designs (Etsy) both did incredible work in helping me with the custom stuff I needed.

B E A U T I F U L !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can't wait to read more!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats from a fellow District of Columbian! I live in Woodley Park and work downtown. Great to see another "local" on the boards! Can't wait to read more!

Jennifer

:wave2: Hi fellow Washingtonian! We live in Virginia 'burbs and I work downtown. Glad to have you aboard for this ride.

I'm joining of course!

I would have though Franklin lost the ring too!!!!! Glad that wasn't the case, and he simply didn't put it back on before leaving the room.

I commented on your other TR about the wedding, but again, you look beautiful!

Yay, glad to see you here Danielle! Franklin really gave me a scare with the ring, but I think he's gotten used to putting it back on now. Phew! And thanks for the lovely compliments. :goodvibes

Hey everyone!
I'm the other half of this trip report. Thanks for joining in. You guys are in for a real treat. I decided to try some new things with my photos. I won't give anything away, so stick around.

Hi honey! :wave2: Glad you popped in to say hi to everyone!

Love your wedding photos! Wonderful wedding!

Can't wait to see the rest of your TR.

Thanks Suzanne!

Weird- when I subscribed while on FB it showed a bunch if pages... Now it's just one.... I'm confused..... Oh well... ;) Oh my gosh what a beautiful wedding!!! The capital is a gorgeous back drop!! Sometimes I wish we did something a little more (all I miss is not having professional pictures!) However I must say your dress is elegant and just classically beautiful! The guys don't look so bad in their tuxes either!! The picture of you guys outside the museum (edited after re reading descriptions!) (under the first amendment...) stunning!!! I can't wait to read and see more.... After all how can you go wrong with a Disneymoon!!

Thanks Sarah! It was fun having everyone get all dressed up and we totally lucked out weather-wise (it never rained a drop during our rooftop ceremony, even though it threatened to all day).

That picture outside the museum is Franklin's favorite too, I believe.

Congratulations and welcome back!!! I'm so excited to learn about your trip! Your wedding looks gorgeous and your dress was amazing! I love the national monuments in the backgrounds. Your hoodies are super cute, too! I can't wait to read more!

Thanks Deanna! What are the dates for your Boardwalk trip? I think we might overlap...

Yay for the Disneymoon!!!!! What beautiful wedding pictures!

Thank you so much!!

I am IN!!! Congratulations once again!! Can't wait to read all about it!

Yay! So glad to have you here Linda. I need to go catch up on your August TR because we're going next August and I haven't been to Disney in the dead of summer since I was a little kid! I'm a little worried about the heat. :scared1:

I am soooooo excited for this trip report! You looked GORGEOUS at your wedding! Congrats to you both!

I'm excited to share this TR with you. Thanks!

Congratulations! It looks fabulous!

Thank you!

Wow! Awesome start :goodvibes
Cant wait to read all about it :)

Thanks! I can't wait to tell you all about everything we did, it was a great trip. :thumbsup2

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! How are the plans coming? Have you found a venue? Or a dress?

Fair warning though, this isn't a typical Disney trip for us. There were practically no rides -- I think we rode a total of 10 rides in five+ days. We spent lots of time eating, drinking and soaking up the Disney atmosphere we love so much!

Congratulations on a beautiful wedding to you both!!! :)

Thanks for following me over! Franklin is a truly gifted photographer. And he's got some fun things planned, photo-wise, for this TR so stay tuned!

Following along! :)

:welcome: aboard!

Enjoyed your photo's and story.

Wonderful to have the Disney passion.

Thanks Deanna! What are the dates for your Boardwalk trip? I think we might overlap...

We'll be at the Boardwalk May 18-23 and then switch over to AKV for the 23-28. When will you be there?

Also, a random question for you: Do you know if I am unable to book ADRs for the second half of my trip until 180 days out from check in to AKV(the second stay on my split stay)? I booked ADR's this morning for the Boardwalk portion and that's all I could do. I thought someone with experience on split stays, like you, would know if that was the case.

Excuse my non-pretty text (I'm on my phone), but I wanted to answer your question ASAP. The system treats split stays as two separate reservations, so you'll have to wait until 180 days out from your second check-in to make the rest of your ADRs.

Oh, and our trips totally overlap. I'll be at Boardwalk from May 19 to the 26.

Congratulations to the both of you! Your wedding photos are gorgeous and you were a beautiful bride! Looking forward to reading more.

Thanks for getting back to me. I should be able to finish making ADRs on Sunday then. I figured the separate reservations were the issue.

I'll have to let you know our plans soon and we can try to say hello at some point. That's so exciting!

Joining in!
Congrats on your Wedding!

Thanks, :welcome: aboard!

Awww, thank you so, so much!

Every time I make ADRs, I always remember how much easier it is to call and make my ADRs vs. doing them online. They take your credit card once and apply it to all your ADRs, plus they can look for broader parameters than we can online. I did get locked out of Be Our Guest at first, but found a much-too-early 4 p.m. dinner reservation for one of my days. So that's a start. Here are what my plans look like so far:

May 19:
Arrive at BWV
Lunch in World Showcase
Dinner at 'Ohana
MSEP and Wishes at MK

May 20:
Breakfast and pool time at BWV
Afternoon/evening at DHS
Dinner at Hollywood Brown Derby
Fantasmic

May 21:
Pre-opening breakfast at Crystal Palace
MK character hunt all day
Dinner at BOG
Wishes

May 22:
'Ohana breakfast
Epcot character hunt all day
Dinner at Via Napoli
Illuminations

May 23:
MK all day until I meet Franklin at BWV upon is arrival
Dinner at Tokyo Dining
Illuminations

May 24 and 25:
Star Wars Weekend!!!

May 26:
Breakfast at Grand Floridian Cafe
MK for a few hours
Head home :(

The hours leading up to this particular Disney trip were quite the whirlwind. The wedding went until after midnight. We finally kicked our friends out of our hotel suite at 3 a.m. And we were up, packed and at brunch by 10 a.m. By the time we got to the airport, we were both exhausted (but, at the same time, exhilarated because we were on our way to Disney!

When we got to MCO, I took Disney’s Magical Express…

DSC_0015-L.jpg

… while Franklin picked up our rental car.

DSC_0016-L.jpg

When I got to the DME queue the CM looked at me in my bride T-shirt and bride ears and said, “Where’s your other half?” I explained how I can’t start a Disney trip without a ride on DME, so Franklin went to get our rental car. He laughed and said he completely understood.

I waited a few minutes for a bus and hopped aboard, while Franklin made his way to the car.

DSC_0030-L.jpg

And for the first time in my Disney life, my resort was the first stop! Hello Yacht Club! Franklin wasn’t too far behind.

DSC_0033-L.jpg

I got to the front desk and when I gave the CM my name, she said someone from the club level would be right down to take me upstairs and check me in. Check in went very smoothly. We already had our MagicBands and the CM asked if we were all set with our Fastpass Plus reservations (which we were). He apologized that they couldn’t accommodate our request for a king-size bed. No worries, we were happy to be at Disney!

Franklin arrived a few minutes after I finished checking in. We both dropped our stuff in the room and split, we had a dinner to get to! Where were we going, you ask? Oh, just somewhere we’d waited a year to eat at again. California Grill!!!! That year-long refurb had really tested our patience because it’s one of our favorite restaurants. We were sooooo ready to eat there again.

They did a beautiful job with the refub, the restaurant has never looked better.

The had sprinkled Mickey confetti on the table in honor of our honeymoon.

DSC_0042-L.jpg

Franklin started with a sake martini.

DSC_0050-L.jpg

The waiter brought out our bread. Both were lavender flavored, one was focaccia, the other a whole grain roll.

DSC_0051-L.jpg

Franklin went to scope out the new viewing deck to decide where he’d shoot the fireworks from that evening.

DSC_0044-L.jpg

DSC_0047-L.jpg

He like this angle much better than the old viewing deck, which was much more centered on Space Mountain (rather than the castle). Neither of us could figure out why the lights they installed were this odd yellow-green color.

Back to dinner! Franklin was in a sushi mood, so he ordered his beloved Spicy Kazan roll.

DSC_0052-L.jpg

He also got an order of sashimi.

DSC_0053-L.jpg

Truth be told, he didn’t love the sashimi. He said that the salmon didn’t taste very fresh and the other fish didn’t have much taste at all. Next time, he’ll just order another sushi roll. But he clearly didn’t hate it so much that he didn’t eat every last bite. He definitely lives life like he’s always going for the “Clean Plate Club” sticker at 50s Primetime Cafe.

DSC_0058-L.jpg

I had the goat cheese ravioli.

DSC_0057-L.jpg

And something from the new menu that I had been dying to try, the pork belly sushi. A little bit of a description for those who haven’t heard of it. Pork Belly Nigri - House-cured Pork atop a sushi roll that includes bacon and Yuzu rice with a spicy teriyaki sauce.

DSC_0056-L.jpg

It tasted every bit as good as it sounds, I could have eaten a couple of more plates’ worth.
The goat cheese ravioli was also delish, but was so outshined by the pork.

We got the sundae sampler as our dessert.

DSC_0061-L.jpg

It was easily the most adorable dessert we’ve ever had at Disney. But I would love to see them sub out the strawberry sundae for something in the chocolate universe.

The fireworks were just minutes away, so we stepped out onto the balcony to watch. I love Wishes, and it makes me cry every time I see it. But Hallowishes is on a whole other level for me. The music is amazing and the amount of color in the fireworks is breathtaking. I was so excited to see my favorite fireworks on the first night of our trip!

A truly spectacular show to kick off our Disneymoon! We went back in to finish our dessert and pay the bill. I know plenty of you have read that California Grill isn’t as good as it was before the refurb, so I will give you my honest opinion. The service isn’t as attentive as it used to be and it was pretty noticeable. But we thought the food was still really good, as was the view and atmosphere. All in all, I have no problems recommending Cali Grill, as long as you go in knowing the service isn’t as spectacular as it once was.

We collected our car and drove back to Yacht Club. When we pulled up to the resort to valet the car, I noticed a couple getting out of the car ahead of us. It was Wanya from Boyz II Men. The group was doing Eat to the Beat concerts the next few days at Epcot. Franklin and I were really excited to see the concerts the next day for a very special reason. You see, our first dance song at the wedding was the Boyz II Men version of the Lonestar hit, “Amazed.” Boyz II Men had sung the song at an Eat to the Beat concert years ago and Franklin and I instantly fell in love with their version. The group released an album of covers the following year that included “Amazed.” And using it for our first dance was far and away the easiest choice we made during the wedding planning.

I looked at Franklin and said “We have to go say hi, right?” Let me preface this by saying that if he’d had any of his kids with him, I wouldn’t have entertained the thought. But how crazy would it be to have the lead singer of your wedding song, that you danced to at your wedding less than 24 hours before, standing in front of you on your honeymoon. So we went over to say hi. We told him about our wedding song and the waltz we learned for the dance and Franklin even showed him the copper card I’d gotten for his wallet that had the lyrics to the chorus, our initials and the wedding date. Wanya was totally awesome, he was so excited that we’d chosen that song as our first dance (especially since we’d first heard it live at Epcot). I mentioned that we were planning to attend all three shows the next day and wondered if they could maybe play “Amazed” during one of them.

“Yeah, we can slide that in there for you guys,” Wanya said. I was on cloud nine. This was the very definition of pixie dust and added to the perfection that was the first day of our Disneymoon. We said our goodbyes and made our way up to the room, a room neither of us really had a chance to look at before we bolted for dinner a few hours earlier.

We were on the fifth floor, the club level floor.

DSC_0079-L.jpg

The room was immaculately clean and I loved the decor. The rich colors and crisp whites made for a very pretty scene.

There was a very special surprise waiting for us, compliments of the Yacht Club staff.

We unpacked a bit and both flopped back onto the bed. It had been quite a big 24 hours and we had lots of fun ahead. But for now, it was time for much needed sleep.
