The not so live version of dining w/ Disers, in Castles & on Safari! The Wrap! 2/26

For some reason Captain's Grille has never been on our radar - I guess if we were staying nearby it probably would be
Is the breakfast a buffet only or is there am a la carte menu as well?

Yay for dis meets!

Em's dish looked super yummy! I'm definitely a gnocchi person so I'll take the pasta off your hands. ;)

All caught up here too but I can't remember what I wanted to say, I'll do better next time :rotfl2:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: for another DIS meet with Mr. DDW. You are one very popular lady.

We have never eaten at Captain's Grille, but I've heard good things about the breakfast. I'm not sure I've ever read much about dinner.

OMG!!! This comment made me realize for the first time what all of our DISmeet meals are going to be like in December.

Food arrives followed by at least 6 cameras/cell phones being pulled out and the picture taking frenzy begins...and that's just the first course!!! Oh, this is going to be funny, I can't wait to see the faces of our waitstaff. :lmao:

It's going to be hilarious! My DH usually takes pics too lol! Someone will need to take a pic of everyone else taking pics!!

Thanks for the review of Captain's Grille! We're staying at YC in November, so its good to know about the possibility of walk-ups (we have a number of reservations around WDW for Disney - but traveling with a 2yr old, I an guessing we might need to be flexible, so good to have an option close to "home"!)

Your food reviews are very engaging. I'm eagerly reading.

And I really want to go stay CL at the AKL. Not just for the Sunrise and Sunset safari, but... cordials sitting out there just waiting for me to pour them? Can I say yessss? And yesssss again?

I am here to join in on the DR as well!!! Of course I mean Disney food is my favorite of course!!!!!! ;)

I am thinking I must eat at Jiko next trip, I suppose I should consult with my fellow travelers but I think I may just make that happen! :rotfl2:

Yak&Yeti was fantastic when we went! I am in LOVE with the seafood curry, and of course the wontons!!!!! :cloud9:

We are staying at BC next trip so I am definitely thinking a breakfast at Captains Grille will be a good choice!

Love the Dismeet dinner, I must go off and find Mr. DDW's DR on his trip as well!!! :goodvibes

My apologies in advance for being so late to the party - I have been sick with this nasty flu for 5 days and I am just now getting back on the laptop...on that note, so glad I only missed 2 postings. :)

Yak & Yeti is always a must do for us. Surprisingly, we have never had an adult beverage here. :confused3 Not sure why...I am thinking that must change on the next go-round...:scratchin

And how many DISers does it take to get perfect food porn? :lmao: I can only imagine both of you guys with your cameras poised and ready to go and no one having to say "DON'T EAT THAT YET?!" -- In my family, both my oldest daughter and I have to yell that out the first 2-3 meals before they just don't start :rotfl2:

Waiting for the next installment, considering I am staying home from work one more day I am hoping - maybe, just maybe - your update will be tomorrow ;)

Oh my word I have fallen so incredibly behind! The only plus side to this is I am able to binge read a bunch of yummy reviews instead of waiting post by post :lmao:.

That Territory Lounge fondue looks amazing. A friend of mine had a fondue party not too long ago and I'm pretty sure I ate about five pounds of bread and cheese. That is going on my list.

For some reason it must have slipped my mind that you are not a chocolate person. You'll have to join Mr. Roma in the "chocolate is meh" corner!

What an exciting dismeet with DDW! How wonderful your trips overlapped again :goodvibes.

Excited for more!

Nice on a DISmeet dinner, and nice on having well trained travel partners that don't touch their food before the pictures are taken. I think mine are trained pretty well. Oh, except the littles, but what can you do there. :lmao:

It could be that you're not a gnocchi fan. I think it has to be done really perfectly too in order to be good though. Kind of like risotto. I would have picked the pears out too to devour all of them. ;)

YAY! Fun Dismeets!
I've never been to Captain's Grille. It looks really nice inside.
Em's chicken certainly looks tasty, even if it was just typical. And your salad looks really good too. I'm not normally a gnocchi fan either, but I had some at Le Cellier last year that changed my mind. Or well, at least I liked that dish! The combo of the pears and walnuts does sound yummy.

Hi Wendy! Captain's Grille is very nautical. Lots of stuff that I have no clue what it is.

I agree, the chicken looked pretty good even if it wasn't that exciting. One other thing that was appetizing about the walnuts and pears is that they were very buttery delicious!

I have stayed at the Beach Club several times now and have yet to try Captains Grille. Good to know that walkups are generally accommodated and that breakfast is an especially good option. Filing that way for the upcoming trip!

Hurrah for DIS meets. Aren't they the best. So many terrific people in this community.

Christine, Captain's Grille is very convenient if you are staying in the Epcot resort area. And no reservations needed makes it even better.

Absolutely!! Mr. DDW was my very first Dismeet at WDW so I was excited to meet up again.

I've never tried Captains Grill. I was looking at it for lunch on my last trip but nothing on the menu jumped out at me so I gave it a pass.

Mr. DDW has on the same shirt as your last DISMeet!

Oh.. and yes.. I have tried the Y&Y wontons.. buried somewhere in the live thread should be photographic evidence!

Hi Paula! Long time no see. (It's been all of 24 hours now!) I'm not especially fond of the lunch/dinner menu either but I'm sure there is one amazing dish that I have yet to try.

Yes he did. I wonder if that is on purpose. Kinda like his official Dismeet shirt!

After we talked I think I remember that now. I need some ginko!

I eagerly wait for new updates and the second I finish reading one, Im scrolling down feverishly looking to see if "up next"means there's another post directly after! Lol love your dr/tr! Keep em coming! Btw- while I was out shopping I found a mickey head waffle maker and nearly bought it just to see if they would taste the same. In the end I decided against it...for now!

Thanks! I need to get a move on and get these updated more quickly! It has been a VERY busy week.

That would be so fun to have a Mickey waffle maker!! Where did you see the Mickey waffle maker? I don't see them on line for the Disney store and I'd love to have one!! I probably shouldn't do that since I'm sure my waffles wouldn't be as good as Disney does them.

Just found your report.. Love reading about food. It is my favorite thing to plan for our trips. Since, we have two trips coming up I am hoping to try some of your suggestions. Also, look forward to reading more.

Hi there disfan! Thank you for reading and joining!! :) One trip is exciting enough but to have two, yay!! (And your next one is so close judging by the ticker in your signature!)

Ok confession time. I admit that I was a bit bummed when I found out you all were eating together but now that I see your review, I am happy we ate at Kouzzina as it was one of the best meals of our trip ( I will get there eventually on my review!).

So happy that we got to meet up with you all afterwards though!!

Hi Vicki! Believe me, Kouzzina was wayyyy better. I need to get caught up on your DR. The best part of our evening was yet to come in my next update which will feature you and Andrew as well!! The feeling is entirely mutual.

OMG!!! This comment made me realize for the first time what all of our DISmeet meals are going to be like in December.

Barb - The truth I'm certain!! Besides the servers we may need to give a warning to the tables on either side of us!

Love Yak & Yeti but I always got the kobe burger. I guess that will have to change soon. The egg rolls looked good.
Captain’s Grill is good and yes it is a walk up every time we go also.
Dinner with disfriends is always good.

Hi there Scott. (I hope you are feeling better.) The Kobe burger sounds good. I think I remember seeing you share a photo of that in the not so distant past. Yep, those egg rolls are pretty tasty.

You have an epic Dis lunch planned in December my friend with your Imagineer lunch.

The meal looks good. If we were in the area, I could see us stopping in there. I love gnocchi, but I know that it's not a texture/flavor everyone loves.

Hi Christen. If you are in the area check it out. I hadn't had gnocchi before so I'm not sure if it is always mushy like that.

For some reason Captain's Grille has never been on our radar - I guess if we were staying nearby it probably would be
Is the breakfast a buffet only or is there am a la carte menu as well?

Hi Linda! Captain's Grille has both a large buffet AND a breakfast menu. Here's a link to the breakfast menu including an oatmeal brulee. Very interesting.

Yay for dis meets!

Em's dish looked super yummy! I'm definitely a gnocchi person so I'll take the pasta off your hands.

Hi Jennifer! Definitely! :)

Ha ha!! I would have given it to you my friend!!

All caught up here too but I can't remember what I wanted to say, I'll do better next time

Hi Jo! No worries!! I can relate! ;) Thanks for reading.

:cheer2: for another DIS meet with Mr. DDW. You are one very popular lady.

We have never eaten at Captain's Grille, but I've heard good things about the breakfast. I'm not sure I've ever read much about dinner.

Hi Kathy! Mr. DDW is a great guy!! :rotfl2:

I would suggest breakfast at Captain's Grille. I'm sure there's something decent on the menu for dinner but other than our first trip to CG we've really loved breakfast.

It's going to be hilarious! My DH usually takes pics too lol! Someone will need to take a pic of everyone else taking pics!!

Exactly!

Thanks for the review of Captain's Grille! Hi Julie! It's always good to have options that leave flexibility for walk ups.

Enjoy YC!

Your food reviews are very engaging. I'm eagerly reading.

And I really want to go stay CL at the AKL. Not just for the Sunrise and Sunset safari, but... cordials sitting out there just waiting for me to pour them? Can I say yessss? And yesssss again?

Hi Mikka! Thank you for joining!! :) Ha ha! Yes, all the liquor just calling to you! Sad to say that I didn't try any of their African wines that were out. Darn!

I am here to join in on the DR as well!!! Of course I mean Disney food is my favorite of course!!!!!!

I am thinking I must eat at Jiko next trip, I suppose I should consult with my fellow travelers but I think I may just make that happen!

Hi Nicole! Welcome!!! I'm so glad that you are here and joining! I'm loyal to Disney dining so I had to do a Dining Review as well!!

Tell your travel party that Jiko not only has an awesome menu but it is a gorgeous restaurant. The lights along the back wall change to imitate the sunrise and sunset on the savanna.

See? the wontons at Y&Y don't disappoint. Love those things.

I hope you like CG for breakfast. Are you doing Cape May? Your DD would love the characters there.

My apologies in advance for being so late to the party - I have been sick with this nasty flu for 5 days and I am just now getting back on the laptop...on that note, so glad I only missed 2 postings. :)

Hi there!! Oh no! That's a long time to have the flu, I hope you are better by now. That's no fun.

I've heard the Yak Attack is a fabulous cocktail at Y&Y. I'm definitely partial to the pina colada.

Ha ha! We have our families trained so well! No digging in before the photo. Sometimes you do have to remind them but it sounds like your family catches on quickly!

Take care and I really hope you are 100% now.

Oh my word I have fallen so incredibly behind! The only plus side to this is I am able to binge read a bunch of yummy reviews instead of waiting post by post.

Hi there Roma!! There you go, the plus side of being a few updates behind is they all come at once.

I'd probably be banned from a fondue party since I may not share nicely! I loved everything that they offered for dipping at TL but those apples and pretzel bread were especially good.

I live in a household of chocolate lovers and I think they like that appreciate the fact that they don't have to share with me.

I was grateful that Mr. DDW's and our dates synced up again.

Nice on a DISmeet dinner, and nice on having well trained travel partners that don't touch their food before the pictures are taken. I think mine are trained pretty well. Oh, except the littles, but what can you do there.

Hi Dani! Thanks, it was very nice. I suppose you could get food photos of the littles it just may have little hands in the picture!

I think you're right, I must just not be a gnocchi fan. Oh well, I do love all other pasta dishes. (although I'm not clear if gnocchi is a potato dish or pasta??) Loved the pears, just wish they were larger pieces.

Day 3: August 18, 2013: Evening Cocktails at Ale & Compass Lounge

DSCN4043.jpg

Our boat captain for the Illuminations cruise decided that it wouldnt be safe trolling around Crescent Lake in a thunderstorm. Whats a few bolts of lightening? Yeah well, they thought caution was in our best interest. Plan B was cocktails in the Ale & Compass Lounge at the YC resort.

We commandeered the sofa and chairs and created our own cozy seating since the lounge was deserted. They accept TiW which is a handy little tip for those that are unaware.

DSCN4033.jpg

Our round of drinks included a couple sangrias, a habanero margarita (Mr. DDWs), and I enjoyed my first Pina Colava in WDW. (My first pina colava ever resulted in not one, not two, but three of these in DCA/Trader Sam bar. Yeah, that good!) Ahhhh sooo delish!

DSCN4038.jpg

We seriously had an awesome time together! Thanks Vicki, Andrew, Mr. DDW (and your mom) for the awesome evening.

Try amazon for Mickey Mouse waffle maker, they should come right up. I was at a small shop so it wouldn't help you but I did find the same thing on amazon. I am still on the fence! Will it taste the same (prob not but that would be okay) and will it make them less special when I get the real thing? Tat is the real question! Lol

Too bad the cruise was canceled but Plan B looks awesome! It's so cool that DDW can partake of the adult beverages now. :)

Jill in CO

No cruise because of thunder and lightening? Really! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously, Plan B seems to have worked since you so enjoyed your cocktail that you had more than one of them.

I'm glad you had such a great time.

And thanks for the heads up on the TIW card...I'll have to remember that.

Gee, I wonder who your DIS meet is with at Tusker House. ;)

On no, I didn't realise that your cruise got cancelled
Fingers crossed we set sail in December :)
Plan B sure looked like fun though ;)

The pina colava looks a lot like the lava flows that I adored so much during my Maui honeymoon... that's going on my list for December!

DIS meets are so much fun aren't they, it's amazing how online friends quickly become real life best friends :)

Oh I have a Mickey waffle maker and they taste great :thumbsup2

I am so excited for Y&Y! It just looks divine! I already know what I want too...such a Dis thing! Oh well! :confused3

I had a very delightful dinner at Captain's Grille nearly 4 years ago! I have yet to make it back though I loved it...there's just so many other delicious options I haven't been able to!

Stinks about missing the cruise, but it looks like you still had a great night! Always fun to be able to relax with friends!
