YES, touring Cinderella’s Dream Suite was Amazing!+14 Other Magical Days* Dismeet & Wrap

Sorry guys.... it's totally not intentional that I'm AWOL this weekend. I've had an update ready to post since I left off on Friday but time has gotten away from me. My excuses are plentiful but just to name a few.... I had 4 family birthdays TODAY alone - my mother, husband, niece and Em's beau. My son's is in two days... (We were at DTD Anaheim and Disneyland all afternoon/evening celebrating with Em's beau and my DH.)

My mom just had surgery so I'm cooking for her and my dad (my poor mom is in bad enough shape without me adding to her misery with my cooking! :rotfl2:) and now I must attend a conference this week that will take me our of my home office for the first time since before our August vacation.

I have not been to my actual office since before our trip due to my broken ankle. I have to tell ya, I've gotten pretty lazy with just rolling out of bed and opening my laptop. It's a pathetic thing when my hubby asks me when I'm going to go back to work and I say I AM at work and he then asks when am I going to stop working in my PJs? :rotfl2: (I've only done that twice for the record!)

All that to say that I DO intend to update tomorrow.. hopefully.

Oh, and I have a Dismeet on Wednesday with Paula (Smile4stamps) for dinner. I'm super excited to see her again.

I worked from home for a few weeks once and spent more than two of those days in my pajamas. I don't judge. ::yes::
I saw on Facebook about all the birthdays! Our family has a day like that, we have 5 on one day in March.
Hope your mom feels better soon after her surgery, and I am quite sure that she appreciates the cooking ;)

I can't remember the last time I reviewed because school has got me totally bogged down (curse nursing school and its interference with my Disney time!) I figure I'll just pick back up with all of Day 2 and write as I read. Here we go!

Even though I bet it felt ghastly, I really like the hazy morning shot off of your balcony. The air looks like its just hanging over the water. Very neat!

The lodge looks fantastic! The details are so ornate and perfect. The more pictures you post, the more I'm dying to go!

The nachos do look amazing so I certainly can't blame you!

Isn't it a little funny how much people LOVE the Tangled bathrooms?! Who'd imagine that Disney would have us flocking to the bathroom with our cameras at the ready! Only in WDW, I suppose!

The trees almost look like a hidden mickey in that first shot off of your AKL balcony!

It sounds like you had some hiccups with your Magic Bands so far- what are your thoughts? Good? Bad? Better once the kinks are gone?

I didn't realize you had not been back to work since you got home.

Working in your pajamas? Why the heck not...you are at home and there is no one to see you.

I hope you had a great celebration with Michael, Emily and her beau.

Life has gotten crazy for me as well! Luckily, not so many birthdays though! :rotfl2:

Why would you get dressed if you are just working from home?? I mean, isn't that the BEST part of working from home????

I would work in my pajamas if I could! Unfortunately I have a job that will always require me to be present! Hard to be a Nurse when you aren't there!

Can't wait till our DisMeet! See you in 2 days!

I work from home 100% of the time with my job. Work in PJ's all the time and sometimes don't even make it to the desk...just stay in bed and work away. I have to say though I do get some extreme cases of cabin fever though.

Looking forward to your next update!

You guys crack me up with the working from home attire!!! :rotfl2: I should be completely honest and say that there are many times that I sleep in shorts and tees so my husband is really referring to the fact that I'm not getting dressed for the office (yeah, no make up, hair's a mess!!) but I AM dressed. :lmao:

Anyhoo....I'll respond to all comments in a bit. First I want to get my update posted.:)

Sunday August 18, 2013: Day 3, Part 2 - Kilimanjaro Sunrise Safari

So you guys now know that we'd never done the safari before... two minutes into the safari I was captivated by all of these beautiful creatures. I can't believe we hadn't done this sooner!!

I have no idea the names of many of these animals so this will be primarily a photo tour. I could resort to the Jungle Cruise humor and say that I’ll just point out a few animals… look, there, and there, and there’s one. Instead I’ll let the camera do the work on this one.

On our way
DSCN3463.jpg

These guys have white stripes to replicate sunlight streaming through the jungle.
DSCN3467.jpg

Note: Early in the safari I had my camera on an unknown setting that didn't allow it to focus so I apologize for the blurry photos. (And my apologies Wendy for not paying attention during your photo 101 lessons!! Obviously I failed that part of the lessons.:p)

DSCN3474.jpg

Next were the rhinos with their prehensile lips to grasp food. <<< I learned that from our tour guide. I never noticed that before but what do you know, if you zoom in you can see it.

DSCN3486.jpg

The hippos were taking a dip…. They were feeding them cabbage. It amazes me that these guys are vegetarians yet have so much bulk to them. There was one that came over near the safari vehicle and hammed it up for the camera.

DSCN3521.jpg

The next stop was one of the rare occurrences for guests on the safari tour. (They said they only do this before park open so you would have to catch this on the sunrise version of the safari tour.) They were feeding the crocs this morning. Chicken was on the menu… We paused here for a long time watching them eat. Interesting factoids: During the winter they only feed the crocs every few months. In the wild they can go 6 months without eating. In fact, since their metabolism slows down during the non-rainy season, if they ate the food would rot in their belly and not be digested. Needless to say, I wouldn’t have wanted to get any closer to those crocs while they were being fed. Look out! They were fighting over the nuggets.

DSCN3526.jpg

IMG_0149.jpg

Unfortunately, I have better video that photos. And since they were being fed they were not sunning on the beach where you can see them better.

Moving on since there was another truck behind us that needed to see the crocs being fed. Next, some Elands, which are a type of antelope. Very beautiful and graceful animals.

Ankole cattle with some serious hornage. The horns are honeycombed inside so are not dense. I was confused if these should be on a savanna or deep in the heart of Texas??

Giraffes were next. Such a beautiful delicate face. I wish I had eyelashes like that!

Part 2 Coming Up...Here

Okay, I may just have to book AKL CL level for one night and get on that safari. I cannot believe how close you were to my giraffes. I am sitting here very envious right now.

Great pictures of all the animals, and great job remembering certain facts about them.

Wow those animals sure are active early in the morning!

I work from home every single day and I hate it soo much!!! I miss people :( Most days I am in my pjs all day and don't even shower until night. I want to go back to working in an office. The only plusses are that I can work out at lunch, make my own food, and not have to drive anywhere. I would feel so much better about myself if I actually got ready in the morning, lol!

Some of these days I'm going to plan far enough ahead to score a concierge DVC studio so I can do the Sunrise Safari.

Jill in CO

Hi Jill. I'm curious if non-DVC members are able to book villas with CL?? That would be an amazing stay.

What a fantastic way to do your first safari, you do know that you've been spoilt now and won't want to do it any other way though.

Hi Jo! I hate to admit that you may be right! :)

BTW: I finally read most of your TR and I loved reading about all of the amazing events, tours, press and media events and such. And of course, the castle suite. What an incredible experience!

Ahhhh, you left it hanging!!!! I have been wanting to do this safari forever!! Can't wait to hear all about it. Sure hope you provide lots of details. Loving the photos so far.
Sorry about that! It wasn't intentional. It was really late when I posted. Not sure I remember all the details now since my notes are not too detail oriented! ;)

I can't believe you have never been on the safari at AK! The Sunrise Safari looks super cool so far, can't wait to see more pics!

Hi Melissa! I know, it is so hard to believe. It's one of those things that if you never try it you don't know what you are missing.

We had a wet spot on the ground in our AKL room too! Was it right next to the door leading to the bathroom? I think ours was from a dripping vent above it! It wasn't soaked but it was wet.

I am excited for the safari! I can't believe you have never been on the safari before! I am glad you got to do it.

Hi Rachel! The wet carpet covered the entire dressing area. It was like a pipe leaked under the sink or something. Not sure but it was not quite soaking wet but more than a little damp.

I've enjoyed seeing everyone's photos on the safari but it's never been worked into our plans. Until now...

Just got caught up and loving your photos. Can't wait to see your pics from the sunrise safari!

Hi Tina! Thanks and now that I've posted part 1 with actual animals your wait is over! :)

I have to say Brenda, for someone who was feeling icky, you still looked pretty fabulous.
Before I read you were feeling better I thought this was going to be one heck of a bumpy safari ride with you feeling queasy. A show for sure for the animals!

I have certainly thought about doing the sunrise safari, but I think I was thinking about it before it became a CL thing. Maybe I'm thinking wrong, but I could have sworn it recently became a little bit harder to do by way of having to stay club level. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to share a room for a night or two with one the Dis gals wanting to stay there some time.

Can't wait to see the rest of your safari.

Hope you had success with your shopping today.

Hi Camille! Awww thanks! Yeah, I was pretty worried but everything worked out fine. It was a bit scary when I saw the raw chicken being fed to the crocs but thankfully I didn't lose it there.

I didn't even know about the safari until not long before our trip. We were already booked CL and I think one of the concierge CM contacted me before our trip and told me about it. It wasn't a tough sell.

Now you have a great idea!!!

You are in luck... animals have now made an appearance in post # 449! :goodvibes

If you didn't ride the safari on those last ten visits, what did you do? The safari is just about the only thing we ever do at AK. But I also have a "been to AK park 10 times" and never done. It is "Finding Nemo" - never seen it. And we have only seen Festival of the Lion King once. We never even knew the show was there until our trip in 2011.

I love that wall paper. It looks like something from the late 1800's when the Europeans were discovering Africa.

Ha ha ha!!! We must have just been riding EE over and over and over!!! Well, that an a few other shows. Honestly, we never really spent that much time at AK park.

Ok, now it's my turn! You've never seen Finding Nemo the musical?? It is a cute show. Very creative. I'm here to admit that although I love FOTLK, I've only seen it once too. Thought for sure we'd make it over there this trip but we didn't.

I agree. I was fascinated the first time we stayed at AKL and took a bunch of photos of the wall paper. I think in my last TR I posted a few.

One more thing to add to my bucket list. Or is it two things? Jinko still looks amazing. I love my ribs. And the safari looks like a gem. Can't wait for your pics.

Hi Sandy! I love ribs too! Jiko's isn't ordinary ribs since they are fall off the bone tender and just amazing! Think of a really good pot roast for the texture. Mmmmm...

You will now officially see more animals if you read on!

6:45am and you and Em look super glam - what is your secret ladies.

Hi Linda! Bathing! :lmao:

Hard to imagine but I think I may be caught up!!!!

That is a riot that you were plotting a snack and realized you had a whole CL lounge awaiting you!

Bummer that they couldn't fix Em's magic band and that check in took so long but how perfectly lovely that they brought you a mimosa.

Major ick on the wet floor and loud kids, glad you were able to move but still a pain to have to try and do so.

Magical Jiko experience, that's very fun (but I need to go read the review to see what you thought of the amuse!).

I cannot believe you've never been on the safari but at least once you went to do it, you are doing it right! Can't wait to see more.

Hi Cynthia! You must be back from your business trip. (Sure wish I had business trips to Hawaii!)

Yeah, we're goofs!

The welcome mimosa was a nice touch. Maybe if I had more of those the noisy neighbors wouldn't have been as much of a pain!

I know! I know...hard. to. believe. ;) Mark that one off the list though!

Being sick at Disney is no bueno.

So cool that you got to see backstage Disney!

Can't wait to see what you think of the safari. First thing in the morning is always the best time to go.

Also, so excited that you and Rob are having a Dismeet! LOVED your comment about him rowing the boat :lmao: I'll be there Nov. 28-Dec. 2, so I'm pretty sure I just miss you guys (not 100% sure of your dates though)!

Hi Courtney. Yeah, the ick passed quickly enough.

The back stage stuff was quite interesting.

I've heard the morning is a great time for the animals as well. Although some animals are slower to come out of the barns and dorms so mid morning may be better. Interesting stuff.

Awww thanks! Oh man, you are going to miss Rob by 1 Day (I'm sure you've already seen his travel dates by now.) I don't arrive until later on the 5th. Darn!!!!

I just got all caught up! I've been enjoying the summer with my two little ones. Unfortunately it's back to reality on Monday when my maternity time comes to an end. I do love reading about your trips. Wilderness Lodge looks so gorgeous! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip!

Hi KristinAnne! That is so nice to have the summer to enjoy your new baby and your DD. I hope you did ok today going back to work. That's a tough one on mommy! Do you get a transition week to work part time the first week. In CA (at least my company) we offer that to new parents. Men and women.

I'm glad that you've been reading along. :goodvibes

You are such a tease leaving us hanging like that, Brenda.

But you certainly left me anxious to read more.

I didn't mean to do that! Honest. It was late and I was beat and those are my excuses.

One my biggest pet peeves is people putting their arms up on rides. If it is a non photo ride I dont care but why ruin it for others.
2 times on COP, lucky.
I always take welcome mats at each resort every time. It means you are really there. LOL
Nice looking room and view. I love Jambo House, one of my favorites.
I cant believe you have never done the safari. I am so jealous you got to do the tour.
I am caught up again.

Hi Scott. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Ha ha! I can imagine running into that kid at the ride photo display and asking him, do you see what you did to MY ride photo?

Ah, you must approve of CoP then.

I think I recall that you've shared photos of the resort welcome mats too. Great minds and all! :thumbsup2

Better than Kidani?? I wouldn't know. We didn't make it over to Kidani.

I'm adding you to my list of Diser's who find it hard to believe! It's true!

Glad to know you are caught up and if you haven't read post #449 you're now behind! :rotfl2:

Jambo! Wow!! You never went on the safari?! What did you do?! I hope your first visit to harambe was a good one. very nice that your first venture out there you guys had a row of your own.

Hi Jennifer! Were you just saying "hi" in Swahili?? Cute!

Ha ha! Seriously! What were we doing? (EE and eating is up there on the list!)

Looks like another photo bomber strikes again in the picture of the two of you sitting at the table in Jiko's :rotfl2:
Ha ha! Yeah, that little girl was a cutie and definitely hammed it up for the photo!

Add me to the list who is shocked that you've never been on the safari before. I guess you're dong it the best way possible, though! Actually, AK is my least favorite park. I'm completely skipping it next month to do an extra day at Epcot for Food and Wine fun.

Do I understand correctly that the sunrise safari is only offered for guests staying CL at AKL?

Given the choice of F&W at Epcot or AK hmmmmm... yeah, food and some wine may win as well. Actually, we really don't spend much time at AK park so that's why we haven't done the safari in the past.

Yes, the sunrise safari is available for CL guests only. Someone else pointed out that there is a sunset safari that is offered for all AK guests, not just CL.

Hi on this TR Brenda!!!!!

I am here and I am getting all caught up!! Loving this trip so far!
I would love to stay at WL and AKL! I need to make that happen! We are doing Beach Club next Sept, I really can't wait a whole year :rotfl2:

The private safari looks awesome! I can't wait to hear about your other tours! And as usual, you both looked lovely for your Jiko dinner, love Em's dress! :goodvibes

Hi Nicole!!! It's so good to see you joining!!!

At least you have another trip booked even if it's a year from now. It gives you plenty of time to work up the anticipation.

Awww thanks. :) I love Em's dress too. It was a Calvin Klein find at Ross. I bought it cheap and then took it to the tailor to hem since it was too long.

Thanks again for joining!

Yeah another update, looking forward to seeing how your Sunrise Safari is and of course PICTURES. :goodvibes

Hard to believe that in all those times to AK you never went on the Safari.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of it. :)

Now you are in luck! Animals have now made an appearance in post #449! ;)

I can now say that I've successfully marked that off the list.

Never been on the safari?! Whaaatttt?? Then again, it’s not exactly what I go running to when I’m in AK either..lol..

Too bad you woke up feeling not so great! Hope it passes!

Yay for Eddy and being a tour guide that you knew from before, how awesome!

UUUUgggghhh this just makes me want to be in AK right now so bad, love that park sooo much! Glad you had your own row, that’s awesome! Can’t wait to read more about it!

Hey there Katt!! It's hard to go on the safari when we didn't know where Africa was!! :rotfl: Oh thanks, it did.

Eddy was awesome. He's definitely a CM who loves his job.

I worked from home for a few weeks once and spent more than two of those days in my pajamas. I don't judge. ::yes::
I saw on Facebook about all the birthdays! Our family has a day like that, we have 5 on one day in March.
Hope your mom feels better soon after her surgery, and I am quite sure that she appreciates the cooking.

Hi Wendy! Ha ha! I've joked with my team that I will NOT do web cam chats with any of them while I'm working from home! Then they'd really be scared!

You totally get the birthday cluster!! Are you able to celebrate all the birthday's together? We try to but there's 3 different families involved so we have to stretch them out. Within two weeks on either side of Sept. 29th is my dad's birthday and another nephew's birthday. Crazy I tell ya!!

Thanks Wendy for the well wishes for my mom. She's not eating much but my dad is the one who I think appreciates it so he doesn't have to make peanut butter and bologna sandwiches every day!!! :rotfl2:

I can't remember the last time I reviewed because school has got me totally bogged down (curse nursing school and its interference with my Disney time!) I figure I'll just pick back up with all of Day 2 and write as I read. Here we go!

The trees almost look like a hidden mickey in that first shot off of your AKL balcony!

It sounds like you had some hiccups with your Magic Bands so far- what are your thoughts? Good? Bad? Better once the kinks are gone?

Hi Emily! Thanks for taking a break from your studies to get caught up. You'll have a great pay off with that once you're through!

I'm really glad that we were able to book a night at WL. Of course that is not nearly long enough to enjoy it all.

If the nachos looked good, looks were deceiving!

You are so right about those Tangled bathrooms. I'm just glad that I wasn't the only one taking photos since I had to wait in line not only for the facilities but the photo ops!

Look at you with the creative eye. I had to go back and look at that photo and sure enough the formation of the trees does look a bit Mickey-ish patterned.

Overall, loved the bands. More for the convenience since we didn't have to dig cards out of our bags. There were a few annoying moments.

Thanks again for taking the time to get caught up.

I didn't realize you had not been back to work since you got home.

Working in your pajamas? Why the heck not...you are at home and there is no one to see you.

I hope you had a great celebration with Michael, Emily and her beau.

Yep, I've worked from home for the last month. I'm so lazy in the morning now. And of course I can sneak in some Dis time between projects if the day is slow.

Thanks Kathy! We did have a great day. DL park and dinner at the Jazz Kitchen. I'm posting a bunch of photos on FB in a minute.

Life has gotten crazy for me as well! Luckily, not so many birthdays though! :rotfl2:

Why would you get dressed if you are just working from home?? I mean, isn't that the BEST part of working from home????

Hi Christen! I've seen your busy activities on FB so I can say you do have some craziness going on.

Ha ha!! I figured I just need to get dressed 2 minutes before Michael shows up so that it looks like I made some effort. :rotfl: The 2nd best part of working from home besides taking business casual to a whole new level is being able to check out the Disboards from time to time.

I would work in my pajamas if I could! Unfortunately I have a job that will always require me to be present! Hard to be a Nurse when you aren't there!

Can't wait till our DisMeet! See you in 2 days!

Hi Paula! That would be funny to have a PJ day at work. You could wear those surgery gowns. Ok, maybe not. Yeah, it's best to have your nurse be present when giving injections or starting an IV.

I look forward to seeing you too!! :goodvibes Drive safe.

I work from home 100% of the time with my job. Work in PJ's all the time and sometimes don't even make it to the desk...just stay in bed and work away. I have to say though I do get some extreme cases of cabin fever though.

Looking forward to your next update!

Hi Deedee! :lmao: :rotfl2: I can so relate to that!!! Isn't that the beauty of working remote. I used to only work from home on Fridays but now I think I'll do Monday and Fridays since I like this too much. Even my staff who work part time from home I let them know that honestly, work from home more if they feel comfortable and productive. :)

Great safari photos! Love the close ups of the hippo and giraffes!

Thanks Annie!! Those guys were very photogenic!

Okay, I may just have to book AKL CL level for one night and get on that safari. I cannot believe how close you were to my giraffes. I am sitting here very envious right now.

Great pictures of all the animals, and great job remembering certain facts about them.

Hey Kathy! I don't know if the safari vehicles make frequent stops on the regular tours but we made stopped to see the giraffe's for some time.

Do it!! :)

Hi Rachel. I know you work from home full time now. I haven't done this long enough to miss people yet. (Probably 60% of my office is full time remote workers so it is a trend.) After 2 days of wearing the same thing my hubby wonders what I'm doing. :confused3 But your pluses are pretty good! Saves $ on gas. :)

Unfortunately, there were no elephants out when we were touring. It’s just the way it is sometimes since they don’t force the animals to come out.

There were a couple male rhinos that were getting into a tiff, no one wanted to mediate that one so we moved on.

Next there was a nosey ostrich checking out the jeep.

Awesome photos of the safari Brenda!

So, does your camera have an amazing optical zoom - or where the animals just that close?

I can't believe how many animals you were able to see - that is just magnificant!

D~

Brenda your Safari pics are AWESOME! Seriously would do a collage of them for the wall! I espescially love the one with the 3 lions! They are so hard to even get pics of and all 3 were together for yours!

I agree with Kathy.. booking a one night stay at AKL may be worth it to do the Safari!

I know I'm not saying anything groundbreaking here, but I have to add my "Oh my gosh I can't believe you have never done the safari before!" to the list! I adore it, I'm such an animal lover that the safari was among the tippy top priorities for me!

Note: Early in the safari I had my camera on an unknown setting that didn't allow it to focus so I apologize for the blurry photos. (And my apologies Wendy for not paying attention during your photo 101 lessons!! Obviously I failed that part of the lessons.:p)

I will be offering remedial Photography 101 in the next semester.

:rotfl:

Kidding! I still make all kinds of camera goofs, and that's 8 years after going to collage for it! :lmao:

The rhinos give me the goosebumps. It's so amazing to see them in person when they're so endangered! (side note: ever seen the show Battleground: Rhino Wars? Pretty neat.)

The hippo hamming it up is so cute! And how cool to see the crocs getting fed. And oh, those giraffes and their eyes! NICE catch on the lions!

Great pictures Brenda! You joke, but you did an awesome job and got some great shots!

The safari looks awesome! You got some great pictures. It looks like the sunrise safari goes a little slower than normal. Sometimes on the regular safari you feel like you are flying over the savannah.

Don’t you just want to hug the animals? They’re just too cute! That Hippo looked like he (or she) was just saying “check me out humans!”. I’ve never seen more than one lion out at a time, obviously early morning is the way to go.

Sunday August 18, 2013: Day 3, Part 1

My early morning selfie, looking blah or maybe that's my age showing!! I could have at least smiled, right?
DSCN3366.jpg

What do you mean looking blah. In the words of the famous character on SNL, Fernando Lamas, played by Billy Crystal, "You look... mahvelous!," (now I'm showing my age, LOL)As for age, I would guess your not a day over 29. ;)

Okay, I may just have to book AKL CL level for one night and get on that safari. I cannot believe how close you were to my giraffes. I am sitting here very envious right now.

Great pictures of all the animals, and great job remembering certain facts about them.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome pics. You have me anxiously waiting for our trip in June so we can do the safari as well. I could not believe how many lions were in view in your pictures. I hope we get that lucky as well. :goodvibes
