So long story hopefully shortened up a little. This trip was planned a year ago. DH & I went to Food & Wine Festival for the first time in 2011. We skipped 2012 as we went with our sons in May of 2012 after Cody got out of college for the year. So DH & I were really looking forward to it. In May when eating out with my sister & BIL he mentioned wanting to go to Disney again. I told him we are going in Oct. He told me to talk to my sister. Well she hemmed & hawed then said "sure life is too short let's go. Well all my dining reservations & resort were all booked through Lesley at Pixie Vacations (who is awesome). So my sister Diane booked through her travel agent. They were arriving about 1/2 hour after us. And heading home one day before us. The trip was booked for Oct. 4th-11th for us. We got a discount and stayed at Beach Club (our favorite) especially for Food & Wine!! My sis stayed at POFQ & loved it!!
Now there is a story within this story....My BIL has had heart problems & blockages for many many years. Keep that in mind...
I was diagnosed 10 years ago with Ulcerative Colitis. (inflamation & ulcers in the colon). I have been dealing with flare ups off & on (moslty on) for the 10 years. Lots of drugs that are not good for you, make you bloated & hyper & have been hospitalized 4 times now. 2 years ago during a hospital stay my doctor mentioned that I need to start thinking about surgery but started me on a new treatment called Remicade. It is an infusion that I get at the hospital. It started out that I needed to go every 8 weeks. 3 hours in Special Procedures at the hospital.
To make a long story short...This Summer I had some symptoms but a Sigmoid did not show a flare up so was taking Immodium. All along it was the start of a flare up but did not know it until August when it was full blown throughout my whole colon (was usually just one sided & lower). Had Cat Scan, then colonoscopy. Med's did not help & ended up being admitted to hospital on Sept. 6th. Now we were leaving Oct. 4th so in less than a month I had to get over this!!!
Now I text my sister & she says "This trip is jinxing us". Why?? BIL was having chest pain & found out he had a bad blockage that needed to be cleared. His procedure scheduled for Sept 7th. We did not know what was going to happen with either of us. So they were pumping steroid IV fluids into me. On Wed. morning I was a wreck waiting to hear about BIL. The amazing doctor had a heck of a time getting a "piece of thread" through but totally cleared the blockage & he was good to go!!
So I am in the hospital for 7 nights. My sister actually came up from MA to get me & take me home when I was discharged. At home I did not get better & ended up back in the hospital on the 17th. I kept telling my doctor that I WAS going to Fl. His response was "I have not OK'd that yet". And told me I may need emergency surgery in Boston & to get on the phone with my insurance as this was very serious!!! Well after 4 nights I was doing so much better. Had my infusion (which is now every 4 weeks & higher dose) to get me into remission. After that I started to get better & improved with each passing day & YES I MADE IT TO DISNEY!!!
Sorry to go on & on but had to explain the trip title part about them going without me...So the cast of characters are...My DH Jeff, Sister Diane, Brother in Law Bert, & myself who does all the planning & Disney addict.
Will try to update more later....
