Is anyone else a little concerned with the small amount of time those who are chosen will have to make travel arrangements for the training trip? If we don't receive emails until late next week, interviews will be the week after, so it is very possible the panel won't be notified until after Thanksgiving. If the 12-17th dates are correct for training, that only gives folks about two weeks to make travel arrangements and take off time from work, etc.

Actually, yes, I am concerned. My parents just told me they will not be able to come down and babysit bc it's too close to Christmas and they have lots of church events in Dec. I know I should be able to find coverage for my kids by asking for huge favors from friends but if I don't need to ask yet, I'm not going to pull out those favors yet, ya know?? I hope we have enough time to make arrangements before friends go out of town for Thanksgiving.

Like PP said, I will do everything I can to make it work bc this is a once in a lifetime chance; but I will still need time to get it all together...I'm sure I'm not the only one...

2 of the potential days they gave us are the weekend. So we are looking at 2, maybe 3 days max to find coverage.

I love the idea of going to Disney and having it be planned BY DISNEY! Just think of all the things we would see that we ourselves may not have put on our own radar b/c we normally travel with our families.

I get giddy just thinking about it!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

We will be at WDW the week of Nov 18th. All along I thought we'd find out the panelists that week...but hey, just a little more magic.

Looking forward to next week!

Here's a totally non-Moms Panel related discussion topic for the weekend: When do you start listening to holiday music? I finally gave in today - I typically try to hold off until after my birthday, but really I think anytime after Halloween is fair game. But I do know there are a lot of people who put it off until after Thanksgiving, or even into December.

I figure it's cold here, Starbucks has their red cups available and even Disney has started their holiday season today, so why not? :santa:

Bonus question: Favorite holiday song/album!

Great question!

Last year I started on November 1st and loved it. It's my new tradition. This way I get two + months of my favorite music.

Christian: Hallelujah chorus
Secular: Sleigh Ride
Children's: Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I Hear?, Santa Claus is Coming To Town (plus many more!)
Pop: Rockin Around the Christmas Tree
Funny: Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
Traditional: O Holy Night

And I have tons more Christmas songs I love. That's why I need months to listen to them!

Right now I'm listening to Epcot's Candlelight Processional. Love, love, love it!!!

That is a good point. I've always waited until after Thanksgiving. But, when you think about it Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations, music etc start in September, so why not embrace Christmas sooner.

I will however still wait until 2 weeks before Christmas to put up our tree. :)

Two weeks before Christmas, you may be in WDW this year!!! May need to get it up earlier... (-;

We love Christmas in my family, and according to some research I did online, in the Philippines Christmas season expands any month that ends in "ber". Soooo, since DH is part Filipino, we should have started September 1st, but we held out till November 1st. Lol

And come on, once the red cups are available it's CHRISTMAS! :santa:

:mic: I will only admit this here, because I trust you all not to make fun of me!!!! :rolleyes1 My favorite holiday album is... NSync Christmas! :upsidedow

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Christmas, so I start listening to Christmas music on November 1! We usually put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but this year I'm seriously considering putting it up the week before since Thanksgiving falls so late. I have a Christmas village that I start putting up mid November because not only does it take me about a week to finish it, but our out of town family that we have over for Thanksgiving loves to see it since they don't come back for Christmas. I think I might start on it tomorrow!

My favorite Christmas album is The Carpenters Christmas Portrait because my parents always played it when we decorated our tree growing up. :santa:
The soundtrack to Charlie Brown Christmas is also a favorite around our house!

Ha ha!! I love it!! I'm a huge boy band fan!!

I'm like Marshay, I can't choose just one favorite album!

Billboard Greatest Christmas Hits: 1935-1954 and The Best of the Stars Come Out for Christmas always have heavy rotation, because they are the albums I listened to the most while I was growing up. I also adore Clay Aiken's Christmas Albums (is that more or less embarrassing than N'Sync? :rotfl:)

That is one of my favorite Christmas albums, too!!! :).

I like Christmas, but I really don't like how there is a growing tendency for it to basically stomp on every other holiday from September onward. I understand Christmas stuff having to be in craft & sewing stores by the time school starts, but really, Christmas decorations should not be going up in stores before Halloween actually occurs! (And now we have the Countdown to the Countdown to the Countdown before Christmas.)

I typically hold off on any Christmas music until the morning of Thanksgiving. Then, family tradition is to listen to Alice's Restaurant first, and then Christmas music may begin. (Since Turkey day is so late this year, and since I plan on being gone for a week in Dec, I may relent on this point, and start things early. Guthrie still plays on Turkey Day though.)

It's not me being Grinchy, it's me wanting to celebrate and appreciate each holiday in its own time.

Favorite song is probably either the duet with David Bowie and Bing Crosby, or the Royal Guardsmen "Snoopy's Christmas." (Or the John Denver/Muppets "Silent Night".)

Like I said on FB yesterday in the thread about how quick we could get to the airport, I could literally be there in about 1 1/2 hours. However, with only one day notice I could get all plans laid for my daugther, clothes packed, dogs to the kennel and still get to airport in time for an adult beverage before the plane leaves.

Thanks ;) that was my post

Kae

I usually start occasionally around 11/15, and all out on Thanksgiving. We agree in our family, Christmas starts waaaayyyy too early. I understand about craft stores putting out their items early to allow time to create gifts. We like to celebrate each holiday in its own right. Not being Grinchy either, just our own tradition.

Fave albums include Carpenters Christmas Portrait, Charlie Brown Christmas, George Winston, and many others. But those three get the most attention! :-)

I don't have a problem with the time frame. It will just require more planning. I can see how those with small children or a tough work schedule might have an issue. Maybe the time frame will change for next year with Gary at the helm now. Other things have changed so why not? He seems very considerate of the MP hopefuls and genuinely wants us all to have a great experience whether we are selected or not. Even though any of us would make it work and feel it is completely worth it, maybe if many people do have struggles or conflicts, that could weigh as a factor for next year's process. Anyone have any thoughts? :scratchin

I am really trying not to get my hopes up for this. I have applied every year, & this was my first year to make it to round 2. I can go anytime, so that's not an issue. So I am sitting back and taking it all in.

Plus I will be in Disney the week of Thanksgiving, so either way, I will be ok.

I'm also trying really hard not to get my hopes up. The longer we wait, the more difficult that is. It's so hard not to picture myself on the training trip. And, while I totally agree that is good to be positive and optimistic, the years that I've pictured myself there were also the years that the 'no thank you' was the most difficult to take.

If anyone saw my video, I'm the one who puts up 9 Christmas trees so I have to start early! We always go away for Thanksgiving so I start two weeks before so when we get back everything is done! I always have pandora on usually listening to any Christmas music but the Carol of the bells is my favorite!

The "Peace on Earth" duet of Bowie and Bing is my all-time-favorite Christmas song! I watched when they first aired the duet on Bing Crosby's Christmas Special in 1977. It was a truly amazing and memorable moment ... shortly after they filmed/recorded the Christmas special (because there was no live TV in those days), Bing passed away. So sad :(
