Budget Car Rental-New Fee?

I just booked a return car for our cruise in May. The rate was $34.00 for a one way rental from Cape Canaveral dropping off at MCO. But then when it added taxes and fee's went up to $54.00.

The big one was $9.99 return port access fee that the Budget in Cape Canaveral is tacking on. I went back and looked at my last three years rentals from them, the charge was not on a single one.

I just looked and it looks like we were charged this for our Trip this weekend too from Dollar. Our Charge was 10.12 one way fee. I was wondering why the cost was so high but, never really looked at all the fees.

I remember when i rented from Avis and returned to DTD, they had a sign that said i needed to show my receipt for the gas. Could it be your were charged for not filling your tank?

Or that is a new fee they have added on to return the cars back to the port.

Just a thought.

No, it is clearly a fee Budget is adding to the bill for their shuttle service. This is for a rental in May 2014.

Just did a MCO to PC rental (12/4->12/8) and looking at the invoice I don't see any extra charge for shuttle service, just the usual added fees.

Odd, I have 2 reservation for Budget for January. both 1 way. Pre & post cruise neither have the charge on the confirmation.

But it doesn't surprise me. More and more companies are charging one way fees.

My dollar reservation looked awesome. Base rate was great. Then once I hit continue it tacked on a $35 on-way rental fee. Ouch! Sorry Dollar thats just a bit too much!

Hmmm...I just went on budget to do a dummy reservation and its not coming up for me.

Go back into your reservation and make sure you have chosen the right pick up address.

8401 Astronaut Blvd, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920, United States

Been getting cars from Budget since our first cruise in 2006. Always use them due to fast break service. I'm out of the airport and at port in under an hour.
Every year prior taxes/fees were less then $5 total. I realized they have to now pay $5 per trip to the port, but $10 for each rental seems excessive.

Just reconfirmed rate:

It must have something to do with their fast break service because no matter reservations I try to do there isn't that fee on any of them.

You must drive fast :moped: cause it's a 45 min drive to the port on a good traffic day! J/k
I understand what you mean. It doesn't take as long to pick up your vehicle.

I believe Hertz is the only one without a one-way fee. Of course, they are one of the pricier rental agencies as well, but if you are a AAA member or have a discount code you can work that number down.

Budget does not have a 1 way fee either on their normal reservations.
Dollar's was $35. when I checked. Thats just crazy!

Breakdown of my Budget invoice from a 12/4->12/8 MCO to Port Canaveral one way rental for a mini van:

Daily = $153.00
Tire Battery Fee = $.08
Veh License Recoup = $3.12
Customer Facility Chg = $10.00
Energy Recovery Fee = $2.40
State Surcharge = $8.00
10% Concession Recovery Fee = $15.62
FTP Sur = $3.00
Sales Tax = $12.69

No where is there a shuttle fee shown. And yes I used FastBreak at MCO.

There is no shuttle fee when renting from MCO dropping of at CC5(Cape Canaveral). Only when a car is picked up at CC5 does the charge appear. Budget does not charge any one way fees.

Last years rate when picking up at Cape Canaveral dropping off at MCO. No 9.99 fee.

Make sure you use the correct Budget Rental location code. CC5 I believe is for cruises and ZC5 is just dropping off at that location. Both I believe are the same virtual location but CC5 is for cruises. I am new to this, so I believe that is correct from what I have read. If someone can confirm that, it would be great.

We had this same problem in Feb and went to the Fastbreak counter in MCO to speak with the gal and she said as of October 2014 (I think it was Oct), they have instituted a "port charge" for every rental that originates at the port. It is much like the additional 11% hotel/visitor tax that some states charge.
