Magic heading back to Miami....

Someone on FB (from the Aug cruise I was on) heard that they went back for items to fix the AC. She says the ship, at least forward where she is is very cold now.

They are lucky - we have been warm for the last 8 days. A couple places were cool and on the 11:1 cruise some people brought blankets into the show so they must have been cold, but we were not.

The true test of Disney is if they take this experience to heart and actually spend more time fixing pluming, air conditioning, and removing rust and mold on the Wonder's dry dock next year. I really don't see the Wonder going to Cadiz for her dry dock after this experience. Most likely she'll end up in Norfolk, Va.

I'm so sorry for the problems you are having!!! We sail December 4th, and I am hoping for the best. That's really all you can do...

We are in 8040 and with the exception of maybe 1-2 hours of cold water and a short bout with a toilet that was delayed in flushing, we have been quite happy with our cruise. Our Palo dinner on Wednesday night had no AC issues, but our brunch on Friday did. They gave us a discount on the meal, I suspect it was because of the temperature. It did get quite warm in There.

I would also say that our room is in really good shape. The new carpet looms fine and the bathrooms have been working well with the short exception today. The contractors are not uncommon to see, but has taken nothing away from our experience. All that said, it is a 15 year old ship and does show that age, but given the use that the ship gets, it is to be expected.

I have pics of what was loaded. Pallets of orange tanks that said coolants.

It must have been a fairly serious situation, considering that the ship was stopping in Key West the next day. Whatever it was that was loaded after going back to Miami could have easily been driven overnight to Key West and loaded there the next day. So whatever it was, the ship couldn't wait even a day for it.

Perhaps it wasn't just supplies but also more workers? It sounds like the ones they have on board are being kept pretty busy so maybe they needed more specialists to deal with repairs.

No, no one boarded the ship.

We were on the 11/1 sailing. We were in room 6089, our son right across in 6088. No problems with plumbing or anything else. We saw DISers around and no reports of any problems from any of them (nor on our meet thread after returning home). :upsidedow We had brunch in Palo and our son had dinner there as well. No ac problems on either occasion. :thumbsup2 There was some problems with washers and dryers, but all else seemed to be in working order. Love the new look and I really love the new carpet in the cabins. Cushy to walk on. :goodvibes We were in AP for Pirate night and that is a real treat!! ::yes:: Happy cruisers yet again. :)

Supposedly it was a cooling chemical for the AC and refrigerators. I'm guessing they went back because it was a refrigerator problem. If the fridges weren't working for say a day, they probably got worried. Loosing that much food would be a bigger economic loss than sailing back to Miami.

We have 6089 and the room across from it on our first January cruise...glad to hear all was well with that room! THANKS!

It seems to be pretty well confirmed now that the critical stores was a coolant gas, likely Freon.

The must have been a leak, somewhere in the system and they drained off the spare gas, requiring more. This can happen.

They need to get the system up within a period of time before they would be required by health rules not to use the food stuffs.

Soo...........it must have required the vessel to return to the closest port, in this case Miami, to get the whole system up, that would include the refers, freezers and as reported, the AC.

The bill for the return, I would think $25,000 is about right.

w0w. $25,000 just to dock in Miami for an hour? That's crazy! :scared1:

I know it only took us out of our way for a couple hours, but they had to close the stores, drain the pool and the reason I went with the 5 day cruise was to have the day at sea, we left beautiful sunny skies into cloudy windy rougher seas

I was at both the Goofy Pool and the adult pool the while time we were in Miami, they didn't drain them. It got windy and rougher while the captain turned the ship, but then improved.

Thank you for sharing your account. Others were not as fortunate. The a/c issues occurred on the 11/6 sailing which you were not on.

Overall it was an amazing two cruises, and I can't wait to go back.

Keggy, have they began Christmas decorating on the MAGIC yet ?

No, but I had a feeling maybe they would go up this week. They did have merch in the ships on the 11/6 cruise. A friend was on last weeks fantasy cruise and they did have beautiful decorations in the atrium already.

Well you have to add the 2 hours each way at sea, 1 hour each way in and out of the port, and 1 hour alongside the dock, a lot of fuel at $800.00 per ton. Add in pilots in and out of the harbor. docking fee I am sure the port charged, stevedores tie up the vessel and let go and to load the supply's. Not to forget, I am sure government officials and customs to board the vessel to confirm what they were doing.

It adds up!
