HAVING A GRAND OLD TIME! The 2013 Grand Floridian Resort & Villas FAQ

This is one of minniesota's shots of the balcony/view from queen deluxe 4422, I'm still looking for her interior photos.

Remember when we were having that discussion about the standard rooms in RPC, and whether there were king std. rooms? Here are photos of one of those rooms near a king deluxe, overlooking the beach pool.

Glad you got the right description in the confirmation, yay! I know what you mean about online vs. phone, I've had that experience in the past and had to say, "but I can see it online!":teeth:

Thanks for the pic....that is my favorite view :cloud9:.

I kept telling the CM I was seeing the opposite online and she couldn't understand why either....very strange.

Finally, success!:dance3: Here are some photos of minniesota's stay in room 4422, the option 2 version of the queen deluxe rooms (prior to 2007 renovations, so old decor).

And some photos from johnsonet, too.

Glad you found them....thanks :goodvibes.

I'm a GF lover, but certainly no expert (yet)! So I have a question: are there any Queen deluxe TPV rooms in RPC?

DD is 14 1/2 and, given the option of a vacation in lieu of a big Sweet 16 party, wants to take her BFF with us for that special trip when the time comes. I want to stay RPC and will need the extra space, but would love to see Wishes from the balcony (that RPC TPV surprise upgrade in 2011 has spoiled me for good!)...so, anyone know if there are any?

:sunny:

I can't be of any help, but I know some of our GF veterans will be able to answer your question :).

Group of "light" sleepers here booked for July 2014. :-). If I were to request a building, what would you recommend as ones that might be a little less full of hustle and bustle? Thanks!

We had a GV room in Big Pine Key and I found it to be quiet.

Oh, and pas130 says Hello! It's too hard for her to come over and "visit" because the urge to change is just too strong. :cutie:

Hi to pas :goodvibes. Too funny about wanting to possibly make a resort change if she came over here .

And some photos from johnsonet, too.

After looking at both sets of pics, it looks like johnsonet's are the "wider" room and minniesota's are the "triangular". I like the wider room, but don't care for how the triangular one is laid out. If I wanted to request the wider type, would it be best to call CRO and have it noted on our reservation or contact IPO and have it noted that way (or do both)?

Funny thing is, we are GF vets! We have stayed almost exclusively at the GF since DD's first trip in 2002, but we've always booked GV, or more recently TPV, and we don't know anything about deluxe rooms. RPC was a one-time surprise upgrade, so we know very little except what we experienced, which was awesome.

So, any experts know if there are any RPC TPV queen deluxe rooms? My fingers and toes are crossed!

Unfortunately, no queen deluxe TPV.:guilty: All of the rooms overlooking the marina (TPV category) are regular sized rooms, even the kings on the 2nd floor and booked as "king deluxe"! They are booked as deluxe because of the jacuzzi tub, etc. but are basically the same size as the std. room.

The deluxe queen rooms on the 4th floor, over the courtyard, can see some of the upper fireworks - but nowhere near the whole show, unfortunately. But the amount of extra room is worth it, IMO, those rooms go quickly!:)

I usually suggest Sago Cay for anyone hoping for a quiet room, if you check out the map in the first post on page 1, you can see it is removed from the main courtyard area. We prefer to NOT have Sago, as it was a little too quiet for us, but we love being in the midst of the activity.:teeth:

Yes, I have seen these. Thanks! :goodvibes

Oh, and pas130 says Hello! It's too hard for her to come over and "visit" because the urge to change is just too strong. :cutie:

Give pas my love, I need to pop into the RC thread to say hey. I rarely venture out of my own little corner of the DIS.

It wasn't all of the rooms- ours had the white duvet but other rooms in the same building did not- they still had floral bedspreads. Nothing else in our room seemed new or refurbed to us.

Ooh, interesting! I wonder if it is as I surmised - the bedspreads that get worn or stained are now being replaced by the duvets, in anticipation of the upcoming refurb.:scratchin

Actually, both rooms are the Option 2, or triangular rooms. It's probably difficult to tell, as they were taken from different angles. Here are a couple photos of our deluxe queen room, over the courtyard - I can't remember for sure, but I think it was 4419. (the 4 over the courtyard are 4319/4320 and 4419/4420, they are connecting rooms so mirror images)

Thanks k&a&c'smom - darn it...the extra space will be more important, I agree. Two 16-year-old girls with us? I'd get 2 rooms if I could, but that would break the bank, I think! :lmao:

Oh, man! I feel your pain, I planned a trip a few years ago that included my DD, her college roommate, my DS and his fiance. Two rooms in club was a bit steep, even booking SL! Fortunately for my wallet, my DS and his fiance decided they couldn't take off work that week. (not that I didn't want them to come, but it made the planning easier!:) )

I missed this part of the post in all my picture-hunting and -posting mode! I meant to say earlier, you are as much a GF expert as any of us.:goodvibes I've stayed many times, in all buildings and pretty much every category, but I still learn new things every day and don't consider myself an expert by any means. Always something new to learn!:thumbsup2

I have had 3 stays at the GF and while I know a little bit about the resort and standard rooms, I know nothing about the deluxe rooms :sad2:.

I never would have guessed they were both triangular as johnsonet's looks very different. I'm liking these pics you posted. Are these 4 over the courtyard considered wide?

Some people might describe them as "wide", I suppose, they are certainly wider than the standard rooms. I usually call them the "rectangular" deluxe queen, or Option 1 if you are looking at the layout diagrams. Tons of room, you can add a rollaway near the connecting door and still have all that sitting room area. I think Lulu's photos from the first page show that better. There's no daybed, btw, not sure if CRO mentioned that? Comfy couch and chairs, table, desk & desk chair, wet bar area.~sigh~ Love those rooms, I'm so envious you grabbed one with the discount.:teeth:

I can't tell for sure from her photos, but it's possible johnsonet's room was on the other end of the hallway, closer to the monorail, near deluxe kings 4030 et al. As has been posted, those two triangular rooms were deluxe queens but were made into std. king rooms. Similar layout, but probably backwards (mirror) of the rooms on the end near the courtyard - 3022 & 4022. Does that make sense, or did I confuse further?:upsidedow

Because of the many roof lines and shapes of exterior walls, the GF has some of the strangest-shaped rooms! We've seen a lot of odd room configurations; I had a std. queen over the courtyard that you enter from a small hallway with two room doors on either side. I'll see if I have some photos without people in them, it's pretty cool.

Gee lots of catching up to do...:surfweb:

We just returned from a week at the Grand Floridian. We had a lagoon view room which gave us an obstructed view of the MK. We still were able to enjoy the fireworks and the view of the castle/space mountain and loved our room. We thought GF was very open and airy. The grounds were beautiful. The service was amazing! We loved the shops, too! It may be our new favorite! Our kids thought the character bf at Park Fare was so much fun. The characters were very engaging.

I had been unsure of booking GF after we stayed at the Boardwalk last spring and posted a question on this board asking how the resorts compared. Boardwalk Inn was very nice but not our favorite. I was worried that GF would have a similar feel to Boardwalk. They were very, very different from each other aside from similar décor----and we loved our stay at the GF and will stay again! I would like to thank all who responded to my questions. I know it is difficult to try to answer as to whether or not someone will like a particular hotel but many of you took the time to answer my concerns.

The resort monorail was down for some of our trip between 11a and 6p which proved to be inconvenient for dining options and getting back from Epcot. The courtyard pool was down for a few days too. The beach pool was very nice and not very crowded most of the time, and my little guy loved the water feature/ splash play area.

Glad that you enjoyed your stay at the GF..:goodvibes Interesting about the duvets...they have to look so much better than those comforters from the last rehab...Thanks for the review too!

Yay, for getting the suitcase out, Blue!! If I was where you are in my countdown, mine would have been out for days!! :lmao:

grannyminnie :dance3: Under two weeks for you!!!!!! I'm so sorry that we are not going to be overlapping!

Just back from 8 nights at GF. Had a great time, magic bands and FP+ worked great for us. I I Lu wish the movie each night was in a better spot. It's impossible to watch the movie and still catch the water pageant and fireworks. Otherwise we had a really liked the grand, not sure if we would choose it over the poly though for our next trip. I guess that depends in construction at the poly. Maybe it's time we think about contemporary.

Another Poly lover in our midst!! LOL.. what is this thread coming to!! LOL.. ;) Happy to hear that you enjoyed your trip to the GF...:thumbsup2

Exciting to hear the bedspread is updated! I wonder how many others?

Today, as I was exiting my car at Michael's, I thought...it's almost here..one more week and we'll be at GF! And this physical THRILL surged through my chest, just like the one I used to get when I was little and it was Christmas Eve!

:cheer2: One week!!! I will be there just after you! I am feeling that thrill too...then the pre trip worries will set in.. LOL..but once I ma on that airplane..the thrill is back!

I need some help regarding RPC deluxe rooms. We had to make some changes to our December trip which resulted in pushing our cruise back until next year, along with changing our resort stays. I was originally thinking of going over Mother's Day, but with the new promo that was just released, it's hard to pass up a 35% discount at deluxes for March without knowing if anything will be offered for May. I tried to get my oldest to agree to BWI, but it wasn't happening without good CS options ...so the MK area it is. The CR wasn't available for our dates (we'll try that next December and with the Poly pool closing April-August (construction wouldn't be an issue, but the pool being closed is a deal breaker for us), that leaves the GF (but that's not a bad thing......LOL). My intention was to book a standard RPC room, but the only thing available under the discount was a deluxe room, so I booked it. I'm not familiar with the deluxe rooms and was wondering where they are located? Also, are any deluxe rooms close to the lounge? TIA for any information .

MickeyNut  sorry that you had to move your trip back...but glad that you will be able to take it next winter...

Glad that you are getting TO utilize the new promo and get in a spring visit to WDW!! :yay: I have stayed in the deluxe queen rooms...They are very nice..just be aware they do not have a day bed..The sofa does not open up to a bed either :confused3 Which makes no sense..LOL.. The room is so spacious tho you could add a rollaway if necessary for your boys..:crowded: LOl...

I didn't realize that there were any queen deluxes other than the 4 that are courtyard view rooms...Those are located right above the back entrance to the main building...and have a great view ...

Those room numbers are 4319 and 4320..third floor..and 4419 and 4420 on the fourth floor...

4420 is the very first room off the lounge area...can't get any closer...! They really are very nice rooms..and I think that you will enjoy the extra space...:goodvibes

Staying strong. :goodvibes

When I visited GF a couple of weeks ago, I checked out the proximity of Sugarloaf to the courtyard pool and that's a definite winner! :thumbsup2

I think it will be super convenient, especially in August since we will spend a lot of time at the pool. ::yes::

I also like how close Sugarloaf is to the main building.

Welcome back Mousemommy!! :goodvibes You are going to love your stay in SL...as you said..It couldn't be more conveniently located on the GF grounds!

We will be there in 35 days! Can't wait. It will be our first time at the GF and I can't think of a better place to celebrate my 50th birthday and our 10th anniversary!!!

Congratualtions on all of your celebrations! And on your first stay a the GF!! :goodvibes

:sunny:

No expert here either...but another GF fan! :lovestruc..we have stayed in some of the queen deluxe rooms... None have a TPV to the best of my knowledge...the ones that we have stayed in have had a view of the courtyard pool..and they did have a very nice view of Wishes from

Group of "light" sleepers here booked for July 2014. . If I were to request a building, what would you recommend as ones that might be a little less full of hustle and bustle? Thanks!

I think that the building that is probably the quietest...and a little bit more removed from the hustle and bustle is Sago Cay..it has a great MK view..and the GV's are of the marina and a nice wooded area that has monorail views too!

Maybe she stayed in one of the test rooms?? Would love to see some pics to see if anything else was different. I have not seen any mention of permits being pulled yet for the GF refurb. I have been looking every few days(on another forum website) but nothing....:bored:

Hope that you will keep us posted! :thumbsup2

k&a&c'smom Thanks for all of that additional info on the deluxe queen room in RPC... the pics and room layouts too!! (ph that old décor...so pretty! ) I wasn't aware that there were that many..and where they were located...As usual you are a wealth of info! :goodvibes

Are you posting about now by any chance!!???? ;)

Hello to all of my fellow GF fans! Hope that you have a most magical Monday!! :flower3:

I think Rectangular is a better description than "wider"...LOL. CRO did not mention about the daybed, but I was thinking there weren't any in those rooms, but I wasn't sure. That's ok, though, the two queens will do as my youngest DS didn't find the daybed at the GF very comfortable :rolleyes1.

Now that you mention it, I do recall you saying some deluxe queens were turned into deluxe kings. I do agree that the GF has some strange shaped rooms. In May 2011, our standard RPC room overlooked the beach pool/lagoon and was one like you are describing that enters from a small hallway with room doors on either side. This room had a mirror/table right as you walked in, with the bathrooom to the right and the beds to the left. I loved that room as it seemed to have a little more space over the other standard rooms with the way it was set up :goodvibes.

:surfweb: k&a&c'smom What do you know..we were posting at the some time....;)

 Yes, how strange!;) And some of the same details, great minds! Thanks for the extra info on the deluxe queens. Don't you love seeing those old rooms - or, on the other hand, doesn't it bring a tear to your eye?! I laughed out loud about the duvets being better than those bedspreads - do you know, now that they are going, I'm starting to feel a bit more fond of them.:rotfl:

Here are some photos of that std. queen room I mentioned, with the odd shape. Kind of cool, really, but so different than the normal rooms. I have some more photos but they are not on this computer, I think at that time I was putting most on a disk.:teeth:

This hallway was off the atrium hall
DSCN1290_zps34c31bcc.jpg

When you opened the door, you were looking down a little hallway right at this hat rack
DSCN1291_zps2eee9526.jpg

Standing near the hat/coat rack, you looked right and the dressing area was there with the bath beyond

Turn left at that same spot, you see down another little hall (with the mirrored closet) into the bedroom

Standing at the window, looking back at the beds - see the wet bar? Cool, right?!

Ooh, I missed this as I was composing my post with all the photos - is it the SAME room?!? Way cool!:thumbsup2 I loved it, too, and I agree that it seemed like it had more room, though I don't think the bedroom was even as big as the regular rooms. Just the way it was configured.

I just called the GF and they said their refrigerators are all in working order. I couldn't find an update on here anywhere, so I wanted to share. This is great news for us with a toddler!

Thanks, Blue....I'm ok with rescheduling because we had a 3 night cruise booked for this year, but I ended up booking a 4 night for next year.....so 1 more day to explore the ship should be fun. Plus, I'm saving more in March than I was in December.....so it's all good :thumbsup2. Now I just have to decide where to stay before and after our cruise next year......decisions decisions :rotfl::rotfl: (although I think the CR will definitely be one of them). I'm thinking room 4420 would be perfect for us.....I would love to be right next to the lounge because as you know.....it's all about the food :rotfl2:.

Here are some photos of that std. queen room I mentioned, with the odd shape. Kind of cool, really, but so different than the normal rooms. I have some more photos but they are not on this computer, I think at that time I was putting most on a disk.:teeth:

Now we're posting at the same time :rotfl::rotfl:. Our room was on the 3rd floor and could be seen from across the way when in the lounge. I agree about the size......seemed bigger because of the configuration, but probably the same size ;).

I just called the GF and they said their refrigerators are all in working order. I couldn't find an update on here anywhere, so I wanted to share. This is great news for us with a toddler!

Thanks for the update :flower3:.

I have to say, I was going to keep checking to see if the CR became available for our dates, but I'm getting excited to stay in one of those deluxe rooms :goodvibes.

LOL! Pretty soon, we'll all be posting at the same time.:rotfl2:

Has to be the same room, those photos are from the 3rd floor - 4323. Awesome!

You should keep that deluxe room, they are hard to snag, especially with the discount! I think it is baler31 who books hers for the following year the day she checks out. Part of the reason they can be difficult to get is that two of them (4320 and 4420) are accessible, so they tend to save 4319 and 4419, as they are connecting rooms and guests often need the two together. (4319 with 4320, 4419 with 4420) That's what IPO told me, anyway, and I know 4420 is accessible as I was in that one to visit a friend.

Oh, I think you asked about your request. I would put it on the reservation, and alert IPO of your preference. If you don't want to call CRO back, just send a message to IPO to add it to your res for you, that's what I always do.

I think you're right....we'll have everyone posting together .

That very well could be the same room. I loved it and would definitely request that if I had booked a standard room :goodvibes.

Right now I'm pretty set on keeping the deluxe room. My DH really wants to try the CR, but I'd rather try it in December when there's probably less of a chance to swim as I don't really care for the pool :rolleyes1. We do a lot of swimming in the warmer months and my bet would be on late March being a better chance for swimming than December, so I'm thinking the GF will stick (especially since the Poly pool is due to be undergoing a refurb and my DS won't budge on an Epcot resort :rotfl:).

Thanks for the suggestion contacting IPO for the request. I haven't gotten anything from them yet, so if I don't get an email soon, I'll initiate contact....thanks :).

mickeynut - lol about your DS not budging. Guys.;) I can't believe he can pass up SAB!!

I do not usually get a message from GF IPO until closer to the check in date, so you will likely have to contact them. I think I've had one trip in the last few years where they sent me an email within a week or so of my reservation, but that's about as good as it gets. And I think that was a last minute trip - well, less than 2 months, if I recall.

Your theory about the weather and using the pool sounds like a good plan. It's often the way we choose, too. I'll keep my fingers crossed you are able to try out that deluxe room!:dance3:

Good Evening :wave2: Watching DWTS as I type....

Hi ahcupcake . I hope you are feeling better soon.

I've tried everything I can think of to get them to sway toward the YC, but they aren't having any of it :sad2:. I will keep trying, though, because the Epcot area is nice and you can't beat walking to Epcot and DHS :thumbsup2. Thinking maybe a split stay might be in order for a future trip so we can do Epcot/DHS with our YC (or BWI) stay and MK/AK with our MK resort :goodvibes.
Thanks mickeynut1 feeling lots better but waiting for the real nasty one to arrive.........Sorryyour guys don't want to stay at the YC, I keep booking it then always cancel and book RPC

ahcupcake, hope you're done with that nasty sinus infection! :flower3: No trips in your future yet?
Yes the sinus infection is gone my face no longer hurts.....No trips that have been booked, I plan lots of faux fantasy trips, my latest has us arriving at the GF tomorrow morning for the first of 2 big V&A F&W dinner then checking out Thurs only to check in at the YC for easy access to F&W then check back into the GF on the 28th for the 2nd V&A dinner on the 29th and finally checking out to come home on Nov1..Yep that is a fab fantasy trip

Sorry the are no deluxe queen RPC TPV rooms. Some of the deluxe queens overlook the courtyard pool & the others overlook the beach pool/GFV and maybe the Poly

Thanks for that, I think someone just asked about the fridge situation a few days ago, so your post is timely.:thumbsup2

I didn't know 4420 was an accessible room, I stayed in that room 2yrs ago and there was nothing to indicate that it was ie no roll in shower BUT maybe that has changed since my stay...I loved that room loved the space
