laptops in suitcases

We are leaving on the Dream in the morning and are packing from our WDW resort. We have laptops and we don't want to leave them in the hot car nor do we want to carry them on. Would there be a problem placing them in our suitcases? I ask to just be sure. I don't want any problems with boarding or our luggage. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't trust that someone wouldn't take it or that it wouldn't be damaged the way the luggage is handled. Have you seen the pictures of the luggage piled in the mid-ship storage areas before it goes to the guest rooms?

I have seen luggage end up in the water and delivered wet. It sucks but carrying it on is best.

Carry it. You'll be glad you did.

Are you driving home from the cruise? Will you have a chance to get back to the resort after the cruise? If so, talk to Bell Services about storing the laptops with them. (you'll need a bag for them, though) We stayed at POR pre-cruise in February, and stored a couple bags with them while we were gone. We weren't returning to POR to stay after, but that wasn't a problem. Got off the cruise, got our rental car, drove to POR and picked them up, then went on to our Universal resort.

Putting them in your checked baggage is a very bad idea. They would have a better chance of survival in a hot car. I carry on my laptop and just put it in a backpack made to carry a laptop. It really wasn't a big deal for me to put on the backpack with the laptop in it, and pull my carry on suitcase behind me until our room was ready.

We checked our daughter's suitcase on our last cruise and they broke a metal support bar in the suitcase if that gives you any idea of how rough of a ride the checked bags go through before they arrive at your room. I would only check a lap top if it was designed to survive being ran over by a semi. 10 times.

Thank you for all your help. We have a laptop shoulder bag for it so we are going to carry it on. Thanks again!

Seriously? By in the water......do you mean ocean or rain? And how wet exactly? GULP!

They may have been rained on or had drinks in people's checked luggage leak on them. I've never heard of luggage actually dropped in the water, but I guess it *could* happen.

A CPU can run at 150 or hotter during normal operations. I think a laptop in a car has more to fear from a thief than from heat.

I've heard of it on cruisecritic but I don't know what cruise lines. They do have to get the bags on the ship though, so if something goes awry with that process it could end up in water.

There is footage somewhere of luggage falling in the water, I have seen it. Not good. Can't imagine starting our cruise that way!

I would never ever put something valuable like a laptop in a checked bag.

I have seen a pallet of luggage go over the side at the terminal when they were loading....this was in the very beginning of DCL but a forklift carrying a pallet of luggage when right off the pier (the pallet of luggage not the forklift).
