The not so live version of dining w/ Disers, in Castles & on Safari! The Wrap! 2/26

Nice table!! :) Everything looks pretty yummy to me, even though I'm a picky eater. (says the girl who tried at least a bite of everything we got at food & wine. Oh disney...what magic is this?!)

Hi Jennifer! It was a pretty great location. No one to our right and no one behind us unless you include the people in the boats! ;)

I saw that you were recently at F&W, I want to hear about it. :) (your quote makes for a great TR title by the way.)

So sorry that I just noticed you had a link to your D23 Trip. I'd love to hear about that as well. You just have so many trips girl!

Another DIS meet? You truly are the queen! And I will bow down to you when I see you in December. :lmao::lmao:

I may be the only one that conjures up images of old musty books when I eat goat cheese but I'm not a fan

I had a lot of catching up to do on this thread, but this really stuck out to me, because I have just never been able to acquire a taste for goat cheese, and this sentence so perfectly puts my distaste into words. Old musty books, that's IT, that is what that funky taste is! :lmao:

Too bad about the cruise but looks like you all had fun.
I cannot wait to meet Kathy and mark in December.
Tusker House is my favorite character meal.
I have had that burger at GFC and it was very good.
I liked Boma better for breakfast than dinner.
I have always been curious about San Angel. Might have to try it someday.
Looked like a fun day in DLR.

I'm trying to keep up with you my dear! :rolleyes1

Kathy we had a blast!
Agreed Lori! Thank you again for meeting up and letting Em and me hang out with you. If I wasn't so chatty we could have done more than a couple rides.

Hi Becky! Ha ha! Glad I could help you put your finger on that one!

I think this is a taste that you either love or try to figure out why it tastes like an old attic. :rotfl:

Day 5: Tues. August 20, 2013
Yachtsman Steakhouse Dinner

DSCN5354.jpg

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a relatively new favorite of ours. We dined here for the first time last summer. We were impressed enough to return in February, so this was our 3rd time dining at YSH. Ricardo was our server that first visit and ever since we have requested him. (He gave me his contact information so that we can email him in advance of our trip and let him know our dining date/time and he always has a table waiting.)

At 8:15 we were seated for our 8pm dining reservation so we had a short wait; however, we occupied ourselves with gawking at the meat selections in the meat locker. Once we were seated, we were greeted with hugs and smooches from Richard. We noticed that he had once again welcomed us with a Disney postcard that had a sweet greeting.

We placed our drink orders, a Bloody Mary for me and Florida water for Em. (She was drinking a lot of tea this trip so I thought she may order it here which would have been cool since they serve it with a small pitcher of simple syrup for sweetening.)

Kathy (KatMark) and Mark were dining at YSH tonight so I had texted them to ask if they were still eating. They had been served their entrees so I said to let me know when they were between courses. Kathy responded that I could come say hello then instead of waiting. I snuck over to their table and chatted briefly and glad that I could be their personal anniversary celebration photographer!

Back at our table Ricardo stopped by because we had a little something for him as a send-off for his vacation. He is a huge Beatles fan and was leaving the next day to go to England for a fan expo.

Heres where I admit that I really dont need an appetizer at this place since the onion rolls are so amazingly delicious that they take on that role!! Seriously though, I dont have them bother with any other bread just give me some of those rolls. If they ever start charging for them, I would gladly pay. They serve the rolls with roasted garlic and a disc of salted butter. The garlic is ok but those buttery delicious rolls are only made that much better by another layer of fresh butter.

Next we had to actually decide what to order. The menu had been changed since February and they no longer offered the short ribs. In reality, I was glad that option was removed since I wouldn't have tried something new. I had read Vicki's (GoofySonsmom) live review from earlier in the week and seen that Andrew had the hanger steak which looked decent. Let's go with that medium rare please. However, still under the influence of Vicki, I subbed the twice baked potato for the truffle fries like she had with her order.

The beef was marinated and had a smoky beachy BBQ type flavor which was EXCEPTIONAL! The garlic and herb butter was the perfect complement to the steak. The twice baked potato with the broiled crusty top was perfectly cheesy and flavorful. Again, a great option. The salad was a refreshing touch with the fresh peach slices. I don't recall how the salad was dressed but it was light and subtle.

Em ordered the 16 oz. Rib Eye for the second time. No subs for the bone marrow which surprised me since she didn't touch it last time.

Again, Em was delighted with this entrée choice and even tried the bone marrow. Not her thing but I have to give her credit for at least trying it. That's more than I would do. One other note, she's not a huge bleu cheese fan so the cheese butter on top wasn't necessarily something she enjoyed. She ate ½ of the rib eye and had the rest boxed for later.

When Kathy and Mark had finished their dinner they came over to say their good-byes. We posed for a girls photo. Poor Mark didn't have a chance to object once I shoved my phone in his hand.

As we were finishing our entrees Ricardo's section thinned out as many folks had already finished dining. He had some more time to chat while we were deciding if we wanted dessert. Who am I kidding? There was crème brulee on the menu so of course we ordered that to share. It was served with fresh berries and did not disappoint.

Dessert Menu:

Ricardo was kind enough to present us with a complimentary dessert sampler tray that contained 5 little sweet morsels. I'm not sure if I recall what all of these were but we had seen this before last summer when we were celebrating our anniversary.

DSCN5389.jpg

From left to right, here's what was on the plate. First, a Grand Marnier marshmallow yum! I tried to split it with Em but it kept sticking to my spoon whenever I tried to give her half. The second item was a light airy chocolaty tid bit. Not sure?? Moving on...third was a chocolate peanut butter treat. Fourth was my favorite, a passion fruit candied jelly. It was wonderfully tart and delicious! And finally, a dark chocolate truffle. Em was free to have that since I won't arm wrestle anyone for chocolate.

We ended up chatting with Ricardo and the assistant waiter Derrick until we were the only patrons left. Hmmm....a repeat of the safari breakfast? In my defense, they were more chatty than me so I was just being polite. Yeah, truly.

Using our TiW card we saved $19.35.

I wanted a final photo with Ricardo and he suggested out by the pool area.

Again, a truly fabulous dining experience. Im looking forward to seeing Ricardo and dining at YSH in December.

Next Up: Club Level Breakfast

What a delicious looking meal from yachtsman. I love a good twice baked potato! It's really neat that you are friends with Ricardo. I wish I was at WDW often enough to know CMs like that! Lol ;-)

San Angel: I've cancelled two reservations there now. The food makes me nervous, I'm not really one for Mexican! But the pyramid and the atmosphere are so awesome I have to give it a go some time. Your meals looked good, glad you enjoyed your experience.
Yachtsman: mmmm everything looks fantastic! I love that you have favourite waiters who you request, that's just so cool. The dessert sampler looks yummy. I WOULD arm wrestle for chocolate! Love the pics with Ricardo outside!

Hi Brenda! I've been catching up this morning on your dining reviews. You're making me so hungry!

I'm glad you and Em tried San Angel Inn. It's funny because the last time we ate there we had the exact same table and we also didn't get chips and salsa.

Loved your Yachtsman review. We must try it. Chase would die for that crème brulee.

Looking forward to hearing about Monsieur Paul.

I'm not sure how I missed your update this morning when I checked, but I've read it now. I must confess I look forward to your yachtsman reviews! Riccardo just seems like a lot of fun and eager to ensure you have a wonderful time. Just want to pick him up out of the pictures and put him in my pocket! Lol DH would def not approve of that move and Riccardo would prob object as well. Being in a strangers pocket w/ who knows what, yeah no thanks! Anywho, I am def adding our first trip to the yachtsman on our next trip if only just to hopefully have the pleasure of meeting your friend Riccardo and the onion rolls! Wonderful review and glad you were just in time to catch up before his trip!! Wonder if he scheduled his trip for the day after you ladies dined just so he had the pleasure of seeing you two again! :)

Wow another great report. We dined at YSH in March for our anniversary and had a truly wonderful evening. The food and service were outstanding. I must agree with you about those onion rolls, I too would pay for them.

What a wonderful review, Brenda. We, like you, love Yachtsman and Mary and I are going to take the girls in May/June and Mark and I will definitely be back in August. Those onion rolls are worth going for alone, but the meal is always great as well.

Thank you for being our photographer; and Mark has learned NOT to ask questions, just do as he is told. :lmao::lmao:

The pictures of you with Ricardo are excellent. And we ran into him as we exited the restaurant and introduced ourselves as your friends. He said to ask for him the next time we were there.

Oh man, that place looks sooooooo good! You guys are so sweet to give Ricardo a beatles gift! Good taste in music, Ricardo! I hope he had a great time! I want to go to that restaurant even more now. The rolls alone look amazing!

Ok, enough with my exclamation points. ;)

Not sure if I've posted here yet or not! I've always wanted to eat at San Angel. We don't do the dining plan though, since my parents own a timeshare offsite, and the prices are so high. Next time, whenever that may be, I will get over it. My daughter is at the age of being afraid of characters, so we have some time before we go. Going to try Sesame Place this summer and see how it goes.

Brenda, Awesome, Awesome and again Awesome review of Yachtsman. I have only been there one time and that was back in 2009. I had an ADR at Yachtsman for our trip in December but changed it to the Flying Fish instead. I have never tried Flying Fish and hope I did not make a mistake. You can bet when we go back to WDW in June 2014, Yachtsman will not be passed over again... Oh, did I say, Awesome review. ;)

Hi Jill! A twice baked potato doesn't really sound like it goes so well with a steakhouse but it was very good.

Ricardo was awesome from our first visit so he gave us his card to contact him for future visits. Such a nice guy.

We cancelled SAI in the past too Wendy. Too many scary reviews. I was glad that we kept this ADR since the atmosphere was very nice.

Thanks, Ricardo really made our dining experience very nice. You wouldn't have to arm wrestle me for that chocolate, I'd gladly give it to you! :flower3:

Hi Rachel! Welcome back from your trip. I was following your live reviews.

hmmm... maybe there is something twighlight zone-ish about that table. :rolleyes1

I wouldn't want to see Chase die eating the crème brulee but I would think he'd be very happy with it!! :rotfl2:

I'm looking forward to sharing our Monsieur Paul dinner. A certain Frenchman will be featured.

Hi there! I'm glad you didn't miss the review entirely... then you wouldn't be commenting and I wouldn't be responding. :) Ricardo is wonderful.

Actually, our timing wasn't that great. We originally made our ADR while Ricardo was on vacation so he asked if I could rebooked. Thankfully, that worked out.

Wow another great report. We dined at YSH in March for our anniversary and had a truly wonderful evening. The food and service were outstanding. I must agree with you about those onion rolls, I too would pay for them.

Hi Ron and Tina! Ahhh another YSH fan! Glad you enjoyed it. It's always fun to compare dining notes. Seriously? Why order an appetizer when they serve the rolls.

Hi there fellow YSH diner! I really need to plan a 2014 trip to return. And I need to bring Michael! He liked this place last year.

Totally agreed about those onion rolls. I don't recall if they serve other breads or not since we only asked for the onion rolls.

Glad to know that Mark is so well trained. Kudos to you!

I can give you Ricardo's contact information if you want to email him ahead of time to ask for him.

Hi Jennifer! I know! A sweet guy who loves the Beatles - what a combo!

The rolls are amazing!!!!!!!!!! There, I'm done with the exclamation points too. :rotfl2:

Hi KristinAnne. Agreed! The dining plan has gotten so expensive. It's a bit crazy to think that 3 beef tacos are $21. At least you get some rice and beans with that. ;)

That would be funny if Sesame Place had a dining review board! You could weigh in on Elmo's Eatery. :lmao: Good luck with trying that this summer.

I'm so jealous you guys had such a great experience at YSH! Ricardo sounds like such an awesome server! I really wish we had better service and we're excited to go back, because the food really is fantastic!

I just ate at YS last Friday after reading your reviews! The food was fantastic although my server was rather condescending....it wasn't Ricardo though!

Jill in CO

Loving your reviews. We're trying to decide whether we can make it to WDW early next year, and you're helping me decide where we would eat :lmao:
