Quick question: Does anyone know the current price per point to add on BWV points direct from Disney? Is it the same price per point as the newer DVC resorts currently for sale? And are there ever promotions like there are for newer properties? Thanks!

$130/pt. No incentives. There is a waitlist of indeterminate length.

$130/point with a 25 point minimum. No incentives or promotions happening right now.

There may be a waitlist to get BWV points from Disney, depending on the inventory they have in the use year you need.

Thanks! Looking like resale for a small add-on is about the same and comes with the restrictions.

Well, I suppose it depends on your definition of "about the same". The highest recorded price recently for BWV was $100/pt, for a 25-point chunk. A 50-point contract from the same seller went for $90/pt. The highest listing price I can see for BWV is $110, but that's a listing price, not a selling price, and even $110 is less than $130. Once you get to 100 points and higher, the prices settle down into the normal range (which is around $72-88/pt right now).

To some extent it depends on your personal valuation of the exchange restrictions on resale. The monetary value of those exchanges is essentially $0; they don't represent a significant discount over what you could book those exchanges for cash, and are a significant premium over renting your DVC points and booking the rack rate for cash. There is convenience value in being able to use your points for other things besides DVC, RCI, and a handful of BVTC hotels. But is that worth $20-50 per point?

We are in the process of purchasing 2 contracts through resale and have no regrets about going resale. We did the DVC presentation in Aug. and sorry the few extra perks you get aren't worth the extra cost per point. Even the agent that did our presentation said that they weren't worth using points for since the amount of points needed for the cruise, adventures, etc are much higher than most people have. For us paying $130/pt at BW wasn't worth it when we could make offers on resale contracts. We got our 2 contracts for $85/pt and are thrilled with them.

Where do you find out what recent contracts actually sold for? I was comparing the $130/pt direct cost to a contract i saw resale that was for 30 pts listed at $117 plus I think you pay closing costs extra where they're included in the direct price. Barring any other resale price per point for comparison purposes it looked to me like the total cost for resale was pretty close to the direct cost--unless the actual price paid resale is typically much lower than listed?

We have 200 pts at BWV--150 of which we got in 1999 (at like $75-80/pt :) )and the other 50 we added on a few years ago by going direct. Thinking of adding just 25 more, def at BWV and same April use year to keep things simple. Even after all these years its still where we prefer to stay.

Honestly we haven't once traded them out but its always been on our minds and in our plans to do so at least once or twice for a cruise at some point and was thinking we would like the flexibility of all the points being available to do so-- but maybe thats not as important if we get a great price to go resale.

The Orange County Comptroller's web site. The deeds are listed there and most of them contain the actual selling price, and the ones that don't you can get the total price to the nearest $100 from the deed document tax. Divide the price by the number of points and you get a price per point.

That's exactly it. People do pay listed price, but usually for contracts that are priced pretty well to start with. The contracts that are on the high side usually get negotiated down. Sometimes they don't; every once in a while someone will pay a really high price because it's exactly the contract they need.

For you, wanting 25 points, resale may be tough because contracts that size don't come along that often; there might only be 1 or 2 a month. So it could be months until you see a contract for your use year that is the size you want. And they do tend to sell for the highest prices. The 2 25-point contracts listed for BWV sold for $100 & $96 this month. Which is a nice savings compared to $130, but closing costs are $200-250 higher for resale, which cuts into your savings considerably. You still come out ahead at that price.

So I don't think it's crazy to buy a 25-point add-on direct. You would probably save some money via resale, but the wait could be longer. Or you could spot the perfect contract tomorrow. It's the nature of the market.

You can certainly do both - put yourself on a waitlist for BWV points and also keep checking the resale sites. Good luck!

Yes this is great to know. I had no idea 25-point contracts sold as low as the $90s or around $100. The $117 for a 30-pt contract is high then because you save just $325 over direct but would have to pay closing out of that. (Figures its our UY too. ) Now if I was to snag it for say $95 that would be a more significant difference. I think you're right I will try both simultaneously and see what happens.

The asking price on our two contracts was $90/pt and we ended up paying $85/pt. If you deal with resale you are able to make and offer and see what the owner counters with or may accept. We were extremely happy with the price we paid - we will have 410 points total and will actually have carryover points to start with. Depending on if the resale contract is loaded or stripped can also make a difference on what to offer. We looked at a few contracts that didn't have points until 2015 available and would have never paid the asking price for them. Even maintenance fees and closing costs can be negotiated in. One of our contracts wanted us to pay the 2013 maintenance fees but since we would only have the contract for 3 months I was will to pay MF for 3 months but the sellers are going to cover the whole year - so everything is negotiable.
