The not so live version of dining w/ Disers, in Castles & on Safari! The Wrap! 2/26

We LOVE 1900 Park Fare Breakfast with our kids!! I have taken my kids twice when they were 2.5 y/o and then when my youngest was 19 months. It's sooo yummy!!!!

I'm so glad to hear that! I hope my DD enjoys it, since I booked it on her birthday. Still debating whether or not I should order a cake... But what would we do with it when we're at MK all day?

My sister and I just returned from an amazing 14-day trip to the World (and too much food!) and I'm playing catch up with your wonderful reports. What awesome Dismeets!! It looks like breakfast at Tusker House is wonderful and I can't get over the variety offered. I love the characters all decked out in their safari gear, so cute! Great pictures of you, Em and fellow Dis'ers. Sorry your dinner at Grand Floridian Cafe wasn't the best, although Em's burger does look tasty. I'm sure the company more than made up for the lacklustre dining experience. :thumbsup2

UGH on the slow service!! Thats always a bummer! I rate my service on my water glass a lot of the time! I like to drink a lot of water during my meals and if its empty thats not a good thing!

At least you had GREAT company while waiting for non-existant servers!!

Ugh, I'm sorry for your lack of service and attention to detail at GFC~
but, like others have said, at least you had great company!
We were hoping to use it for a dinner for something different during our Marathon Weekend trip, since we are staying at the Polynesian and looking for close options. We dined there for dinner quite a while back and had a similar experience with service. Was hoping it would be better. Maybe we'll just stick to breakfast there instead, which we like better. Hmmm....
Appreciate your review!

We had excruciatingly slow service at the GF Cafe when we ate lunch there eight years ago. It took us more than an hour and a half to get through there, and it was the same thing that you experienced, servers who were non-existent or couldn't see hand signals. I see that nothing has changed. :lmao:

We ate breakfast at Tusker House for the first time in February and really enjoyed it. The ham was delicious and I would go back there just for that. ;)

I'm pretty sure it was this dinner on the live thread that made me change my GFC dinner to a 1900 Park Fare breakfast for my upcoming trip. I just can't have slow service with a 2 year old! The desserts look great though. Did anyone take the chocolate Mickey home to eat later?

Hi Jill! Oh my! Other than the Tremaine clan potentially being rude I think you may have a better meal than we did! :lmao: I definitely think 1900 is a better option with a little one.

Good question!! I think I offered the Mickey chocolate to any takers but after I broke his leg no one wanted him.

Hi Brenda! Just catching up, after our trip a few weeks ago I haven't been on the dis that much. How awesome you were able to meet Kathy and Mark! One of these days I hope to meet them. We love the TH for breakfast, the variety is great, and who doesn't love Donald Duck. BTW I am planning on going over to DL in either Nov or Dec for Christmas Season.

Hi Lori! It's hard to get caught up isn't it?

If you want to meet Kathy you should go early December!! :yay: We'll be there on the 5th as well. Just sayin'. ;)

While I do LOVE Tusker House, I need to try Kona for a breakfast since you are bargaining! ;) I can't let you keep something I haven't tried! :rotfl2:

I'm sorry that the service wasn't up to par at the GFC. The burger does look amazing, but I'm afraid that shrimp cocktail wouldn't good to me. I rarely like verde sauce and I certainly don't like avocados! :crazy2: But that Chocolate Fondue… :goodvibes It's not on my "must do" list for now, though. But that's why I have your dining reviews! :thumbsup2

Hi Christen! I know you love TH but you HAVE to try Kona some time.

I'm sure we'll be back at GFC (we always make it for breakfast) but I'm sure there's a reason the service was slow. :confused3 But yeah.... verde sauce for the shrimp cocktail... now they were just getting weird with that. Have you been to Hollywood & Vine?? That's the only place at DHS that we haven't tried. I'm curious about it.

I'm a 1900 PF fan but we've only been for breakfast. I really want to go for dinner for the Tremaines.

I'm slowly trying to catch up so I don't get any further behind (plus I need to occupy my mind on something).

I would like one of those cookies right now, please.

Sorry the service was lacking and the food wasn't stupendous at Grand Floridian Cafe. We had a reservation there in August and I cancelled it. I've read pros and cons and just haven't been able to commit myself.

I will say Em's burger looks wonderful.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for more DISmeets.

Hi Kathy. I'm so sorry about sweet Cookie. :sad1:

If I was within 100 miles of you I would bake you a batch of cookies and deliver them to you! (they may not be as appetizing as the CL lounge.)

We've had 1 good dinner at GFC and 1 not so good dinner there so you just never know.

Em definitely liked her burger. :thumbsup2 And yes, Mrs. Queen of Dismeets - definitely :woohoo:

I'm sorry your dinner wasn't that great! Em's burger does look fantastic. I do have to say I'm not that impressed with the presentation of the fondue. The fruit looks like it was just thrown on the plate.

Hi Kylie! Ha ha! I was thinking that about the fondue as well when I saw the photo. That's the best they can do with that? Throw a few things on the plate with a bowl of melty chocolate?? Everyone who ordered it seemed to like it so what do I know. :confused3

Welcome back Carol!!! Please let me know if you do a Dining Review.

Tusker House is crazy with the number of choices available! I agree, you get to see the characters in their adorable safari wear.

You are absolutely correct! Dining with Dis-pals distracts from the mediocre food since we were enjoying spending time together. :)

Hi Minniebeth! No worries. I think I should be a little more forgiving since it was crazy busy. But we did have some awesome company!!! :) I do love their breakfast too!

Thanks sweetie!!

Hi Paula! Love your service benchmark! I am impressed when they don't let the water glass get empty. Perhaps I should look at it a different way and be annoyed if it DOES get empty.

And YES, dining with the fellow Disers was pretty great!

6 more days!!!! And then what, 54 or so before you are dining with the same disers!

Oh no!! Maybe dinner is not not their strong point. That's it! I want to call Restaurant Stakeout to iron out their service issues! :rotfl2:

I think I needed to try more dishes at TH. :) Mickey waffles and Krispy Kreme, well, we know how those are going to turn out. :thumbsup2

Day 5: Tues. August 20, 2013 Boma Breakfast

DSCN4832.jpg

We had an 8:30am ADR for our last breakfast at AKL which was booked for Boma. We almost didnt make a reservation but Em requested that this be our last meal at the resort. No arguments from me.

We were seated in a little window alcove in the back all by our lonesome. Well, we weren't here to be social, we were here for the food so off we went to the buffet.

My plates/bowl:

DSCN4925.jpg

I subscribe to a one and done methodology for my buffet dining experience. Meaning that I prefer to load up all my plates of food one time and not make a return trip to the buffet because a) I'm lazy and b) I probably don't need seconds of anything.

Not sure why I stood in line 8 minutes for a spinach/mushroom omelet (which was excellent) and then proceeded to dish me up some goat cheese/chive scrambled eggs. (I may be the only one that conjures up images of old musty books when I eat goat cheese but I'm not a fan.) However, they did have waffles. And by waffles I mean just plain old round waffles that are broken up into quarters for serving. This is Disney folks, where's your Mickey waffles?? Admittedly, this didn't stop me from grabbing a couple but there's just something special about a Mickey head shaped anything when you eat.

I really didn't have anything too exciting or ethnic on my plates. Oatmeal, nothing to tell there... asparagus good since they were tiny tender spears, and the jungle juice which is always delicious.

Emily started off with some hot tea before making her way to the buffet. She is a fan of the corned beef and almost always has some rice krispies. Just ask for some milk and the server will be glad to bring you a small pitcher. Apparently I was too impatient to await her return with her breakfast choices since I don't see any photos after I dug in. Oops!

I'm glad that we took some time to eat here for our last meal. It may not look like I partook in some of their signature dishes but I did enjoy this place.

Next Up: San Angel Inn

Hi Brenda
What perfect company for your dinner at GFC
Shame that the service was a bit lacking
I really must get there one of these days. the breakfast and lunch menu look the most appealing to me :)
Lx

Darn, just as I am commenting on GFC you are posting a Boma review !
We've tried dinner at Boma and it was great for me with all the veggie options
I would have found the breakfast bread pudding hard to resist ;)

Good morning Linda!!!

Yes, the company was definitely a plus. The service not so much.

Breakfast there is still one of my favorites for any resort. :thumbsup2

That's me, staying up late to post dining reviews! I tried to time it so that you could rise and shine and read a new review! :rotfl2:

For breakfast, I'm almost always 100% veggie. No meat for me in the mornings.

Not sure why I didn't try the bread pudding WITH the caramel sauce. (I think I've had it before...) ;)

Brenda, what better way is there to waking up and seeing all those pictures of a Boma's breakfast. Sure beats the Cheerio's, almond milk and banana sitting in front of me right now. :rotfl:

Seriously, I am now rethinking my decision to cancel Boma and make an ADR at WCC. I love that jungle juice so much I can almost taste it. And the food...oh, just bring me six plates right now, please.

But I am NOT going to change back. We will just do Boma in August/September. I'm looking forward to trying WCC at your recommendation. I hope they have Mickey waffles though.

And thank you for saying you'd make cookies and deliver them if I lived closer. You are a GREAT Dis friend.

Ooh, that place looks yummy! All carbs for breakfast, please!! Your selections look similar to what I would have chosen too.

I've never tried breakfast at Boma, but I've always been tempted by the description and pictures of the items available. If we ever stay at AKL, that will be on my must-try list. :thumbsup2

Wow, you and Em were seated at the exact same table that my sister and I had when we went to Boma for dinner two years ago, LOL. It felt a little like being tucked away in a secret room ... or being sent to the corner for a time out. I never did decide which was more likely. ;)

I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to goat cheese! Old musty books is the perfect description as far as I'm concerned. I know many people love it, but I'm definitely not a fan. And why, oh why does it have to pop up in everything lately?? We saw a goat cheesecake offered at one of the restaurants we visited last week. The last thing I want is a goat-y dessert, yuk!

Great update Brenda! :goodvibes

Way to go Kathy, you are crossing over to the dark side. :darth: Before you know it you'll be posting that you have decided to stay a week at the WL. :lmao: And make that two of us who would bake you some cookies and deliver them if you lived closer... For what it's worth, I am an excellent cook and baker. (As I'm holding my man card firmly in my grasp). :rotfl2::rotfl:

I'll have you know that I gave Mark four options of resorts for our trip next August/September and the Villas at WL was on the list. Of course, I prayed he would say no to two of the and he did. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

You don't need a man card held firmly in your grasp just because you can cook and bake. I know many men who can. :)

Sorry for hijacking Brenda.

True enough. But when you bake, cook, and love Disney...... your right, I'm keeping my man card.:thumbsup2 At least I don't crochet and Sleepless in Seattle is not one of my all time favorite movies. :rotfl2:

Brenda, so I don't hijack this thread any further; I love this TR and have just about read all your previous reports via your links; I have no idea what took me so long. I hope that someday our paths will cross in WDW. :goodvibes

Yes, I know!! I'm hoping for maybe trying it on the last day of our March trip IF we can 1-get a ressie and 2- figure out the transportation of our trip! :rotfl:

YES! We have tried H&V for breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised with it. Nothing unique or special, but a very good selection of breakfast foods- they have a strawberry syrup for their pancakes/waffles that is really yummy!

Boma is another reason for given AKL a chance at a stay!! I'd love to try it! Maybe even giving up a signature dinner to do so then!
