Our little thread of BIG changes, the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

UH OH! Didn't you buy your airfare?? I am lost!!:rotfl:

I did, but it's through Southwest, so I can just change it once August fares come out. :goodvibes

Yeah, after we did all of that, DH got word that the only other person in his office, (who is currently in the middle of a 7 month deployment and getting back in March), was planning on doing a Disney cruise with his family the week we wanted to go....

He's deployed, he will need the vacation more than us....I would want DH's fellow soldiers to give us the same consideration...so they can go. We've got August. :wizard:

Ahhh that makes sense. :thumbsup2 Yes I bet that family does need a vacation badly. That is great about Southwest isn't it?? I like knowing the option is there if we needed to change. :goodvibes

Yup! Thank God that's what I booked because I almost did Jet Blue! Well, at least our airfare is purchase and I don't have to think about shelling out that money later...:rotfl:

And I'll admit, I was a bit worried about the Mine Train not being done in time for April....August I should be all good.

Plus, when I got the invoice for April, seeing a higher daily rate for WL CL than what I was getting at GF CL for August kind of made me

Ahem...well, that was short lived.... (note Ticker change)

:upsidedow

I was worried at first, but now it seems like GF CL was meant to be!
And I understand about needing to let the 'other guy' take a vacation! AND, now you can focus on the mine train!!!

Mine Train!!!! Our whole justification for next years trip...:p Would have been crazy if it wasn't open yet!

Plus...and this would ONLY be my child....when DD9 found out about April, she was happy, and then immediately sad, because it meant she would have to miss 2 days of school...which meant she would not be eligible for the perfect attendance trophy....It wasn't anything that she wanted me to cancel the trip over, but she was very upset about it.

Problem solved. ;)

:faint: :faint: :faint: Oh boy, am I really finally popping up on page 9 on the new thread?? Sheesh it has been too long. Work is pretty busy and I've meant to get on here to catch up for over a week now.

Well my birthday bash was just super! We did it all "crazy-like" but it was what we wanted to do, and it worked. Just DH and I stayed at the SSR Treehouse:
  • After checking in Friday at SSR and taking lots of pictures of the awesome Treehouse, we took our leisurely resort boat from the Treehouse to DtD, and ate Holiday Sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich. Hot damn, I can't get enough of those little buggers. :cloud9:
  • Then we were off to the CR marina to meet our pontoon boat for my birthday HalloWishes boat ride. It was waiting for us sporting a Happy Bday banner for me thanks to DH. We always enjoy this pontoon boat excursion, and it was perfect weather that night. The only bad part of our trip was that all the traffic lights were out at DtD. :scared: It took us over an hour to get to CR. It was kinda stressful. :rolleyes1 I don't think Wishes would have waited for us. ;) But I am sure glad we planned accordingly and allowed plenty of time to stroll around CR for a while before our boat ride. Our boat operator tacked on extra time after Wishes for us since we missed the first 15 minutes of our rental. :goodvibes
  • Later we went back to SSR and toured the resort, and had a snack at Artist's Palatte. We met a interesting couple also from Sarasota (she commutes to work at WDW in California!) and talked to them for quite a while. We really, really liked the relaxed vibe there at SSR. It immediately felt like home. We look forward to staying at a studio there again one day soon.
  • Next morning, we hung out our our deck, drank coffee, and waved at the boats for waaaay to long. When we finally got moving we went to AK, and did Flame Tree BBQ "breakfast" snack for the first time (thanks JanetB). The weather was perfect for AK with lots of animals out and about as it was our first (short-lived) nice day of the season.
  • We left WDW :scared1: and drove to Titusville on the east coast for late lunch at my very very very favorite Dixie Crossroads restaurant. OMG, the royal red shrimps and the rock shrimp are to die for like you've never had shrimp before. We regularly drive across state just to eat there. For any one interested here, I highly recommend it. :thumbsup2
  • We drove back to WDW, shopped the monorail line and then went to the late Hoop-de-Doo dinner show.
  • After Hoop, we boated to MK. They were open late so we got to do some fave rides and had a Bday Dole Whip!
  • Sunday we did a Capt. Grille breakfast Sunday and strolled my fave boardwalk before it got too hot (hey, where'd the cool weather go???). Then we popped over to DHS and did Toy Story Mania before we hit the road.
  • A very very nice weekend. And then for the icing on my birthday cake, I got to see my BFF from N.J. late Sunday for dinner and a sunset airboat ride down in Ft Myers area. We did a LOT of driving this weekend, but all for a good cause... me! :lmao:

FYI, we cancelled CG or this time, but we'll be able to watch Wishes from our dinner table for our next CR ADR in Feb/Mar. We wouldn't have seen Wishes this time since it was a Halloween Party night and HalloWishes started later (oooops, I forgot this juicy tidbit when I booked this CG 7pm ADR).

So... I must catch up with all of you now from the end of the last thread. :coffee: But let me just send quickies to:

MISSOUTANDABOUT: This is the fourth WDW vacation I have you taking this year alone, but I think I FINALLY have it right this time: :rotfl: You are going to WDW!!!!!!! So if I don't get back here before you go, have a MAGICAL VACATION!!!!!!! :wizard:

stepdisney: Hi, it is so nice to "see" you! :flower3: I so understand about your parents health issues. I am going through trying times with mine as well. As far as resorts: I've logged many PO stays, and it always feels like home when we arrive there. :goodvibes The POR food court is best in the land as food courts go. The pool area is great for August with lots of shady areas to beat the heat. AND who knows, you may just make a RC or two before August. :rolleyes1 ;)

LillianGracey: Hannah, welcome back!!!! I am thrilled to see you here and am so happy for your WONDERFUL news. :bride: :groom:

Hannah: Are you going to try and miss that Columbus day weekend? The crowds sound CRAZY. This'll be our first time in Oct. We normally go in Sept. so it'll be interesting to compare the heat now to when we usually are there.

Sheila: You are so right -- It's coming up TOO SOON! My lists are great and all but these cubes aren't packing themselves. Have you been looking at the temps down there?

Candace: Ahhh. That's a nice change. When's the mine train due to finish?

Did I miss your birthday! If so I am soooooooo sorry!

Ooh berry cobbler sounds divine too! That is my middle DD, she did that pic herself on the iPad!

No way... didn't miss it! I was just incognito about it... thank you, pal. Need to see if I have any topping to turn into crumble.

Also, I'm going to see if G-ma will stump up the dough for that Miss M Christmas purchase. :rolleyes1 Is that awful?

Awwww, you had a BRILLIANT birthday celebration! Belated wishes to you and our Koh. What other Libra am I missing? :grouphug: We just got silly heirloom apples and went to one of my favorite breweries for my shindig -- positively pedestrian compared to yours! :worship:

Magic & Jeanette: Figured I'd share this with you two, I took a quiz earlier about which state most reflects your attitude and got New Jersey. :lmao: :lmao: So, what does that say about me?

Step: Did you make that change? popcorn::

Dimndgal1: Another MD -- albeit transplanted elsewhere -- gal here. :cheer2:

----------------------

It's snowing here. Can you believe that? That FL sunshine is going to come as a HUGE shock to the system

Did a quick run by Target for some schtuffs for the trip. (I didn't need any laundry detergent though, Sheila... I checked after I read that. :rotfl: )

:wave2: Hello! I'm fairly new to RC board, but had to ask about the Treehouses!!! We're considering them for our trip with DH's family. We would need 3 rooms or 2 Treehouses, and his family is VERY outdoorsy, so we're thinking of doing either WL or the TV... since his family is very picky, I don't see much room changing once we decide, either.

Glad you had a great birthday trip!!!

:wave2: Hello fellow MDer! It's funny, I lived in MD most of my life, and met DH who was in the military... he drug me all over (including the middle of the Pacific) just to end up an hour away from 'home'. It's been very fortunate, though, to have my folks within a short drive. Not to mention the fact they get quality grandbaby time!!!

I saw that you normally go to WDW in September, so I was hoping to get your experience!!! This is my first Sept trip EVER -- when we had APs, we got them the last week of October and moved the last week of August. I was torn between Columbus Week (F&W!!!) and the middle of September (lower crowds) - DD has 3 days off Columbus week, two days off in Sept. so I had less guilt about missing school. We decided on Sept because the crowds were lower and prices are lower... and because the first month of a new fiscal year seems to be CRAZY!!!!

Anyway, other than hurricanes (which DH is a magnet for so I'm already prepared for it no matter when we go) and humidity, how is Sept?

It's so funny you write that!!! I have to take older DD to a specialty appointment Friday and she has to miss school. I purposely picked a half day because they tend to be review or 'easy' days. She was DEVASTATED when I told her. "But Mommy, WHY? Can't I go and then leave?" "Honey, you'd be in school for 15 minutes!" "But it's an important 15 minutes!"

... I hope she's this enthused for high school as she is first grade.

Snow! :scared1:

It's funny because I totally woke up from a dream this morning that the ground was covered...

Disney has officially said "Early 2014" and "Spring 2014" as far as the opening for the Mine Train... We know how secretive Disney likes to be about stuff, so hedging my bets on it being done for April was a little worrisome...:rolleyes1

I think August is a much better bet! :thumbsup2

Hi! :) I just wanted to pop in and say....I've been in Jan 2008 - beautiful weather, Sept 2009 (over Labour day/ and until Sept 12, 2009), FEB 2011/ not bad weather, and Oct 2012 over Columbus day weekend.....rainy, and sunny.. and crowds where higher than I liked..... October/Columbus day was hot. seemed to hit alot of rain showers. I don't know if I'd go again around Columbus Day. September...WOW!! was that hot!! just as hot as the summer, but the crowds where pretty manageable.
I think out of all the times I've gone, I've liked my Janauary trip the best.... it was over Martin Luther King day week in January/ 2008, but it was wonderful! We even went to a water park one day! The only downside is the shorter park hours, and refurbs....but we have been other times of the year so we are lucky to know what Splash Mountain is like, LOL.... I am now going in 42 days on my FIRST December trip!!! so Excited to be meeting up with Jeanette, Janet , Linda, Rosie, Melissa, and perhaps some other favourite RCer friends.-- Deena, and Linda/ Magic if they can come! It sounds like it'll be pretty busy with how hard it is to even change a room, or make and ADR, everything is pretty booked solid! I will reserve judgement for this week of the year (DEC 3-9) until I come home! I am wondering myself how to pack and what to wear! I don't have many summer clothes so it will be fun to see what I might wear!
I hate crowds, and I hate extreme heat, so I think January/ Maybe even November might be the best times for me..... Hoping for lovely weather in December :)

We really enjoyed the low crowds. :thumbsup2 Short wait times for almost everything. The only thing I don't care for at that time of year is the chance of real rain. When we went the first year, we had fabulous weather. The second year was wonderful. Last year, we paid for it. Not just a passing FL shower... real rain on quite a few of the days and since we don't take very long trips, it was a bit :crazy2:

The only other time of year we've gone was once in January and once at the beginning of June. June was :scared: :crazy2: for us. January was  I was really worried it was going to be super-busy but we found the crowds to be very low... we were pleasantly surprised.

Snow! :scared1:

Yep, August is a winner. Now you won't have to worry. :goodvibes

Snow's all gone and now we're getting sleet... though it's supposed to get below freezing and I don't do so well on ice. :rotfl: Maybe I'll scoot on my tuchus all the way to school tomorrow. :scratchin

That is exactly what I want to miss. I don't want my family to deal with those crowds on their only weekend there. It sounds miserable! :sad2:

I'm considering getting married at the Swan and Dolphin. You get a lot more bang for your buck, but no annual passes which means more money for DFi and I to spend on the Disneymoon. It's not set in stone, but when I was going through Passporter's Guide to Disney Weddings, I had to give it a thought. Plus there is no guest limit so if any other family members wanted to come, they could. We shall see how it works out. I'll probably still go with a DFTW, but the weddings at the Swan and Dolphin sound enticing. Especially for the cost.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to cancel. :sad1:

DS10 went to bed with a 103 fever that I just can't get down and DD2 is still up because she can't breathe when she lays down. The other boys aren't doing much better either

Maybe by some stroke of odd luck they will all be fine tomorrow, but I just don't see it.

The only good news is that our flights are SW so no penalties. I've already got my eye on 12/18-12/25. The idea of Christmas morning in WDW is somewhat taking the sting out of losing F&W and MNSSHP. Somewhat. :sad2: Maybe a nice CM will take pity on me and let me change my MNSSHP for MVMCP tix?

Sorry for the me, me, me post. I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

Awe! I heart, so sorry to hear! Hoping your crew feels better ASAP! You're BRAVE to consider Christmas! How wonderful to celebrate in Disney, but those crowds scare me! I couldn't do it! I'm hoping I survive Dec 3-9!!!!!
Feel better vibes sent your way!!!
(((Hugs)))

Ahhh, I_Heart... I hope they feel better soon. :( Poor kiddos. Big hugs to them and you. Sending you good thoughts always.

I_heart - so sorry to hear about the kiddos :( whatever has been going around has just been nasty. Sarah started another round of antibiotic injections yesterday after being on an oral course for over a week. I have been waking up every 2 hours monitoring her fever because it spikes so fast when the Motrin wears off (hence why I am posting at 2am). I know it's hard to cancel but if they are all feeling so crappy the last thing you want to do is get on a plane and go to a place that is wall to wall people. Oh poor kiddos and mommy!! Big HUGS!!!!
