01/02/2014 Disney Magic 3 Night - Miami

Hi - my daughter (18) and I will be on this cruise. It will be our 5th but I just found out about FE's. Can someone explain how it works and who do we sign up with. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Fish Extender Basics 101

Got this off of the DCL FAQ thread. There's more threads next to this one that give you ideas and what has worked in the past.

It's a great way to see the interior parts of the ship that you wouldn't normally seek out.

Yes, though there were only about 60 TA/media invites - the rest were regular guests.

Did you see/meet Corey Martin, Kevin or anyone from the DisUnplugged Podcast Crew? I was listening to their review last night as they were there too.

I guess the corkscrew slide is a family slide and not just for kids. I was surprised to hear that.

Pershing- thanks for the link. For a 3 night cruise how many gifts are we supposed to leave? And- do you usually give the same gift to everyone or do you modify them per the age of the cruiser? Sorry for all of the questions, but am excited to participate and want to do it correctly.

By the way, we're from Florida. :)

Ok, I thought I opened access, I will check when I turn my computer on, on roll call it just had me and my mom, but my dad is coming too.(don't want him to be left out.) I will turn my computer on earlier tomorrow morning, to do a google doc, you don't need a gmail account.

Hi all!
This is our first time reaching out via the forums to those who will be on our cruise. There will be 4 of us on the cruise: me & the hubs, and my 2 dds 9 (and a half!) and 6.
We are so excited for the cruise & now the girls are even more excited that we will get to do the fish extender exchange.
What can we do to get involved?

Jo

:welcome: First time Disney Cruising or first time posting on the Dis Cruise Thread? Getting Involved in the Fish Extender Exchange is easy. I just add you to the list.

It really is up to you. I know that doesn't help, but there is no right or wrong. Over our seven Disney cruises we have gotten one thing from some people and then others gave each day. I do one family gift usually unless there are little ones and then I give something small specific to girl or boy.

I've learned that FE can get overwhelming packing room wise if you go to big. You don't want to be bringing an extra suitcase just for FE!

Some people have represented where they're from like Maple Syrup from Vermonter's or what they do-welders gave us all Mickey Shaped key chains that I still use. Some people give practical gifts like band aids, highlighters for the Navigator. One guy gave cheap extention cords cause the lack of outlets in the cabins was such a pet peeve to him. Another guy gave us all little bottles of vodka 'cause he was always posting about drinking.

Whatever you do, DON'T let FE take over your vacation. Keep it simple and representitive of you! Don't forget to label it from you. Some people get so involved they forget, and if you upgrade at the port, don't forget to leave a sign on your old cabin directing people to the new cabin number. :grouphug:

It's me. It's really me. Each year I fall further and further behind the tech curve. :badpc:

Dh and I are definitely interested in private mixology class!

Yay, now we have three! As soon as we get to 25, I will ask for names and cabin numbers to be pm'd to me and I'll book it!

btw About the extention cord issue. The Disunplugged Re-imagined Magic Review also said outlets were added near the beds' headboard for easy charging and reading in bed! :cheer2: DCL does listen sometimes.

i saw the Facebook page but i dont want to click on it and have our daughter see on my FB page that i " liked" a january 2nd Magic cruise. They will be made aware on dec 25th only of this cruise.

Any FB expert could help me trying to fallow you on Fb without being discover by our daughter :badpc:

It is our first time posting, but this will be our third cruise. The first two were Dream April 2011 & Fantasy August 2012.

We looooove the Disney Cruises! But I really had no idea that there was a way to get to know others who were also going on the same cruise.

Anyone have a dd around age 9-10? My younger (6yo) daughter can make friends with anyone, anywhere, but my older one is more socially hesitant. It would be nice for her to have a friendly face onboard.

Also - What age is a good age for giving your child independent ship roaming privileges? Thinking that since this is our third cruise, and dd is 9.5 that it may be time for this mama to let go a bit...

My DS is 9.5 too and is super friendly, I am sure if we introduce them they can ride the waterslides etc.. together. We have a DD who is 4.5 and is also very outgoing when in the shadow of her brother. :cutie:

I am still not comfortable letting my son run around the ship on his own, I am too anal about safety.

That sounds great!

Re: independence - I am thinking that we might do a trial run at the arcade for a set period & if that goes well, maybe slowly expand priviliges.

I am so happy that we have found this board :yay:

I'm not by any means a Facebook expert, but are you friended with your daughter? Is that the issue?

I don't have this issue 'cause my boys tune out to anything I say. To the point where we're standing in front of the castle and one will ask, "hey, are we doing a cruise after the parks this time?" :headache: It's like hellooooo...echo..echoo...I'm talking about our trip but nobody's listening.:listen:

Do you have a smartphone? 'Cause that would be a way of hiding it if you're afraid of leaving the page open on your computer. But if you're friended with her-dunno how to help.

I only use my facebook page to garner coupons. My page reads like this, 'Sue likes Campbell soup' 'Sue eats Wholly Guacomole' 'Sue buys pilsbury crescent rolls'. I don't want to subject anyone else to that!

Although I might change my pictures on my page. Some of our other thread members have beautiful pics of the Dream and Fantasy on their Facebook page and I feel left out.

LOL :rotfl2: I was thinking this too!!! My cover page is the Disney Dream but my profile picture is me feeding some chickadees. I noticed that many of our Dis friends have their Disney pix as their profile shot. They look great.

I would love to join the Facebook page, but I am still pending approval. Is there someone I should message directly with my real name so that I can join in?

:confused3

Yeah, go ahead and message me. I tried it out and it does give me the ability to add a person to the group. We will see if that's enough.

Has anyone been able to add info to the FE google doc list. I haven't tried with my gmail address yet but could not figure out how to do it w/o it.

Anyone else freaking out about how fast October went!:moped: I only have the cruise all set. The rest of the trip is still undone. I figure I'm gonna go in the order of the trip. :drive: car > gas > tolls > tickets (Disney, Universal, Gaylord Palms Ice Show- hotels will have to be pricelined, hot wired, or last minute traveled with the exception of one night at Royal Pacific for the Express Pass and food will be packed up from home and stuck in the truck which will bum out the boys 'cause vacation to them means junk food. I do have $200 in Disney Gift cards for Crystal Palace and Sci-fi Diner reservations. I made them to maybe help us from being blocked from entering the park due to closure stages. :crowded:We are also gonna buy Park Hoppers for the same reason, which we haven't done in years.

Normally I've done more research for a trip but I'm so behind the curve on trip planning that it's I'm continuing to put it off instead of attacking it.

The only thing I'm focusing on is how nice the cruise is gonna be.

I have got to stop reading threads describing the "horrors" of the first two sailings.
Disney always pulls it together, right?:scared:
